(Old) March forth into victory in the MMP!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 51 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 74 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Today I intend on the agenda bein’ one of high sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’. I have a big gnawin’ and a cravin’ for fried chikin, so sup (actually probably N.O.L.) shall be fried chikin plates from the Pubic Sto’. Maybe I can do sad puppy dawg eyes at OYKW and get him to go pick 'em up.

JtC and red I could probably make treats for poll workers, but couldn’t hand ‘em out to folks waitin’ in line to vote. Maybe cheese thangs or some chawklit chip/pee-kahn cookies would be welcomed. Also, JtC poor GG. The new big shiny thing in the kitchen is a scary monster!

doggio sounds like the book of faces AI thinks you are an attention ho’.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

AND NOW THIS…

HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY DEEEAAARRR BBBOOOOOOFFFAAAEEE!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!

I think this is part of it. But what’s weird - FIL was in hospice and she never once expressed this worry, even tho the insurance is part of his retirement. The thing is - she obsesses.

For example, 30-some years back when Florida initiated their lottery, she was reluctant to buy tickets because: what if she won the big jackpot then someone kidnapped Daughter and held her for ransom to get the winnings?!?!?!? Or the time Daughter was on a cruise to Bahamas and Key West and there was a hurricane in the southern Caribbean - she wanted us to call Daughter so she could tell the ship’s captain about the hurricane. I’m serious. It’s just the way she is and has always been.

Very nice - but what sort of cat toy will it make after the viewing??

MetalMouse - you have to be the only person I’ve known who actually uses a gym membership! My associations have been with good intentions that fizzle out after a few weeks. That includes us back when we lived near a “Y”… I’m impressed.

Happy BooFae Day!!!

Speaking of MIL, her sister and her other DIL are planning visits - not at the same time, thank goodness. AuntB wants to come in early June for MIL’s b-day. This assumes, of course, that MIL is still alive then. I’m OK with AuntB and UncleJ visiting, even tho she can out-talk my mother, which is nigh-on impossible. However, there’s Sadie, their dog. Actually it’s AuntB with Sadie - the woman is constantly correcting and nagging at the pup and it drives me bat-crap crazy!! Sadie isn’t ill-behaved, she just likes attention, but AuntB gets on the poor dog’s case when she approaches anyone. In any event, I think that visit is highly unlikely anyway as AuntB is nearly 80, UncleJ has pretty severe Parkinson’s, and it’ll probably take them 3 days to drive from Indy. Well, that, and I will be amazed if MIL lives that long.

As for my late BIL’s widow, apart from a personality that kinda grates on me (which I’ve learned to deal with over the years) I found out after her last visit that she’s as much of a racist as her late spouse. She likes where she lives in Texas because there aren’t as many Mexicans and blacks - yeah, she said that. Classy, no? And she does realize that my SIL is black and my grands are, therefore, mixed. But she still said that. So racist and clueless? I don’t know what her plans are, so with luck, that visit won’t happen either.

Gee, I complain a lot, don’t I? But there’s so much to complain about!!

Except not the weather today - at least not so far. It’s sunny and around 50 Ferrits, headed to low 60s. No rain till late tomorrow into Saturday, so maybe I’ll get a couple of days of raking! Yay!! I was going to put my spider plants back outside, but I saw several nights next week are supposed to be in the 30s, so I’ll hold off a bit longer.

Oh, and I need to run to Food Lion today - they have chicken wings on sale, and FCD loves chicken wings in the air fryer, so I’ll get some. And I need buns for tonight’s sloppy joes. So as soon as I shower and don appropriate attire, I’ll head to L-town.

Happy Thursday!!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 8c/46f with a predicted high of 9c/48f and cloudy. Weather app declares that “This is literally the perfect day to stay the fuck inside and try a new fucking hobby. Might I fucking suggest witchcraft?” I would, but, work and paying the bills, right?

doggio farcebook obviously considers you nothing but an attention seeker and therefore a Thoroughly Bad Sort.

nellie your bus journey was much more eventful than mine! Today the Travel Gods were almost smiling on me - got out in time for the early bus, got to the station with enough time to retrieve some pre-booked tickets from the machine, got to Big City Station and decided to get a bus instead of waiting 15mins for the next train to campus. Bus decided to sit at some roadworks and temporary traffic lights for about 10mins, so I would have been on campus earlier if I’d waited for the train!

