(Old) Looking ahead in the MMP

I saw elsewhere on the Dope that today is @LSLGuy’s birthday…he’s Just Not That Into Us anymore, but hippo birdies, pilot! :birthday_cake:

I’m frequently amazed by my ability to kill time on my personal computer: I’ve been up since 7am, and it’s already noon! I also logged into my work laptop (for less than 30 min) to approve timesheets and draft some emails that need to go out in the morning, but mostly I’ve just been putzing around with this and that – including emailing my property manager to ask what’s going on with the estimates for getting the deck fixed. It’s been two weeks since he said he’d be starting to schedule them, but I haven’t heard a peep from anyone yet. Today is warm and muggy, but autumn is coming…I’d like to be able to use the deck sometime before the end of the year!

I finished Mayor Manor yesterday afternoon. It was a fun build, with some of the usual Lego hidden stuff (like a rat eating cheese under the floorboards, which you can’t see once the floor is in place). And the minifigures have glow-in-the-dark faces!

After finishing the build, I read for a while: I caught up on the new issues of Blocks and New Yorker, and finished the David Baldacci book I’d been reading. Then I killed some time cleaning up the library on my Kindle, and downloaded and began reading the sample of another Baldacci book (the first in the Sean King & Michelle Maxwell series). A new book by a different author that I’ve been looking forward to will release next month; hopefully I can continue my reading streak and finish this one by then.

I also played the piano for a little while yesterday, for only the second time since moving here (three months ago). After Bailey died I got out of the habit of playing due to grief, and then I kind of disengaged from music in general for a while. It’s always in me, though, and talking with my jazz pianist friend the other week about helping me dust off my vocal repertoire seems to have been a spiritual nudge. I started taking lessons when I was 7, and there has always been a piano (or at least a keyboard) every place I’ve lived, but I stopped studying at the “intermediate” level and these days I’m a much better singer than pianist. So I only play for myself. I may go through periods of not playing much – 10 years ago I bought a hybrid Yamaha so I’d never have to get another piano tuned again – but I can’t imagine not having one around. I played through some favorites, and won’t wait so long to do that again!

I’m starting to feel hungry…time for some replies, then I’ll head downstairs for lunch and more David Baldacci. :open_book:

:joy:

Have you ever seen the British show Vicious (2013), with Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Derek Jacobi? If not, both seasons are on Amazon Prime* and BritBox: “Freddie Thornhill and Stuart Bixby are an old gay couple who have been together for nearly fifty years. Their lives now revolve around entertaining their frequent guests and hurling insults at each other at every opportunity.”

It’s hysterical…and it’s mildly amusing to see Iwan Rheon outside of Game of Thrones (where he played Ramsay Bolton), as a pretty boy.

(*except the finale special, which is only available on BritBox)

Hooray!

Could you be a dear and take care of the squeaky swing in the nearby playground? Thanks!

What do you have against Kermit the Frog?

Happy birthday @LSLGuy you Olde Farte ™ I’m sure you’re treating yourself to a fabulous day.

Lovely! :musical_notes:

Oh, wow. He so thoroughly nailed (heh) that character and the evil he represented … I don’t know if I could get immersed in him portraying something opposite.

I do understand that actor does not equal character, but … { brain softly explodes }

As long as we’re playing “Handy(wo)man MMP” I got a bookshelf that needs fixin’ plz & thx.

This made me vaguely melancholy.

I bought a lovely blue aster flower in a cute faux-barrel planter a coupla days ago - must post pics soon - and because I’d stopped at Meijer for work snax and this was a complete impulse buy, it spent the rest of my shift in the front seat.

I gave Grandma Co-worker a lift home, and she had to ride in the back like I was her chauffeur.

I close again tonight, but it’s “Split Shift” so I don’t go in until 8 p.m. This is ideal, for me on a Sunday specifically, since it’s also my personal “Trash Night” so I can - theoretically, if I get my ass in gear - get that handled before work, instead of after when I’m tired and donwanna.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME HANDEGG?!?
The rain has ended, the clouds have cleared, it’s 84 Ferrets, with a Heat Index of 90. But the apartment is cleaned and dusted, Spot has had a crack stick, and is sacked out somewhere.

It took this long to duct tape all the household felines to the wall?

Looks good, enjoy. And glad Mr. Taters is on the mend.

Well there was a four year stretch where they wouldn’t show State’s second game anywhere, but they’d show Incarnate Word. Hence my eternal petty hatred of them.

