(Old) March forth into victory in the MMP!

Just thinking about it makes me cringe! But yay for no cancer!

MIL just got up. She’s having cinnamon toast and coffee. And so my day begins.

Morning all. Internal plumbing had me up before 7am so decided to stay that way and am now working my way through soccer stuff and doing my credit card check for the week (no problems). Still can’t get my e-mail to work via Firefox and MS Edge is a pain, but I am managing it. Nothing much on the agenda except getting some swimming in and the garbage out tonight. A little rain right now but supposed to clear out later this morning and get into the 60’sF.

red, ouch on the car repairs, that’s the time to be glad you have insurance.

hippie, my Mom’s side of the family (2 boys, 2 girls) was notable for at least a couple of them were not getting along at any one time, but never to that extent.

Coppertone, a rather eclectic mix of books you have, which I approve of. I’m working my way through some old 1960’s/70’s SF paperbacks that have been sitting in my bookcases for years, they are fine to read at the gym when I’m in the whirlpool/sauna or on the bicycle, and if they get a bit battered, well, such is life. Be nicer to your library books, however.

So far no car-eating potholes here in N. Ali-bama, but I’ll keep my eyes open.

shoe, hope your area doesn’t get the reputation as a speed trap, but then again with people turning in and out of it during the day and night, maybe that wouldn’t be a bad thing. And no jokes about long, green, thick vegetables from me, nosir, not me…

boo fae, there are just too many adults who refuse to adult. Enjoy your tea.

Laundry is something I try to face only once a month and then it pretty much consumes the day with 4-5 loads of it. So I guess that makes it a chore for me rather than a hmeh.

FCM, hope the boat passes inspection with flying colors.

Taters, feel better soon (that goes for all ailing Mumpers). And bitch and moan all you want here, we’ll listen.

OK, onward into the day. Take care all.

Mornin’ all. It’s about 9:30 and I’m up, sheveled, fed, and packed. Just happily killin’ a bit of time before my ride to the train station appears.

I heard a thunderstorm overnight during my brief sleep and everything is wet here in Miami and outdoors on the ship. It’s supposed to be a showery next few days, presently 74/23 on the way to 85/30.

Last night was an epic meal solo, then live jazz music with the previous night’s 40-ish yo until 1:30. No dancing; she was tired.

Now that’s funny. The website I found yesterday was https://www.mrscribspizzas.com/ . Which has the name spelled both ways. And is for a place out east of town on Hwy 46. Then just now I found a different website https://www.mrscribspizza.com/ (notice the last “s” isn’t there) which mentions three stores, none of which are the one at the other website. At least the folks on this second website can spell consistently.

Which makes me wonder how many more Mr. Scrib’s websites are out there for yet other franchises.

Apparently there is a lot of industrial intrigue in the Scribs / Scrib’s world.

Sari great story about your alarm dream. And happy Doperversary!!!

red, and Taters: I swear the world is out to get you two this month. Different details, same difficult result.

FCM: sounds like Mom is accepting her situation with decent graces. About the best that can be hoped for. Good luck for sure.

Cheers all!

Actually, that wasn’t my first go-to. The dealership reminded me that insurance would likely cover it.

There were times when my folks wanted to give us kids something that they had used for years, but no longer needed. Even if we didn’t need / want it, it became par for the course to take it anyway and donate it to someone who wanted it or the thrift store. MIL can’t see, so if you take something for the boat, it may well be the way to just find it a new home elsewhere.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to practice sloth and maybe some day drinkin’ today. Shoot, since I’m using my PTO time to finish up this mess and it’s raining / misting outside, that at least sounds a little relaxing.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

FCD and I have pretty much agreed that we’ll store boxes in the basement and after she’s gone, most of it will go to Habitat. There’s enough space down there that it won’t be a long-term problem.

I’ve got a bit batch of sloppy joes simmering on the stove and the bread maker is making the pizza dough. Physical therapist is here. And we got a bill from our old marina for electricity - except our boat hasn’t been there since early December, so I wrote back and asked what’s going on. We shouldn’t have to pay if someone else plugged into our slip. Dammit.

So another day in paradise.

So no Panamanian Vince today, but Shaggy almost was a competent employee, until the end. First, he goes to… the bathroom? right when we get slammed. then when he gets back, and there’s 200 yards of bags on the belt:
Shaggy: “Can…I…start the empty bag trailer now?”
Me: < briefly imagines Shaggy covered in honey and buried up to his ears in a fire ant nest > “NO! THERE’S ALL THAT WORK!”
But I did survive.

Somebody fainted/passed out, came to, and refused transport. Been there, done that.

One time at band campthe Walgreens in the Hood, about 50 cops were gearing up for a raid to spoil somebody’s day. I went about morning set up, when I got a call form the Rx Manager: “dogbutler, is everything…OK?” Took me a monment to figure out why he called.

Depends, were they out of pineapples, too?

Happy Doperversary, sari! :cake:

Dafuq?

Hopefully soon.
{{{{Coppertone}}}}

Perfect. The useless stuff, like 40 yo particleboard furniture, goes in the dumpster and everything else goes to a charity. You and any other extended family already have all the heirlooms you want / need.

