Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Home, un-caffeinated, and fed. Off to heave dream about work.
Hopefully the blue soup lady doesn’t show up.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 11c/52f with a predicted high of 15c/60f and cloudy. Weather app says “Outside, the fucking clouds are all acting like pig fuckers. What a bunch of fucking assholes”. Fair assessment, there’s a lot of cloud around, it’s been drizzling and it’s generally not that great. British summer weather at its best!
Moooom that is an awful lot of BIL drama to be dealing with, I hope the legal side works in FCD’s favour. If your BIL does get thrown out of his apartment, would he even consider staying with you given his hatred of FCD?
Oopsie I hope you recovered from the banana chip extravaganza!
JtC good news on the AZ house sale, even if you didn’t get as much as you possibly could have done. It will be worth it just to give Hubs some peace of mind with the sale done and dusted before the imminent End of Days.
Sticky Buns appendages crossed for you on the job front, and for both you and MusicMan on the health front.
metalmouse sounds like you were having quite the adventure there, and not in the best way. I hope today’s travels are far less taxing.
I was up stupidly early today to come to campus so I can spend my day doing very little in the way of actual work. I have a 2hr College professional services meeting this morning that I could probably dodge but I’ve skipped the last couple of things so I ought to at least show my face at this one. Then I have to deliver some training to newbies on one of our reporting systems so I have put some notes together for that. No fancy presentation, I couldn’t be bothered with all that faff.
With potentially three hours taken up with other stuff, and a lunch break as well, I am not going to be doing much actual work.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 77 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 91 with light rain showers later in the day. Fortunately tomorrow’s forecast calls for good cee-mint pond time weather. Once there is enough daylight I shall plop the ribs on the smoker to do their thang. Normally we procure provisions, but not much of anything is needed so we shall forego that foray. Fine by me, as I also need to make N.O.T. sallit, and mix up the baked beans which get cooked tomorrow. There shall be eight folk hangin’ at the cee-mint pond. Munchies are bein’ brought by other folk and folk will be providin’ there own adult beerverages. Thus is the plan. Oh, in other big news my permanent DL came in the mail yestiddy.
MOOOOOOM yay for the temporary reprieve. Here’s hopin’ for a solution that’s best for all, even if everyone does not think so. Feel free to vent, as needed, and as often as needed.
JtC yay for the AZ house sale! Glad the electric stuff won’t be too pricey.
Sticky_Buns hope the interview went well. Hope the knee feels better today. Poor MM! Colonoscopy prep is no fun at all.
Metal_Mouse glad you made it to Pascagoula. Amtrak was early, so of course you had to make up for that by havin’ traffic problems. Safe travels back to your abode today.
doggio old ladies with big purses demandin’ blue soup sounds like a nightmare.
Happy Hump Day Y’all!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
I wondered that myself and I have no idea. I guess it depends on how scared he is when reality hits, if he accepts that reality. That’s been the thing for years - his perception of reality.
When he was a teen, he was seeing a counselor/therapist. One time, his mother went over to consult with the therapist who was amazed that MIL wasn’t the evil monster portrayed by BIL. Much as MIL has been a major annoyance to me, she is, at heart, a very sweet, gentle person. I think BIL’s reality shifts to suit whatever his needs of the moment are. And honestly, I don’t think he’s all that violent - I feel like it’s a show to get attention. Bottom line, he’s mentally ill and in need of care and supervision on some level. We just don’t want to take on that job.
Will that be enough to repel invaders who saw the first newspaper announcement but not the correction? Your cee-mint pond gatherings sound like so much fun - why do you live so far away? (Because I just know you’d invite me!!)
JtC - yay for a quick sale!! Maybe you could have gotten more, or maybe it would have taken longer - real estate can be a crap shoot, so this is one less thing. Hope the quest for a second kitteh is quick and successful! Regarding that, we’ve always pretty much just thrown them in together and never had bloodshed. But what do I know…
MetalMouse - I envy your travels. I’ve always thought a train excursion would be fun, except for the part of schlepping luggage. That’s why I like cruising - you unpack at the beginning and pack at the end and your bags hide away in the interim. Anyway, I hope there are no unpleasant surprises awaiting you at home.
Hugs-n-stuff to everyone else - I’m too frazzled to address you all individually so I pick the easy ones, not to suggest that some of you are “easy” or anything. I’ll stop now.
Another gloriously cool morning - a mere 63° to start the day. Mid-80s today and mid-90s tomorrow, with (I hope) t-storms. And that’s not just a bad grandmother hope - the fields really do need rain.
FCD will call the attorneys about BIL, as well as the housing folks. MIL’s aide will come for her shower. I’m hoping Aldi will be accessible today, and I think Food Lion has ribs at $1.99/lb - if so, I may get a slab to be smoked.
Not sure what else will be on the agenda. I think I’ve given up making too many plans since so few are accomplished. Or maybe I’ll call them dreams instead of plans. So I guess I need to dream up supper so I know what to thaw.
Happy Wednesday!!
Mornin’ everyone.
It’s 53F, dark, and a little cloudy outside. The clouds will give way to sunshine, and our expected high temperature is 78F. The days start becoming progressively warmer from here out. Tomorrow is the mid-80s, and by Sunday, we’ll see 98F. That is too freakin’ hot for these parts.
FCM, I don’t have words. The hits keep coming. I’m glad you have a slight reprieve on the BiL situation, but I sure hope he doesn’t come live with you. I know you don’t want him on the streets, but honestly, he sounds like a danger to himself and all of you. And, given his feelings toward FCD, well, I don’t see good things. I am thinking of you and your family and hope a best solution for all is found. And I saw you posted as I was composing. I hope your assessment of him is correct, but he does need professional supervision.
JtC, I am glad the house is sold, and the electrical work won’t be as expensive as feared. Even if you didn’t get all you think you could have from the house sale, it’s just another thing ticked off and one less thing to worry about. Now, you can focus on your life in WV.
Metal Mouse that drive sounds like a slog. I hope things are much smoother today.
Sticky Buns, I hope the interview went well and all goes well with Music Man’s procedure.
We received the certs and resumes for the second MPA position. I see maybe three contenders out of the 18. Given their skill sets, I am unsure why some of these folks even applied for this job, and I know they’d be gone in less than a year. On the other hand, I came to this organization with analytical and data skills that I haven’t been able to utilize because my organization does not have a big data mart and can’t seem to join the 21st century, and yet, I’m still here. I don’t know. I must narrow my choices to the top five and go from there. I also need to talk to HR about getting an extension on the certs because I’ll be on the road the entire week of 15-19 July. I cannot interview someone while on the road and take notes. Also, Eastern Washington is FILLED with cell phone dead spots. So, just no. Maybe we’ll be able to knock out the interviews next week, but I doubt it.
Today is a day of meetings and more budget work. I’m sure the unexpected will also crop up.
We’ll be hunkered down tomorrow because it’ll be a crazy blast zone around here. I’m not looking forward to the mess left behind by idiots who don’t clean up after themselves.
Okay, it’s time to get the day started.
No doubt. Sadly, the availability of mental health care and professionals is pathetic. We’ll do what we can as far as he’ll allow.
You do not have the training or facilities to take it on, no matter how much you wanted to.
Thanks everyone for the congrats The house sold for Zillow value which isn’t always accurate. I’d been watching housing prices in the old hood for years, I’m pretty sure we could have gotten 300 out of it, but it would have taken longer and hubs would be stressing so much that I’d be driving to Ohio for weed once a week.
OTOH, we got out of there just in time. The power company is going to start cutting power during times of extreme heat due to the fire hazard. Our old place was planned with the heat in mind and is fairly well insulated. We were not happy when we lost power in the summer, but we were OK.
Many older folks out there still live in the singlewide they bought 40 years ago. Those places don’t have great insulation and often are east west facing so they get the heat pouring in their windows all day. They are not OK with no AC and people die of the heat in AZ all the time.
So, our stuff is here. Well, the full PODs are in the driveway, we are waiting for the unloaders to get here. GG will be locked in the bedroom we have been using. The gun safe is going in that room, but it can wait until after everything else is unloaded and the exterior doors are closed before that door gets opened. I don’t think GG will try to escape, I think he’ll jump up on the wardrobe out of reach to glare at us.
At least he isn’t listening to fireworks at random times, it has still been very quiet here which is very nice. May it continue!
Have as good a day as possible everyone.
Mornin’ all. About 9:30 as I start. Up, balconated, caffinated, sheveled, and fed, and now the housekeepers are busily erasing the small evidence of my week’s depradations upon my orderly home.
Yestiddy was late large Latin breakfast with ex-Roomie Mike, two naps (one outdoors in the sun, one inside in the dark), some homemade chili (it’s OK not great) for late lunch, and an experimental pizza for late dinner at a place advertising extra-thin crusts, so perhaps less glycemic simply for less volume of bread. The glycemic result was OK, not great. Not a place to make a habit of, but now and again tolerable. Shame the interior was like 68F; I ran the car heater, including the seat heater, at full blast driving the ~20 minutes home and was still chilled through.
This was more a sit-down place than take-out, but the sweet late 30s Slavic babe behind the bar / counter where I sat to eat reminded me a lot of what I imagine Shoe is like IRL. Rowwr!! Honey, ask nice and I promise you’ll never have to touch a pizza pan for the rest of your life.
Today is pure concentrated RDOS laziness then (weather permitting) minor league baseball with ex-Roomie Mike in the late afternoon / evening. Followed by fireworks if we geezers can make it to/past the 9th inning. Speaking of boom-boom, I still have yet to see or hear a single rogue explosion outside. Color me surprised.
As to y’all …
FCM: best of luck. There’s very little overlap between what society can offer BIL, what he needs, and what he’ll accept. Maybe zero. At the limit it is not up to you / FCD to bridge that gap if it’s simply wider than you can safely muster. {{Hugs}} for everyone in any case.
Swampy: Sounds like a great day planned today and tomorrow; party hearty.
JtC: Congrats on receiving the Pods. You’re in the home stretch now.
Rather the opposite. Or maybe too early to tell. Hard to say
In more detail …
As we’d both sorta known from the outset, her life is already so full she’s got just a couple days a couple times a month for me. If that. Which fills her small available BF / FWB / WhateverTheHellWeAre square completely. But is a mere drop in my desired female companionship bucket.
While we’re together, she’s an 11. She seems to think the same of me. Averaged over a month, she’s a 3 for me, while from her POV I’m pretty much everything she could ask for and almost more than she can stand. Or so she says, and I have no reason to doubt her sincerity.
In the abstract she’d prefer more time with me, but she’s not giving up her other obligations nor, viewed from a neutral POV, can I find much fault in her prioritization. Much as that sucks from my own very non-neutral POV.
Something is gonna give here soon and I don’t know how much she’s up for being one of multiple GFs. Sigh; it’s always something.
Cleaners are gone, so I’m off to the beach.
G’day Mites!!
hurrah! it will be wonderful to have your things around you. gg will have quite the time getting accustomed to the new layout.

