Does anyone remember playing Lemmings on the computer? I’m pretty sure that was the name. It was very low tech and relatively simple, but addicting. There were these little fellas who all had different skills related to digging and tunneling, and you had to get them to work together to tunnel to the right place. The challenge was that these guys kept coming at a quick pace and so you had to manage them constantly.
Anyway, I miss it and I’d like to play it again but my search hasn’t turned it up anywhere. Anyone have an idea where I can find it?
Lemmings is awesome. A lot of the levels’ background music consists of mildly bastardized versions of classical music, which was troublesome for me because I played the game when I was young, and now I don’t know which musical knowledge comes from reality and which comes from Lemmings. But yeah, these are all good things.
The password to a really cool level is HMLICINMEP. I mention this because I need an opportunity to use that knowledge, and I think this as good as it’s likely to get.*
*I might also be remembering that wrong. You’ll have to try it and see.
Somebody help me out here. I downloaded the Lemmings game from Abandonia (thanks for that referral) but I ended up with a Zip file with 34 files in it. Nothing seems obvious to me as the game, and the VGAlemng.exe file doesn’t do anything after asking me to choose my computer type.
I just want to add that I wasted many happy hours playing Lemmings – though I didn’t get all that many levels in, since (to me) they got pretty hard: you had to work out the right strategy and get your timing right.
Lemmings is indisputably the best video game that has ever existed. I am a Lemmings Goddess, I have devoted countless hours to beating The Original and New Tribes. I would especially recommend the “New Tribes” version because it’s sooooo cute! The Irish tribe has red hair and they fall out of a beer barrel, and the Circus Tribe can be shot out of little cannons… oh, it’s too much, it’s simply too much.
You can easily download an emulator for various platforms to play Lemmings on your PC. just google something like “SNES emulator” or whatever platform you need for the game, then download the game itself for that emulator. They also have a PC Lemmings game called “Lemmings: Revolution” which features a 3-d rotating environment… it’s very hard, I haven’t beat it yet, but it’s like $15 and not hard to find. It stays very true to the original games and yet the 3-D environment really adds to the challenge of Lemmings liberation.
AnnieChrist, did you download an emulator for the game? Generally you need both a program that simulates the original game platform AND you need a file that simulates the original game. You won’t be able to run the game without an emulator.
I suppose Lemmings is a good game, if you’re not much into sleeping. Or work. Or a social life. Lemmings was the World of Warcraft of the early nineties.
I loved that game! Got it for my birthday in the early nineties. Man, my whole family burned so many hours [del]killing[/del] saving those little pixels.
I had Lemmings and Lemmings II for the Amiga when I was a kid. It’s probably the only computer game that ever got me completely hooked (I’ve never been much of a gamer). I still play it using an Amiga emulator on my PC, mostly just for nostalgia (damn that music was catchy).
I used to spend hours messing around in the practice levels in Lemmings II. There’s just so many creative ways you can kill the little bastards.
DARN YOU TO HECK! I spent a gazillion hours on Lemmings New Tribes. If I remember right there were 10 or 12 tribes with 10 levels each. I manged to beat all but two of the levels. Now I have to fight the urge to not dig through the filing cabinet andd load it onto this computer and blow another bazillion years of my life with it still taunting me.
