OK. Primer, one base coat, one colour coat, and one clear coat. This is the underside of the tailpiece, which no one will ever see. Tomorrow I’ll go over the top primer with 1500 grit, then apply two base coats, three colour coats, and two clear coats. Wish me luck.

We all know you’re not.
But the dude’s done had his chance. I mean, I’ve been out of the dating pool for three decades, and even I can tell that’s weak stuff.
In every home and with every cooking-oriented person I’ve ever known, this is Step One for The Good Fried Rice.
I fetched about 3 zillion cheese totes today (now I’m kinda curious how much they weigh) and have gotten good at standing from a dead squat with a large pizza in each hand, albeit with a very unladylike grunt, when fetching from the reach-in.
And shouldering/kneeing the reach-in door shut with the same motion.
How’d my team do; did we get any medals?
Oh, I almost forgot one more! It was from right after I started. This one’s not a happy story, though I guess it turned out okay.
Saturday is pt 2 of delivery (Tuesday is the big 'un) so before we can open or even start making food, there’s boxes of stuff everywhere, people checking off inventory sheets, walk-in doors propped open while umpteen bazillion cases of Sysco’s finest gets dates written on them (mostly - this is an ongoing problem, one that I heard has gotten health dept. notice in the past. Seriously, folks, grab a Sharpie and write today’s date on the damn box. No, I don’t know today’s date, but I saw you dicking around on your phone a minute ago, so why don’t you look it up and tell me?)
Anyway, I needed to get something from the walk-in, and paused for about three seconds to look at something I knew I’d need to finish up later.
Then I started walking forward … as two columns of heavy-ass boxes of frozen shit piled at least as high as my shoulders if not my chin, toppled directly where I would have been if not for that brief pause.
That would’ve put me in the hospital for sure if I’d been right where they fell.
I spent a couple moments gasping and staring into the void. Really truly narrowly dodged a bullet pair of columns of hard-frozen boxes, and a lot of pain. Possibly a lifetime of it - some injuries don’t heal, as many of you know yourselves.
I mean, I’m glad I’m okay, but that was one of those “what if” moments that really makes you go, “Oh, fuck!”
I very rarely eat rice. My wife’s intestinal difficulties preclude fried rice.

Is there a way to add weights to the base?
Being disappointingly mediocre?
Sucks to be him, though, cuz I’m actually a royal-class bitch.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 20c/69f with a predicted high of 26c/78f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Just think, if it gets any fucking warmer outside, there will also probably be more hornet. Fucking hornets.” Or mozzies, I am already a victim of many mozzie bites. Must taste good to them…
Moooom congrats on painless car-buying! I hope FCD is happy with his new wheels and manages many years of avoiding idiots.
shoe lucky escape there, that could have been very serious. Also, did you send GC a rolly-eyed response?
flyboy That’s an awful lot of painting! I hope you’re keeping a list because I’d probably forget what coat was due next.
lily Meant to say the other day that your garden fence painting looks great, I hope the neighbours are suitably inspired.
Had a fun day yesterday, went to the gym early and stopped to get petrol on the way home. Quick shower and tidy up, then out to the park for an afternoon/evening of music. It was good, the weather started off drizzly but brightened up and the afternoon got very hot. We found shade so I managed not to get burned but it was a bit too hot for me. We left before the last band finished, and got pizza on the way home.
I was up reasonably early today, did feline tums and bums and am contemplating what to do next. We have to be at KK’s by 4pm although one of my friends was summoned earlier this morning for some reason. Anyway, I think I’ll make dinner at lunchtime, we will then have had a decent meal before we head out as we’ve got no idea what the filming process holds, or what time we’ll be out again. Fun times!
Then what the hell are they famous for?
It used to be kinda decent, considering Merrylande isn’t exactly known for BBQ. (That’s truly the only thing I miss about FL - there were a couple of really good BBQ chains really close to where we lived.) Anyway, along with the prices shooting up, it felt like the quality went down. Or maybe it was just an off day for them. I dunno.