Wheelie sounds like your company respects and trusts you to do a good job. Those people are few and far between.

{{{{{sari}}}}} sounds like you’ll be needing those.

Busy irk day for me today, I’ve met with my minions to discuss performance and development, now got to tinker with paperwork to include the extra bits we talked about, and then I have another small bit of documentation to complete before I can ask them if they’re happy to sign off on it. Got a meeting with my boss this afternoon so I can raise a couple of things there, and then I need to amend my holiday booking since my union has called for three strike days later this month. Two of those I’ve booked as leave, so I’m unbooking them and having the leave days back, then I can claim the lost money back from the union’s strike fund. Win-win!

Mornin’!

It’s 28 degrees Fahrenheit and partly cloudy. There is frost on the ground. Our expected high is 48 degrees Fahrenheit, and it promises to be a sunny afternoon.

Happy Birthday, boofae!

We vote by mail, so I won’t be volunteering at poll stations. Honestly, I couldn’t do it, so extra kudos to you, misnomer. Also, that was one long-assed day! Frankly, the election season has barely started, and I’m sick of it and just angry at how nasty everything is. I want to be a hermit on a mountain far, far, far away from people and politics. I used to love politics and a good debate. There is no more debate, just name-calling. That’s enough of that, and that’s all I’m saying.

Work was a series of cluster-you know what. I won’t bore you all with the details, but once again, I was left wondering how people adult in their personal lives. There were many issues, some of which certainly did not require my intervention, but I was asked to intervene and did. Anyway, at 10 hours in, I called it it quits. Today will be 12 or more hours.

FCM, you’re not complaining. You’re dealing with quite a lot; frankly, it’s been one long, non-stop series of unfortunate events for your family. Your SiL sounds awful, and I wouldn’t want her in my home.

I hope today is better for you, sari.

nellie, I love the stories of the people you meet.

I know there’s more, but I’m bleary-eyed and tired. I will finish my coffee and proceed with my usual kitchen clean-up before starting work.

Thanks. Not really in our range, either, but might be good for the “thanks for hosting” meal.

Happy birthday BooFae!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted. I need to get on the horn to the dealership shortly to check on the car’s progress. After that, I have to do paperirk for the ADA accomodation thing. Then, I’ll get sheveled and hit the post office to mail a birthday card. At least it’s not raining.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

That is sometimes the case, while other times we get baby-sat and micromanaged. It mostly depends on the particular Project Manager you get, as well as how demanding the client is.
But overall, I’ve had a good experience with the company.

Oatmealed, egged, caffeinated and Wordled (in 2!). Zombie trip to Fort Snelling today for some history, if the new driver can find it. He’s seemingly a bit hopeless so far, but I’m sure he’ll improve. Either that or they’ll find our bleached bones on the shore of some distant lake.

Somebody went to therapy and remembered his lesson.

Sometimes, you hafta say things over and over. To yourself, and to others.

There’s an old legend about cats, and how our hearts are weighed when we die.

The nice stuff about online things is there’s a written trace.

You just hafta find it.

Oh, crap, I’m supposed to worry about this, too, now?

Just kidding. That’ll never happen.

Is he … okay??

What’d I do?

Thank you, for one HELLUVA sneeze/laugh/fart/hiccup.

Around here, a charger costs more than a preroll.
Like, about double.

Cuz ppl just love when a random person’s relatives tell them how to do their job.

I assume you were the “gatekeeper” on that one.

How on earth is someone who’s that distantly “related” still in your life and continuing to bother you?

Something that always strikes me as a bit off - people who say “My child/mother/father is my best friend!” I always got along with my parents and I enjoyed doing things with them, but never in a million years would I have considered them friends. They were my parents. Friends are the ones you complain to about your parents! Maybe it’s my perception of the definition of friend…

Her interest is in our mutual MIL, not us. I’m going to assume that after the tenuous connection is gone, she’ll maybe send an occasional Christmas card, but that’s all.

