That whole situation is so sad hippy. Hugs to your girls. Like JtC mentioned, grief counselors can help the survivors cope.
That is an ugly, ugly story. I’m sorry anyone has to live through that, or worse yet, die from it. There are far too many disturbed cruel men in the world.
On my last trip I was talking with a 40-something FA during a break. A lovely lady from Jamaica now lives in NYC. She asked about my wife and I explained about the death of my first wife & now being remarried. At this she started crying.
Turns out her 20-something daughter had been killed the same week as my first wife had died.
Daughter’s US Army husband did the deed. It appears to have been a torture murder by firearm. The body was a real mess. Those kinds of killings are pretty standard AL Qaeda / ISIS fare; the guy probably picked it up from them while deployed.
6 weeks ago now the FA’s best GF, another middle-aged Jamaican lady in NYC, was killed and mutilated by knife by that woman’s most recent ex-BF. Again the body was a real mess when he was done with it. And a lot of the damage was pre-mortem.
Poor lady; the FA was very depressed about all this and that was getting her sideways with the decidedly not nice management in her location and department. So now she’s got job stress on top of all that. Hugs and encouraging words from the likes of me are mighty inadequate when faced with all that trauma.
A few years ago I stopped a murder-suicide. It was another badly damaged Iraq war veteran going after his wife. In the end the suicide was successful and the murder was not. That was probably the best possible outcome, but it was no fun for anyone involved.
This is not a good world we have today. Not at all.
Evening all. Did do a little cleaning around the kitchen and mopped the Kitchen and bathrooms, which for me is a major effort in housecleaning. Been slothing at the computer since then after eating my Fettuchini dinner, so all is right with the world. Got some rain in the area, with more predicted tonight and tomorrow. So mowage will be Moanday or 2sday.
hippy, my condolences to your daughters, sudden and unexpected deaths of friends can get to you. I concur with JtC’s suggestion of counseling if it is available. As for the shoes saga, I fortunately have size 11.5 feet, so Cabela’s provided me a nice pair of boots for my Antarctic adventure this past February.
flyboy, your eating out adventures never fail to impress, and that you can stay at 210 lbs is a testament to your exercise regime (I was at 252lbs today, still have a goal of making it to 240lbs by Xmas).
–Raises Hand-- Yeah, that pretty well describes me. It still amazes me that I visited China and at Chinese food for over two weeks without any problem, but you could not get me in a Chinese restaurant here in the USA for love nor money.
OK, past 8pm so need to finish internettin’ and do some reading before bedtime rolls around. Catch up with you all tomorrow.
Happy Saturday!
It was a cooler morning at the park, 69 degrees.
It was only us and Petey Dad, and some asshole park person who said Echo tried to bite him and that I couldn’t bring a mean dog to the park.
I don’t know when she tried to bite him, unless he stuck his fingers through the fence. He never came into the small dog’s side to do anything. He only emptied one can on the big dog’s side. There are 4 poop station cans and one big trash can. He poked at one of the bag holders and didn’t fill any of them.
The GR enjoy the dog park, and they get worn out pretty quickly.
One of my cousin’s died today, actually she was my mother’s cousin. I haven’t seen her in years, but we always visited and stayed with my aunt every summer, and she lived in the other house on the farm. I used to use her bathroom because she had indoor plumbing and my aunt didn’t. She has a daughter one month older than me, and we have the same name. That side of the family tries to avoid using the same names, but communication wasn’t always the best back then.
My father’s side of the family tends to use the same names over and over, which is a pita when you have 2 or 3 people with the same name.
My aunt on my father’s side is not well. She is 92, multiple medical issues, including Parkinson’s Disease. She has cancer now, and last I heard, she wants surgery. The hospital she was in won’t do it; she is too big of a risk. She may have to go to Hopkins for it. If they will even do it.
This may sound horrible, but I am worried about the funeral. It will be at the same church as my cousin who died 2 years ago, and the church is in Baltimore and there is no parking. I missed my cousin’s funeral because I drove around for over a half hour and couldn’t find a parking space within a 4-block radius of the church. It’s not the best neighborhood, so I didn’t want to have to walk too far.
Now, with everything going on with my feet and legs, I’m not going to be able to walk far.
One of my friends said I could park at her house and she will drive me to the church, and find a place to wait for me. I hate to ask her to do that, but I may have to take her up on that offer.
Of course, that can be months away yet. I may be in better shape by then.
How horrible for you and your daughters, Hippie.
When I lived in Baltimore, my row house had a skylight in the bathroom. There was a string you could pull that would turn a block of wood so you could open and close the opening. Leaving it open was great for letting steam out and sometimes would be cooler in the summer. However, leaving it open meant things could come in. Like leaves, and birds.
One day I came home from irk, opened the bathroom door to find little baby praying mantises everywhere. Freaked me out.
