I’m feeling both rested and lazy today…and a little melancholy, because it’s the 1-year anniversary of when I said goodbye to my Bailey dog. I still miss her terribly, but moving to a new house three months ago definitely helped. It’s been good to no longer see her ghost in every corner. These days she just haunts the sitting room couch, which I only bought 8 years ago (she was 17, so it was always “our” couch) and is where we spent so much time together…at least, until she could no longer get up on it. I still think of one cushion as being “Bailey’s spot.”
I slept pretty well and didn’t get out of bed until a little after 7:00, and so far it’s been a quiet day; mostly puttering around online. I went to my 11:00 appointment for COVID + flu vaxxes, but I arrived early and was all done by 11:01 – which was too early for me to want lunch, so I skipped McDonald’s (I only like McNuggets and fries when they’re fresh). When I got home the trash had been picked up, so I was able to haul the biiiiiig can back into the garage; now I don’t have to leave the house again for the rest of the weeekend.
After this post I’ll head down to the kitchen for lunch and Lego. I’m almost done building Mayor Manor; just two bags left. I have other stuff to do this weekend, then the rest of this month will be busy enough that I won’t start any new sets until I get the ones I pre-ordered that release on October 1 (Wallace & Gromit, and Santa’s Holiday Countdown). I’m also excited about three other sets that release in early October, but that aren’t available for pre-order: a bookstore book nook, an up-scaled Mrs. Claus minifigure (I already have up-scaled Santa), and Downton Abbey. The latter is $$$, but I’m a Downton fan and it will be a late birthday present to myself – and there’s a decent chance my BFFs will give me a Lego gift card for my birthday, which will help offset the cost.
I tried it once and wasn’t able to get into it, but my dad loves that show! He actually sent me an email recently because he realized that he’d only seen the previous season’s finale and not the rest of it, and he was excited about being able to watch new-to-him episodes while waiting for the new season. Heh.
I keep an iPad Air next to the bed just so I can fall asleep to old sitcom episodes (when I don’t read instead). Currently it’s The Big Bang Theory, which I’m re-watching for the billionth time.
I went to the supermarket to get some sausage links. When I returned home, SWMBO informed that I am not allowed to wear my 8647 hat in public (I also got her one, in a different style) because it would make us as bad as the Trumpsters. I can wear it to rallies and protests.
I’m not saying we’re crazy, but ‘the casters are off the bin’. Years ago, my wife got some expanding foam inside of the lid of the kitchen trash bin. Didn’t matter to me, but she put it out to use in the catio and bought a new one. She wanted wheels so that she could move it when it was heavy. I put casters on the bottom. Never liked them. First, the pedal to lift the lid is to high. Second, depending on the orientation of the casters, the bin may tip backward or forward. Catmom has been bringing the bags of scooped litter to the bin, rather than taking the bin to the boxes. Using a socket wrench, a 6-inch extension, and two 3-inch extensions (and the socket, of course), I was able to reach the nuts on the inside, and remove the bolts holding the casters on on the outside with a screwdriver.
My one command today is to set the mole traps in the front yard. My own task is to make a deposit at a credit union (not the one I irk at).
Mowage achieved. For only the second time since I got the galloping crud a month ago. I’m still recovering from that, I get tired and sore easily. Then Ms Peach and I went out to run errands, dog toys for the office, booze sto for, well booze, dump run, Trader Joes for various and sundry.
Taters Love the story of the ornament shipment!!
FCM That yacht…why do rich people have such horrible taste?
I’ll take it! How much do you think I could sell it for?
My normal response to posts like that is “Video, or it didn’t happen!” but I know how you feel – last year I lost the nail from both little toes after running into things.
I was on the 300 Slide this morning, I even got the last night’s damages done. The 100 and 200 Slides were.. less worse than last week. I got out at 12:30. I would have been out earlier, but TPTB found some stuff after 11, including a busted up bed box that was already damaged out and returned. They could have left it in the back and just retaped it. I got home after Roomie left for work, so Spot was alone for a bit. He needed extra attention, till he got overstimulated, and decided to amputate my right had, and bunny kick the stump. It actually rained a little while I was puttering about. Now it’s time for bacon and eggs, and a gin&tonic while the laundry dries.
