Apparently, it is now 2023. We have (somewhat) survived a global pandemic, and are merrily looking forward to a gorgeous year full of hope, the promise of better times … ah, who am I kidding?
Most of us have or are currently still dealing with health, financial, or other personal problems … whether our own, or such close loved ones that it might as well not matter.
So break out the sparklers, the crayons, the tissues, and/or the wet wipes. Also the Rx, the kitty litter, the trash bags, and the laundry baskets.
Today’s a holiday here, so still working on the to-do list, with a side of sloth.
One of the halogen bulbs in the kitchen hood died, so we have to figure out if there’s a LED equivalent and where we can buy it. Might be easier to contact the manufacturer, but first we have to read the manual. Woe is us!
New year, same stoopit waking up at a stoopit hour. With luck, I can fall back to sleep after whining a bit more.
We’re promised a spring-like day and I plan to spend part of it digging up some unwanted growth in the front yard. I also need to suck up the cat hair accumulation on the carpet, so I have that to look forward to.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 56 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 73 and cloudy for the day. I shall venture out later this mornin’ to get a small DQ ice cream cake for OYKW’s bday. He did not request it, but he loves it, so one he shall have. I shall also make his bday sup of waffles, bacon, and scrambled aigs. Other than that we shall be in high sloth mode cause we’ve been bzzy the past couple of days. Thus it shall be in swampland today.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
SSDY (same shit, different year). With the added attraction of things heating up for the 2024 presidential election. Can’t start annoying people too far in advance, apparently.
Got a proper snowfall heading our way in the next couple of days (10" maybe), so we need to get a Costco run in this morning, probably after exercise class. Being retired means staying at home and watching all the purty flakes falling.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. There is dense fog, and Alex Catt is still in bed under the covers. I need to run to Harris Teeter today to get buns for tonight’s burgers, and to make sure the world still exists.
They keep stealing my crayons at kindergarden work.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 5c/41f with a predicted high of 5.1c/42f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “I don’t really have anything significant to tell you right now. It’s like I forgot what I was fucking going to say”. Sums up my day really, nothing much going on!
Happy birthday to OYKW!
{{{{{FairyChats}}}}} we’re all thinking of you, it’s a tough time while you’re waiting for the end
Today is my last day of professional slothage, as I am back at irk tomorrow. The train staff in various unions have called strikes for pretty much every day this week so I will be irking from home, which pleases me greatly! I don’t mind being in the campus office but the commute is tiresome, and it means getting up at stupid o’clock three times a week. Anyway, will not think about that for now, I have slothage to achieve!
Some productivity has ensued - the dishwasher is just about done its cycle. I’ve got a load of unders in the washer. Shortly, I’ll do my best to de-hair the carpets. But as it’s merely 40°, I won’t be going out to work in the yard for a while - maybe after lunch.
Good morning all and welcome to 2023. I am about 4 weeks away from the Great Antarctica Adventure and I guess I need to start preparing. Will get to Cabela’s for some clothing, the bank for some Argentina pesos, and maybe look for a camera that is cold-resistant. Also need to look for some day tours in Buenos Aires and Ushuaia before I get there. Probably 8-10 other things, but those are the major ones.
Will do shop-n-sammich and swim-n-sauna as I try to get back to the usual habits, and since it’s supposed to be near 70F again and rain is due tomorrow, the more I get done today the better.
All y’all who usually work but have the day off as an extra bonus enjoy yourselves, while all use retired folks wonder what the fuss is about…
Sticky Buns, hope you do stick [snerk] around, adding new people to the ‘regulars’ is always a happy time.
swampy, Hippo Birdie to OYKW and the birthday meal sounds great.
Is it me folks, or does that sound somewhat…sinister…
shoe, it does have a lyric ring to it, doesn’t it?
OK, need to forage for sustenance and get about the day (who am I kidding, it’s 2 hours of internettin’ next). Take care all.
It’s currently 31 degrees with an expected high of 44 and cloudy to partly cloudy skies. I will not be working in the yard.
I was a real professional sloth yesterday and didn’t do anything. I spent the afternoon watching the Twilight Zone Marathon and fell asleep when it was time for Trash TV. I woke up at 10:00 and decided to go to bed, where I tossed and turned, and when I had finally fallen asleep, the husband came to bed and woke me up. I slept fitfully and then got up at 5:00.
Since I’m off today, I shall be productive and take care of chores. Laundry and the kitchen are first, and then I’ve GOT to take down Christmas and run the roll-suck around the house.
Sending continued hugs to the FairyChat family. Deathwatch is surreal; I’ve had to do it too.
Good to see you again, Sticky Buns! I hope you do stick around!
Well, time to finish he coffee, news and then start in on the chores. I hope you all have a good day.
Trying to decide between cereal (I do have fresh milk!) or toast with melted provolone (I do have nice bread!) for First Breakfast, before I go back to sleep. It’s my first Blessed Day Off in a while, so of course I’ve been up since 8:30 a.m. or some such ungodly hour.
Currently amusing myself watching the resident Lonely Turkey who comes 'round my yard. He’s in the neighbor’s yard rt now, pecking at their nicely manicured lawn. My, um, wild meadow - with scattered corn! - beckons.
The little pea-brain keeps looking forlornly up at the fence - which he can jump without even flying, I’ve seen him do this multiple times - and then … pecking at nothing.
'Tis another warm & sunny day in Paradise. I’m going to work this noon on a 2- or 4-day junket depending on whether I can break off on late on Day 2 for a difficult-to-reschedule twice-postponed medical appointment on what would otherwise be Day 3. TPTB that decide such weighty matters are enjoying a 3-day weekend. A well-deserved one no doubt.
I always have an ace up my sleeve, but it’s irritating that I’m trying to do the right thing by maximizing their notice to react to my impending wrench in their plans and doing it through channels and all the rest of the bureaucratic hoop-jumping and yet their own self-imposed obstacles prevent this outcome and instead funnel them straight towards a crash surprise shortfall of one crewmember. Sigh! Corporate America is like that.
Otherwise chillin’ on the Dope before wife wakes up.
Does he actually wake you, or do you wake up because he comes in? yeah, I’m nosy. I almost never hear FCD come to bed.
Yeah yeah - I woke around 3. Crybaby!
Laundry is in the dryer. Cat hair has been sucked up and dumped in the trash. Dishes are drying. The problem with getting up early is that I have breakfast early, so here it is, not quite 10, and I’m starving! But I don’t like to have lunch before 11, so I shall suffer. < pose of woe and agony >