I knew a Monsignor who must have had a standing 11:30 tee time, because he said 9:30 Mass like an auctioneer, “TheMasshasenedgoinpeacetoloveandservetheLord.” I’m surprised he didn’t Frisbee the Hosts at the pews, just to cut 10 minutes off the thing.

I  this.

Busy Sunday here today. Got out the door by 8am to take the car through the wash (I don’t know if it’s true but I’ve heard it’s not good to go in the afternoons when it’s super hot out as it can crack the windshield). Then just as I got home, my sister was texting to see if I would bring donuts over while they’re doing a yard project. So off to the donut store I went - they were already slammed and kind of picked over, so got the best dozen and several kolaches. These are Texas Czech style so a sausage baked in sweet bread. Hearty breakfast!

Just got done waterboarding myself doing a nasal rinse. Ragweed and dust/dirt from all the dying plant matter has got my allergies going. Then I’ll be going to an Italian place this afternoon with my mom and her friend for our weekly lunch.

For all of the Downton Abbey fans, has anyone else watched The Gilded Age on HBO? A lot of similarities and the set design/costuming are beautiful.

oopsie that Downton Abbey set looks amazing! That could actually tempt me to Lego… Also, making music is always good for the soul and it sounds like you need a dose right now.

And I added Vicious to my watchlist!

doggio You are too funny :joy: I laughed like crazy

I took it apart as much as I could without voiding the warranty (which apparently removing the bottom plate might do). I gave it an extra thorough cleaning, took the wheels off and wiped all of the sensors. I don’t see how a toy could have been sucked into an inaccessible area so at least it isn’t that. It’s working better so I’m hoping it was just the main filter on the dust bin being dirty or clogged, and cleaning the sensors solved a minor path finding issue it was having.

Stupid question - why?

Metal Mouse sorry your game got cancelled, but your dedication to both soccer and the gym are amazing.

Bright Tree what a terrifying story! While you never know what he would have done, thank goodness the woman spoke up and was taken seriously.

Taters hope the restaurant lives up to expectations! The menu looks very tasty.

Boo fae sounds like another great weekend as far as live music.

Seconded. I work with a British guy and he got much amusement out of being called a muppet by an American.

@LSLGuy Happy birthday! Hope you’re off somewhere having a blast!

Did our Sunday B&G in the dining room this morning. Very satisfying. I just ordered a late lunch from a local restaurant, which should be here in about an hour, and then we’ll be watching “Come From Away” on Apple. It’s a Tony-winning musical about Gander’s hospitality after 9/11.

Thank you, I will remember this if/when ours starts acting up.

It’s amazing, Hubs never “saw” the floors before we got the robot, probably because I took care of them. After my surgery, if I pointed out that the floors needed attention, he would do it, but he never initiated it. Now he runs the robot at least once a day, LOL!

Those sound yum! I had to settle for Tudor’s biskits and gravy.

Yes, pics, please. I think I’m going to have some asters put in the bed in front of our porch, but I haven’t decided on the variety yet. So many choices!

Thanks for the reminder, Happy Birthday LSLGuy!

My comp seems to want to be flakey, I think I’ll do a restart and bbl. Have great days everyone.

Drive by for proof of life. I’m at Sis’ for a while until the oral antibiotics that have made me so sick clear my system. Read all, retained the highlights.

We do those in Nebraska and Iowa too.

This was unplanned.

Imgur

Bears won. They’re going to the Super Bowl.

Can’t remember who asked, but Milo’s tea can be found at WalMart.

That was MEEEEEEE and I’ll look for it.

Eighteen thousand Mumpers can’t all be wrong.

ETA didn’t wanna cross post but Monkey is being very handsome with my gorgeous asters, over in the Pet thread.

Afternoon all. Longhorn Steakhouse provided the major repast of the day, the Phaze 3 gym provided some exercise, and my lawn (and 87F heat) will provide more sweatage here in a little bit. So a fairly active Sunday and should sleep well tonight (if my kidneys agree to it).

And reading the Sunday news on the scroll-o-matic…

Nut, witchy dresses and an Demijohn of Cider; I think I’d like browsing at that car boot market. As for apples, I’ll stick with the ones I can crunch or slurp, never been much for drinking.

Taters, concur, when I worked in a restaurant as a youth, Monday and Tuesdays were always the ‘slow’ days. But maybe you lucked out…

boo fae, you guys have the best weekends.

Coppertone, I’d rather have an anteater than Andrew Tate…

Happy Birthday, Pilot, hope the GF and you are celebrating appropriately (by being most inappropriate I hope…

oopsie, if you only know how many spider solitaire games I’ve played on this computer in the last couple of years… Nice Lego work, and sounds like a good day all-around.

Shoe, happy Trash Night. And lovely flower!

