(Old) It's still dark MMP

Echoing the assessment of cool photos.

Heard from G.C. who’d, predictably, fallen asleep after studying the other night. (He had a final exam today.) Much apologizing ensued, but he also revealed that he got a :100: on the exam.

I told him that his schoolwork was much more important, and that I was proud of him. I think he was expecting me to get all up in his shit about it, but … nah, I’m just not like that.

(Besides, I ate his dinner for my lunch, and got way more sleep than I would’ve.)

Came home from Long Night the earliest I think we’ve ever closed on a Saturday. We were damn near dead the last hour or two (usually weekend nights are chock-full of last-minute orders) and thus, so much got done in advance that we clocked out in half an hour y’all.

My joy was dampened on coming in to discover a house FULL of flies. Huge, slow-moving (and therefore easy to swat) but there’s a shitload of them and there weren’t ANY when I was getting ready for work earlier this afternoon. They all got in (or hatched) at the same time?

I’ve taken out my trash a couple of days ago and the sole remaining rat cage is pretty clean. I don’t know where the hell they all came from all at once.

Even Monkey isn’t hunting them, which means he got bored and/or full of Sky Raisins while I was at work.

Bleagh. Annoying, icky. I want 'em gone!

Ah, well, time to forage.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted hgh of 95 and N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization wherein I have Chalice duty. After that I have a worship committee meetin’. Then it will be home to da cave for a sammich N.O.L., nappage, and sloth. Any need to feed today will be via forage. Also, tomorrow is men’s night over to the churchhouse, so steaks have been taken outta da freezer to thaw.

Lily congarats on the grant proposal and the Zoom thingy!

Vrooom yay on havin’ teh intartoobz again.

Sari hope the visit with the neices is good and that whatever is wrong with truck is figured out soonest.

shoe hope the flies are all gone by now. We hardly ever have flies in da cave. The back porch is all screened in so we just about never have flies there. We use the entrance from the garage to the kitchen when we come and go, so not a real fly problem there either. The front door is opened only when there’s a delivery and that’s when we’ve had flies come in most often.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Woohoo!! When I was a kid, our dog had pups and we ended up having to keep one because no one wanted her. It was cool for us kids, but Mom was less than thrilled…

I went thru that crap trying to access MIL’s account. It was especially a pain because my number isn’t on the account, so I couldn’t log in if FCD wasn’t close by with his phone. I hate PNC but MIL won’t change, so I deal.

Weird - we noticed that Lowe’s wasn’t nearly as busy as usual for a Saturday - half the parking lot was empty! Was there a Disturbance in The Force??

It’s 61° but going up almost to 90 today, so we’ll close the house before we leave. Dammit. We got some fresh air anyway. FCD is going to finish installing a couple of outlets today and I’m going to try to put the student files in order. But first, I’ll be emptying drawers of random crap, likely filling the garbage can in the process. I swear, the last headmistress was a bit of a hoarder, or maybe just a slob.

The students use Chromebooks and there are 2 big bins of them to be recycled. I found a pile of them in the file room in random places. Rather than discard them, they were just shoved in there. It’s nuts. I don’t know how much I can get done today and tomorrow, but I’m hoping to have all the old files in some semblance of order soon.

I’ll be so glad when this stuff is done. My daughter and her new #2 are a great team - here’s hoping for a good year!

Meanwhile, I have a little surfing to do until Spousal Unit wakes. Happy Sunday!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off todday. Cleaning and afternoon sloth are on the agenda.

shoe I get fruit flies eveery year. Spot occasionally hunts them…

Uggh. Those sudden infestations of [whatevers] are always annoying and somehow a bit creepy. Reminds us of how quickly all of humanity could be overwhelmed when They invade :scream:

But congrats on a slow and early Saturday and the managerial wisdom to let y’all go home early, not just waste time sitting there. Catching up on sleep is a wonderful thing.

Good bet if they’re huge & slow moving they didn’t just hatch.

As to me: Yesterday pre-sunrise early irk was nominal. As was the drive home net of stops for groc and fuel. I got home while Her Ladyship, Daughter, and 3yo granddaughter were out at an Elmo play-extravaganza event. So I was able to do my post-work routine and reset for the next one in peace.

