Afternoon all. The Air Conditioning guy has been here, the good news is that my system is in pretty good shape, the bad news is that the previous work that got done last year wasn’t done well (I suspected as much, which is why I used a different company this time) and it will cost me some cash to make it well. Told them to go ahead and schedule for it, they seem to be a pretty honest and straight-forward bunch (pictures and everything) so hopefully this will be my last expense for this system. One of these days everything will be working right, probably about the time I decide to move to someplace smaller…
Did get the Firday shopping done and First meal has been put in the appropriate place, so in about an hour I’ll head for the gym and try to make up for missing yesterday. Still raining off and on, so glad I got soccer in yesterday, likely the fields will be closed today and Saturday.
hippy, that’s some serious-looking steel. Glad you didn’t end up an extra in “West Side Story”.
FCM, it sounds bad, but I expect one of these days MIL is just going to go to sleep…and not wake up. Perhaps the kindest way to depart, but will be hard on you and FCD. ANd haven’t been to Tennessee to get a lottery ticket in months, so no help from me I’m afraid.
doggio, looked up Calphalon knives and looks like you got a great deal.
OK, need to get the swimmin’ trunks on and go backstroking through the afternoon. Take care all.

It’s Friday! Yay!!
Right now it’s mostly sunny and 58°F. It’s supposed to rain pretty much all day tomorrow, which figures because I have a lot of stuff to put in the car/take to the afternoon volunteer-related event…including my portable amp and microphone, which my fellow volunteer handling the event logistics just realized they need. It pays to have a musician as part of your organization. I’ll load the car up this evening, when I get back from the gym. This will be the third event in rainy weather out of the four so far this year! All have been indoor events, thank goodness, but unloading a car and pulling a big wagon in the rain isn’t fun.
I rarely get lunch delivered, but today I had a gnawin’ and a cravin’ so I DoorDash-ed a 10" cheese pizza from Lost Dog Cafe. It’s close to home, has great food, and supports the Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation that I adopted Bailey from in 2008.
This morning I hauled the biiiiiiiig trash can to the curb, and will haul it back sometime later today (probably after the gym). I also plan to throw the tablecloths and runners for tomorrow’s event in the washer in a little while. Work has been tolerable so far: if it can just stay this way for 3.5 more hours, today won’t be bad at all…
By any standards! I’m glad you’re on the road to regaining some equilibrium.
This made me laugh out loud, for no good reason.
Yay! It’s amazing the difference something like that can make.
Paintcharge gave you the basics. I use Imgbb instead of Flickr: I have a free account, and they provide several different types of links (what works here are “Direct Links”). One note/tip – at least with that site – is to resize your picture before you upload it. My image files always need to be made smaller (height/width) in order to look reasonable here.
It’s sooo nice to have a day with no appointments! I re-potted Jerry Garcia, my crispy wave fern. He seems much happier. I’m going to the gym and will then take the babushka cart and trundle to the grocery store.
B-b-but what if I’m the f-ing weirdo in my family?
swampy, do you order “the usual” when you go there, or do you try to mix it up?
This was the rule with our kids, too. It wasn’t even about the driving; it was that I’d seen what happens when kids are over-scheduled. I’m a big believer in free time to play and to develop an imagination. And occasional boredom is good for kids, too.
I won it by right of honorable combat when I was 12. I was threatened with it and when the guy made his move I was a bit faster. I avoided it and snatched up a half brick and smacked the attacker in the face with it. He dropped the knife and ran off.
Howdy Y’all! We were bears who brunched and then sloth took over when we got back to da cave. No mowage or yahd irk occurred. Just could not be bothered. Oh well, there’s always tomorrow. Except tomorrow is supposed to be rainy. Oh well, there’s always next week. Or not.
Nellie I do try to vary what I order somewhat although I do have some favorites. Since today is a Firday durin’ Lent, I don’t eat meat. However, that does not mean I cannot indulge a bit. I got the coastal crab cakes benedict which is both nummy and a bit decadent.
Waves at everyone. I’m currently suffering a full on ocular migraine (no pain, thank goodness) but I can’t see to do anything because of the bright lights. I did read everything before the light show started, replying isn’t going to happen tonight.
Wow. Late afternoon on Friday here. Warm & sunny w some clouds. I leave you folks alone for just over 24 hours and I’m 60+ posts behind.
Yesterday afternoon I got a call from my atty. HL’s atty has given him their opener for the property settlement. So pretty quickly, and my atty says it’s not an aggressive angry grab; just pretty much the standard ask. We’ll meet Monday to review it together and decide how much/hard to push back, but both the pace and tone seem to be good omens for a speedy affordable parting.
Last night I tried to go to a cocktail & food reception / music / dancing event but got there late and they were full / already in progress and not accepting latecomers. Oops. Fell back to beachfront nouvelle Latin / Mexican and the last half-set of a duo playing at a bar on the sand. A cloudy evening, but that kept it a bit warmer later into the night. Yaay!
Today was yak w pilot pals, e-bike to and around the beach, lots of sun & water, touristy lunch, and now y’all. This is the opening weekend of Spring Break and the tourist beaches here were busy, not crazy. We’re also not Ground Zero for the Drunken Teen-TwentySomething Invasion; those areas are ~20 and ~40 miles south of here. Though we will get some overflow.
Planning to do the dinner / music / dance thing right tonight. Have my alarms set to not miss it this time.