Are forklift accidents a thing where you work? Or other equally lethal heavy machines? Baggage trains were the tool of choice amongst the IAM goons for goldbrick encouragement where I used to work.

As to me …

On the train to home. Still a warm gray day, and it’s rained a time or two already during the train ride. Bleh.

Laundry & POB for Amazons when I get home.

Tomorrow I need to get up at 0-stupid-thirty to drive my housemate to the airport to be there at 0445. Trying to decide what to do / where to go after I drop him. I’ll already be halfway to many areas I don’t hit too often anymore. But by the time I get to wherever down that way it’ll still be stupid early. So might just head straight back home. Doubly so if it’s as drippy as NWS predicts.

The who now?

Thinking of the fairychats at this hard time.

I’ve been getting ready for a conference this weekend. I’ll be giving two different poetry writing workshops and I have a vendor table for my books. If I don’t check in again before I go, cross your appendages that it’s worthwhile for me to haul 45 books (20 of one, 25 of the other, 3 of which are donations/gifts that a friend will schlep to Europe for me) across the country. I hope not to have to drag them back home.

At home, it’s snowing lightly. One of my lovely wife’s best friends is visiting, which is nice when I’m going to be away, and the neighbor just texted to get together–I won’t be here, but lovely wife and friend will.

My FIL was a woodworker - a real craftsman. I’m pretty sure particleboard never crossed their threshhold.

OMG, the sloppy joes smell soooooo good!! But they’re in the fridge for tomorrow’s supper. It’s one of those things that needs to sit to be really good, right? plus MIL and FCD have leftover Chinese food and I can heat up a can of soup, so tonight will be a lazy supper. Also I don’t feel like going out for buns, nor did I feel like making any, tho I might tomorrow. I did make Daughter’s pizza dough, so there’s that.

It’s been raining much of the day. Hard to get motivated…

The IAM = International Association of Machinists is one of the two large unions that represent the greasy grubby part of the airline industry. The other is the TWU = Transport Worker’s Union. The strong roughhewn men (and women) who fix jets and trucks, run the warehouses, sling the baggage and cargo, etc.

Dey bot’ have a very “industrial” approach to dey’r official labor relations wit’ management and dey’r unofficial relations wit’ any jerky or thieving cow-orkers. Stuff just happens to people sometimes and many shoulders are shrugged. Din’t see a ting. You gotta problem wit’ dat?

That is so cool. I know some folks like that. Craftsman-made furniture is wonderful.

OTOH, late aged MIL had some wonderful 1940s hardwood stuff and also some of the 1970s’ finest particle board. By the end they were all heirlooms to her. Some much less so than others to the rest of us.

LSLGuy’s March Cruise Pix.

Yay for multitasking! I’m a bit jealous as the stationary bikes at my gym don’t have tvs or even a shelf to hold a phone.

Oh vey! Hope you‘re back in your car soon and that Allstate doesn’t raise your rates.

Also good for mental health - have fun!

Sorry you’re going through this. :hugs:

Definitely. Hope the fridge gets fixed fast and stays fixed.

This morning I woke up to snow covering the daffodils and hyacinths. It continued all day, but changed to rain around noon. Met with the electrician for a small renovation project, and that hopefully won’t be too expensive.

Currently holding down a couch while hubby‘s band is playing Eye of the Tiger. They‘ve only been playing it a few weeks and it’s coming along well.

Time for their break, so I should press send.

!!!

Thank you for the report, I was worried!!!

Yeah, I kinda figured it was something like that. I have many words concerning the state of health care here.

I had to call my doctor for a refill on my maintenance meds today. A couple of months ago, I authorized my insurance to call my doctor to set up automatic refills so my doctor only wrote 30 day scripts for me. I ran out. I called my insurance who said they would get the auto refills set up right away. I called my doctor and she wrote another set of 30 day scripts. I still haven’t gotten any notification of the auto refills happening, so today we gave up and my doctor is writing the usual 90 scripts with refills.

Geeze, when it rains…

I hope your food is still there too.

It’s a shame that throat punching people is against the law.

Stay strong, NO extra work!!!

I had to skip right past that post. OWIE!!!

I am far too lazy to do that. I used to do it weekly, but now I just toss a load in whenever I think I have enough of whatever.

You didn’t have to tell me that, LOL!!!

It’s great that the dealership chose to deal with insurance instead of letting you pay and then try to get reimbursed. Many wouldn’t.

Mom on the phone, ttyl

Belated Happy Birthday to spicey :birthday: , and Happy Doperversary to sari! :cake:

I’ve survived yet another election day, and my first presidential primary (as an election officer). There was never a crowd/line and we had a few quiet stretches, but turnout wasn’t bad and there were no issues. All of my fellow officers were experienced and competent, and we had a great Chief and Assistant Chief. So it was a good day, but a very long day: my alarm went off at 3:30am (we had to be there NLT 5am; the polls opened at 6am), and I walked in my front door at 8:35pm (the polls closed at 7pm). 90 minutes to wrap everything up isn’t bad at all, though; in the past, I’ve gotten home much later. I had some doggy cleanup to do/laundry to start – as I expected, after leaving Bailey home alone for 16 hours – then sat on the couch for about an hour to unwind (and eat some popcorn), and crashed at around 10:30pm.