Then I went out again to meet them for lunch nearby. We had adorable 3yo at lunch at an Italian place so spaghetti w butter only went everywhere. And adorable 3yo at home all afternoon so much Elmo watching and tearing about was done. Followed by dual naps: her and me. Then a bit of snacky dinner that went everywhere, more Elmo, an adorable effort to brush teeth while watching Elmo’s cartoon video on how to brush teeth, then finally bedtime. She was not wanting to go to bed and I could hardly wait.

Got my 9 hours of catch-up sleep and now I’m balconatin’ and caffinatin’ w y’all. Her Ladyship arose early by her standards for reasons mysterious and that portends a day of mild disgruntlement at everything.

Today promises more of the 3yo same until late afternoon then they’ll head back to daughter’s place and quiet calm normalcy shall return to Casa LSL for another couple of months. Aahh. I love the energy and excitement and enthusiasm. The silence after is nice too.

With Tobias, pasta gets crammed into his face, but when he’s had enough, it goes on his head… in his hair!

OK, off we go!!

Congrats lily!

herald, over the years, my sister has wound up with oops litters on occasion (both my dog and his father were part of them) and has, on occasion, kept a pup for various reasons. Nelson’s father got a skin issue about the time he was old enough for adoption, so Sis kept him and Nelson’s little brother / cousin had a home lined up, but hurricane Harvey washed away the new one. I’m glad that you found a new home for the kittens though.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP and meal prep. After that, sloth.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I may have been unclear. The pizza joint never closes early, not even that one night we lost power & were cash-only and cooking by cell phone flashlight.

What I meant was, it only took about half an hour (after close) to re-stock, put the perishables away, and clean everything up - including all three double fryers - when it’s usually an hour, or more.

So most Saturdays, I don’t even get out till after 2 a.m. whereas this time, I was home and happily finally pants-less and bra-less even before the clock struck two.

Slacker. I’m bra-less before 8pm :stuck_out_tongue:

Gotcha. Still nice to be done early. Yaay!

Top o’ the morning from the bottom of morning. The nerve block has worn off, and as cookie knows, it ain’t pretty. I’m ashamed to admit I cried while doing the last round of PT exercises last night. However, I’m reminding myself these are healing pains, and therefore a good thing. And I’m taking Boo’s advice and also reminding myself that cookie got through it. Also, I get to shower today. The world rejoices. And my kids will call.

My daughter lives in Spokane and texted yesterday that they’re getting ash and smoke from wildfires, so the AQI is Hazardous (worst category). She grew up in places where August means heat and smoke, so it doesn’t faze her much, but it concerns me.

sari, honey, we want to know what’s going on in your life, so please don’t think we think you’re kvetching about nothing. What you’ve been going through is horrendous, and we want to know about it because we lurves ya.

doggio and red, yuck re: Dr. Pimple Popper. I can’t believe people like to watch that stuff.

lily, conga rats, and I’m really impressed!

OK, painkillers kicked in, so I’m going to try to get more sleep. More later.

M’wah.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 20c/70f with a predicted high of 21c/72f and partly cloudy. Weather app declares that “It’s a warm fucking pile of shit outside”, I don’t think it’s really that bad!

sari You are right not to send any cheques anywhere - if you’ve had all the financial documentation and you can see the amounts due to you and your son from the estate, you know what they should be sending you.

nellie there’s no shame in tears if you’re in pain, I hope things start to ease up a bit for you.

Lily congrats all round!

Nothing much of any excitement going on here today. We were dirty stop-outs last night and finally made it home about 3am. Gig was fab, we went to the pub afterwards and somehow or other, we ended up in The Giff

Today is going to be largely devoted to slothage although I do have one very important thing to do. My friends are away for a few days and I have to go over to theirs to refill their cat’s five-part feeder so she’s got enough food until they come back on Tuesday. And I need to check on the water in the ferret’s hutch as I’m sure he’ll want some fresh stuff. Other than that, slothage awaits!

