I saw this movie many many years ago and I’ve been trying to remember the name of it so I can watch it again, however no matter how I search I can’t find it.
I think it was from the Elizabeth Taylor era and for years thought it was her in the movie but I’ve searched all her movies and it doesn’t appear to be one of hers.
In the movie a lady meets a married man and of course they have an affair. I seem to remember that they have a child and he sort of leads of double life. He has a family with his wife and one child with his beautiful mistress.
Towards the end, he gets sick and ends up in the hospital, of course the wife is at his side and the mistress arrives too. I think they all meet and the children meet their half sibling too. I think he dies but not sure.
I know this is crazy, but if anyone remembers a movie like this or knows how to search for it, I would be grateful.
Thanks, I’ve looked up both these suggestions and no, neither is the movie I’ve been thinking about.
The movie was not a comedy, it was a romance and I remember it to be set in an exotic location. I think maybe there was a beach or orchard or something.
Someday, I’ll see it on a rerun, hopefully, and maybe I’ll find that it wasn’t as good as I remember.
Any guess as to what part of “the Elizabeth Taylor era” we need to think about? After all, Elizabeth Taylor (I) (1932–2011) was acting in movies from 1942-2001, practically my entire lifespan. I would grant that most of her memorable work was in the 50’s and 60’s, but if you’re not sure of the decade(s) the guesswork could be much more daunting.
I’ll echo what Ronald C. Semone just said.
Actresses I might mistake for Liz from the 50’s and 60’s:
Joan Bennett
Jeanne Crain
Ruth Roman
Jean Peters
Rhonda Fleming (if it were B&W!)
Jean Simmons
Piper Laurie
Hedy Lamarr
Gina Lollobrigida
maybe another dozen, if pressed and if the role were right enough.
This is probably not what you’re looking for since the man doesn’t die at the end, but consider The Sandpiper starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton which features a single mother with a child who has an affair with a married man.
Cary Grant, Carol Lombard, Kay Francis, 1939. Cary Grant is married to a real cold bitch, he falls in love with Carol Lombard who has a young daughter. Much angst, no-I-won’t-divorce-you, etc. There’s a Christmas scene, Cary Grant gets pneumonia and is at death’s door in the hospital, things work out in the end when the horrid wife reveals herself to be in the marriage only for his (and his parents!) money. He recovers, he and Carol Lombard and her daughter live happily ever after.
