(Old) Laundry Day in the MMP

Patio door installed! It’s beautiful and I don’t have to fear it falling out of the track. Ursala Kitteh is still under the bed pouting.

This. Typing is real hard on hands. Best not to waste your future health here. You might investigate the various speech to text offerings.

I’m not as far along as you are, but I may have to curtail my own typing in the next year or so. Y’all are great, but not worth crippling myself over.

Shit does happen. I admire your attitude and your response. Keep chugging and fight the closest snakes first. I hope I’ll have the wisdom and fortitude to do the same when my own turn comes all too soon.

Yesterday we wound up getting only two short-but-intense downbursts (thunder/lightning and all): one at around 6pm, and the other around 11:30pm. Each lasted about 20 minutes. No tornados, no power issues, no mighty winds, etc. All fine with me! Plus, as a result, today’s weather is beautiful: sunny and breezy (borderline windy) with no humidity, and currently 78°F (at 1:50pm). I’ve had the windows open since I woke up. Yay!

I didn’t sleep well, though, getting up twice in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. It’s not unusual to need one quick, semi-conscious pee, but the second trip kind of woke me up for a bit. I’m feeling it today: a little tired with some mild grogginess, and the threat of a headache. I’ll take some Tylenol before I go meet with my trainer.

Speaking of my trainer, yesterday he asked if I’d be willing to “share” training with another person. His texts weren’t super clear, but apparently he has to cut two weekdays out of his schedule and he’s trying to figure out how to accomodate an existing client. He said she has similar goals and is also just starting out, and “she’s a wonderful, kind-hearted person and I feel you two would mesh really well.” (Which just shows that he doesn’t know me yet: kind-hearted people are often too nice for my taste!!) I already knew that they have a semi-private training option, and that it’s cheaper than private training, but (a) I told them up front that I won’t be interested in anything other than 1:1 for a while and (b) I’ve already paid in full for 6 months of 1:1 training. Semi-private is something I might be willing to consider in the new year, but not right now. Doing the gym/training thing isn’t easy for me (psychologically), and for the time being I don’t want to have to deal with anyone but my trainer. I know he was just trying to make things work both for himself and this other woman, so I did think about it (and I’m not actually worried about getting along with anyone), but I said no. Then he asked if I’d be able to move our sessions to 4pm instead of 5pm, and again I had to say no (I’d have to log off work way too early). It seems like he’s in a bit of a spot and I appreciate that, but I just know that I really don’t want anyone else involved in my workouts right now. This is only week 3! I wish I felt differently, or had more flexibility. I hope he understands everything…I’ll find out in about three hours.

In other news, I’m waiting to hear from my property manager about when someone can come take a look at the wall in the third bedroom. I use that room for storage, and on Sunday evening I moved some things from in front of/under the window for the first time in a couple of years…and saw this:

I emailed him this photo immediately. 22 hours later he replied with just “Ok I have spoken to [his brother, who handles most work at the property] earlier today,” but that’s all I’ve heard so far. I’m thinking/hoping that his brother is reaching out to contractors and finding out availability. There’s also some slight bubbling under the left corner of the window in the second bedroom, on the same wall, but nothing like what I’m seeing here – and no issues/concerns elsewhere in the house. I’m a little nervous about what might be going on/what a repair might mean (mostly, can the dog and I stay in the house while the work is being done?).

I often re-read/edit my posts before clicking “reply,” and one of the drafts of yesterday’s included the “by the pricking of my thumbs” quote. So when I read this, I laughed pretty hard!

At one place I rented, the property management office got confused about the lease I’d just renewed and thought I was leaving, and switched one of the utilities back into the landlord’s name. I had to be the one to put it back into my own name, and they gave me a really hard time about reimbursing me for the switching fee (I had to threaten legal involvement)…and they sent me a form letter about how utilities need to stay in my name for the entire lease period. All of which definitely contributed to my decision to move the following year.

Good property managers can really be quite difficult to find. My current PM isn’t proactive at all and can be a little unresponsive, but is actually one of the better ones I’ve had in the 20 years since I stopped living in apartments and started renting townhouses/single-family homes. We’ll see how he is whenever the time comes for me to leave…I’ve had property managers turn downright nasty as soon as I notified them of my intent to move.

Completely understood and supported, but you’ll be missed!

I haven’t noticed any whining at all. :people_hugging:

Huh. I did do laundry yesterday!

Random news:

Italian man dies after being crushed by thousands of wheels of cheese | CNN

What a whey to go.

Well, you know what they say …

When in Romano …

There lots of other cheesy witticisms we could roll out, but this is perhaps too genteel a thread for the full display of certain Dopers’ irreverence.

If that sat festering for a couple years, there’s no reason to get excited now. It’s a slow-moving problem, and an extra week or three after the last 100 went by unnoticed won’t matter spit.

Even if they have to replace the entire window and sill, then repair the rotten wall that’s the work of an afternoon. No reason you should be evicted for even a day.

Now if every window and door in unit is doing that, you might need to move a lot of furniture and spend a day or two in a motel while they fix everything.