However it did continue my glorious run as Core Queen!! I swear, regardless of where we go, if my order involves sliced 'maters, I always ALWAYS get at least one slice that includes a big hunk of core. Yesterday both slices were very very white in the middle. It’s a curse!!!
Or that the squid is lonely.

Have you no shame, man? Wait, look who I’m asking…
Being disappointingly mediocre?
I’ll give them one more chance… one day… maybe. Another part of the problem is that so many of their offerings (according to the menu) would use up at least 2/3 of my daily calorie allotment. I am determined to shed at least 20# more, and Dave won’t be any help with that.
I hope FCD is happy with his new wheels and manages many years of avoiding idiots.
I also hope he avoids his automotive boredom. He rarely has a vehicle longer than 2 years for a variety of reasons. Makes me crazy! I think this is his 4th vehicle in 5 years if my count is correct. I’ve lost track.
OK - I just counted. We’ve owned at least 23 vehicles since we married 40 years ago, including the 2 we had when we met. Two accumulated over 100K miles, two over 200K miles - all 4 of those were my vehicles. Only one was wrecked. There’s one pickup we’ve had for 14 years, tho it’s still low mileage because it’s mostly driven locally for errands that require a truck. So you do the math…
Woke again around 3 - I was able to read the clock accurately - but I fell back to sleep for a couple more hours - HUZZAH!! I’ll be taking the trash and recycling today and I need to run to Aldi, tho I may put that off till tomorrow. No other plans so far.
Busy week ahead - on Weds, I need to pick up RoxStar from camp because Daughter and SIL have to take Tobias to Annapolis to a pediatric cardiologist. Apparently he has a heart murmur and they want it looked at by a specialist. Then on Thurs, I have to put both grands to bed because SIL is taking Daughter to a concert. On Firday, Daughter and I are taking the grands and going to visit my mom. And Saturday is the Dragon Boat race, so I’ll be taking the grands there. I’m exhausted already!!
Back to the car - Hyundai has an app that allows you to find your vehicle and do stuff to it remotely. It was a lifesaver when FCD parked at the airport and forgot to lock his car - he did it from Indiana. So yesterday while we were waiting for the new car to be ready, he accessed the app and saw where the Santa Cruz was. Then he messed around honking the horn and flashing the lights. I don’t know if the salvage yard was open yesterday…
All righty then - time to get on with it.
Happy Sunday!!
We went to Famous Dave’s for BBQ afterwards, but it was quite mediocre - very disappointing.
We got a very nasty case of food poisoning the last time we ate at Famous Dave’s. We traced it to the coleslaw, which was the only thing we both ate. The next day I called the manager to let him know he had an issue. He accused me of lying about the coleslaw to get free food and hung up on me.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. I shall clean and launder this morning, and sloth in the afternoon. Spot is watching his shows. Thus begins my last day of vacation.
I can’t even smack you with a wet trout … freshwater vs saltwater.
Have you no shame, man? Wait, look who I’m asking…
I have a halibut time stopping myself from making aquatic creature puns.
I remembered 2 more cars - one that was more or less mine for a short time, the other that we bought with the intention of giving it to Daughter eventually, but we drove it for a while. So 25 in 40 years. Holy crap!!
Showered, dressed, and about to load the trash into my car. I want to get in and out of the convenience center before there’s a line.
The Telltale HeartBattery Backup
For the last 20 min there’s been something beeping upstairs, like a battery backup with a failing battery. It took the neighbor 15min to wake up and silence it, and it just started again. Lather rinse, repeat. I may have to slowly descend into madnessput on some bagpipe music to drown out the beeping.
Morning everyone… After a brief respite from the heat, my part 'o Texas is returning to furnace mode (normal). It was nice while it lasted.
