That’s an interesting list, thank you. Any day now I’ll start hearing mumbling about what minor bowl we’re going to. I’m at a loss as to which one to hope for~I’m planning to just enjoy being able to watch one more game this season.
Reading the paper this morning about the DAWG’s 8 overtimes (!) will be fun too.
Preacher’s wife dropped in to see MIL. (MIL keeps calling her Connie - we have no idea who Connie is.) She’s a nice lady, but a bit too syrupy for my taste, so I left them alone to visit and went to clean up the basement. The grandspawn didn’t leave too much of a mess, but it did need a good rollsuck for cracker and pretzel crumbs. PW has gone on her way, MIL is eating a tiny sammich, FCD is having a sammich on a bagel, and I’m having a mundane ham-n-swiss-on-white (italian) with chips on the side.
FCD is going to a Commanders (former Redskins) game tomorrow with SIL and a busload of sailors. They’ve got a box, so he won’t be freezing outdoors, and since they’re in a bus, no issues with driving and parking. So I’ll be home alone with MIL, and the nurse is supposed to stop by.
Apart from making the supper soup, I have no other chores for today. So TV and crocheting for me.
Its all electric. The pipes dripped into my and others apt’s when they turned the heat on a month ago.
I think God has forgotten me.
Sitting at store having a snack.

My weather is similar to FCM’s…in other words, cold! Currently it’s 34°F, but at least it’s above freezing: it was in the 20s when I woke up this morning/took Bailey outside for the first time. We’re in for a spell of dry weather with highs in the mid-30s to low 40s, which means it’s finally time to start using the humidifiers: small ones in the bedroom and office, and a bigger (and quieter) one in the living room. Normally they’d be running already, but November’s weather was warm/wet enough to put it off. Between this and the holiday decorations, it’s starting to feel like Winter Is Coming.
All the talk of blood/platelets reminded me that I was way overdue to schedule my next blood donation: I now have an appointment for the morning of 12/15, at a mobile drive. For the longest time I wasn’t allowed to give blood, because of living in England from '83-'85 and the Red Cross’s fear of Mad Cow: they finally lifted that restriction two years ago, and I learned that my blood type is O+ – not quite universal, but not bad!
Yesterday was a good mix of sloth and Lego and decorating. It’s a small house and I have a very different furniture arrangement this year, plus several holiday Lego sets to display, so I decided to skip some of the decor that I’ve put out every year for as long as I can remember. I’m happy with the results.
Tomorrow I’ll be going to see a production of The Nutcracker with a good friend. We were officemates from 2001-2006, and began going to shows together after we stopped being coworkers. We’re both single, childless, (now) middle-aged women with decent incomes, and we both love the theater…and having good seats. I’m not a ballet fan, but The Nutcracker is my friend’s favorite: she sees 2-3 productions every winter, and last year I decided to start going to at least one of them with her. One of these years we want to travel to California (from DC) to see Debbie Allen’s Hot Chocolate Nutcracker.
After I finish this post I’ll do the bits of work that I mentioned yesterday. I’m really hoping everything won’t take more than a couple of hours: when I’m done I’ll relocate to the living room for a late lunch and some sloth, and later today will be more Lego (yesterday I built Chewbacca’s feet/the base plate and the bottom half of one of his legs).
That would be a very different kind of Thanksgiving…
I live alone and no one ever comes over here (I’m always going to other people’s houses), but I decorate for me. If you don’t enjoy it, though, don’t do it!
I’m the opposite: I ordered cards last week, but haven’t done any shopping yet…time to get cracking on that!
Oooooo, I kind of like those!
Very nice! And I love your frames!
That’s pretty much the only way I’d ever go to an NFL game…
Been dealing with the back strain after putting that damn cat tower together. I was sure I had some muscle relaxers, but couldn’t find them. But this morning I found them! Huzzah! The wife is in hard press mode to get the xmas stuff up out of the storage room. My back is my excuse for not doing it.
Single digit day today at 9F, but still sunny, which helps. At least we’re not buried like PA and northern NY, although that wouldn’t be a real problem for us unless we lost power.
I’ve been to maybe 2 pro football games in my life - first was in the 60s when the Colts were still in Baltimore and my cousin was a cheerleader (when they wore sweaters instead of bikinis!!) Second time was in Jacksonville for an exhibition game long before there were Jaguars. I don’t recall enjoying either of the games. I don’t really like football.
We need a warm mist humidifier for MIL’s bedroom. Much as it terrorizes me, I may have to go to WalMart…
Busy morning, especially since Dispatched switched a whole bunch of pacakges from 200 to Blue, and there were over 100 packages that didn get assigned a route/shelf position till the sort was almost over. I stopped on the way home for gin.
BBBoo thank you so very much
And thanks also to those of you who are going to/thinking about donating!!!
I’ve never heard of this but I will look into it and also ask his Dr. Thank you for the suggestion. I’ve put it into my phone on my Ask The Dr note.
Man, yesterday was such a weird day, it felt like Saturday all day. When I looked up at the clock and it was 11:23, I thought ‘oh, just a few more minutes until Saturday Night Live’.
Bob B my first car was a powder blue Falcon (HS); second car was a bronze/taupe Falcon(college). My Dad, Not a mute donkey of a Ford engineer, did all the work on our cars. As time progressed and the under the hood design changed, he also ranted about how other engineers would put parts that needed to be accessed in an almost inaccessible position.
