(Old) It's still dark MMP

Good morning everyone.

It’s 59F and sunny, and the expected high will be 82F. We may see smoke from the wildfires and have an air quality alert for the next few days. When I came downstairs this morning, it was 46F! I was a little cold since I only wore shorts and a tank top.

I had to take an unexpected road trip to Yakima yesterday for work. So, I was up before 3:00 a.m, out the door at 4:00, and watched the sun rise as I drove over Chinook Pass and in Yakima by close to 6:30 am. I took care of business there and was back on the road toward home by 9:30 a.m. I stopped in Naches at fruit stand and bought freshly picked Freestone peaches, plums, and Walla Walla Sweet onions. A fire was going on the ridge just east of there, and hillsides were well on the way to a blackened state. Emergency vehicles were racing to get there, and another fire was on the ridge behind Naches.

Anyway, I returned to the road and had the space in front of me for most of the trip through the pass and Mt Rainer Nat’l park. Sadly, there was a dead doe on the side of the road that wasn’t there when I drove past in the morning, and I hope there wasn’t a fawn waiting for it’s mama somewhere.

I was back home by 11:30 a.m., and logged back into my work computer to take care of a bunch of last-minute stuff that no one had pushed out during my absence. :face_with_raised_eyebrow: One of the taskers was two delegations of authority letters to be created and signed by the director. The letters delegated me as the Property Management Officer and the Deputy as the Accountable Property Management Officer. The MPA could have easily handled this, but she sent me an email saying it was due yesterday. So, I jumped through my ass, found our official letterhead template, created the letters, sent them to the director to sign, and sent the signed letters to the national office. The MPA should have done this. I’m over it. It wasn’t exactly time-consuming, probably 20 minutes to a half hour, all told, but it was just one more thing due yesterday that could be taken care of the day it arrived, which was the 3rd of August while I was on vacation. Just effing stupid. Simple taskers like that should be taken care of immediately. I plan to talk to the deputy about it. I am pretty anal about deadlines and prefer to be early, so not everything is a G-D fire drill. It’s inefficient to react last minute to stuff that can be dealt with early and is a pet peeve.

I logged out of my work computer at 1530 hours, so all told a twelve-and-a-half-hour day with no stop for lunch, since I spent five minutes a fruit stand picking up fruit.

nellie, I’m so glad the surgery went well. I hope your recovery is smooth.

sari, I would be beyond livid, but I am also skeptical of your nieces’ planned visit. What “timing”. Be very cautious. Just my two cents.

wordy, I send continued hugs.

peedin, yay for new flooring! I will live vicariously through you, because I would LOVE all new flooring.

I need to get to WBU today to get more bird seed,. I’m out of one blend completely and running low on the other blend I use. My feeders were empty this morning too, so it’s a must-do for today.

I need to get the lawn mowed and posies watered and should run the roll-suck around the house. I see Polar drifts.

Take care, everyone.

Bacon’s in the oven.

Last night I was a whirlwind getting rid of the last of the stuff, so there would be no obstacles for the floor installation. I fell asleep at 1:30 and was awake at 4:30. By 7:30 It was apparent that the installers were not coming. I checked my phone and lo and behold there was a message that my install has been rescheduled to Thursday. I was so pissed. I tried to go back to sleep but of course I couldn’t now it’s 11:30 AM and I’m starving there is no food in the house and I don’t want to go out to get any. I’m just going to pout for a while.

This is why, if I survive my wife, the money will either all be spent or I’ll write them all a check so there’s no cash to squabble over. In return, they can deal with all the crap that needs to be disposed of.

Short heaving and clean up. Laundery is laundering, Spot has had Banana Time, and I’m ready for a nap.

< nods in Doctor Pimple Popper >

“Martinis!” - Mom

So do we need to get you a tarp, duct tape, a bone saw, and plausible deniability? Also, search them before they leave the house.

76 last month. All Y’all young’ins get off’en my lawn.

Wordy, I’ve never told you folks about how and why my mother died, and I’m not going to now, but just know that I feel your pain.

Now for the unsolicited advice part of our program:
Sari, Do NOT write anybody a check.
For any reason.
No matter how reasonable it sounds.
It’s a scam.

Spent yesterday up at the old house, spackling, sanding, and miscellany. Including at least 1.5 hours trying to cut through a 2" steel pipe up in the joists, in a corner, where I could just barely get at with an oscillating saw.

