(Old) March forth into victory in the MMP!

It’s been a quiet week at Casa de Peedin. Monday I saw the gynecologist’s P.A. Tuesday had my knee injected, the third of 3 shots. It has helped tremendously. Wednesday I had a dexa bone scan. Today got my allergy shots. Tomorrow Ariel gets her feet trimmed. Yesterday Ursala Kitteh took a dump on the living room floor. She has NEVER not used the box. I think she has been a bit constipated, things let loose, and she couldn’t get upstairs in time. Talked with my niece for 2 hours yesterday about the Parkinson’s situation. My BIL fell AGAIN. My sister’s size 4 jeans are getting loose. She can’t lose any more weight. Tomorrow there is a conference call with a home health agency. Their life cannot continue like this.

You are a practical and solution-oriented person. I sincerely salute that.

Happy birthday, boofae!

I went to bed early and slept well, and am feeling 95% “normal” today (there’s still some lingering sinus foolishness, but it’s better). My eyes opened at 6am again, an hour before my alarm was set to go off, but I managed to go back to sleep – or, at least, doze fairly heavily – after a quick bathroom visit. 'Tis nice to feel more-or-less recovered.

When it comes to feeding poll workers, light snacks might be appreciated but personally I’d advise against any actual food. This rule might vary, but at least in my county we aren’t allowed to eat in the main polling area: anything more than a snack means leaving our station/taking a break, and breaks are often planned and scheduled. So you’d need to get something there NLT 11am and would have to be able to leave the container, in order to account for the various breaks. Also, we all plan ahead/pack for a full day of our meal needs; anything substantive could result in waste (of either something we brought or what you brought). Two last things: (a) food allergies/restrictions could result in an unfair situation, and (b) not every polling place has a kitchen or break room or a convenient place to keep (or reheat) stuff. I could see happily accepting a cookie or a small bag of chips or something – like the full-size Hershey bars someone brought us in November! – but anything close to “real” food could maybe be an issue. That said, on Tuesday I did daydream about someone asking our Chief for permission to order us a pizza at the end of the day…

Yesterday’s Instacart from Wegmans arrived on time, and with no substitutions/refunds; yay! In addition to my “necessities,” I decided to get a few Wegmans brand items for the first time: tonight for dinner I’ll try their chicken quesadilla trumpet appetizers (“chicken, peppers, spices, pepper jack cheese, and cheddar cheese wrapped in a crispy tortilla trumpet”), and afterwards I’ll experiment with their sugar-free strawberry gelatin cups. They’re a slightly different color from the Jell-O brand cups that were already in the fridge; I’m curious about how the taste will compare.

My post-election slothing ends tonight: tomorrow evening I have a personal training session at the gym, and on Saturday I have both another training session (in the morning) and a volunteer event (late afternoon). The venue is very close to my BFFs’ house, so I’ll see if they might be up for lunch and/or a short visit before the event starts. All year, Wife BFF has been struggling with recurring infections and significant fatigue and generally crappier-than-usual health: her doc is stumped, but all kinds of tests are being done. Meanwhile she’s been started on yet another different antibiotic, which is messing with both her stomach and her balance…and she’s already a fall risk. Meh. Anyway, she never knows how she’ll feel day-to-day so we’ll play the Saturday visit by ear.

I selflessly volunteer my oven-testing services…

Oh man, I love it when I’m in a line behind a baby or a really little kid: playing with them is (almost) always a blast!

:raised_hand:!

My membership might not “count,” though: my personal trainer works for my gym, and it’s frankly unlikely that I’d go on my own…which is exactly why I have a trainer. I joined in July, and so far I’ve only gone one time when I didn’t have a training session (to try a Zumba class).

16-hour day, thankyouverymuch! The polls are open for 13 hours, then there’s setup and closing. I left my house at 4:45am and got home at 8:35pm.

Some good news. Hope she lets you smother her with skritches and treats.

:birthday:Happy Boofae Day!

Gotta find the bright side.

I think I could watch that for hours. My parents still have their wood stove insert, which they bought in the early 80s. It was my job to start a fire when I got home from school. I’ve never had an apartment or house with a fireplace or wood stove, so I enjoy them when we get one of them in a B&B/hotel/etc.

Not quiet enough. Hope Ursala’s dump in the living room was a one-off. And :people_hugging:.

Thank you for your service. That’s a looooooooong day.

This morning I did something strange to my shoulder so now I’m on ibuprofen after massaging it with a foam roller. It’s the same shoulder I had PT for around 6 years ago, so I might have to go back. Rather annoyed because I was supposed to go to the gym today. Makes no sense when I’m already in pain.

Now it’s time to settle down and watch some tv for unwinding. Might go find the heating pad. Darn shoulder.

