I figured it out!! I know why I had my little episode!! It was the MiB and their flashy thing!!
Obviously while I was raking, I saw something I shouldn’t have. It all makes sense now!
No, I’m fine, really. Really.

changing out vents and switch/outlet covers are a great way to “spruce up”. love the cat knocker.
sahirrnee, i enjoy watching girl with the dogs. i can watch those videos all day.
so far we have had a mild few days. it will get more hot and humid as the week goes on. as i live a block or two away from the main 4th craziness i hunker down for the holiday. i do have an invite for the fireworks. people who have units at the front of the building can watch fireworks from their windows. i will be joining that party. no need to go outside.
i do have the usual home stuff on my to do list for the 4 day weekend. i don’t know how motivated i will be.
Cooler today, so things went a bit better. Some of the FT people are back at the Center. Apparently Mebane can’t string together consecutive shifts for 'em. But I did my Aldi run, including some tzatziki flavored chips off of The Aisle Of Shame.
But does it keep that cat from lacerating you when you try to put it on?
Befitting of a House of Floozyness! As is the Cat-goyle knocker.
Only on the SS Happy Ending.
Well, that’s one way to reduce company headcount.
Sounds a tad high from what you’re describing.
A giant bug in an Edgar suit?
And I dunno what to tell you about MiL. Sometimes denial isn’t just a river in Egypt.
I wasn’t able to go to Aldi - the road was blocked off by police with flashy lights and there was a fire truck sitting there hooked up the hydrant. It wasn’t by the store - it was in the street. There’s construction across from Aldi - I’m guessing the truck had something to do with that.
So I went a mile or so down the road to WalMart - dang, have they gotten expensive! I needed cat food, so it wasn’t a wasted trip, but many of the items I wanted from Aldi were quite a bit pricier at the mart. I don’t shop there because it’s not typically convenient, and now I’ll go elsewhere for groceries, too.
The house is still open, but not for much longer, I fear. If FCD wasn’t in town, I likely wouldn’t close it up at all today, but once it gets about 78° or so, he is not a happy camper. I’ll enjoy it while I can.
And I figured out why the freezer was resistant to opening and closing - it was ever so slightly kittywampus on its track. I emptied everything into a cooler or the other freezer, cleaned the bottom of the freezer while I was at it, then found the issue and straightened it out. I need to remind everyone to shove it closed in the middle of the handle and all should be fine. Plus I now have an idea of what’s in there. That’s a win.
Off to read till FCD and his mom get back.
Is there nobody available to help explain things or answer your questions? Sitting someone in front of a computer and waiting for them to train themselves seems like a poor model.
Also, I don’t think they can legally choose not to pay you for training time, even if you don’t end up working for them. Research state laws and find out where to file a complaint if they don’t pay you, and make sure they know it.
There’s a mantra I repeat to myself whenever I’m stuck in an accident delay: “Those people are having a much worse day than I am.” Helps me to keep things in perspective.
Then don’t go. You have more than earned the right to say no to things you don’t want to do. The fam will get over it.
VanGo, add my voice to the chorus urging you to see a doctor, now.
High temps for the next five days range from 115 to 118. Today will only get up to 110, so I’ll take advantage of the cool temps and go run some errands. Mainly to Lowe’s for air filters. I bought some cheap ones from da Jungle, and Mrs W says they make noise. So off to get the ones we were using before. I’ll also pick up something for lunch and maybe a few groceries. Then I might just remain indoors until it’s time to leave for the airport on Sunday.
Except I was the one that suggested it in the first place some weeks ago. It would be kinda crappy for me to back out now.
Aaaaaaand BIL has been thrown out of his apartment - apparently he was brandishing a box cutter and this was his third strike. MIL has said “OK, he and I will get an apartment together.” Yeah, he can be trusted to give her meds on schedule. He can’t drive, she can’t drive, she can’t see. Good plan.
FCD is going to a place that he hopes can help. I fear he’s going to end up in our basement. < headdesk >
Aaaaaand while FCD was looking into some sort of resident care program, his brother was released from the hospital and went, somehow, back to the apartment complex, not knowing he was no longer allowed there. Why was he released? Who the hell knows!
So he and his mom are headed over to the apartment now and I have a sickening feeling that BIL is going to end up in our basement because we just can’t leave him on the street. It would just be until they could get him into residential care, but that may require going to the court and having him declared incompetent, unless he agrees to go.
AAAAAAARRRRRRGH!!
oh dear, i’m sorry you are dealing with this. being a holiday week is not going to make things easier. is a motel a possibility?