Morning all. Spent last night solving several NY Times puzzles, correctly it seems, so I guess my brain cells are still working. Got my 7.5 hours of sleep and am ready to face the day as I’ll ever be. Will try to be slightly more active that yesterday, lawn really doesn’t need mowage yet but there are a few weeds that need picking, so maybe that will get me out in the sun. Start soccer in earnest with my 12U team tomorrow, so that will keep me busy for the next 10 weeks.

{{nellie}}, this to shall pass. Keep up with the PT and enjoy the small victories.

boo fae, Sounds like you’ve earned your slothage today with a real fun Saturday. Enjoy.

Pilot, keeping up with a 3-year old is a good day’s work anytime–but one I reckon you wouldn’t trade for anything. Take care.

Sari, hope they can figure out the engine issue; will they owe you a new engine under warranty if they can’t?

shoe, getting most everything done and ready for close before the door is locked is gold; too many days are like the one when I was cooking at a restaurant and a busload of people came in 20 minutes before closing…that was a loooonnnnng night…

As for the flies, I concur that they aren’t babies, so could there be an entry point somewhere in the house windows/screens? It is a puzzlement.

Swampy, happy Churchin’ today.

FCM, are the Chromebooks worth anything? Looks like the previous administration just didn’t care to do the ‘grunt work’ of running a school.

And now need to do the Sunday internettin’ and get ready for Olive Garden, Act II (where I actually eat dinner there). Take care all.

If one has critters and one has self-service critter doors I’d say the suspect-in-chief is a critter door that got stuck in the open position.

Good morning everyone.

It’s 57F and cloudy outside, but the expected high is 87F with sunny skies. However, I think the haze will remain. It was hazy all day yesterday due to wildfire smoke, and occasionally, I could smell it too. It’s nothing like areas close to the actual fires. Today’s statistics:

Total Number of Large Fires: 95
New Large Fires: 11
Year-to-date Wildfires: 35,985
Acres Burned on Large Fires: 577,3160.9K mi2
Personnel Assigned: 12,903
Year-to-date Acres Burned: 1,720,2452.7K mi2
Avg Acres/Fire: 47.8
Avg Acres/Minute: 5.17

The fires are no joke. Some, of course, are very large, and some are smaller. The fires near Spokane at over eight and nine thousand acres apiece were human-caused.

Enough of Smokey the Bear stuff.

Lily, congrats on all the good stuff happening!

nellie, you got this!

sari, I’m glad you won’t write any checks. I’m still suspicious of motives.

I loathe flies. They get in when we open the slider for a few minutes. Stoopit flies. Polar used to chase them, but he ignores them now.

We went to WBU and stocked up on Super Suet, two blends of no-mess bird seed and nyjer seed. We also ran the Jeep through a carwash because I must have run through huge clouds of giant-assed bugs going over the pass on Friday morning. Some of the bug remains were huge, and my whole front end looked almost gravel covered because of the number of bug remains. I wanted to take care of couple more errands, but my husband seemed to be in a big rush to get home . We stopped at Jersey Mikes for a couple of subs, and then headed home.

I need to get the grass cut today, and of course, it’s laundry day in the Taters household. I haven’t decided if I want to be out and about today. Time will tell.

Alrighty then, onward with the day!

Talked at length with my nephew last night. We’ve been pretty close over the years, and I dearly loved his mother (my sister). He told me that after three years of misery (fainting, weakness, all manner of weird shit going on) and a pacemaker implant, he has finally been diagnosed with hemochromatosis This is a disease where there is too much iron in the blood and there is no cure. All they can do is bleed you to reduce the iron content and have you radically change your diet. It would appear that his father likely died from this without anyone diagnosing it. Makes my problems seem like a walk in the park.

I’m glad he got a diagnosis so he won’t be treated for the wrong thing, at least.

Unfortunately it was three years of wrong diagnosis and wrong treatments. He lost probably 30-40 pounds and was even told that there was nothing wrong with him, implying that it was psychological. And he works for the local hospital! Luckily, a hematologist who paid attention in school finally diagnosed it correctly.