Wifey has already gone up there again today to meet with a lawn person. I’m still here. I need to unload the truck, go to the hardware store to see if they have any longer oscillation saw blades, and go to the grocery store to pick up my prescription and some other supplies. As soon as the dryer stops. I may drive up there after, ,but I dunno. Is it worth a quarter of a tank of gas, (~$20), to go up there for a few hours? That decision will be made when the time comes.

Onward.

G.C. never came by - probably fell asleep - so I at least got way more sleep than I expected. Cooked most of the bacon wrapped chicken for myself last night & today for pre-work brunch.

I’m not mad; it’s whatever.

It’s a bright, sunny Saturday so I’m sure the nearby lake beach is gonna be packed. Which means we’ll probably be quite slammed.

I need to ask the neighbor who assembled my shelves if he can do that again for me. (I have cash ready.) But I’m not sure which of two houses across the street is his, and I can’t quiiiiite recall his name.

I hate being an introvert.

It’s the only good thing about getting my hair genes from Dad’s side of the family. It’s fine, it’s straight, it’s thinning, but it still looks like my natural light brown. Dad was 72 wen he died and he was barely salt-and-pepper. Mom, on the other hand, seemed to go instantly gray at 40.

sari - there are no words. I’m so thankful my sibs are reasonable and honest. Marginally crazy, but honest.

Nellie - YAAAAAAY!!!

We left the school around 2:30. FCD’s drill batteries died and he was just worn out. I finished the circuit spreadsheet (minus the overhead lights) and made a start at cleaning and organizing the junk room - OK, it’s actually the records file room, but it accumulated a lot of junk. I texted photos to Daughter and she replied “There’s a floor!!!” Yep!

So now it’s time for chillage.

Update: guess who’s doing yardwork next door? If you guessed “Handyman Neighbor” you’d be correct!

He’s supposed to come by around noon on Monday to put 'em together for me.

Great to catch him!

Yeah, that’s a relief. Plus I can ask him to fix the loose toilet seat/lid, which I’m sure he can do easily. Just have to REMEMBER two days from now!

Alright, time to strap on a bra, put on “real” pants & earrings & a kerchief, and do this whole groovy work thing again.

{ pouts }

Donwanna.

Well, the nerve block is definitely wearing off. Not fun. I did a lot of cussing, but by jove, I got through the exercises twice. Three more sessions today. My sister ditched her walker 2.5 days in, but I think I’m going to need one a while longer.

Ms. Dog and her person are coming over in a little while. Dog therapy is good for what ails you. And my brother called, which was nice. I forgot to buy Margarita mix for my sister’s cocktails, so I put in a grocery order. Such excitement!

Flyboy, The Captain and Tennille DID do a cover of Sedaka’s “Breaking Up is Hard to Do.” I think it was about 40 years ago.

FCM, with only a few grey hairs and so much energy, you’ll live to 112.

Sari, that’s a mell of a hess. I don’t blame you for being incensed. I’m hoping against hope you’ll find some way to make this smoother, simpler, and legal. Life shouldn’t be as complicated as it is for you.

Doggio, there’s really a Doctor Pimple Popper? Sounds

Hugs all around, me mateys!

nelliebly, I was not a big fan of the Captain and Tennille but I did like, very much, one performace she gave. Toni Tennille sang the national anthem at a World Series game, and unlike many performers she didn’t do it “her way”. She stood up and before beginning she addressed the crowd and asked “Won’t you all join me in singing our national anthem.?” Then she simply sang it straight, so everyone could sing along.

The third bedroom is done (cleared out/cleaned up/reorganized)! I knew it wouldn’t take more than a day, but it wound up only taking a few hours. I did some of the work last night: moving some things out of the room, mopping the half of the floor that became visible, cleaning the window, etc. I did the bulk of it after posting this morning, though, and it took about 3 hours; I’ll say that, all told, it took 5 hours. I filled three trash bags, moved some items into both that room’s closet and the coat closet, dusted/wiped down everything, mopped the entire floor, and rearranged the things that take up most of the space (my travel items, 4-5 plastic storage bins, and a big metal garment rack). I also cleaned the glass ceiling light cover for the first time in 9 years, and put in new light bulbs: turns out it holds two but there was only one in there, and it wasn’t very bright. It’s amazing the difference that good light makes in a small room!