< nukes a cup of Earl Grey >
And also with you.And with your spirit.
Well, rituals must be performed correctly, or you might cast “Fireball” instead of “Oolong with honey”
Every sperm is sacred
Every sperm is great
If a sperm gets wasted
God gets quite irate…
< and there was much rejoicing >
That almost makes up for the bleeding.
JFC
You or Ms. Peach?
It’s the perfect setting for eating cake.
The moment the dame stamen to my office, I knew she was trouble, probably one of Fat Tony’s girls. I slid my pistil from its holster, just in case. “Hello, my name is Audrey.”, she spoke. “Hmmm..”, I said, “my mother’s name was Audrey II.”
Off with their heads! to Late Night. I have fresh (okay, store-bought, but still refrigerated not canned and therefore, healthy/ier!) tortilla soup, some of my “good” disposable spoons (wider than the little crappy ones) and croutons, all packed and hanging on the door knob.
Plus I still have a pudding cup stashed at work.
I guess I’ll survive.
However …
… last night BOTH the walk-in freezer and the freezer under the fryers were struggling, and the fryer freezer eventually totally froze over on the motor, or something like that, and quit entirely.
I’m getting more than a wee bit frustrated with S.M. (and I am not the only one) claiming things are a thawing a bit “because it’s so warm outside today.”
Honey, it’s been a lot warmer this summer and that walk-in was a BEAST. Something is wrong, and will no doubt be to fix. But it’s gotta get done.
Howdy Y’all! My DAWGS ate another cupcake (N.O.C.) today. They play Arkansas next week. Arkansas hasn’t been that great this past few years, but I do believe they will test my DAWGS especially since it’s a home game for the Hawgs. Honestly, I quit watchin’ the halfway through the second quarter and just kept up with the score from time to time. The usual RDOS sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’ happened. The death chikin turned out good. Plus leftovers for tomorrow’s sup. Thus is the news from swampland.
Sticky_Buns hope the papers are found or that the new ones come quickest. And I see there are now papers. HUZZAH!
Knotty I am both liturgical and a fan of Monthy Python. “Bring out your dead!” goes through my mind everytime the bells are rung at the start of the service. Also, “All Things Bright and Beautiful”, a lovely hymn, is sung in my haid as “All Things Dull and Ugly.”
MOOOOOM a ceramic clock? I am intrigued! I see that kiln has been achieved. As to the yacht, well, I suppose if one needs a small dinghy to knock around in on the weekend, it would do.
JtC that is just horrible! I hope she gets what she needs in Virginia and is home safe soonest. I like my cider fermented. Paw-paw cider squicks me out a little bit. However, I would try it. How sweet of the Cardinals to bring their baby for a visit.
This is a yacht made for when one wants to rough it.
Dicey should we make the sign of the MMP? What would that be? Bake the cookies and then sit on the patio in the sun and eat 'em. There’s always a solution.
Taters glad Mr. Taters remains on the mend. Also glad daughter is so happy with her surprise. You did good! I have heard folks go on and on about certain teas must steep and be served at certain temps and all that. I’m just glad sweet iced tea does not care.
52 so sorry for your ouchie. May it heal soonest. We rewatched the earlier seasons of Call The Midwife a couple of months back and snarked all the way through it. Mind you, we thoroughly enjoyed it all, but it was fun to make comments about all the stuff we knew was goin’ to happen in later seasons. We do that with anything we rewatch. Could that sound any gayer!
Cookie glad the vax reaction was not bad. Sadie is wonderin’ where second breakfast is, what else?
{{{Oopsie}}} you deserve a weekend of leisure. I’ve seen some things about the Downton Abbey Lego. If I were to ever want to play with Legos I would want that one. I am a huge fan of Downton Abbey as well. OYKW and I will rewatch the series and the movies at some point just so we can snark ourselves through it. Yep, I do not believe that could be any gayer. I watch old sitcoms on my iPad from time to time. I hide out in our study/other guest room when I do that.