I scored a nice tray of wings at Food Lion, plus a few other items I didn’t know I needed. Came home to find Daughter here - she’s in the shop with her dad making something for her turtle tank. I helped MIL shower - got her to the bathroom, set up the stool and the hand-held shower head, helped her get into the stall, helped her get out and dry off, and handed her clothes and helped her dress. That short evolution wore her out completely and she asked to go back to bed. The PT will be here between 11-12, so I’ll let her sleep till about 10:40, then bring her out to the living room and get her socks and shoes on. She’ll likely lie down again till Yvette gets here.

And it’s not 10:30 yet!!

The morning sun disappeared - dunno if I’ll be able to rake or not - it drizzled on me as I came home from the store. So we shall see.

Happy Birthday, BooFae!

I am officially healthy, woot! Still runny nose but am used to that.
Mailing off my rent; my wonderful church friend gave it to me, so thank God for providing. ( its 25 dollars. Once I get paychecks, it will be a third of my pay.)
Its sunny out!
Off to the library.

Neg. finally! Whee! Still have the cough and intestinal upset. I’ll be back to work on Monday.

Very adroit word play considering our doggio’s line of work :clap:t3::clap:t3::clap:t3::clap:t3:

:notes::musical_score::musical_note:hippo birdies two ewes, hippo birdies two ewes :tada::birthday::confetti_ball::cake::partying_face::cupcake: dearest boo fae!:birthday::confetti_ball::cake::tada::cupcake::musical_score::notes::musical_note:

So Panamanian Vince was back, but they sent him elsewhere, so I was stuck with Shaggy again. He was complaining about his back hurting again. Dude, your back hurts and you have the musculature of a 2 day old infant. Why in Thor’s name did you apply for a warehouse job? But I did my Teeter run and got my senior discount. Looking old and decrepit pays off!

Well, that is the image I try to project.
Also,
 :birthday: :champagne: ***HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! :champagne: :birthday:

He tried to eat my hand when I got home, so he’s back to being Spot.

W00T!

Yay!

It’s checks calendar Thursday??? There must have been a wormhole or something here. Where does the time go?

There’s no way in earth I’ll be able to catch up, so I’m going to skim - it’s not for lack of interest!

First of all, happy birthday to
spicey (although much belated) and boo fae!! And kudos to oopsieand red for doing your civil service at the polls! That 12-hour day is a bear, but where would we be without people willing to do it?

cookie, it’s a tough balancing act when our pets get older. You’re wise for not putting Q’itih through difficult surgery at her age. Give her a tiny boop on the nose from me, won’t you?

FCM, it’s daunting to think about dealing with the idea of visits, even if they weren’t difficult in themselves, in the middle of trying to care for MIL. The Scarlett O’Hara approach sounds like a good one - June is a long way off and you can think about it later.

I’ve gotten roped into activities every morning this week. A friend of my daughter’s is going through a divorce. She works out of town three days a week, and now that she’s very suddenly living alone, she’s been needing a lot of help. She’s usually very self-sufficient, so I’m sure she’ll come up with a workable system soon, but for now, my daughter and I are the only people she knows who have flexible schedules.

On Monday, we went to the art exhibition featuring a painter we know, and I discovered that Mr. L has a weakness for impulse purchases of art! We’re now the proud owners of two more of his paintings (we have one of his from some years ago over our sofa), but we agreed to lend them back to the gallery until the end of March. So I have three weeks to figure out where to hang two fairly large paintings. There are definitely worse problems.

Happy Thursday to you all!

I sure hope you have the sort of sealed fireplace that adds warmth to your house, not the typical decorative fireplace that sucks all the heated air in your house up out the chimney while making some nice radiant heat within a couple feet of the fire itself.

The former is a great way to warm your house. The latter is a great way to double your heat bill and be even colder than before.

We shan’t discuss red underwear.

I managed not to get a pic of my last night’s wardrobe which included the matching pants for the pink linen suit. With black dress loafers but red socks. Pink suits on straight guys are not unusual in Miami. Probably kinda rare in small town GA.