Since I was watching Shawshank, I only channel surfed a few times to ck our Mumper teams’ scores. Yeah, I saw that halftime score and was concerned for Swampie; was worried he might be having a very bad hangover this morning. Then I checked just before I went to bed and it was going to OT; was surprised but hopeful for his dawgs. Saw the headlines this morning and went ‘WHEW’. But 8 overtimes, WOW. Is that a record?
28* w/ wind chill of 12* here now at 12:20pm.
Our daughter has had season tickets to the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago for about 10 years. They have done an alternative Nutcracker in the past that used the Chicago World’s Fair as the location. I’ve seen more than a dozen Nutcrackers, I dare say probably 2 dozen, and I enjoyed the Chicago themed one; nice to see one that isn’t same old, same old, although I love same old, same old Nutcracker.
I now have maintenance in and out and a hole in my living room ceiling where wet drywall had to be cut away, and I’ll be amazed if more cutting out soggy wallboard doesn’t happen. The cats are both sulking under the bed, DH probably wants to join them, and I’m sympathetic.
I have no hurry. She has hurry. It’s her favorite time of year, and while this is early even for her, she won’t be denied. I will put my foot down about Christmas music, though. I can only take so much of that.
Actually, he just decided not to go because of his mom (she seems particularly bad today) - so SIL will take Daughter and I’ll wrangle the grandspawn. Plus I get to take them home and possibly put them to bed - the game is at 1, but bedtime is at 7, so their parentals my not be home in time. I’m thinking I’ll take them home for supper, then throw them in the bath so they’ll be clean.
And since it’s a Naval AIR Station, it would be airmen.
I’m just back from the Mart of Wal - I got a steam vaporizer for MIL’s room. She’s been mouth-breathing in her sleep and her throat gets raw. Here’s hoping that helps. Oh, and the Mart was marginally insane - slow walkers should be flogged!!!
My best friend in HS had frequent use of a blue and white Falcon (oh how I envied her!!!) She mostly drove when we went places, as I was the 3rd or 4th driver in a 1-car family, so my chances of getting the station wagon were very slim.
In her prime, MIL would have her house completely decorated by the end of Black Friday, and by bedtime on the day after Christmas, nary a trace of the holiday remained. I may dig out our little tree and set it up just for her. We’re not much into decorating since we go to Daughter’s and/or my brother’s for Christmas. Not sure what this year’s plans are.
This makes my day! Good on you. Between you (O+) and @TruePisces (O-), the two of you could help all comers who need life-saving blood components. O-is the universal donor, but O + is pretty darn close since it can go to anyone who is a + blood type. I bet they’ll be very glad to see you.
I just got a voicemail an hour ago, while I was driving, from my local blood bank pleading with me to make an appt as one of our major hospitals is at a point of crisis, so I’ll be right along with you both trying to find a time slot to go in. I wish us all . I think lots of people get busy with holidays like Thanksgiving and travel, then preparations and blood donation falls off the end of their ‘to do’ list understandably. Since I’m not traveling, I had a pajama day with Chinese leftovers for Thanksgiving and my decorating is done* I have no excuse.
*yesterday, since it was the day after day and kosher, I slapped up two wreaths on my way out to the car, one on my front door and the other on the front facing porch railing. The twinkly white lights only tree in the big front window has been on since Nov 6th-I needed more light and twinkles as I pulled up at night, especially with the time change bringing darkness at 5pm. That tree may stay lit (LEDs on a timer) til the time changes in the spring. Cheaper than Prozac and legal, unlike edibles. No inside holiday decorations, my cat is death on those-I gave up years ago.
Yesterday I bestirred myself and left the flat. I went to the local pet store, and had a late brunch. Then back to the flat.
Today I did the shopping trip and nearly got left. It was the shuttle drivers first round and the company told her target was not a stop. Argh!!! It has been a stop ever since I moved to this building.
Thankfully there were others on the shuttle this time and they made sure I got picked up. Whew. Good thing as I left my phone at home
The stores weren’t as crowded as I thought. Even Michaels. I found nisse for the boys of the family, so the Illinois crew is done.
I did notice that target had quite a few Lego sets all over the store. They also had marks and Spencer items. I got 2 very nifty tins.
I did get egg nog. Gonna get a bit wild tonight.
Oop, nearly forgot, the cran-merry from Starbucks is tartly nummy. And rather good mixed with diet dr. pepper.
Howdy Y’all! Been a day of high RDOS inactivities as predicted. Nappage, day drinkin’ and watchin’ kollege tackle ball have been or are bein’ accomplished. Kollege tackle ball be weird. Besides my DAWGS givin’ me vapors and near heart attacks last night, Michigan upset Ohio State (complete with brawl) and South Keerliner took out Clemson. Can’t wait to see what else happens.
Cat_Glove no hangover, but I am in need of double sooper sekret extra speshul confession. I am not alone in this I’m sure as there are a lot of DAWG fans in my church includin’ the Priest.
It was lunchable mozz sticks and sauce.
Moley and his feral buds, are inside their shelter.
Ollie feeds them daily.
If it ever clears up, I’m going to try and get a photo.
I’ve just finished a ham-and-Swiss sandwich, without the cheese because we don’t have any.
Wifey’s church has a booth in Blaine for the Christmas tree lighting, and she wants to go greet people or something. I think I’ll go with her and take my cameras to see if I can finish up the rolls.
Both stepsons have gone back to their assorted places and it’s just us here again. Miss Annie is once again sitting pretty upon my lap. MusicMan is fixing himself some ramen (with turkey) and my mom and I are just reclining in our chairs. The only thing slightly off is that my tongue has been cranky all day with the sides of it very sore. I HATE BMS and I wish it wasn’t tied to anxiety like so many other things in my life!