I set my alarm for 7:30 this morning, but woke up at around 6:00. I refused to get out of bed that early for no reason, though, so I dozed for another hour. Today I’m quite tired and my sinuses are playing up again: I started out well enough this morning, but I expect to hit a wall within the hour. I need some groceries but am too tired to leave the house, so I decided to Instacart some things from Wegman’s. The delivery should get here right around 3pm. This morning I warned my boss and fellow senior managers that I’m likely to log off early…I think I’m going to wrap up this post and then be done for the day.

I’ll be more sociable tomorrow.

MIL is sooooooo worried about something happening to her health insurance. Even tho the hospice people told her everything is covered by Medicare, she’s terrified that if she goes into hospice, she’ll lose her insurance. How many ways by how many people will it take for her to accept that hospice has no effect on her health insurance?? It’s driving FCD crazy - he doesn’t want to yell at his mother - I can see his frustration. She’s fixated…

Rain continues - it’s such a dreary day here. My yard looks like crap and until we get some dry days, it shall continue to look like crap. I want to rake, dammit!!!

Sweetie, it’s a restaurant supply store; they don’t carry adult diapers.

For everyone who would like some fresh flowers, please enjoy our local bounty:

Lovely!

I used to have tulips in the front yard but the javalina dug them all up and ate them.

Our new stove is here. GG was not pleased when hubs pulled our old stove out and put it in the living room so we could clean up. He doesn’t like it when we change things in his house.

Mom called me to tell me that she had gotten an email from the needlepoint designer and our threads have been shipped, so we both are pretty happy about that. She said she did get to the post office yesterday and my package is on the way. I send her a weekly “care” package with whatever I’ve baked during the week and little treats I’ve come across. She requested Russian Tea Cakes in her next package so that I will be testing our new oven on them.

Thank you for doing that! I’m not surprised you are worn out, you had a really long day.

Afternoon all. Did a mile of swimming fairly early so I could get back to watch the soccer games and be ready to help train coaches this evening, but the fields have been closed due to the rain the past couple of days so might go back to the gym later after dinner and get another half-mile in along with whirlpool and sauna time. Cheeseburgers are defrosted and ready for cooking around 5pm. It’s 65F outside but feels colder in the house or it’s just me. Either way not much else planned.

One good piece of news, my Federal Refund got dumped into my checking account so I have some more dollars available for the month. Not expecting Ali-bama’s before April, they are not the speediest folks in the universe.

JtC, hurrah for the new oven.

Oopsie, sounds like a long day, but it’s volunteers like you who keep this sometimes rattle-trap republic of ours functioning. Well done.

FCM, hope you can talk MIL out of her fixation, or maybe she’ll just forget she was worried about it.

suzie, hope the workshops go well and the books are well-received.

OK, a little more TV watching and then Cheeseburger Time! Have a good evening all.

I think maybe this is the situation:

She has long internalized that Medicare does not pay for nursing homes or assisted living. She’s watched 4 decades of scare-mongering adverts for long term care insurance, and worried about having to spend every penny she has on a nursing home, leaving no inheritance for FCD and sibs. Or of running out of money even earlier and being cast onto the street.

And now, in her scared and at least a bit confused state (starving to death will do that to you), she’s mixed up “Medicare won’t pay for nursing home” into “Medicare won’t pay for hospice.”

I found with MIL, that once she got scared about something it was real hard to disabuse her. The emotion part overrode the logic part pretty thoroughly. But sleuthing out the something she was almost right about, but had goofed up a critical detail, and explaining it to her that way worked pretty well. e.g.

You: Mom, you’re almost right; Medicare won’t pay for a nursing home. That’s not the same thing as hospice. Medicare will pay for hospice.
MIL: Oh. Yeah. You’re right, it’s nursing homes. Boy, I don’t ever want to go there. Well OK then …

That technique sure worked a lot better than repeating “You are wrong. Medicare doesn’t work that way.”

I know you’ve said her mind is as sharp as ever. But it’s evident she’s scared / confused about this thing, and this thing isn’t real. Maybe this approach can help.

*Whew* Long day.

Apparently I clobbered a suite of programs for some data last month. Like, three sort programs and the last one. I had to recreate them (one sort, one match, one write-to-output) this morning. Then I had some data that needed a lot of cleaning up. That took a while. Plus data verifications and completion notices from BMNCRA. Then doing some shovelling on the first-of-the-month datalanche.

I had some Trader Joe’s lamb vindaloo for breakfast (I didn’t eat the rice), a chicharron con carne for a snack, and psyllium husks for lunch. I’m getting a little hungry. I’m boiling a couple of eggs. Mrs. L.A. suggested I make tuna-and-egg salad for sandwiches tonight. Sounds better than lettuce/chicken meat/cheese/bacon bits salads.

Anyway, I’m bushed and hungry.

Oh, and the propane guy came today, there’s a $200+ bill. :frowning:
