Have you eaten at Keenan’s in Bellingham? Looking for somewhere nice to take relatives up there.
Thank you for serving during the election oopsie.
The first place I went after getting the rental yesterday was to vote in the primary. Not a lot of choice other than local elections, but I strongly endeavor to vote nonetheless. Once I retire, I’ll likely volunteer to sit elections as well.
Today was another drizzly day, so I messed around in the studio and will do that some more this evening. I so need to call the dealership to see how the car is coming along.
No, we haven’t. Looks nice though… but it looks like it’s out of our price range. OTOH, I could probably make a meal out of the lamb meatballs and the steamed mussels and clams.
Here our primaries are closed. There is no D primary and the R one will be in about 2 weeks. So no primary ballot for me.
But we have two city council races on the ballot, so I did get a ballot for that in the mail about 1 week ago which was sent back the next day.
Shot Day. I walked to and from the bus station. All told, I did 7 miles, so not bad. My knee feels better, though the big bump hasn’t diminished even a little.
The bus ride back to my city was interesting. The guy across from me got a call from his daughter. She’s in jail for assaulting another woman. He told her he’d put money on her book and would attend the trial, but, “You have to do your time.” He said he’d had to do his time when he assaulted her mom, and the daughter beat up that woman and would have to do her time. (10-20 years. He filled in those of us nearby.) Then he got a call from his ex. I’m not sure what she wanted, but he kept saying, “You have to be her parent, not her friend. I’m her parent first, friend second.” Apparently the mom went clubbing and did drugs with the daughter. Mom’s done jail time, too, a sad family tradition.
I played hand games with the three-year-old next to me. So much fun, and those sweet giggles made my day.
red, I’m appalled at what happened to your car. I hope between the city/state and your insurance, you’re fully compensated. Your experience reminded me of this old commercial:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4X3k83xf4eY
That’s not the anti-vaxxer Jenny McCarthy, is it? I imagine it’s a common name. I fully approve putting library books over chores.
Mine, too. The night nurse stayed with her overnight and promised to call us if her vitals started slipping, which he did. And they were able to answer questions and reassure us.
Aww. this made me smile. And I’m so sorry about your mom’s forgetfulness.
Holy frick. Barbarians! Just the thought makes me wince. They couldn’t even numb you up beforehand?
No apologies necessary. You have good reasons for bitching and moaning!
Lily, safe travels, and I hope your load is considerably lighter on the return trip.
You get more done on an unmotivated day than most people do in a motivated week.
Dinner accomplished. I’m glad she suggested I make it. The cats got tuna water after their gooshy food, so I think they’re glad too. We had bread-and-butter pickle chips on the side, and I also had some kimchi.
Yes,Jenny McCarthy. Shes a talented and funny writer.
Theres also a Jenna McCarthy, who is a great writer.
Well, Q’itih’s bloodwork was negative, which is good. The probiotics are doing their job and she is back to non-liquid poop. She is also tolerating me shooting the liquid allergy med into her mouth twice a day. She really does trust that we won’t hurt her. The vet suspects a possible brain lesion (cancer, in other words), but we are pretty averse to any extraordinary measures. If she starts to rapidly decline, then we’ll have to take appropriate measures then, but subjecting this lovely friend to the horrors of surgery and recovery is just not something we want to saddle her or us with. Meanwhile, we will love her and give her all the skritches and treats she can handle.
Thanks, I kept worrying about the oven elements, they had to be unscrewed to pull out.
The new one has a clock with BIG numbers and a timer. The nuke has a timer and a clock with small numbers so the stove clock is an improvement.
I’m going to try to remember this, I know it will come in handy sooner or later. Thank you.
That’s only half of what it cost for the last tank we had filled so there is that.
I used to be a county worker during the elections so got paid by the hour, plus OT. I worked the front lines during the Obama election back in 2008 and it was a nightmare here in racist redneck land. I scheduled dental work for the week before the 2012 election so I could avoid working at a polling place.
Let me repeat myself. I chose a root cannel and an extraction over working that election.
I’ve volunteered for the election department in many other ways since then, but I’m too much of a wimp to subject myself to the abuse this election will cause.