Assuming of course the landlord actually wants to fix it, not ignore it or just paint over it. And also assuming his brother is actually a skilled handyman / contractor, not a DIY oaf whose sole attraction is that he works cheap.

*phew* Thanks!

I’m not worried about the wall suddenly crumbling or anything, but I’d have to take everything out of that room for as long as the work took – including a heavy-ass treadmill – and it’s a small house without many other places for things to go. Knowing that the job shouldn’t be a multi-day thing helps.

And yeah, the brother is actually very skilled but he also knows when to bring in help. The kitchen and bathroom were both remodeled right before I moved in, and the brother did a lot of that work.

Home. Exhausted.

ER docs suspect FCD and his mom may have MRSA. We won’t know for sure till the labs come back. Not sure where it might have come from.

That’s the fun end to the day. Dammit.

Ursala Kitteh came downstairs, ate kibble, barfed twice, and went behind the couch to recover. Next week she goes to the vet for her arthritis shot, and Friday the new floor will be installed. She may have a nervous breakdown.

Mooom is FCD staying at his mom’s?

Mooom I hope it responds well to treatment.

Had our last restaurant meal with the ‘rents. My grandmother passed away a few years ago, so every outing is financed by grandma. She’s probably bought more beer in the last few weeks than she did her last decade. I’m sure she’s fine with it, even she would have preferred white wine or brandy.

Enjoying the gorgeous blue sky and temperate weather before heading East. Fortunately hubby’s family emerged unscathed from the most recent round of storms. Last time we visited a transformer fried and got replaced overnight. I can do without that kind of excitement.

Yay on being appreciated at irk seanette.

The kids here in Rutherford County started school yesterday fishy. I hope that the kids have a good school year.

cookie, you’re not whining. You should be able to find a good, low impact form of exercise (my preference was always aqua aerobics).

Got the signed lease e-mailed back to corporate. Holly mentioned that the office would be closed all week, which tells me that we’re without a manager (again!). I do pay rent via app, but the lease has always been signed in person before this year.

I requested a PTO day for Thursday. I feel the need for a mental health day. I figure if is doesn’t rain, it will be wind therapy, if it does, art therapy.

Speaking of irk, beginning next week, we go on mandatory OT. That means that instead of being on the job at 0430, I’ll be there at 0330. Yikes! I’ll likely be just skimming all week.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

No, she’s there and he’s home. He plans to avoid the grands for a bit, just in case.

Weird box left on our porch, addressed to me. It contained a spiral notebook and 2 pink erasers. No idea… Bizarro.

Well, I finally looked up “surgery” and “fatigue” online, and it’s another thing that my surgeon didn’t brief me on. This can last up to six months and there are definitely things that you should NOT be doing, like pushing yourself, over-exercising, etc. I feel better about how I’m feeling after reading that, as I was becoming a bit alarmed by my tendency to want to sleep all the time, my poor appetite, etc. Never having had major surgery in my 76 years, I had no idea what to expect. My short trip to the store with the wife today was exhausting. So: slow and easy does it from now on.

Thanks for the advice, but I don’t get in water that’s deeper than my shower. Past experience has shown me that water is out to get me.

As long as they can get to the entire width of the window plus a foot on either side and back 3 or 4 feet everything else can stay in there. It can be messy work, so dropcloths to cover everything still in the room and close off any closets is smart. But clearing the whole room ought not be necessary for their sake.

Why you might want to do it for your sake (lots of priceless Ming vaahses stored there perhaps?) is of course up to you. Or if the room is just chockablock with … stuff … from corner to corner and floor to ceiling.

Both. Wow. Yes they were together a bunch recently but really? Jeebus, FCD can’t buy a break and Mom’s not much better. Best wishes for a good and speedy resolution.

Better for Ursula to barf now on the old floor. Maybe she can get it out of her system for a month or three. Naah, who am I kidding?

Yikes is right. I was feeling slightly sorry for myself needing to get up at 0330 the next 3 days to be at irk at 0530. You already at irk at 0330 is a whole 'nuther adventure in stoopit early.

The Navy was that bad, was it?

As to me.
Spent much of the day in sloth. Found out mid afternoon that I’m irking the next 3 days, all early pre-dawn to early afternoon irk. My favorite shift, but still … Now at 6:30pm I’m starting the self hypnosis process to convince myself I’m sleepy enough to go to bed by 7:30.

Not much longer though. Pretty much every day at irk contains a “Last time ever for this particular thing / place / event” moment.

For whatever weird reason my ears felt full before early dinner, but nothing else was amiss. I haven’t been in public for 2 days, so an infection seems unlikely. I expect it will clear before morning or else there will be one annoyed replacement pilot and 180 annoyed people starting their pre-dawn travels later than planned. We shall see.

It being Tuesday we had our usual craft tacos for dinner. They make about a dozen flavors, of which I enjoy about half; the ones loaded with sweet fruit are tasty but upset my delicate pancreas. So I rotate around those non-sweet 6 ones. Tonight was one each of shrimp, carne asada, and chorizo. With various veggies, salsa-like stuff, & sauces on each. Her Ladyship enjoyed her grilled chicken on flour tortilla. I make do with lettuce wraps which are wonderfully low carb but which fall apart & leave your hands covered in goop. But are fun; all messy food is fun once you don’t care what you look like eating it. Shame about my pants.