Dinner was pretty good, I tried a different green chili verde recipe than usual and we both liked it.
I always use big bowls for mixing and such so the dishwasher is just packed full, but that’s why we bought it.
That’s almost always the best solution!
When you make sweet tea, do you add the sugar to the boiling water with the tea bags? Back in AZ, I would make sun tea and then boil a cup of water to mix up sugar before adding it.
I agree that all cider should be fermented, otherwise its just thick juice. I’m actually a little shocked that you might think that I’m the sort of person to drink juice without booze involved. Humpf!
Go you! Please do not walk out and forget it, you will haz a real sad when you figure it out.
Oh, very good! Bravo!!!
Thanks all for the good wishes for painter’s gf. While I have his number, I won’t be texting him for a few days. The poor man has enough on his plate without worrying about painting my room, but I do want to know how his family is doing. He’s got a ten year old daughter to worry about as well.
So tonight I’m going to find out if my iron is too heavy. My uniform needs attention and I’ll probably burn the heck out of myself if I try to iron it left handed. Wish me luck!!!
I’ve been wondering if giving morphine to a patient who is fading hastens their departure. I only had morphine once and thought of it as a miracle drug. It was when I had a kidney stone and had pain of 100 on a scale of 1-10. But on Dad’s last day the Dr wanted to give him morphine but my sister who had the medical POA was at The Other School’s football game and didn’t realize the Dr and myself called her numerous times. Finally she went into the bathroom at halftime and checked her phone and finally called back. This was mid afternoon and she gave the Dr permission; Dad then passed about 3 hrs later. Same thing happened with Mom. I had stayed in the hospital room with her overnight, then sister (with Medical POA) and my daughter showed up about 11am; I had to leave because Hubs had bought tickets to a Spartan basketball game at The Palace for me for Christmas. Very shortly after I got home from hospital, they called to say Mom passed. (tears streamed down my face during the whole game; this was almost 11 yrs ago) BBBoo can you shed any light on this?
Have made a note of it for next time I am anywhere near a Trader Joes. There are 5 that are 11 miles away, 14 miles away, 16 miles away, 19 miles away and 22 miles away. Will likely go to the one that is 16 miles away as it’s 3 miles from daughter’s house.
boy, an freaking how! The AC repairman and I had a nice chat. I had mentioned that after graduation I had worked in SA and that I worked on clients in a lot of different parts of TX. Don’t know why but I mentioned a particular client that I worked on in Eagle Pass and it turned out, that was where he was originally from. But he didn’t know any of the client’s family who were big spinach farmers. Then I mentioned our 2 vacations in Mexico, both starting in Mexico City, and it turned out that was where his mother was from. He, of course, had visited family there and we chatted about a lot of the locations that I had visited.
Same. Daughter was a senior in HS, where the heck did the time go.
Would you have flown or driven? If you flew there, you likely would have had to rent a car to get back to Jawja. My sister and BIL were out on the left coast to watch The Other School play either Oregon or Washington but regardless most planes were grounded so they rented a car and drove back to the Mitten. As memory serves, it took them 3 days but they enjoyed it for the most part. The one thing I remember was their description of Wall Drugs which I believe is in one of the Dakotas. Dad had been to a Senior Softball Tournament out in AZ if memory serves. He had a heck of a time of it but was able to sweet talk an airline person into letting him on a plane to fly back home; most of his team were stuck out there in the SW.
Football game.
StickyBuns very glad you located the needed paperwork.
oh NOOOOOO! This is the kind of thing that causes sepsis. I will pray for a successful outcome in VA.
Same with my Spartans; Toledo Rockets last week; Eastern Mitten today. They play the Domers next week. Aack!