Other pilot pal called this afternoon. Wanted to know if I wanted to go to Casablanca tonight w him. As in the city in Morocco, not the local nightclub. But for the atty on Mon that would’ve been an instant “yes”.
As to y’all …
This. Bravo dear @Misnomer, you’re doing a great deed for our society.
Sad, but the rightest / smartest move on offer. {{Hugs}} to all.
Crashing off those kinds of meds is not the greatest idea. As you’ve discovered. Thank goodness you seem to have gotten things stabilized again and been re-supplied. Wishing you every success from here.
As you so richly deserve.
Even if it’s been properly activated, you should do something with it soon to prove it works. The chip could be defective or the PIN got glitched or whatever. Go withdraw a bit of cash, or even just check your balance with it. Don’t ask how I learned this.
Wow! is that typical? Or is it just the start-up first practice confusion?
This. I do much less than metalmouse for exercise, but when the mature lady with fouled up knee surgery casually announces “Oh, I walked 8 miles today in beastly conditions” I am in awe.
You can see your own, but it only appears on your anniversary day. Which was Wednesday. Then it disappears until next year.
The minion dental plan is great!
Unfortunately she also offers only the Star Trek Redshirt retirement plan. So that’s a real buzzkill.
Hooray for new used knives though. Nothing beats a great thriftstore or freecycle score!
Me too! But I already hauled mine back, neener! Although I’m writing much later in the day than you were. So I bet yours is long since back by now too.
Such excitement at Casa Mike+LSL today.
Those are the best kind of trophies.
Sleep well once the fireworks subside. When I get one of those the exhaustion afterwards is profound, but the sleeping is awesome!
As to me again …
Almost time to get pretty & launch off into the gathering evening.
pilot - this question came up during supper tonight: when a plane has an incident that caused an emergency egress, does the airline offer any compensation to the passengers? Yanno, for pain and suffering and needing new underwear?
I’m at the geezer disco w a fresh drink awaiting the band firing up. A breezy night but it looks like we’ll have a capacity crowd. So 700ish. Right now I’m alone at a 6-person picnic table but that won’t last. I hope.
As to evacuation compensation I don’t know for sure. I know I’ve never heard of it as a thing. If somebody gets hurt, they’ll sue or threaten, and usually get paid off. Everybody else? They’re probably offered a refund.
Howdy Y’all! It’s startin’ to rain here which it is predicted to do all night and into tomorrow. Oh no. I’ll have to stay in da cave. How will I ever survive?
JtC feel better soonest.
Pilot a casual invite to Morocco. How impressive!
MOOOOOOM maybe you get a voucher to the nearest FOTL sto’.
Going random places for no discernable reason on no notice is an odd lifestyle, but a fun one. There’s always an adventure going on there, whichever “there” we’re talking about. You’ll find out what it is when you get there.
Evening all. Had plenty of time at the pool so got 1.5 miles in on 3 shifts, with whirlpool time in-between and some sauna at the end. Been raining most of the day and will continue overnight, so Saturday will be a good day for sloth. Had my big bowl O’Sallit for dinner and since I was low on calories, it was a good excuse (IMHO) to break out the frozen cheese bread, so 4 slices =560 calories and my count (and stomach) are both good.
Got the written estimate from the HVAC company, will try and call them tomorrow or Monday to set up a date. And I did use my Debit card for the Firday groceries, worked just fine but apparently now I have to learn about the arcane mysteries of ‘cash back’.
Oopsie, hoping that the rain will relent when it comes time to unload the car.
Not swampy, but I’ve mentioned before that I usually stop at Jersey Mike’s on Monday and I always get the same thing (regular #3 on white, mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and a bag of Kettle chips). The crew there starts fixing it when I come in the door, they know my schedule so well. They are opening another one closer to my house, but I have this crew so well-trained…
Hippy, you had a much more …eventful…childhood than I did, happy it turned out alright for you.
{{{JtC}}}. Feel better soon.
Pilot, hope the legal untying of the knot continues to be civilized, and Morocco is one of those places I’d like to visit someday. Hope you get a second chance at it.
Mostly the second. The notice just went out on Tuesday and with Spring Break coming up next week I imagine there were lots of things going on. I expect a better turnout the next couple of times. Once the teams are made up and practices organized, then they start showing up.
red, very nice work.
Take care, rocky, don’t overdo. and thanks for the reminder to Spring forward this Sunday. Had totally forgotten about it.
And that’s all she wrote for today. Take care all and I’ll see you on the weekend.
Off to bed early. I has to get up and catch the bus to my first day at 7… In the rain. Still scared to eat anything harder than spagetti.
Feeling hopeful.
The job is done. We rocked it, and I think the client is happy.
When I booked my travel, I assumed we’d be doing a half-day tomorrow and therefore chose a late afternoon flight. We’re not working tomorrow, but I decided not to change to an earlier flight so I can take advantage of a no-curfew night and sleep late tomorrow. I’m currently sitting in an Irish pub in Old Town Portland, sipping an excellent house-brewed red ale and waiting on an order of bangers and mash.
We shall see where the evening takes me. It’s not Casablanca, but I’m hoping for at least some mild adventure.
Yeah, lesson learned. I’m never doing that again. I’m on the tail end of the first of my half doses to get back on top of it and I already feel much better. I can’t believe what a fog I was in - that dizziness was worse than I thought, I think.