I did what I needed to do, got out and closed the door. When I came back several hours later, they were mostly gone. Some were still up in the skylight.
I was glad they figured it out.
Who knew they are smart than birds, who could never figure out how to get back out.
I’m glad all went well Cookie.
I hope the Tramadol irks for you. For me it takes the edge off but not much more.
When I had my tonsils out (as an adult), I had to share a room with an older lady who screamed all the time. I heard her tell somebody on the phone that she found out she was sicker than she thought and she was going to milk it for everything she could get.
She screamed constantly for attention.
Fortunately for her, I couldn’t talk, so she couldn’t hear the names I was calling her.
My MRI was pretty damn loud.
I got to listen to Pantera, not that I heard much of them over the MRI noises.
Years ago, when I was pet sitting, I had a client get upset with me because she came home to find her garage door open. I didn’t open it, I never used the garage door, I went in the front door.
A few days later she came home and her garage door was open again.
It was one of her neighbors, they would use their remote to open their garage door as they were driving down the street, and it was opening my client’s garage door too.
She had to get her door recoded.
I have never eaten at Olive Garden.
Wait, yes, I did. I got carryout once because I had a gift card.
It wasn’t very good. I wouldn’t go back.
Happy Travels Dicey and BooFae
Ugh, 930 already.
Time for bed.
On a happier note, our dinner out was very nice. We got established at a nice outdoor table under the broad eaves of a large building.
Wine & prosecco were ordered, then Her Ladyship did her usual maneuver of an appetizer as her entrée, of which half comes home. Some sort of Asian-style steak kebab thing with pineapple & thai curry spicing.
I had a 14oz coffee-encrusted ribeye which was thick& juicy & marbled & wonderful. The “encrusting” was pretty minimal, but it did add an interesting flavor note. That came with rosemary mashed potatoes which were too good. Can recommend. Would be easy to prepare at home too. And a very unexpected vegetable: “peach infused asparagus”. Not two flavors I would have thought would harmonize, but they do. Essentially steamed asparagus spears, lightly sauteed to brown, then drizzled with a very thin peach sauce, almost more like unsweetened peach juice. Adds just a hint of sweetness & contrast to the standard asparagus flavor. Can highly recommend.
A thunderstorm came by about as our plates arrived, so we had monster downpour outside, lots of flashing & booming nearby, and the fun of watching people getting soaked dashing to and fro amongst the buildings of this outdoor mall / restaurant complex. We got slightly misted, but no worse than that. Other dining groups had fled to indoor tables, but those folks are wimps, not real tropical full-time residents like me/us.
More drinkage ensued as we waited out the rain. Then we walked home in a gentle intermittent sprinkle while lightning played overhead in the gathering darkness. Very pretty.
Now after some concentrated Doping it’s time for bed. G’night all.
The answer is to park in a safe place with plentiful parking 2 or 4 miles away, then Uber to the church. Whether that safe place is a hotel, a shopping center, a mere strip center, or a school. Or even paid public parking. You can get a few miles for $10 each way. Unless you’re flat broke it’s worth the $20 to not destroy your legs or have your car broken into.
I have a similar issue now. In our apartment building each apartment has 3 ceiling fans. Each fan has an ordinary wall switch for overall on/off plus a remote control for setting the fan to hi-med-lo-off and also for light off/on.
The remotes only have 16 codes. Between our place and the apartments above, below, and on each side there are 15 fans. Adding in the apartments diagonally above and below there are 27 fans. So some codes must be reused with nearby apartments.
We sometimes get into what we call “fan wars” with one of the neighbors. In our second bedroom / office I turn the light on then they turn it off. A bit later they turn the fan on and I turn it off. Lather rinse repeat for awhile until one of us gets bored or moves to another room or gives up.
The cure is to set ours the way we want, then immediately switch it off at the wall. Which disables our fan’s receiver. Wait 10 minutes for them to set theirs the way they want. Then turn our wall switch on and viola; we’re both happy. Until next time. Fan WARS!!
We had a nice fan war this morning; first time in a month or so.
This is the worst part for me.
The cops don’t come here unless someone is bleeding, which sucks. Other parts of the city keep them too busy to bother with us. I hope hubby gets some relief and would appreciate knowing deets on the strains and such. Lord knows I’m tired of being in pain.
Hubby loves sopes, but we have definitely noticed that sopes vary widely depending on region. I believe that he prefers the style his mother made.
Sounds good. They’re still doing it.
I can’t keep up with y’all. Hugs, atta boys, boops.
My hubby has lost his fucking mind. I’m not sure what to do.
That’s it for now.
I got fixed at 19 because I didn’t want to have hostages to the future. Looking at the world today, I know that I made the right decision.
Hubs has been nagging me about bringing a gun to Idaho for protection on the trip. This is what the constant right wing fear does to people, it is really sad.