And honestly, I don’t think he’s all that violent - I feel like it’s a show to get attention.
Maybe, but he only needs to cross that line once to cause a tragedy. I wouldn’t roll those dice.

Something is gonna give here soon and I don’t know how much she’s up for being one of multiple GFs.
Is this something you’ve talked about? One person expecting exclusivity without actually saying it out loud is a problem. You may or may not be able to get on the same page, but you have to start by being honest about what respective pages you are each currently on.
JtC yay on the house sale! I agree that having it done and off your plate is worth more than whatever dollars you might (or might not) have gotten had you priced it higher.
Mrs W needs to get vampired this morning; then she’s decided to go to Warby Parker to have her glasses adjusted. One of my pairs needs a tweak too, so I’ll go with her, then we’ll get lunch somewhere. So much for staying indoors in the heat! Today’s expected high is 115.

Agree completely.
To answer your question: We’ve touched on adjacent topics, but backed away in tacit agreement if nobody digs too hard. More in the context of an assured lack of 3rd-party STDs joining our little party than in the context of emotional involvement / consideration. She’s in the medical biz, so starting from that aspect of togetherness is unsurprising if a bit clinical-sounding to most people’s tastes.
The time for forthright dealings across the whole spectrum of relationship topics is coming.
Slightly warmer heaving today, and I finished up helping in Surepost. But now I’m off tomorrow, so I’m having a morning gin&tonic to celebrate.

doggio old ladies with big purses demandin’ blue soup sounds like a nightmare.
Especially whey they try to pay for it with a money order.

Well, that’s not nice.
Ouch. That’s even hotter than N.C.

The time for forthright dealings across the whole spectrum of relationship topics is coming.
Good luck.
Its 88 here, supposed storms later.
Friday I have an interview, we’ll see.
What I notice at my last job while I was sitting tbere; people came in, some would stand there 5 minutes and no one would notice.
When they did, there was no, Hi ( smile) Welcome. How can I help you?

Especially whey they try to pay for it with a money order.
Nah. You give them a total, and then they start fishing around for their checkbook. Then they start by asking you what today’s date is.

