An interesting (to me) episode in the grocery store yesterday. I have a pretty good ear for accents. I was at the butcher counter and saw some marinated salmon chunks, so I called over the guy behind the counter and asked him what was on them. He said “onions” and some other things. I asked him if he was Irish and he looked surprised and said yup. I told him that his pronunciation of “onions” - which was more like “oonyuns” - gave it away. Turned out he’s from Dublin. We had a nice chat.
We went to the audiologist and picked up my repaired hearing aid. It hadn’t occurred to her to charge it, so I had to wait until we got home to charge it. Now I’m hearing through both ears, much better than before. We traveled through heavy rain there and back, but it’s not raining now.
I could see that, but MIL used to carry a wallet that looked like a small clutch handbag, but she still called it a billfold. And while my dad’s folded, he called it a wallet. That’s why I wonder if it’s a regional thing.
Since it’s his aunt, I’m leaving it entirely up to FCD. I hate road trips with a white-hot hate, but I’ve dealt with that hatred for ages, and so I shall again if I must.
I put together a chickie salad, but it lacks pecans because someone ate them all and didn’t bother to tell me we needed more. So supper will be somewhat lacking. I don’t think peanuts would be a good substitute.
No I didn’t get high. But I also didn’t ride my horse. The horses were kept in due to thunderstroms and I don’t ride my horse when she is in because she is high as a kite. So maybe she got high???
Glorious day, weather-wise! Started at 52Ferrets, currently 64F and supposed to top out at 79F. I have my doubts about that high temperature forecast. I’ve got all the doors and windows thrown open to enjoy this luscious weather. Envy me!
swampy, good to hear your only side effect from vaxes is the sore arm! My COVID injection site is still a little sore and warm to the touch. It’s not going to stop me from getting my flu jab tomorrow, though.
I didn’t know that, either. Your experience did recall to me my music teacher in 7th grade, who loved a particular French horn piece by Schubert. I spent some time trying to find it, but no joy. I’m glad you found the event worthwhile!
metal mouse, what a pity your whirlpool R&R time was interrupted by J. I think I know that guy, too. They can really ruin a good vibe. And we could both use a spa day like Ollie’s.
Mollie, enjoy the time RV-researching, and kudos to Chloé for being a Very Good Dog! I laughed to think how Ollie would do in a kennel backpack. The dog who can barely stand to be held.
BooFae, I hope you continue to improve with the illness! Have you figured out what got you yet? It sounds pretty miserable. Feel better faster!
Knot, glad you’ve got two working hearing aids again – that must be so nice. Sorry you got stuck in the rain for the drive home.
FCM, I hope the Panama cruise can work out. But there’s no question, planning anything is a lot more fraught than it should be nowadays. Sadly, I think the rise in fuel prices is going to continue for quite awhile, too. Good to hear BIL is recovering so well.
Thank you. Truly!
Ollie is the worst traveler in the world. I could take my last little guy anywhere. So long as he was near me, he was fine with whatever. Ollie, on the other hand… three years old and still gets car sick if we travel more than 20 miles. He is barely leash-trained. He voids from nearly every orifice under stress. I’m afraid it’s the posh kennel for Ollie. Fortunately, he’s very familiar with the lovely family that runs the kennel, so he’ll be ok. I wish I could take him with me, but I accept this is not a good choice for either of us.
Taters, enjoy the time with your son and Zeus! I’m sure everyone will make great memories!
I get these all. the. time. Sometimes multiples, one right after another. But I do still remember my first – it’s a very freaky experience if you haven’t had one before! Now I just roll with it. I don’t get the headaches, though, and that sounds far more unpleasant. I’m glad it let go of you!
Sorry you missed your ride, wet one. Maybe tomorrow?
Well, this has been a fruitless day. I was scheduled for a propane fill today. They couldn’t give me a time, but they at least had kindly narrowed down the day. After opening the gate and waiting all morning, I just got a call saying that someone had called in sick, so they can’t get to me today. How about tomorrow? No, sez I, tomorrow’s the one day I can’t. So now it has to be next week. I’m not in dire need, but I hate just sitting around waiting for tradesfolk who don’t turn up. I guess I should be happy they called, at least! < Mantra > “Stuff happens.”
