(Old) On this day in history in the MMP

Up from naptime, having a Jungle Bird.
Me: < sets drink down >
Spot: < sniffs drink > “Citrus? This is not a Manhattan. Flog yourself for you incompetence!”

Not to be confused with Hyper Squirrel Girl, who I worked with in the one store.

Nut!!!
< tacklehug >

Indeed.

That’s stone cold awesome!

So you need a Designated Drinker? I know a guy!

{{{JtC}}}

A good source of dietary iron. After years of a glass-topped stove, the new stove is gas and I can again use my beloved cast iron frying pan.

My wrists just won’t tolerate the weight of cast iron cookware. (sigh)

Happy Thorsday!

The mornings have still been cool, but my son is too tired after irk to go to the park.

VanGo, you reminded me of this

Time flies like an arrow
Fruit flies like a banana.

It could be fruit flies, drain flies, or fungus gnats. I put a little water, red wine vinegar, sugar, and dish soap in the bottom half of a plastic bottle. Then inverted the top half of the bottle into the bottom half, so it was like a funnel.
I read that pouring stuff down the drain doesn’t help, you need to get the foaming stuff that will coat the pipes and kill off the little buggers.

I ordered a cheap pressure washer today to prepare for the box elder bugs. We can put dish soap in the dispenser, it’s supposed to kill them, and spray down the sides of the house where they collect.

I’m glad Tobias checked out well, FCM.
I feel for all of you with your MIL.

I think when our puppers get older Ooopsie, we just want to give them lots of love.
It really hurt when Ripple couldn’t make it up onto the bed near the end.

When I went to the doctor last Friday, I told her how well I was doing. No more sciatica, I was sleeping well and feeling happier. I take one tramadol at bedtime and occasionally take one gabapentin in the afternoon.
I should have kept my mouth shut. A few nights later I moved a certain way in bed and pain shot from my back down to my toes. I shifted position and the pain went away. Now the pain is back. It’s not horrible like it was before. I can live with this as long as I am careful as to how I move.

Nice to see you again Nuts!

Well, it just came up again. She says she wants to get her squamous cell carcinoma cured first, and take on another health/life choice issue. She said that she might bring up that she’s had diarrhea since May when she goes to the doctor in December, once she has the other issues resolved.

(stare) If you can do so without triggering a domestic battle, ask her if she’d let you go that long with such a condition without getting it dealt with.

I’m only now buying cast iron because now I have an oven that I don’t have to bend over. I stand to the side of our oven to open the door, then pull the rack out and everything is right in front of me. It is easier for me to move hot things between counter height surfaces than up from knee level.

Journeymen electricians are being paid 32 an hour out this way. Just saying…

This. But all that would do is cause a battle as well. She is the medical expert, she knows how her body works better than anyone else.

It’s not a hill worth dying over, he can’t win.

^ QFT! Diarrhea is serious. May to August is a long time. May to December is half a year.

Yeah. She blew me off when I said she should see a doctor about her lesion. It was only after one of her patients who had had skin cancer said she should get it checked out that she went. (She did admit that I’d told her first.)

Yeah, I need to clean the toilet tomorrow. (I’ll call it an anniversary present. )

Magic Internet Chinese food tonight (DH wanted something outside routine after his first day on a new gig). Why is my chow mein bright orange?

Still haven’t managed to stop internettin’

FCM, yeah that calorie intake doesn’t sound good. According to sites I check I need about 1,800/day just to maintain living and I’m lots larger than MIL. And cars just keep messing up, don’t they? And have an extra Pepsi or something, let it all hang out…

VanGo, could it have been some type of dragonfly? (looks lie the other folks here are more practical then me). Hope the experiment is successful.

JtC, how close are you to the Ohio border? And guess you found some baking powder for cornbread today. And cast iron skillets are also good for whacking thieves and stubborn husbands with…

{{Sari}}, been having some pains myself, nothing like yours but noticeable, they seem to be ebbing, hope yours do to.

Flyboy, ya did what you could, just keep an eye on her and maybe get a common friend to mention something, if possible, since she did listen to one of her patients before.

10pm. Definitely (maybe) signing off now…

You could have taken a field trip to South Pittsburgh, TN, just outside of Chattanooga, to the Lodge factory and company store.

I use a 10-inch cast-iron frying pan to make cornbread. I think it’s a Lodge, but it might be the cheap Chinese one. I’ll have to look next time. I slather the pan with Crisco before I pour in the batter. The cornbread just pops right out with I turn the pan over when it’s done, and the bottom and sides are nicely crisped.