Oh yeah. Nothing beats a work trip with a like-minded and convivial co-worker.

And nice to hear you’re a) kickin it outta the park, and b) under no stress doing so. Those are by far the best jobs / workdays.

Late aged MIL was like that too.

She’d grown up in the hills (they called them “mountains”, but that was silly; they’re hills) of CT and was quite used to severe winter. By the time she was 70-something she was happily and capably living in a single family home in Tucson while we were living in St. Louis.

She loved to watch the Weather Channel and breathlessly call us to warn us whenever “a storm” was coming. “Storm” as in “It might rain today or snow an inch”. I eventually installed a webcam so she could look at our backyard at any time and see that the trees hadn’t been ripped out by their roots, nor was the snow 8 feet deep and blowing sideways. That helped assuage her obsessive worrying a lot. At least about storms.

Which only left another hundred things for her to obsessively worry about. She was a dear, but a worrying dear.

Yaay! About time. And double good about the rent gift.

You too! Woot!

As to me …
It’s straight up noon on a day that has been by turns rainy, drizzly, cloudy, and sunny between clouds. NWS sez 78/26 on the way to 81/27. Some chance of thunderstorms but the radar is clear now.

Got home yesterday and got my erranding and laundry done as expected. Had a health night then slept 10 hours overnight and may do the same again tonight.

My housemate had intended to travel to SoCal today via non-rev standby on the 5am departure. Our plan was for him to get an uber at 3:15am, but if that glitched I’d be rolled out of bed at 3:30am to rush him to the airport ~30 minutes away.

He’d chosen that horrific departure time because the flight had few booked passengers so he could be assured of getting on, not being left behind. Mid-late evening Wed he double-checked the passenger loads. Good thing. The flight had filled up and he’d have gone to the airport in vain. So he bought a ticket on a more civilized departure time.

Anyhow we both knew that revision last night so I was able to sleep in a bit, then we both got sheveled & fed, then I ran him to the airport in rainy traffic, then drove home while the freeways were drying out and speeding up to normal.

Now I have the place to myself for a week+. Which’ll be real nice; as I’ve said, some of his friends are great, some are grating.

I’m now wasting time w y’all, then will tackle some minor erranding and planning for my next event. Might include a nap in the sun if we can get any sun that’s not interrupted by sky-dribbling.

Cheers all!!

It’s an EPA-rated Napoleon brand wood-burning stove insert. It has a variable-speed fan that blows hot air from a vent on top, and it’s very good at warming the house.

Our stove.

Yes, we have a bunch of soccer fields at the parks we use, but use is dependent on the city Parks and Recreation and if we get rain they usually close them for a day or two…and we get lots of rain here in the spring. And personally I am against doing laps, would rather have the kids doing soccer things and running that way. For younger players, you try to avoid the Three L’s…Laps, Lines, and Lectures.

Boo fae, a most happy birthday to you.

FCM, thank you, I never saw the inside of a gym since high school but a couple years ago I decided that being over 290lbs was not a good thing and that I’d try one of the many gyms around here. Once it became a habit I found it easy to do. Hope if the visits occur that they are relatively peaceful.

Been an eventful morning. Got a new monitor for the computer at BJ’s, it’s a nice 32" one but it kept wanting me to connect to Bluetooth (don’t have) or my wireless network and my one call to Samsung for help got routed via Jupiter, so I just kept pressing buttons until if finally worked. Still have to get the contrast and sharpness right, though…

So that ate up most of the morning, garbage can is out and I can here the melodious tones of the truck approaching, so that will be returned to the garage once emptied. Weather is fairly nice and dry, so hope is there for soccer today, and maybe some gym time.

Have a good Thorsday all.

Awesome rig! Congrats!

I had a similar gizmo in the finished basement of my silly McMansion, but it was natural-gas fired. So not really a money-saver - more of a style perk. But either way it’d cook you right out of the downstairs in a way no conventional forced air HVAC system ever could. I loved it in winter.

The only hard part was at bedtime persuading yourself to leave the toasty basement for the frigid main floor where our bedroom was.