That would definitely explain the 1-star reviews.
Well, I’m back. Unlike Samwise Gamgee my trip was fairly easy (380 miles in about 5 1/2 hours) and the only incident was looking behind me on I-65 and see a bunch of cop cars with their lights flashing as they approached at high speed. Being no fool I moved to the right and slowed down as a brown SUV went roaring past followed closely by 6 cop cars (a 7th came along 30 seconds behind). They were out of sight in a couple of minutes and I never saw them stopped anywhere on the interstate, so they must have exited somewhere along the road. No idea who or why the chase was on, but it did provide a little drama to a fairly uneventful drive. Bags are in the house and need to be unpacked, mail has been collected and is slowly being opened, and the house (I had the thermostat at 83F while I was gone) is cooling off nicely. Suspect sloth will be the order of the day and probably tomorrow.
boofae, I’ve had those days too, where it seems nothing constructive gets done.
swampy, sounds like the preparations are well in hand for a fine celebration tomorrow.
doggio, apparently Blue Soup is a term from the movie Bridget Jone’s Diary; doesn’t sound or look appetizing in the least. And edibles for me was three Krystal double cheeseburgers, not quite up to the ladies standards…
FCM, as for baggage-schlepping, some trains have baggage cars so you can check you big stuff and just take what you need for the day or two you’re travelling. Or the bedroom car attendant can store it on the car your on. But recommed paying extra for a bedroom; a roomette might be a little too cosy…
Taters, good luck on finding the right person for the job.
JtC, glad your stuff arrived, and in pretty good time, too. Hope GG is in a forgiving mood.
Pilot, sounds like you and BB may have things to discuss in the future; but enjoy the present whenever you can!
suzie, Wow. Just wow. That doesn’t sound like the Portland I visited several summers ago.
OK, the luggage isn’t going to unpack itself and I need to check my credit-cards (ouch) and checking status, among other mundane things. So take care and I’ll get back into the swing of things here in a bit.
Interesting, maybe hopeful, development. The apartment CEO talked to BIL and got him hooked up with a counselor and some other stuff. Since he’s in the HUD bldg, there are apparently a lot of folks with various needs. I only heard MIL’s side of the conversation, but I’m going to assume that CEO told BIL he either sticks with the program and does what he’s told, or he’s out - or words to that effect. Dunno. I do know BIL told MIL he doesn’t want her coming over in the next few days. So the drama continues.
I talked with the Hospice aide about MIL’s showers, in case I need to step in for a holiday or if the aide gets sick or something. I got the rundown on what MIL does and what the aide does and things to be aware of. It was a helpful conversation.
My errands have been run and I’m in chillage mode. Still haven’t decided what supper will be. And since I’m trying to get back to my portion control, etc, I don’t want to just get pizza. I’ll figure something out in the next 3 hours I’m sure. There’s always leftover soup from yesterday and the leftover mac-n-cheese from Sunday. Dunno.
Oh, I owe y’all a few stories!
Me: “Hey, do you still have a large deluxe in the ovens somewhere?”
S.M. (being Oven Mistress for the night): “No.”
Me: { frowns confusedly at upcoming tickets } “Ummm … ?”
S.M. { checks all four ovens } { upon opening 4th oven }
“Aw, shit.”
That’s with all the back explanation. What actually occurred to anybody listening was:
“Hey, still got a large del?”
“No.”
" ? "
“Oh, SHIT!”
What tickled my heart was, newbie got to save the boss’s ass on that one.
(I’ve only been there two years. I still consider myself a noob.)
Customer at drive-thru: “Picking up an order for Smith?”
Me: { pokes buttons on POS } “Ah, yes, you had a medium deluxe, and some French fries, right?”
Her: “Yes, thanks.”
Child in passenger seat, leaning over to whisper: “Mom, how’d she KNOW?!?”
Me: “MAGIC!!!”
(Also, kid, this ain’t my 1st rodeo.)
Ticket prints out with a pizza, and then the sides:
- Cauliflower fries
- Cauliflower fries
- Cauliflower fries
- Cauliflower fries
- Mushroom fries
I said to the guys, “Am I seeing double? Cuz, that ticket looks like a damn field sobriety test,” and they all got a good laugh.
(Coulda just rung it in as 4x on one, instead of separate line items.)
Guy gets chicken strips or something, asks for five extra BBQ sauce.
Mind you, these are filled by hand into those tiny plastic cups - you know the kind from takeout - and we charge either 50 or 75 cents a piece. (I forget how much.)
Each.
I said, with a big smile to take the sting out of any perceived bitchiness, “Uhm … my man, you know they sell this s#!t by the bottle right up the street at Wal-Mart?”
(Like, for what you’re paying us, just go buy yourself a whole-ass damn bottle?)
He just smiled back and said, “Yeah, I know.”
Uh. Whelp, okay then.