I’m meeting my close friend tomorrow for lunch, right after I get my flu shot. We haven’t seen much of each other of late because she keeps getting sick. She found out a few weeks ago that she suffers from diverticulitis and endured an unpleasant course of antibiotics to get over that. Then last week, she turned up with pneumonia. More antibiotics, only they’re not quite doing the job, so back to the doc today to see what more can be done. It’s just been one damn thing after another. I know red can relate.
Anyway, she’s eager to get together despite everything, so I’ll go and enjoy every moment spent with her. Only I just found out yesterday about a senior resources event that’s going on from 10-3 tomorrow in Ewe-Jean that I would love to attend. They only put it on once a year and this is the first I’ve heard of it. I have questions that I’m sure the sponsors could answer – and it’s free. Oh, well. I guess my questions can wait another year. Or if they can’t, I’ll just have to pay to hear the answers!
Breakfast finally used up that last tortilla in the pack, so I’m over the breakfast burritos for a good long while. No clue yet what to make for dinner. Or if I’ll even bother. Maybe I’ll take a page out of metal mouse’s play book and settle for a bowl of Cheerios.
Hugs, snugs and noogs all around! Have great evenings, all!
Howdy Y’all! We had quality cee-mint pond time. It was so nice out as the hyooomidity was low. Showerage, nappage, and day drinkin’ then happened. We et up various leftovers for sup and I washed a bunch of faux Tupperware containers which are now stowed where they live until used again. Thus is the news from swampland.
MOOOOOOM I see you did warm up the < snerk > BUTT! < snerk > first. That was goin’ to be my suggestion. IMO, I think it would help FCD to make the Indiana trip, but I do agree about the cost of travelin’. Hope you do get to do the cruise cause I know how much you have been lookin’ forward to it. Peanuts DO NOT belong in chikin sallit. Also raisins DO NOT belong in N.O.T. sallit. I witnessed the later once. I still have nightmares.
BBBoo glad you like corn neck. I admit I giggled when I typed it out. I remember ridin’ across middle Iowa on an irk trip back in the day. Corn field, corn field, corn field, < gag > hawg farm! < gag > rinse and repeat. However, I would volunteer to do trips to Iowa cause I went to mostly rural areas which I really liked to do.
Taters glad son is comin’ to visit this weekend. I am sure the pups will be over the moon to see their boy. I post the followin’ at the risk of bein’ haunted by southern moms and grandmas, but whomp bizkits ain’t a bad thing with sausage gravy. The frozen kind are the best, but I guess those aren’t whomp bizkits. I see BBBoo has chimed in on the merits of frozen bizkits.
MetalMouse then again warmin’ the meat up a bit before it’s pulled does feel good…
That’s a rarebit of humor there!
52 glad you eventually got over the headache. OUCHIE!
JtC I thought Elvira was older than that! That’s only three years older than me.
Knotty glad both ears are in workin’ order again. I really do like my hearin’ aids.
BrightTree perhaps I will be able to open da cave windows up for fresh air by the middle of October. That sucks about the propane delivery.
Good quality dark chocolate does tend to be vegan, so there shouldn’t be an issue.
That would be adorable! Sis calls that the Elvis sneer when Nelson’s brother/ cousin Pugsly does it.
We always stewed or pan fried and smothered it.
Feel better soonest BooFae!
You’re probably a little big for the kitchen sink though.
Feel better soonest BooFae!
Tobias hair rocked, Moooom. Fingers crossed for Otis. I’m with JtC about the Indiana trip.
I grew up in Indiana with billfold too, although I was always aware of the term wallet.
But the important part: did you stop for ice cream?
I’m glad he has options. Nelson began traveling at 3 months old and is a good little road dog. On the highway, he snoozes in his dog bed riding shotgun and he sits up to check things out when we slow down. He also lives for trips to the drive thru. I hope your friend gets her health figured out.
Well, without getting too gross, I’ve been severely dehydrated, causing some…er…bowel issues. They have finally rehydrated and roto rootered me, so I get to go home (rather Sis’ ) tomorrow. This evening, I had the first solid food since a cup of soup Sunday. I managed my green beans half my rice and a few bites of rotisserie chicken. Lord, I had to seriously do some chewing
Evening all. Back from soccer practice, have consumed multiple calories, most of which were good for me, and have the NFL on Amazon Prime playing in another window on the computer. Still about 84F at 8pm, down to 71F tonight and a high of 97F tomorrow. When will Fall arrive?