Swampy I’m rewatching Downton Abbey for about the 5th time on PBS. And I could rewatch it any time I wanted since I pledged enough to receive the set of all seasons plus extra CDs or maybe they’re DVDs. I really don’t understand such stuff or how to load them into the machine. The only thing I’ve ever attempted to load into that machine is my Charlie Brown/Snoopy Christmas Special. We rewatch it every Wigilia (that’s Christmas Eve for you non-Polacks). Oh, and also the one about the Camino.
Tomorrow I will be going to a family reunion. It’s my maternal grandfathers family and we first held it in 1960. So this evening I have been working on what food I will take. One item is an unusual salad with chicken, blanched almonds, green grapes, green olives and finely chopped boild eggs, along with a dressing. The other item is a chocolate cream pie, my maternal grandmother’s recipe, She used commerical whipped topping but I will whip real cream, that’s the only difference. i remember it from WAY back.
After Kroger yesterday, I went in to work for 2-1/2 hrs. I had intended to do so this morning but since I invited daughter and her girlfriend to dinner yesterday, Bella was coming last night and not around noon today. When I got home after work, got busy making dinner. Hubs had already marinated the ribeyes and he got the ok from his Stem Cell Dr to be able to grill them. He hasn’t been allowed to grill anything for about 4+ years. I baked , sauteed onions and mushrooms, cooked some bacon to crumble for the baked taters, went to the garden and harvested 4 chives and some rosemary then washed and vinegared them and diced them up. Then boiled water for the Set the table with plates, napkins, silverware, water glasses and got out some wine glasses (wasn’t sure who would imbibe; turned out to be us 3 women; hubs did not). Got out a stick of butter for corn and sour cream for taters. Daughter had said she’d be here by 6pm. I told Hubs that since it was daughter, he should grill the steaks to be ready at 6:15-6:20 and I was right. After daughter left, I watched the 2nd men’s semi-final and Ben Shelton beat Francis Tiafoe. VERY happy for Ben but heartbroken for BigFoe.
After breakfast today Bella and I went on a 1.45 mile walk though the neighborhood; I let her choose which direction to go and it was one that we haven’t followed since last year and I liked that as I get bored going the same route. Then after a rest for Bella and some internetting for me, we walked to the Marian grotto at the church for the Rosary Rally. There’s a group that says the rosary at noon on the second Saturday of each month; I generally make it about 3 times a year. This was the 3rd or 4th time that Bella has been. She’s such a good girl; she stays by or under my chair, sometimes laying on the cement. I give her a treat every decade and a half. She received a lot of pets from the ladies and 2 men. This afternoon I watched the Spartans beat Eastern Michigan 35-7 who used to be the Hurons but that was deemed inappropriate; I’m not sure what their team name is now. Hubs walked Bella for her pre-dinner walk.
Evening all. Been nearly 24 hours since I posted and I am 40 messages in arrears, but it has been a fairly full day. Up at 7am and had to get ready to go coach at 8:30am along with taking everything I needed for that game and the 10am game with me. Managed to get to both games OK (but we lost both of them) and then came home for about an hour break (1/2 pint of ice cream) before heading out to referee a U10 game. Unfortunately a storm cell decided to rest over the field and dumped a bunch of rain on the grounds, along with thunder and lightning, so after a little bit the game was called and found out a few minutes later that the Parks Department had closed all the fields for the day (so of course the sum came out and it was very nice the rest of the afternoon…). For reasons unexplained (outside of me being a creature of habit), I decided I’d go to the gym instead of sitting around watching tackleball, so spend a couple hours burning more calories. So by the time I got home near 6pm and fixed my Big Bowl O’Pasta, I was pretty much done with the day. Expect an early bedtime this evening and hopefully the bladder will cooperate in letting me have a good night’s sleep.
And with over 50 messages to read, this may be a quick scan…
Sticky Buns, yeah, I may retire after this season from coaching, my 73-year old mind and body just can’t keep up with the U10’s anymore. Still have refereeing.
I grok OYKW.
shoe, that’s the before picture on the pizzas, will see as I scroll if you added an ‘after’.
boo fae, glad you have a capable new cat-sitter. Enjoy the music (or should I say, hope you enjoyed the music).