I pretty much only use that pan for cornbread anymore, but I used to cook bacon and such in it. So it’s got some seasoning. (I use my 12-inch cast-iron frying ban for bacon nowadays. And occasionally back bacon, eggs, banger, and black pudding – meats first, then the over-easy eggs.)

I’m thinking the leftover spinach might make a nice omelette for breakfast in the morning. I don’t know if we have any shredded mozzarella. If not, I can use feta.

Speaking of mozzarella, I saw a picture of prosciutto, fresh mozzarella (which we have), and sliced Roma tomatoes. The tomatoes were drizzled with olive oil and the cheese and tomatoes were sprinkled with oregano. Mrs. L.A. said she can’t eat it, but it looks delicious to me! Might need to hop on the R1 again tomorrow, for at trip to Trader Joe’s for some prosciutto.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s Friday already? O_o

Now I got a gnawing and a craving.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/58f with a predicted high of 20c/69f and mostly sunny. Weather app says “Is it partly cloudy or partly fucking sunny? I don’t know, and I don’t fucking give a shit.” Well, there you have it. It’s sunny out there at the moment, almost no clouds in the sky. There’s a nice breeze, the office is relatively cool so I’m a happy camper today.

Over-Stimulated Team Manager  mine’s like a puppy on caffeine. Swampy’s definition as an ADHD squirrel is much better!

Happy anniversary to you and Mrs LA

You’re a bunch of ungrateful Colonials, and we are good at bearing a grudge

{{{{{Cookie and Mrs Cookie}}}}} I am sorry, it’s a tough time all round, it’s hard to wait for them knowing you’ll have to go and collect from the vet, and another tough day when you actually have to do it.

Yay! Good to see you! How are you enjoying life in your new place?

Nothing exciting in my day today, no meetings and no skip fires to deal with. I have run a couple of reports for student numbers and we are showing up with 100 students in one of my depts and 33 in the other. Clearing goes on for another month so we may gain some extras, plus we have some incoming overseas exchange students who may yet swap onto our programmes but numbers are not looking too bad. The dept with 33 students for next year only had a few more than that this year so it’s not unexpected. The minion who looks after it will still complain she’s overworked. Such is life.

< Laughs in Lend-Lease >

Thanks for the Spoonflower link. Every quilter needs a new place to buy fabric…

I do not now, nor have I ever, had a desire to try pot. Partly because of my years in or associated with the military, but mostly just not interested. Almost the same thing with alcohol - it puts me to sleep so unless I need help in that realm, I’m just not interested.

Not me - my family didn’t emigrate till the early 1900s - we were late to the party, so we missed the Revolution and the Civil War. Yay us!

Once again I woke around 3, but I fell back to sleep til a tad after 5. I am showered, dressed, and fed. I had a message from Amazon about a refused credit card (dammit) so I took care of that. Now I’m caffeinating and in about an hour, I’ll head to Daughter’s place.

Looks like I’ll be seeing 2 sisters, one BIL, a niece, and my grand-nephews at Mom’s - almost a party!! Mom is making shrimp salad for lunch, and mac-n-cheese for the spawn. I figure we’ll be there 4-5 hours, so a decently long visit for a 4-5 hour commute. But as I said, I haven’t seen Mom since Christmas, and at 90, I may not get many more chances.

The weather should be great for swimming - the kids will love the diving board. I’ll take a comfy chair under an umbrella and chill. Poor FCD will be left to deal with MIL - she about drove him crazy last night with her talk of gaining 20# and buying new clothes. I guess that’s as good an obsession as one can have, however unrealistic it is.

Time to get my morning reading in before I need to go.

Happy Firday!!

Not such a new place! I’ve been in Scotland almost 2 years and been living in this house almost 20 months now. I’m enjoying the Scottish summers, such as they are, but winter is a bit of a slog. It would be nice to get more than 6 hours of daylight in December…

I am appreciating the amount of nature I have here- the house may be in a not-amazing bit of a city with a not brilliant reputation, but it’s right by the park and surrounded by trees wi wee burdies an things.

Oh, I acquired another niece a few months ago as well.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 93 and N.O.S. for the day. This will be a day of high RDOS inactivity, especially after yestiddy. I foresee quality cee-mint pond time, nappage, and day drinkin’. Any need to feed will be via forage as there are various foodstuffs in da fridge that need to get et up.

Nuts :: taclkehug :: been way too long! A house is a thing one works on in pertuity. How close are you to your PHD?

JtC at least one large cast iron skillet is a must have. Hope you get things all figured out for Bella at the vet.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. The, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!