Howdy Y’all! All the mowage and the laundry got accomplished this mornin’. Go Us! OYKW handled the laundry whilst I handled the mowage. Needless to say, much sloth then ensued. It was hawt out this afternoon so we stayed inside in the a/c for nappage and day drinkin’. It stayed mostly cloudy while I mowed which was nice, even though it was way hyooomid. A bit tstorm came through around five this evenin’ and has cooled things down a bit, but the humidity remains as it is wont to do. I feel sleepy time comin’ on soon as I am tahrd.

I wasn’t completely sloth-y, I got Spot a new food container:

And you can turn a Manhattan into a tropical drink by adding a cocktail umbrella. Follow me for more tips.

You’re not whining, recovery can be tough. And feel free to keep discussing it.

Especially since it took 11 hours to find his body in all da Brie.

Spot doesn’t like new people either.

Eek. {{{{FairyChats}}}}

Evening all. Soccer got rained out again and there is a good chance for showers every day this week, so we’re off to a slow start. Did get an additional session of cycling in along with a short nap, so I consider the day successful. Much cooler thanks to the rain, only 74F right now, so the AC gets another night off.

FCM, Yikes, take care of yourself, woman! Hope FCD and MIL handle it ok.

Pilot, happy flying, if you’re feeling better.

cookie, do what you feel you can do and then don’t go past it, until you feel you can. (Captain Obvious). Take care of yourself.

Dicey, happy that you had that time together. Hope the Eastern travel goes well.

OK, need to finish the day’s internetting and do some reading before bedtime. All y’all take care.

Honeys, I’m hooome! Didja miss me? What’s new? Other than Swampy being gay and all…

I had a wonderful time, notwithstanding various glitches. My sister’s flight from Dallas to ORD was delayed 5 hours. When they finally boarded, the captain said, “This was my day off until an hour ago, when I got called in. I’m going to fly this plane like I stole it!” Everyone applauded.

We were all at my brother’s summer house in Michigan Friday night. I went into the bathroom, backed out, and said the words no homeowner wants to hear: “Uh, why is the bathroom floor all wet?” The ceiling was leaking. We stuck a bucket under it until he could call a plumber on Saturday. I was the first one up the next morning, walked into the bathroom, and found that the ceiling had caved in. A plumber came and said that when the new toilet was installed in the bathroom directly overhead, the installer had used the wrong wax ring.

The next day, we heard a deafening BANG. A tree limb had fallen and hit our rental car.

On the plus side, SO good to see my daughter! She’s sweet and so much fun! However, she is very thin. She has stomach issues, but docs can’t figure out why. I’m a worried mama.

My nephew’s daughters, ages 4 and 2, were there, and they are sooooo adorable! One has a mop of curls, and the other has patent leather hair. They’re huggy, kissy, sit-on-my-lap little girls, and I was in seventh heaven.

My sister is coming in 8 days (knee replacement in 10 days), and my daughter and her hubs will be here on Labor Day weekend, which made parting easier.

Sari, congrats on the house!!! I’m thrilled for you!

FCM, hoping the Good Health fairy pays a visit. Between your hand and the MRSA stuff, you need some magic fairy dust.

Cookie, recuperation takes way too much patience. My late, great MIL was an RN and used to say, “Recovery is not a continuum.” I hope you make progress by leaps and bounds.

I really did miss you all.

Before I retired from the FT job, the Department Director was one of the biggest POS on earth, so I had a sign in my work station that said “LIFE SUCKS . . . THEN YOU DIE!”

metalmouse I sincerely hope you had assistants helping with wrangling 120+ 10/11 yr old boys!

I truly hope that the schools that have started so early in areas with temps in the 90’s, even 80’s have AC. Children should not be subjected to possible heat exhaustion.

When I inherited stocks from my parents, I wanted to be able to have them go to my daughter after my time was up. So, I established a TOD account which is a “transfer on death” designation. This is not considered a ‘gift’ that is, no gift tax implications nor is it included in your estate. The account is named:
My Name TOD Daughter’s Name Subject to STA TOD Rules.
In this way there was no issue with the transfers. There is minimal paperwork needed to set this up.
sari consider speaking to TD Ameritrade about this.

Hubs was feeling this too. The Physical Therapist had him on the NuStep which has done a very good job in building back up his muscle mass and strength. Did you go for PT? If not, please see if you can access a NuStep. When I had knee issues, I also was put on a NuStep by a PT. It works the muscles both above and below the knee.

Swam a 500 today. Slowly building up.

Oopsie hope the trainer was understanding. Personally I think he was sorta trying to take advantage of you. Kudos to you for standing up for yourself. If Dad told me once, he told me a hundred times “Don’t let anyone walk all over you.”

FCM hope FCD and MIL can get over whatever ailment they have soonest.