One advantage of eventually cutting the cord will be one last bit of “cleanup” in that room: in order to have a cable outlet where I wanted the TV when I moved in, due to the existing connections in the house they wound up having to run a long piece of coax from just outside the third bedroom’s closet door across the room to the other wall (which borders the living room). I used Command cable holders to run the coax up and along the walls, so it wouldn’t be laying on the floor, but not all of them have held and it looks kind of messy. When I switch from cable to antenna, I’ll be able to disconnect that coax (and maybe re-use it with the antenna, if the piece it comes with isn’t long enough).

After I finished with the room, took the poor doggy out, and got myself some lunch, I watched a Netflix documentary about the Malaysian Airlines flight that disappeared in 2014 (MH370). The conclusion wasn’t surprising — there’s still no conclusive proof of what happened — but the story was more compelling than I expected. I guess I’m in an aviation frame of mind, because last night I watched a 1-hour documentary from 2017 about what happens during long-haul flights.

Now, though, I think it’s time to get back to fiction: I’ll switch to Hulu, and keep re-watching White Collar.

Nice weather FTW!

So they did!

And I thought I was crazy.

That still hasn’t been ruled out.

Glad you’re on the other side! Congrats!

I hope you made it to Kroger yesterday. I didn’t realize it but Hubs pointed out that 4x gas points were only available on Friday this week. So, we went early last evening, spent just over $100 and received 405 fuel points.

When Hubs lost a lot of weight, the Docs recommended Ensure and Boost. After several months of pounding these, he’s gained back about 1/2 of what he lost.

was Rudy the lawyer? and when he was reached via FaceTime, was hair dye running down his cheek?

I thank the 2 of you for your explanations. Not being a medical professional or having prior personal experience I didn’t have this perspective with Dad. My 2 siblings in town both voted against a feeding tube. Mom nor our youngest Sis were consulted. I said ‘what, do you want Dad to starve?’ Obviously I didn’t know what I didn’t know. Now I know. Thanks again.

nellie yay for a good surgical result and all the medical personnel doing their best!

I started having my hair dyed when I was 37.

sari do NOT let the nieces bully you. I’m with whoever said it but the timing of their visit is quite suspicious. The niece who is the executrix should provide documentation of the bank statement at Mom’s death and documentation/explanation of all payments made out of it subsequent to Mom’s death, the closing statement on sale of the house and TD Ameritrade statements on the stocks, one at time of Mom’s death and a current one showing that it’s been sold or what the current amount in the investment account is.
Also, agree with Bumba that you should NOT write anybody a check… at least not until you have ALL the documentation and are certain. They’ve made you wait this long … way too freaking long. If an amount should really be returned, they can wait until you’ve verified the situation.
Another thought: if your sister shows up with the nieces, I’d suggest that you do not open the door.

wetone well that sucks. When/what time did they call to tell you the install was rescheduled for 6 days hence. That’s not cool.

write yourself a note and tape it somewhere you will not miss.

It’s on TLC (which stands for the The Learning Channel :smirk: )
plus I knew you’d be all over the exercises; GREAT job!

Worked; had banana on toast with chai tea nut butter. Have been alternately MMPing (had 60 some odd posts to read) and watching golf since. I’d like to go swim (swam 1/2 mile yesterday) but not real motivated. Having grilled steaks, veggie kabobs and coleslaw for dindin.

Well, my daughter didn’t make it here. I-94 is under construction/repairs and she hit a dead halt about 10 miles from home, sat there for 40 minutes in sweltering heat and managed to creep to the nearest exit and bail. Don’t blame her a bit. My son would hit the same mess tomorrow, but I’ve warned him off. No cheeseburger ::sob::.

Howdy Y’all! As promised, today was a day of high and large sloth. Included were quality cee-mint pond time, nappage, day drinkin’, and uselessness. Sup got made and et. Now we await the start of fartfest.

Sari I have no words. Well, I do have words, but I am polite and will not say them up in here.

Nellie yay for makin’ it through the surgery and for doin’ exercises! Let sis take care of you. I suppose we don’t need to tell you to take the pain meds.

Cookie sorry you didn’t get your 5Guys.

shoe glad you saw neighbor guy and that he’s goin’ to install your shelves. Make a biiiiig note and put it on a door or somewhere you are sure to see it on Moanday.

wetone that sucks! Have a good pout and then go eat sump’n good. Follow that up with ice cream.