Sticky Buns, good luck getting the new papers. And I see that they have magically appeared…
FCM, happy kilning.
JtC, that is not a pleasant story but I hope it ends well for that poor girl.
Dicey, you can always buy cookies, but you can’t buy a lazy day on the patio…
Taters, best wishes to Mr. Taters. And yay! for brightening daughter’s day/week/year.
52, that toe injury sounds gruesome, hope it heals up fast.
Oopsie, doesn’t seem that it’s been a year since Bailey left our company. Happy Lego-ing.
Flyboy, good luck with the Mole Menace.
CatGlove, Wall Drug is east of Rapid City, South Dakota, and is an…eclectic..place to visit. But the area around Rapid City can easily handle a 3-5 day vacation (I know, I did it).
Cupcakes, happy reunionizing.
And it’s after 9pm, so I think I will watch a little Ohio State football (they are whupping Texas right now) and some You Tubes before bedtime. Catch y’all tomorrow.
Bad me. Been doggin’ it all day. It felt so good to finally feel good, I just wanted to sloth and soak up the feeling! I slept Friday night/morning for nearly 12 hours, then got up and had a nice breakfast with a superb cup of coffee and returned to what, for me, passes for 100%. After the miserable Friday night, it was pure luxury!
We’ve had a moist and moderate day today. Temperatures started in the mid 50Ferrets and rose to only 65F, with our usual Ewe-Jean drizzle throughout the day.
Nettie, we were neighbors, more or less, on 9/11. I lived near Morro Bay then. My habit was to turn on the news first thing to listen while I got ready for work. The first tower came down and my brain would not comprehend what I was watching. I left for work just moments before the second tower collapsed and learned about that as soon as I arrived. The courts were immediately closed for the day due to concerns that we might be a target for whatever was going on that day. Nobody went home right away, though. We had numerous televisions throughout the courthouse, and like the rest of the country, were were glued to them. It was just the most awful day.
52, I’m so glad your kind friend came to help with the thermostat! And thanks for your kind wishes re my vax challenges. Re your big toe, just… GGGAAAHHH!!! My toes curled in empathy!! I hope it heals quickly and well!
Mollie, how exciting! Gotta be a few butterflies, too, I imagine? You know we’re here for you.
Oopsie, hugs to you at a tough time on the anniversary of sweet Bailey’s death. And I’m sorry about the death of your friend who worked at the Pentagon. So awful.
They do, but this last year it never quite got cold enough to kill them all. Fingers crossed this winter for a good freeze. I hates 'em, I do! My pest control folks advised me to put out those hanging traps in April. It will attract the new queens and kill them before they can establish their colonies. A good friend also suggested baiting those traps with salami. They swear by the results. I will be doing both things this April!
You and me both.
Of course! It’s a small price to pay to help reduce spread of this nasty disease. We can’t achieve herd immunity due to its changing nature, but at least I can hopefully continue with a record to not catch it myself. Do. Not. Want. I’m so sorry about your painter’s wife’s miserable situation. It is just criminal what has happened to women’s rights in this country. I hope she is able to get the helps she so obviously needs. Good luck with the ironing. Or you could cheat like I do, and just give it a spray-down with a spray bottle and smooth the wrinkles out.
Exciting news about getting the clay and glazes back in shape, FCM!
swampy, so glad the new tee vee installation went so easy! And isn’t OYKW lucky to have you to get things figured out? LOL, I like Call the Midwife too, though I do sometimes get a saccharine headache from watching it. And I’ll snark right along with you guys! Congrats to your Dawgs! The less said about my Ducks, the better. (It’s gonna be a rough season, I think.)
Best thing for her! Hilarious about the Gene Wilder voice. Ollie knows I won’t help push the stuck part of the Kong treat through the Kong until he places the Kong in my hand, nasty spitty thing that it is. I marvel at his intelligence, though. He’s smarter than he puts on.
Glad you’re enjoying the new ride, sticky buns! And wonderful that you located those documents!