Add me to the chorus of sympathy for {{Cookie}}. I wish I knew what to say, other than I’ve been there and in some way understand (I think it’s different for everyone though).
As to news here, went to the storage lot and washed the camper. They don’t have water but I have a large tank and pump in the truck and just washed it “in situ” (<-- that’s one of them fancy 5-dollar words that means “raht whur it sets”). Also did various tasks like sealing a shower door leak, carrying stuff to the dump, and other exciting household stuff.
My sibling has some serious heart surgery next week, so I’m a bit concerned about that. But seems to be in good hands (medically). After that is over, I’m headed out to the hinterlands for my monthly trip to help/visit aging relatives. I’m reaching the point (age) where the 400 mile drive is too much for one day, and might start breaking it up a bit. MizPullin reminded me we do have a camper, and it would be easy to stop halfway and relax for one night. But I’d either have to pack up multiple times and store the camper while in their town, or offend everyone by not staying in their house. With my family, this is the same as cursing and slapping them with my gloves. Sigh… gotta do something though. (Note: there’s a motel at the halfway point but, trust me, it’s not a place I want to stay)
Oh well, on to the day. Hope everyone has a good last day 'o week!
Morning all. Up and got the dishwasher running, then went out and picked up my Sunday NY Times so I have reading matter for the next couple of days. Finished off my last tube of Braunschweiger as today was the expiration date, so will dine out in the later afternoon. Other than maybe a gym trip, nothing on the agenda for today.
Yanker, hope sib comes through with flying colors. And while I can still do the 300-400 mile trips in a day to see family, I do admit they seem longer each year and I’m more tired the next day, so might start splitting things up. And since Brother and SIL moved to a smaller house and usually have 2-3 of their kids (and their dogs) visiting, I’ve been using the hotel option the last few years.
FCM, I can sympathize a bit with FCD, I used to buy a car every 4-5 years, get one paid off and I’d go looking for another. Since I got back from overseas I have been a little more frugal, have had 3 cars in the last 20 years (Toyota Highlander, Chevy Equinox, Dodge Durango) and won’t be looking for a new one until next year at best. And hoping Toby’s medical checkup goes well.
shoe, glad you escaped disaster. I think we probably all remember things like that in our lives, I still recall at least two times in my youth (well, I was 20 for the second one) that a few seconds difference could have literally meant life or death, And as for G.C., the decision is yours, if you think the relationship is recoverable something cryptic (like 'Yes???") might open a conversation. But if it’s dead and buried, ignore it (advice from the life-long bachelor…).
Flyboy, don’t think I’d have the patience to do that level of painting. Hope it looks real good.
boo fae, sounds like my weather right now, about 74F this morning, which actually felt rather cool after the hot days. Temperature is heading to 86F, so the coolness won’t last.
I have a halibut time stopping myself from making aquatic creature puns.
So of course you know this song by heart: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l1GvDWtccI
OK, early meal has been consumed so will wait for the dishwasher to finish it’s cycle and then consider what else to do with the day. Take care all.
Daughter and SIL have to take Tobias to Annapolis to a pediatric cardiologist.
I hope that everything turns out OK.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a crock of mixed up beans on and fixing to do KP / Sunday chores. Not a whole lot shaking at CasaRoja today.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Garbage and recycling have been dispatched. I had to take the mat out of the trunk and hose it down as one of the garbage bags leaked. Dammit. It’s going to be a sunny day so it should dry pretty quickly.
I’ve also cleaned the critter fountain and next on the list is cleaning the ice maker. But it has a clean cycle, so all I have to do is put a wee bit of bleach in it, run one cycle, then run fresh water thru 2 more cycles. And while it’s cycling, I can read my latest trashy novel.
FCD took his mom to church. He usually drops her off then comes back, but she’s been really weak and confused this morning, so he’ll stay with her, much as he dislikes that church. He’s a good son.
Well, better go get a little bleach and run the clean cycle.