52, that reminds me my car needs a wash too and lots of car washes around here.

And the lawn won’t mow itself and with it getting dark earlier, I need to get out there and start cutting. Take care all.

Hi all.

Wow! Thank you one and all.

Turned 68. Also celebrating 3 years of blessed retirement.

GF and I are most of the way through 14 days away from home w 11 in the Galápagos. Nice ship w 48 passengers. Seen amazing animal sights on land, sea, and air. Food and scenery are fantastic.

The activity day starts at 6am and ends close to 10pm. Hard to find time to sleep, shower, or misbehave. But we been doin’ all three as best geezers can :leer:  :rabbit:

Hugs to all Mumpers!

Happy birthday! Enjoy the Galapagos!

I snoozed a couple of hours, but it’s nearly 7 and I’m still in robe and slippers. It’ll be an early night with Mel.

That’s all I got till the morrow.

It’s only 16 o’clock, and The Missus is making dinner: Trader Joe’s kebabs (she’ll have hers in a tortilla), kalamata olives, and feta. I’ll have mine without onna plate, without the tortilla. I might have tom kha gai later.

I was sitting in the sunroom, with Spot napping on my lap. He started dreaming, little leg twitches at first. But then he started licking his lips and chewing. The little maniac was dreaming about eating. :taco::black_cat: Having a Wisconsin Old Fashioned, and the poke loin is in the oven.

Purchased or gifted?
And Monkey and his pumpkin are styling.

:bottle_with_popping_cork: :birthday_cake: :partying_face:HAPPY BIRTHDAY PILOT!!!:partying_face::birthday_cake: :bottle_with_popping_cork:
And enjoy the cruise(if you sleep in the shower, you have more time to misbehave).

ARE YOU READY FOR THE END OF HANDEGG?!?
Panthers blew it against the Bears, and the Packers got embarrassed by the Vikings in the 4th Quarter. At least hockey starts on the 22nd.

Howdy Y’all! I survived marathon church day! Actually I’ve been home for about three hours, but needed some chill time and a couple episodes of Call The Midwife. I met the new intern and his wife. They are very nice and kinda odd (I am fond of odd) people. He preached and his sermon was really good. OYKW and I left after the service to get a McLunch in our respective vehicles. He left Mickey D’s to head to da cave and I went back to the church house. The how to pray the daily offices group was way bigger than expected. We were goin’ to use the large(ish) meetin’ room but had to move out into the Parish hall proper due to the number of folks. That’s a good thing though. I went from that immediately to my Sunday afternoon smaller group which was also good, as usual. It’s been a loooooong day and I know I shall sleep well tonight. Also, the biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Don’t forget shoe!

MOOOOOOM Newhart yes! I would love to rewatch that from beginnin’ to end! In the meantime I will settle on watchin’ Bob Newhart as I really liked that too. Thanks for the suggestion. A local delicacy is always a good host/hostess gift IMO.

MetalMouse I must accomplish mowage at some point this week. Right now Wednesday is lookin’ like a good day as there will be an overnight low of only 67 ferrets. I didn’t watch the OSU-Texas game and now I regret it. Not that I am a Texas fan, but just that it was a helluva finish!

Taters glad to see Mr. Taters continues to improve. That menu does look good! I would go crazy over the appetizers alone.

Mollie that was an event filled Sattidy for the Magill clan! I envy the Coq au Vin!

BooFae 'im indoors and you have such fun trips. Glad everyone had a great time. Pizza always makes for a good time.

Nuts bout time to see all the Canada geese headin’ south. There’s a couple of ponds nearby they use as a layover. We hear a lot of honks for a few days!

Coppertone burgers are a good lunchtime score! Cool about the Sunday night youtube gatherin’!

shoe we need to get it done so we can get to somewhere decent for brunch ahead of the others. That first post-Eucharist Bloody Mary is the most important cocktail of the day. Milo’s sweet tea is sold at most grocery sto’s in these parts. :astonished_face:Wally*World  sells it as well.

Oopsie that Lego is tres chic! Glad you had fun playin’ the piano. Vicious is on our things we must watch list.

doggio I no longer watch pro football. All the foolishness of team owners, coaches, and players over the years made me give it up. Yep, we are Statler and Waldorf. Tell me they aren’t two grumpy old gay men!

52 a sausage baked in sweet bread sounds like a balanced breakfast to me! Hope you cured what ailed the robot vacuum.

{{{red}}} so sorry for your continued woes!

Pilot :: tacklehug :: Great to hear from ya! Glad y’all are havin’ a good time on the cruise.

And now this…