FCD and his mom just headed over to her apartment so she can decide what she’ll want to bring and what she’ll get rid of. She’s decided for sure to give up the apartment and all but decided to enter hospice. Decisions made.

While her PT was here, I did some raking out back, and as soon as I post this, I’m going to start some raking out front. It’s cloudy, but mild, so no jacket needed!

Supper will be sloppy joes, peas-n-carrots, and cuke salad. I got some bakery rolls as opposed to boring hamburger buns - I hope they’re as good as they look.

And that’s pretty much my day up to now.

Thirty minutes ago Ursala Kitteh used the litter box for appropriate dumpage. Whew. Visited Ariel this afternoon. Cleaned her up and doled out carrots. My work here is done. Flank steak, sallit, and gnocchi with pesto for dinner.

I’ve had a tough couple of weeks - by first world standards I suppose. Early this year, I basically ran out of money, so I sold my car and now I’m doing okay but job-hunting and cheaper and apartment hunting - and that was going ok. I had a lot of leads and I was trying to make things happen. I was feeling positive – and truth be told I still am – but then something happened. I ran out of Lexapro and I used up all my TeleDoc renewals. So, like and idiot, I thought I’ll just come off and live life like I used to with a new perspective.

That doesn’t work for dick. I’ve spent the last two weeks dizzy as shit, pacing around my apartment, up all night or sleeping all day. I thought I was maintaining, but I was just fooling myself. This morning I was standing in line at a sandwich shop and I started thinking about my car. It was a great car. I loved that car. Getting rid of it was definitely the right thing to do, but I had to fight back a panic attack and tears as I was waiting for my sandwich.

So, long story short, I popped up to a ZoomCare this afternoon and I think I have things sorted out. They’ve got me back on the Lexapro, starting me off on a half-dose for a week, then back to my normal regimen. Hopefully I’ll get some traction out of this.

:people_hugging: I’m glad that you’re getting back on track. Good luck with job and apartment hunting.

I mailed off the birthday card, found out that they haven’t even started working on my car (the adjuster isn’t done yet) and got started on my annual family cookbook project. This year’s edition will go to my niece and one to my great niece, who have both set up housekeeping on their own post-college in the last year. I’ll have to set it aside at the end of the month if it isn’t done to work on another album (the paying gig will help pay for my deductible).

Howdy Y’all! I have been a waaaaaay slothful bear today. I did even so much as walk down to the mailbox. Matter of fact, unless you count the screened in back porch as outside, I have not even been outside da cave. I did sad puppy dawg eyes at OYKW so he’d go pick up our fried chikin plates. What? Sometimes I get to be the spoiled brat. It’s only fair. BTW, Pepsi Zero (or whatever it’s called) and rum are not bad together.

Five of the clock, and we’ve just finished dinner. I made salads (iceberg lettuce, chicken, diced tomatoes, hard-boiled egg, bacon bits, Mexican-blend shredded cheese, and dressing – blue cheese for me, and thousand island for me wife). The Missus had the last square of King’s Hawaiian Bread too.

Envious. Hell of a day for me.

Hurray for those who are recovering, and dang about the sickly pets. VBC’s breathing is getting worse but I’ve noticed that she is much quieter when she’s sleeping on the gel filled bed or our waterbed, so I’ve ordered another gel filled bed to put on the bed in my room to see if that helps.

We got rain today which was lovely. My babby mulberries are starting to leaf out and probably enjoyed getting a nice warm drink.

The scrap guy didn’t pick our stove up last night, so we shoved it out onto our front porch. If he hadn’t picked it up today, our plan was to shove it out to the side of the road tomorrow. There are other scrapers in the neighborhood, we wanted to give him the first chance at it because he works full time.

It is gone today.

I’m liking my new oven. There is a beeper for when it is at temp and it uses both heat coils to bake which will probably give a more even heat. I’m really going to have to get used to the stovetop, it heats much faster than I’m used to and if I scorch the milk, it is ruined.

Excellent advice, thank you!

Happily, our local polling place does have a break room available for the volunteers and I personally know most of them, so they feel safe eating my food. I’d probably not cook for a group of strangers, I know I’ve always looked sideways at cookies our clients would sometimes bring for us.

Yep. What a great idea, I’m sure it helped a bunch.

That didn’t sound like a quiet week, and I’m really sorry about your BIL and sister. This whole getting old thing just sucks.

How does traveling work for you? Is it hard to get motivated to go back to the gym after not going for a week or longer? Now that I’m in the habit of going to TC, I always look forward to a good stretch after being gone for a while, but TC isn’t really a workout like you do.