I’d be concerned about potential safety hazards having him around if he’s prone to waving sharp objects around, especially with a borderline disabled very elderly person in the house and children visiting as frequently as they do.

I just ate waaaaay too many banana chips. In 30 minutes I need to log off work, get changed, and head to the gym: I’m hoping things calm down by then, because at the moment I can’t imagine even getting out of my chair. I only recently started buying them again but have always loved them, and now I’m learning that I can’t have them around because I’ll overeat them (not in a fun way).
Today has been one of those “one thing after another” days, except it’s been 2-3 things at a time. Including two subcontractors – from different companies – who resigned this week and are being huge PITAs about it. There’s going to be more fallout from one of the resignations tomorrow, including dealing with our PITA admin who is going to be particularly worked up about it. The program manager (my boss) will be OOO for the rest of the week…guess who’s backfilling him? Yaaaaay.
Man, I really don’t feel good. I just want to go lie down, then play with some Legos. I don’t wanna go to the gym today.
(BUT I know I’ll be happy once I’m there!)
LOL!! Luckily, mine no longer has that gene when it comes to inorganic items. A Lego could be on the floor in front of her and it would be perfectly safe…if she even noticed it! I was actually pretty lucky with her as a puppy: she was never one to chew the furniture or eat my shoes or anything. I think the only “non food” things I ever used to see her try to eat were rocks, but that might have just been while she was teething. I do have be careful about random dead things in the back yard, though; I always have to keep an eye on her out there!
After bariatric surgery I started having to take meds/supplements three times a day, and I just couldn’t seem to get into the swing of it: I finally set up recurring alarms in Google Notes, which sends a notification to my phone. And I don’t dismiss the notification until I’ve taken the pills, because I still constantly forget whether I already took them!
Do you mean Pascagoula?
I went there – to the Naval Air Station – a couple of times for work back in the day. At least back then, there was nothing to do except gamble on the river. The tiniest McDonald’s I’ve ever seen was on that base!
Same, but what else could they do on such short notice?
Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put back where it stays until it gets dirty again. It’s a never endin’ cycle! Outside of it we were RDOS. Sup got et early and now we chillax. I keep hopin’ a big ol’ storm will come in out of the southwest. Looks nasty down that way. Plus Netflix, chill and popcorn are yet to be had!
MOOOOOOM I vote not evil. Well, OK, maybe a little evil, but understandable. I would rather do pretty much anything else than what you described that event to be. I got worn out and grumpy just thinkin’ about bein’ in all that. Just let MIL believe what she wants to believe. Seriously that’s probably the best you can do. Dang! Hope FCD can find some kind of livin’ arrangement for his brother soonest so he’s not in your basement for too long. I was worried he’d gone one too far and would get kicked out of his apartment.
Yanker life will do that. Glad it’s all over and you can return to bein’ a RDOS. Yay for visit from youngest and glad eldest is out of the path of Beryl.
Taters of course your review was nuttin’ but raves. I do not envy your office tour. I traveled a fair about durin’ my irk life and do not miss that at all.
Coppertone with that many one star reviews, I say you dodged a bullet.
MetalMouse A squirrel once went beserk in Pascagoula.
Oopsie hope the irk stuff turns out not to be really awful.
Short term reprieve with associated weirdness. They went to the apartment and BIL was there, acting like everything was fine. FCD talked to the CEO - since BIL is in a HUD subsidized apartment, they can’t just put him on the street, but he wasn’t specific about how much time they have. FCD got the impression he was wanting to say things but he couldn’t, but he did indicate that the plan to get court-ordered guardianship over his brother is the right move.
So BIL is there for now. FCD talked to our lawyer who gave him the number of a firm that deals exclusively with guardianship cases. He’ll be calling them tomorrow. He’s going to get all the information and pre-planning that he can before telling his brother what has to happen. That’s going to be interesting.
BIL called my number by mistake and hung up, so I just saw that he called. MIL used that as an excuse to call him. She also asked how he got home from the hospital, and he was surprised that she knew he’d been there. So another development there.
Anyway, I’m vented out for now - thanks for being my pressure valve. And had he been staying her any time at all, I’d already told FCD the grands would not come over. Thankfully, that’s not an issue now. And as unbalanced as he is, I don’t think BIL’s so far gone that he’d hurt his mother. However, we’ve got some breathing room for the moment.
So, how was your day?
Fortunately for me, my day’s irritations have been minor. It’s too bloody hot out there today, so of course this is when I need to install a steering wheel cover on my car, and it turns out to be quite a wrangle (not a stretchy material, very snug fit), but doable. Also, Buddy’s doing some pretty awful things to the litterbox, probably as a side effect of the antibiotic he’s taking, but I’m sure it’s not doing Allie’s mood a lot of good either.