Thanks. I finally do.
shoe, your workplace is one of endless fascination to me. I love the stories and the pics! And I hope you are able to prevail with S.M. Or she can wait for the first salmonella complaint, I guess.
BooFae, have a fantastic time on your latest caper! I feel sure you will.
Nut, cider is very popular here with all the apples we grow, but I try to stay away from sweet beverages. I’m happy to donate my excess to anyone who wants to press 'em, though!
Thanks for the kind wishes, taters, and same back to Mr. taters. It does sound like he’s making progress, though slow. And you gave me a smile to hear how your daughter enjoyed her surprise! What a splendid find!
Truly, never stop! Just… delightful!
cupcakes, your chocolate cream pie is making me drool! I haven’t made one in years – maybe even decades! – but that might have to change! Enjoy the fambly reunion!
red, did you ever get your tee vee working? I really hope so. You deserve some trouble-free days!
Sounds like a worthy feast of celebration, Cat Glove! So pleased Hubs was able to celebrate it properly!
Sorry you got done out of your soccer coaching/refereeing, metal mouse! At least you got to the gym!
Me, too.
Yes, an epic day of sloth was had here today. Lots of Ollie play time, which made him happy. I’ve been rewatching Astrid (another Walter Presents, is anyone surprised?) and am enjoying it even more this second time around. Sara Mortensen is just astonishing in her role.
Breakfast was a fave – poached eggs over polenta made with sage and Parmesan, bacon and some Ciabatta toast with fresh-made blackberry jam – which turned out perfect this time! Amazing what a difference an accurate candy thermometer makes. I liked the polenta so well that I had another portion for dinner, only topped with fresh-made tomato sauce and a couple of Italian sausages. And a salad.
Apart from some tidying and Ollie play, my butt has been parked on my sofa today.
So for those who wanted to hear more about the dangerous encounters in domestic court, I’ll share one tonight. Will try to recount the other one that stuck with me tomorrow.
Summary of One Day in Domestic Court
It was just another chaotic day in the courtroom. Lots of disgruntled parties, lawyers checking in, nothing special.
Then our bailiff approached me and said he wanted to speak to the judge. We went back to the judge’s chambers, and the bailiff said that a woman had approached him and advised that her soon-to-be-ex husband was probably carrying loaded weapons on him, hidden in his cowboy boots. We were a small county and we didn’t have extra money for metal detectors at that time.
The bailiff told the judge that he was going to search the man before opening court proceedings. Of course, that was fine with the judge! Based on what the woman had said, it was sufficient probable cause.
The bailiff waited for several fellow deputies and then approached the man. He was a fairly small fellow. I watched as they leaned down to him and advised him they were going to search him. The man began to resist. This was not a smart move on his part. The deputies picked him up, flipped him upside down and shook him a couple times. Two loaded pistols fell out of his cowboy boots.
I don’t know if the guy would have tried to shoot anyone in court, but I’m sure glad we didn’t find out. I do know that was one pissed-off little cowboy!
Evening, all. My, aren’t you loquacious! I’ve skimmed but it doesn’t stick with me in the evening, though I love you and wish I were on my laptop so I could quote more easily.
Wild Saturday here. Shopping trip. So many crows, soooooo many. At monster pets I got 3 pepper corydoras for the office. The plan was that I would stay on the shuttle to go on to the office and put them in the tank. Then later in the day get the 3 out of my tank and take them to the office. Of course, I forgot the office key card.
The shuttle got back a bit late so I took everything up to my flat. Set the timer and decided to try to get the 3 fish out of the tank within 30 minutes. It took a bit of doing. My tank is heavily planted and they are very quick. I made it with 5 minutes to spare.
Got the fish to the office and set a timer for acclimation. The 3 from the pet store recovered quickly. The ones from my tank were a bit more traumatized and took a bit longer to recover. When I was ready to go they were looking for yummy bits in the sand.
Did a bit more shopping and lucked onto one of the porch swings that are scattered around phila, until the 6 o’clock shuttle came around.
Lager was not amused by my not being home with him.