Oh, no, I won’t be carrying a gun. Yes, I am well able to safely handle a gun and hit my target, but it won’t help me much if it is locked in the spare tire well under the floor of the suitcase filled trunk. That’s why I carry a cane fer crying out loud.
I have heard of that happening for decades. You would think the garage door opener people would have gotten it figured out by now, geeze.
I am shocked that you could find a dr. to do it.
She was a young black AF Captain who had just done a D&C on me because I got knocked up while using an IUD and miscarried. Normally I wouldn’t bring up color but this time I think it is important because I feel that a young, professional woman of color in the '70’s had more sympathy and agreement in other women’s autotomy where their uterus was concerned than most male doctors did.
The Small heaving wasn’t bad. They kept bringing me stuff at the 200 Slide(no one does ‘Ding Dong Dash’ better than UPS employees ) But I was so busy I forgot to sign the list for some of the full time positions that just opened up. No matter. A. I can do it Monday. B. I pretty much work full time anyways, it’s just not guaranteed. I did a nap, laundry, a Vieux Carré and Italian Chicken with Orzo, and a salad.
Yep. I prefer the local places whee I can have a 2 hour conversation about yachts with someone I’ve never seen before, and will never see again. At least the 6’7" blue guy was real, and not just a sign I need to slow down on the Jameson.

Tha was like the time they did the roofs at the complex. 10 buildings, a mailbox hut, a pool hut, and a thunderstorm every day at 2:00p.m.
That’s awful. {{{{Hippie and everybody}}}}

Here’s hoping the fire leaves the Arcosanti alone. It is out in the middle of a big empty piece of dry brush covered desert and is on a single lane, washed out road so hard for fire trucks to get out there. At least they have a good well.
If the fire takes out the Arcosanti, it might move south and take out Paulo Solari’s last art project which would be pretty sad as well.
Hippie, that’s so terrible
Extremely good advice. Pass it along to your daughters and hopefully they will pass it on to others in the circle of friends.
Preventing PTSD is much easier than treating it after it sets in.
Lemme ask ya - have you ever tried brushing your teeth with your non-dominant hand? (Not applicable if you use an electric toothbrush) It’s insane! I can’t do it. I just take off my brace for the time it takes.
I’m thinking FCD’s rash is from his antibiotics, tho it seems strange it would take over a week to manifest itself. He’s never taken this particular med before and when I read the info about it, several of his symptoms popped up. So we’ve made the executive decision for him to stop taking it and talk to the doc tomorrow. I also saw that he’s supposed to take those pills with at least 8oz of water, which he wasn’t doing. So this may be self-induced.
He was up much of the night, which meant I was up and down every hour or so. Not that he woke me, but because I knew he was up, I was worrying. He came back to bed around 5, just before I decided to get up and tend to Higgs. I’m thinking this is going to be a zombie-like day. But much rain is forecast anyway, so the recliners should get a good workout.
On the plus side, I had blueberry crisp for breakfast. It counts - oats, berries, sugar, butter…
Happy Sunday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 74 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 91 and partly N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization where I have Chalice duty. After that it’s back to da cave for a sammich N.O.L. and the usual sloth and general overall uselessness as is our wont. This has been a no cook weekend, so any other need to feed will be via forage.
Hippie so sorry about your daughters’ friend. I agree with the idea of them seekin’ grief counselin’ if the need is felt.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
Nope, I didn’t win Powerball. I got one number on one ticket and another number on another ticket. That’s fine. It shields me from beggars and scammers.
Dammit.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to day. It is foggy out, or is that steam. It’s July in N.C., so it could be either. Last night I dreamed I put up my Christmas tree(which is weird, since it’s nee up since 11/01/2002), then watched a football game played on the asphalt parking lot at work(ouch).
I forgot to buy a losing ticket.
Dammit.
Me too neither. It’ll be $650 million at the next drawing.
I’m scouring off the hard water mineral scale from the shower tiles today. Lucky me! I have to spritz the tiles with Descale-It, wait 20 minutes, then scrape or scour the scale away. The shower head and handle also have deposits, so those will have to be treated. It’s a crappy job but I have to get years of scale off so the tile will look nice when we sell the house. Yes, I’ve tried CLR and Limeaway in the past, but they don’t do anything.
I have a set of scrubs I bought a few years ago and I’ll wear them for protection, as well as some safety glasses and long rubber gloves. Might as well use some pumice stone in the toilet bowl as long as I’m suited up. Bleh.
sari, parking at your friend’s and riding with her (she was so kind to offer) sounds like a good solution. There are places that I’ve had appointments downtown that I drive most of the way in, park somewhere safe and cab / Uber to the appointment so’s I get there on time.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Not much on the agenda today except the usual Sunday chores.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