I said all that to say that I really respect the volunteers who bravely do what I will not. (I also bring the volunteers at the local polling place two batches of brownies every year. I make the walnut free brownies first because I try to be considerate.)
That’s a very sad story, but he sounds like a pretty good dad. He’s trying to do his best with what he has.
Every so often hubs will wonder how we always end up with spoiled cats, while I’m shaking my head in confusion. I have NO idea, honey, it’s a mystery to me!!!
(We don’t care if our socks and unders get wrinkled under the warmth of a dozing cat and I have never once worried about having wrinkled towels
)
The thing that made me sad/happy is that my address is in her contact list as well as in her address book. I check to be sure every time we are together. OTOH, I’m lazy enough to know that it easier to ask someone the answer than to look it up for myself, and if she has now reached my level of laziness…good on her!
That is all you, you are good kitty slaves.
You are very good kitty slaves. I hope she will have many more healthy years.

Edited because somehow I managed to forget to post this pic that VanGo sent of the eclipse viewer he made for me.
We will be the envy of all at the viewing!
It’s only been a month since they filled it last. And the electricity bill was also over $200. I’ll sure be glad when Winter is over.
The Spousal Unit started a fire.
If only it had just been a tire! I just put on two new front ones with road hazard warranty. I may call a former neighbor who works road construction in that area (the state and county hire the company that he works for to patch potholes) to see if they are working on that one.
cookie, you and MrsCookie are truly compassionate companions to Q’iteh. Hugs and skritches to you and her.
Howdy Y’all! Been home a while from the Wednesday thang, but had to have some Netflix and chill first. Some very good beef/veggie soup and chikin sallit croissants were eaten and we had a very lively discussion tonight. We went a little over the scheduled time, but I did keep it within reason. I am a good facilitator.
sari Happy Doperversary. Enjoy the piece of cake!
Lily appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed for the workshops and the vendor tables. May you sell out and get orders for more books.
Pilot nice pics. The food looks great and might I say you look snazzy in those red pjs.
JtC yay for arrival of new stove. Eclipse viewers all over Dallas will be green with envy!
Oopsie good on you for bein’ a poll worker. I could do that now that I am a retired drain on society, but have never felt like it’s a thing I’d want to do.
MOOOOOOM who knows why MIL is fixated on losin’ her health insurance. Maybe what Pilot said will help.
Nellie every family has traditions. Some get together on holidays. Some have jail time experiences.
OUCH!!!
Would it maybe help to buy SWMBO some sweat pants and nice sweaters in her favorite colors? Our cats just love sleeping on my lap when I’m in my fleece pants. All of our cats before GG have gotten cuddlier when it’s cooler inside, GG gets frisky when it’s cold.
Make the volunteers some treats. I’ll bet they would love a mess of your cheese sticks (sorry, forgot the name). I was just talking to Mom who told me not to make brownies or a sheet cake for ours because they need cleanish finger food. Cookies will happen.
GG just noticed the new stove and it scared him into fluffing. He looks three times bigger when he’s fully fluffed, I’m sorry that we were too busy laughing to take pics.
Well…all but one. NF has also ordered one. If I didn’t like VanGo as much as I do, I might not have told her about them, but he needs the money more than I need to be the Belle of the Ball. Of course that doesn’t mean that I have to sit next to NF during the viewing, she can have half of the envy and I will take the other half.
Evening, All!
I’ve been reading but haven’t had a lot of time to post. Appropriate yays and boos and hugs and slaps and noogies to all the fine Mumpers.
It’s been a pretty decent week so far in Portland. Not as much rain as predicted, but the car was covered in frost this morning. Brrrr.
This week’s job is just a straight-up inventory count rather than the usual organizing/rearranging/labeling sort of thing we often do, so it’s been pretty mellow. We’re even doing the cycle count on paper, which I didn’t think anybody even did anymore.
The only drama was that we blew through about half the sheets on day one, and thus began to worry about not getting a full week’s work. Then we realized we had only about a third of the storeroom locations printed out.