Yay!
Appendages crossed.
Oy! I hope that FCD can find a place that isn’t your basement for him. Hugs all around.
Irked, came home, walked Nelson and et. Such excitement! Once KP is over, I’ll mess around in the studio some before bed.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Thank goodness for that. I sure do hope something good happens soon.
Hubs isn’t great about remembering to water so I got some of those glass watering balls. They work fairly well, but aren’t hail proof.
It really is. Small things like that can make a very big difference! When I first saw the ones I picked, I thought they were on the pricey side, but then I saw some for almost a hundred each
I knew you’d like it
GG has already pulled one of the floor vents out and stuck his head down the hole. I’m so glad he’s too big enough to fit in the duct work cause I just know he’d go exploring in the middle of the night.
The electrician was over today and fixed the outlets in the kitchen. Then he gave us an estimate for doing the other work we need done (outlets for a dishwasher and a switch and outlet for a garbage disposal). It was not horrible so he will be back on Friday.
Our under the sink R/O system has arrived, I will be so happy when it is installed. Even after running the water through a brita filter, the water still stinks of chlorine.
Things are coming together.
Good gosh FCM, your family world reminds me of an episode of Perils of Pauline. Every tidbit of good news is just the set-up for another bushel basket of bad. {{Hugs}} to everyone.
I have been following along reading everything. Sympathy or congrats to all as appropriate.
I’m not making any grand promises, but my goal now is to have a lot less to say here than I have been. Not that I care less or read less, just that I post less.
Today was a day of comfortable RDOSing. Tomorrow promises the same.
Cheers all!!
Holy Cow, FCM! I’m sorry that all that is going on.
The interview went ok. It’s kind of an interesting sounding job. It would be working in a partial office environment and partial repair shop. I was their first candidate to get interviewed, so we shall see.
While I was there, I got an email from the one that I had been talking with about money. They would like to interview me next week. I saw the official job description today. While a degree is not required, I think (and assume that they’re thinking) that mine would lend credence to their operation. So we shall see.
At the moment I am sitting here in pretty significant pain. I’m guessing it’s because I tried to switch shoes. But no matter what it is, it feels like someone bent my knee at a 90 degree angle in the wrong direction. And MusicMan is, shall we say, deep into preparations for his colonoscopy and endoscopy tomorrow.
We are an exciting bunch!!!
Evening all. Day went pretty much according to plan, the Amtrak got in about 50 minutes early, a taxi was right there to take me over to the airport, and it only took me 5-6 minutes of looking around the car deck to find my vehicle and get on my way. So I figured an easy 2-hour drive up the road to Pascagoula (Oopsie had it spelled right, but I can’t confirm if there is anything to do in town as my hotel is out by the I-10). And it was easy…up to the last 20 miles, when all three lanes came to a complete stop. Decided to mimic numerous other drivers and crossed the grass median to exit (fortunately I was right at an interchange). Then tried to make my way East without using google maps or Garmin, because how hard could it be? Well, instead of a 2-hour jaunt, it became a 4-hour slog in heavy traffic and many stoplights. Finally made it to the hotel, ate at Mickey D’s and filled the gas tank (had to fill manually, then overflowed it as the auto shutoff didn’t work), so all set for tomorrow.
FCM, don’t know what to tell you about BIL, you can let MIL have her delusions, but his are downright dangerous to everyone. But I understand, you don’t want him on the street either; just y’all be careful.
Oopsie, I have the same problem with potato chips, if I have them in the house I will eat them to excess, the only cure is not to have them. Good luck in dealing with the PITA.
Nettie, another good reason I will never own a cat.
JtC, good news about the AZ house sale apparently being a go. And good to hear that the WV house is closer to being a home.
Sticky Buns, it’s nice to see that you are in demand; hope the right job comes up for you soon. Best wishes that your aches abate and Music Man gets a clean bill of health.
And that’s about all I got. Hope to get up early tomorrow morning and be home about 1-2pm, depending if I stop for edibles or restrooms along the way. Will let all y’all know when I have returned to my abode.
I napped. I dreamed I was filling in for my Dad at JC Penny, and dealing with dangerous elevators and old ladies demanding blue soup.
Holy crap! And I’m with Nettie. You’ve got too many other people to worry about to deal with a violent BiL Glad you have respite on the decison.
As long as you post enough so we know BB hasn’t gone Fatal Attraction on you.
< shoe and JtC perk up >
Safe and swift travels!