And catching up with all y’all. So on the scroll again, I just can’t wait to get on the scroll again…
52, I used to get headaches so fierce I would literally have to throw up to get rid of them. Haven’t had any in more than 20 years, but I still vividly remember them. Take care of yourself.
For many years it was voluntary only, recently (past 2 years) they have been paying $10-20 a game to attract youth referees, I don’t take any pay however. We don’t fire anyone, but we ‘old guys’ watch and help the newbies and also report those who need help to the bosses so they can ‘mentor’ them.
Nut, Doom, Ock, Freeze…you may have something there…
Cookie, good ear indeed, I might notice that he ‘talked funny’ but not well enough to guess from where.
Knots, glad you can hear in stereo now. My hearing aid is still being worked on, return is TBD.
FCM, you mentioning pecans made me add ‘pecan sticky bun’ to my shopping list tomorrow…thanks!
So are you thinking of changing her name to Rocketman? (longtime Elton John fan)
Bright Tree, I am so envious of your weather. Sorry your propane got delayed, but hope friend stays well enough to meet tomorrow. And I’m also experimenting with Apple Cinnamon Cheerios now, they are not bad and not to much aftertaste (milk is rather funky-looking…).
red, glad your bowels are behaving properly. Glad you get to go home soon. Take care.
I can thoroughly sympathize, too. I had a big dinner Tuesday night and woke up Wednesday sick as a dog. Had to call out that day - I was still stuck in the bathroom long after they would have opened, so there was no way I could come in at all.
Dragged my sorry carcass in today, and was supposed to close. Alternate Manager took pity on me, and without my asking (but I wasn’t gonna argue!) arranged for me to leave at 8, a scant 4 hours later … and I barely even made it through that.
Got home, swished some Listerine, and was asleep by 8:30.
Now I’m back awake and contemplating some sort of tummy-friendly snack. The only “solid” food I’ve had today is about half of a cup of applesauce.
It was the same volume yesterday, but more chaotic, not helped by the last Next Day Air being really late. Even holding the drivers, there was a bit of left in building Air. Also quite a few banged up irregs, so I got to stay and take care of those. Also, when I was taping things, a busted up couch came off the trailer at Door 6 at 0430ish. Since there were already boot prints on the fabric, I just put it and the box remains to the side, intending to deal with it later(I came and picked it up at 0630). When I got over to the 200, there were the rest of the parts. They must have been in the nose of the trailer, and the base and box bits at the tail. And good thing I did get to stay. Remember those left in building Airs? When the one driver was loading them on his package car to deliver, the box of beige paint busted open, and coated the floor and boxes. So I had to help Sterling and Mark reboxes the stuff, then go back and finish the irregs. I got out at 230p.m. I had to re-rewrap the 2 100lbs. park benches I re wrapped yesterday, because the other Greek Orthodox church was closed. If they don’t take them tomorrow, I will personally make The Schism much, much worse. I did my Senior Day shopping, although the whippersnapper at the checkout didn’t give me the discount. To be fair, I was the 2nd youngest customer in the store at that point. They did have Yukon Golds back in stock, so the Famine is postponed. I grabbed a 4 pack of fried chicken from the deli. Spot liked it. Spot does not like my cooking. Anybody want me to ship “Gordan Ramesy” here to you? Took a quick nap, and now it’s Smoked Paprika chicken, cheesy **N.O.T.**s, and green beans and 'shrooms for dinner.
It was 91 Ferrets today, so pretty agrro here. Hope you fell less grotty.
Pulling on cold butt only works with Senators from Kentucky.
I have a rubber mallet.
Mom always said I had a smart mouth.
Neigh.
< offers orange >
< psst > You’re supposed to smother them then cook them.
But hydrate!
Paso del Norte for Date Night tonight; I had my usual (shredded beef taco salad with three fried jalapeños). The jalapeños were nice and spicy tonight. (I cut them up and put them in the salad, and then eat the missed bits off of the stem end.) Two grande Cadillac margaritas. As good as the taco salad is, I was envious of the two tables that ordered Molcajete for Two. Alas, that’s for weekends.
Irk wasn’t too irksome, but there’s an issue with the new system. We can’t scan signatures into receipts. Actually, we can, but not until the next day. Then we have to scan them to a folder, use Snipping tool to select individual receipts (because mutliple receipts need to be scanned into one file for efficiency), and then loaded into the original (machine-generated) receipts. Total PITA. Haven’t started yet, and I’ve been saving receipts since the 2nd.