The clarification came down from above that we (just two of us) are not expected to count the entire storeroom. They hired us for a week, flat, and gave us printouts for as much as they figured we’d get done. “If you use those up, just ask for more!” Man, what a stress-free way to work! No fire drills at the end of the week scrambling to finish, and no stretching out a light job to fill the hours (which I hate doing). We’ve already exceeded expectations, and I think we’ll actually come pretty close to doing the whole room. But we don’t have to. Win-win!
My co-worker and I drove over the bridge to Vancouver last night and had a nice dinner at a McMenamins right on the river. Good food, good beer, and good companionship. The two of us will be teamed up again in Arizona in two weeks, and we’ve already got tickets to catch a Cactus League game. It’s good when I actually like the people I have to spend all week (or more) with.
Well, time to watch some old sitcoms on my laptop and try to make an early night of it. I always say that, yet always seem to be up past 11 anyway, despite the alarm setting of 5:30. Oh well.
You have to remember, swampy lives in Georgia, he can’t even give them a drink of water. I’ll say nothing more than that in the MMP.
I napped. Spot napped with me, sans shennagans. I had a martini, and meatballs and cheese tortellini.
It’s a sea of danger. and if Purple belt jammed just right, we could have a literal Acme Anvil accident. ![]()
And looks like another fun cruise.
Hank Hill is happy, but it sucks for your wallet.
I wonder if you can do slightly less than all day in N.C.
{{{{Cookie}}}}
After 30 year in retail(half that in pharmacies), I should volunteer, because I am used to that level of abuse.
Happy Hump Day!
Horrible morning at the park.
I don’t know how it is going to go tomorrow.
It’s almost 11, more later
Evening all. Had a Dumbth moment, drove over to the gym and when I went to get my membership card out of my wallet…no wallet, I had forgot to pick it up. In my defense I had left it in a spot I don’t normally leave things and while getting keys, change, watch and stuff from the usual places my brain assumed the wallet was included. Oops. So back home, picked it up, and went back for another round of backstroking and sauna time.
Weather permitting, soccer will start tomorrow with a 10U girls ‘pre-season workout and evaluation’. I ended up the Coordinator for that group, don’t know how many of the 47 girls will show up, but it’ll be loud and fun outside for an hour or so. Then soccer will be a part of my week through the 24th of May.
Well, heck, I had just started writing to all y’all and my desktop screen went blank and won’t seem to turn on. Have restarted the computer twice and double-checked the connections, all good but no picture. So I’m typing this and the rest on my laptop, in bed, under a nice warm king-sized comforter, which all told is not a bad trade. Anyway…
JtC, the clock on my stove is larger, but the microway one is right at eye level, so that;s my go-to.
flyboy, think you earned your wages today. Combined gas and electric was around $250 this month, so I feel your pain.
nellie, your stories from the bus are always readable, if in this case a bit painful. We’ll probably never know if that broken family will ever get things right, we can only hope (and for those that do, pray). And playing games with 3-year olds is always fun,
Cookie, sounds like Q’itih’s (sounds like a Klingon cat) doing pretty well, but at her age…
Wheelie, sounds like you’re doing a good job for a company that respects you guys work, like you say, a win-win situation. Glad you and cow-orker get along so well, I imagine it would be tough if you were completely different personalities,
{{Sari}}, sounds like you’ll be needing them.
Apologies for anyone I missed, scrolling on a laptop isn’t quite as easy and with a large screen, but I’ll make do. Take care all.
I forgot to mention that a woman on the bus turned to me and said, “Do you have a phone charger? I’ll swap you for some weed.” She held up a joint. I said, “No, I’m really sorry.” She then turned to the rest of the bus and shouted, “Anybody got a charger to swap for some weed?” Alas, nobody did. People sure are neighborly on the bus! Not sure what I would’ve done with the joint. Maybe saved it in case JtC or shoe dropped in.
That reminds me that yesterday when I walked by the soccer fields, I saw about 30 kids running in a group around the fields, Do your kiddos train at the field?
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. For the 3rd time in 2 days since the FB Winter of Missed Content, I’ve had a post removed because"It looks like you tried to get likes, follows, shares or video views"
My AI dude, that’s the whole point of the joint. Also they won’t show it to me, so I can’t figure out why it is removed.