A certain furry orange jerk is rather committed to driving me up the wall today. He’s lived here for over a year and a half now, so he knows household rules such as “the kitchen counter is a ‘no cats’ zone”. The stubborn pain in the tail insists on hopping up on the counter right next to where I’m standing. Plop him on the floor, he’s back up in seconds.

Figures the one time he shows any attention span, it’s for doing things he knows he’s not allowed to.

I had an allergy doc appointment. Ironically, I don’t have allergies, but she’s the one who orders Epi Pens, and my current lot expires next month. I only took the bus partway back to Olympia and walked the rest: 6 miles and change. But then Ms. Dog’s person asked if I could walk her (dog, not person), so I got up to 8 miles. My knee is a little unhappy, but not as much as it was a few months ago. I still have the big, ugly bump, though.

BooFae, it’s still your birthday, Pacific Time, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :champagne: :clinking_glasses: :birthday: :gift: I hope you had a spectacular day!

Jack, that sounds like a perfectly miserable two weeks. I’m glad you got help and a plan, plus the Lexapro. I hope you get a job and a decent place to live. How’s Bob?

I think that was probably the only thing of value she had.

Well, that and your healthy definition of “parent.” There are parents who treat their kids like adult friends, confiding their dating or marital troubles, even their work problems. Then there are parents who try to act just like their teen-age-or-older kids: going clubbing, doing drugs together, etc. None of that stuff would have occurred to you because you’ve got your head on straight and are a good parent.

Spoken like the seasoned pro you are. Thanks!

Hugs to all. I think I hear a hot bath calling my name.

Black instead of orange, and side table instead of the kitchen counter. But yeah.

The kitchen? I lost that argument a long time ago. Now the counter is his favorite sittin’ spot to watch for me pulling into the driveway, so he can howl the song of his people and then flop over dramatically.

(It’s his way of saying “hello.”)

I managed to get the intro and the first layout of the family cookbook done this evening. Granny’s homemade egg noodles and Sunday pot roast for the first pair.

Howdy all, sorry, too much to keep up on since my last visit. Actually, if someone could tell me how to reply and include other people’s posts in my reply, I might get better. Now it’s 9:30 at night and I have to go figure out what we’re going to have for dinner when MusicMan gets home. I need to start cranking out meal plans in advance so that I don’t have to be cooking this late at night. I’m ready for all the crazy going on around here to STOP.

I do have things to be grateful for, though, like the beautiful poodle, currently curled up on my lap. :purple_heart:

I admit it does take a few days to get back into the habit, and I usually cut back on my workout load for a week or two as I get back into it, but I am a creature of habit and this has now been ingrained on me for upwards of 2 years now. That said, between Soccer on the TV and coaching it late in the afternoon/early evening, I missed my cycling today, but since I was out for two hours working around the soccer fields I don’t feel to bad about it.

Nettie, sounds like a 6 year old child with a mischievous streak.

So as I noted above, sloth pretty much won out after the running around this morning, and tomorrow morning I have the HVAC coming to fill the AC with freon and deplete my checking account. Still haven’t used the brand spanking new Debit card in my wallet, one of these days (should probably have used it for the new monitor, now that I think about it…). 60F outside and comfortable inside, so will stay put until bedtime.

Have 47 girls signed up for 10U girls soccer, today’s attendance was…6. But we had a pretty good workout and they got some running and exercise in (so did I). Hopefully next week will be a bit more crowded.

Wet one, sounds like a trying week. Best wishes to Sis and BIL, it does sound like they need the intervention.

Sorry to hear about the bum shoulder, Dicey; hope it fixes itself.

FCM, glad MIL is being realistic about the situation.

J-Bats, sounds like life handed you a few set-backs, but you knew how to deal with them and now it’s on the mend. Be strong and here’s a few manly {{{hugs}}}

nellie, for all I do at the gym, I can’t imagine walking 6+ miles as casually as you do.

The way I do it (like for the above) was to highlight it and I get a little menu which says QUOTE, which I click and it appears in the message I am typing. Hope that helps.

And that’s all the news for today, take care all and I’ll try to keep caught up tomorrow.

Thanks, I don’t think I was that miserable, just in a fog. The dizziness was really sapping me.

Bob’s doing great. I got him out to the park after I got back from the ZoomCare. Since I got rid of the car, I can’t drive him to this awesome park in the 'burbs, but there’s an open (unfenced, but surrounded by pedestrian walkways) park on the PSU campus that is fun.

red The family cookbook is such a wonderful thing. I have one from my pseudo-adoptive family that means the world to me. Stories about each recipe and how they came to be part of the, let’s go with lexicon, are a great thing to include in the cookbook.

If’n you don’t mind, I’m sure I wouldn’t be the only one who’d love to see the secret recipes.

If I upload them to a site that I can link, I will share.