It’s walnut falling season here abouts. So my driveway sounds like popcorn. I feel bad for my next door neighbor with the metal roof.
Neighbor cat was hanging out under the porch this evening. Got all of Ms Peach’s attention, till it scarpered out of the yard.
It wasn’t Brian, the stray cat who’d been hanging out a couple years ago, Brian was a short hair grey/blue dude, this one was black and fluffy.
I finally finished the electrical work on the snails. And my Newton’s cradle golf ball thingy is almost done. I think I get rewarded with a couple of days of sitting at the computer and drawing.
We got gas on Tuesday, it was $4.39/gallon so with our $1 off a gallon, we paid $3.39/gallon. Hubs told me yesterday that he was glad we went on Tuesday as Kroger had raised the gas price to $4.59/gallon. Sheesh, now that I’ve read more posts, I’m seeing that many have much higher gas prices than we do. A pox on anyone that
Summary
voted for the AH in the White House.
I remember 22 yrs ago when daughter and I took a popup up north for Labor Day weekend so we could walk the Mackinac bridge and I was apoplectic that gas had hit $3.09/gal that weekend.
hippie you’re looking particularly sartorial; love the shirt.
Agreed. Be sure to strain out the seeds.
That’s great nellie! I think my daughter likes her new job too.
So sorry about neighbor in ER; she’s very blessed that she has you as a neighbor, Miss
Now I’ve read your next post and you as a neighbor should not be the only one to know as much about your neighbor as you do, it should be family who knows these things about neighbor. If neighbor’s daughter loves her mother and is at all responsible, she should greatly thank you. If neighbor is annoyed, tough, she shouldn’t have put you in this awkward situation. Of course, I understand that neighbor is having some cognitive and health issues that has led to this situation. Getting old isn’t for the weak.
boofae sounds like a wonderful time was likely had what with 18 friends being in 3 nearby lodges. Hope you’ve been able to kick those nasty germs away.
I wonder if daughter will barter help with splitting logs with SIL and grands staying over for at least 24 hrs.
Saw Sally Field at the Emmy’s and immediately thought of Gidget and the Flying Nun. Can you believe the male love interest was called Moon Doggie?
I’m really laughing at myself as I’d be right there alongside them doing so.
Well it’s getting close to midnight so I need to stop reading, write a little about our day and get ready for bed. I’m up to post 60.
Today Hubs & I went to the Sr Health Expo. He agreed to have a phone with word display installed next week. I ran into the mother of a woman I worked with at the local pool 35 yrs ago. Turns out today is her birthday so I sent her a Happy Birthday text. We stayed until the door prizes were raffled off. We left empty handed, well not really, I acquired a stress ball, a Reese’s PB cup, a package containing bandaids, lip balm, hand sanitizer and burn gel for my purse that I will give to daughter (I rarely carry a purse), a pack of post-it notes from AmeriCorps Seniors, the Garden Club’s meeting schedule for the next year, and handouts on ‘Best Moves for Strong Knees’ and ‘Simple Tips for Improving Balance’.
Then we went to the museum and watched a movie in HD on National Parks. It was so cold in there, I stepped out and bought some peppermint tea; kept me nice and warm. Afterward went into the Village to see the Jackson House; this is the house from Selma that Dr King would stay in when he visited Selma. Hubs started feeling like his blood sugar was crashing so we went to the International Cafe and he got a railroad sandwich. Afterward we got frozen custard cones, I got chocolate, Hubs got a twist of vanilla and chocolate.
I made Turkey Hash and Fettuccino Alfredo for dinner.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. it’s currently 77 degrees Ferret Height out(25.0 Centipedes). I wonder what today’s flavor of FUBAR will be?
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 92 and sunny. This mornin’ I shall betake myself to the church house to deal with candle and other duties. Then we will be bears who brunch at Newk’s for the day’s main need to feed. The rest of the day will be spent in high RDOS sloth as is our wont.
red glad you got rehydrated and will get sprung from the horsepistol tomorrow. May full recovery happen soonest.
MetalMouse down here we’re promised highs in the mid to upper 80s and lows in the high 60s, so there’s hope yet.
shoe hope you feel better today!
doggio if you can hold off, in twenty-eight more years you can celebrate 1000 years of The Great Schism.
VanGo glad the irk has progressed.
Cat_Glove that sounds like a nice day out for hubs and you. I know it must be wonderful for him to be able to get out and about after all he’s been through.
