(Old) Pet pics in the MMP

Off to Starbucks for some food from the gift card someone bought me.

Update, new rattie mansion finally delivered. The delivery guy honestly looked like he might start crying if I complained, so I didn’t. It is normally the company giving them more than it’s possible to do, not the actual drivers who are the issue.

It is indeed a mansion. It would be at least £800 a month rent in London. I maybe should have checked the dimensions with a little more care when ordering, cos it ain’t going to fit in the corner I had allocated. I think they’ll need to go in the spare bedroom instead, which is unfortunately the room where everything is currently stuffed, and is on the list of rooms still to redecorate- the carpet is loose even- so not suitable for getting them out to play. I can figure something out though, I guess.

If you put a bed in the cabin, your greyhound would probably be happy to fill it.

I think that FCD should look into getting a Schipperke. They are bred to be boat dogs and are very smart. I used to work with someone who bred them and the stories he would share about the clever things his dogs did always entertained us.

Yesterday I walked in the front door at 3:30pm, and found another doggy mess…but much smaller/more contained than on Tuesday and Monday! I only had to wash one dog bed cover (vs two dog bed covers + several waterproof pads), and there wasn’t nearly as much poop on the pup. I had to let her out back to pee before I could start any de-fecalization, and I decided to try hosing her off on the patio: that wound up being much easier than putting her in the tub. The only real downside was that the water was cold – Bailey I both prefer warm water for that task – but it worked out alright. And there was much less cleanup to do afterwards. If I miss a future accident I think I’ll do the outside hose thing again.

Anyway, today I’m working from home and can finally address the OP and share some recent doggy pictures! Here are two frequent views.

Snoozing (08/30):

Looking out the open home office window (09/07):

I’m doing mostly OK today, but I can’t ignore the fact that tomorrow morning I might not leave the animal hospital with a dog. Every now and then I think “this could be the last time I…” (take her out back at lunchtime, etc.). Sometimes a coldly logistical thought creeps in – like, I’ll be able to travel more freely and oh hey trips will be cheaper without the cost of boarding – and I feel guilty, but I think that might just be my mind’s way of continuing to accept that it’s her time. (There was some relief involved when my mom died, too, and I recognize the resulting guilt.) I likely won’t sleep well tonight, if at all. I usually end the night by lying in front of her dog bed and petting/kissing her for a few minutes while she’s falling asleep; I can see extending that exercise tonight. If I thought she’d tolerate it I’d spend all night on the floor with her, but she’s never been one for a lot of physical affection: I know it would bother her soon enough, and she’d move away from me. Plus she tends to wind up on the bath mat in front of the tub anyway, and I’m not sleeping on that floor…even for my doggy. I need to be able to walk tomorrow!

I’m so glad she made it back home safely.

I recently started re-watching Franklin & Bash, which has various guest stars as judges: in S1 E8 Tommy Chong plays the judge (straight), who chides the courtroom about using pot. It was genius casting!

My ex used to play with Bailey with his bare feet – while in the living room recliner – and then get mad about the sharp puppy teeth! I couldn’t get him to understand that doggy minds are binary about such things, and he either needed to stop using his feet as toys or accept that he was gonna get nibbled on. Just one of the reasons we didn’t work out.

Thanks for your review! When I first learned about it I made a note to myself, but then realized I wasn’t actually interested enough…and further realized that I’d watch a Martin Sheen or Emilio Estevez documentary before one on Charlie. Heh.

Which color did you get??

Ha! :joy:

Oh, they have many yummy snax. You’ll eat well.

Speaking of coffee …

… my breakfast bagel was courtesy of Timmy H, and since I was hoping for a pre-work nap, I eschewed coffee tho dang it smelled good.

So I may stop there again on my way in, since their coffee is much more affordable than the fancy coffee place right across the street from work, and a frozen mocha is a frozen mocha.

Speaking of pre-work naps …

… the bagel carbs worked their magic and I conked OUT for about two hours. Ahhhh, that felt good.

Now I’m having some Fancy Yogurt ™ and snuggling with bothering a sleepy Monkey, and contemplating getting going early so I can make some stops before work. The ratties need tending - I’m oddly extra-lazy about them on my days off, when you’d think I’d have extra time. (Key: No motivation.)

Also need to check with Sprinkles about her ride situation. (She doesn’t drive, and frankly, shouldn’t.) Off I go … eventually …

Who is a good girl, the bestest girl ever?

So there was some sort of computer outage, so we didn’t have load sheets for the package cars. Always fun when your bulk loads are a surprise. But it was managed. I did your Senior Day shopping , and picked up a bag of seed for Edgar the Overly Aggressive Squirrel.

Fins up! And good choice for a first concert.

Always beware of door to door hoes. But hope the sulking ends soon.

{{{{Oopsie}}}}

Blue. :blue_heart: Prolly be delivered while I’m at work, so I’m (planning on) doing erranding preemptively so I can burn my brief “lunch” break running home to get the entire package tucked safely inside … and see if the harness needs charging.

I’m excited to see if it fits! As I’d said, he nonchalantly accepted a harness when I first got him, but that was several years (!! where does the time go?!) ago, so we shall see later tonight how that goes.

(Heh. How many iterations of the word “go” can Shoe fit into one sentence?)

Okay. Enough procrastinatin’ … time for pants.

I just saw we’re supposed to get into the mid 80s next week, and I would like to complain to management.

Dunno about Sprinkles yet, but Car(e)less already wants a ride.

ETA: “Hey, Shoe, how’s that quit procrastinating thing going?”

The Starbucks I went to only had 2 desserts, pumpkin cheesecake muffin and racoon eye something. There wasnt much choice of food, I got the potato cheddar and chive bites. I figured they’d have the least sodium.
They made the coffee taste almost palatable.

Some quick research showed this: They require activities that keep their mind engaged and their body active. Absolutely not an option for RDOS lifestyle. We were looking at terriers, but the same thing - if they’re not kept engaged, they find their own, often destructive, engagement. Whereas greyhounds take a lap, then collapse and snooze.

We went by the marina this morning and I took a pic of efforts to get the travelift moving again:

They’re jacking it up bit by bit till they can slide a steel sheet under the wheel. FCD has volunteered to design a repair for them in exchange for labor or something, so we’ll see if anything comes of that. The concerning thing, tho, is the deck that failed was just replaced last year, so someone somewhere screwed something up.

After we left, we headed up MD4 thru Prince Frederick, then across to Chesapeake Beach. We managed to get there before the Bayside History Museum closed. (hours are 9-noon, Weds-Sun) It took us about half an hour to see it all, so a teeny place, and obviously focused on the immediate area. But it was a nice diversion.

Then we drove back south a bit and had lunch at Traders and I’m pretty sure we’ll go back. The food was good and the prices were reasonable. The only negative was that my seat faced Fox News on the TV. On the other hand, they feature Coke products, so another win! The do breakfast, and I suspect that will be our next visit there.

The sun is breaking thru and I saw blue sky as we drove home. Now I’m in chill mode. Not sure what else the afternoon holds. I suppose I’ll figure out what to defrost for supper.

Homer Simpson: “Mmm, raccoon eye sommmmmmething …. { gurgle }

I’m surprised, I recall them having a plethora of muffins and stuff … but now I realize that was my experience pre-Covid, and boy howdy, the world really changed since then.

I hope the potato/chive thingies were tasty; that sounds yummy to me but I’ll eat practically anything that has allium in it of any kind.

They were good.
I looked it up; racoon eye cake pop.

That’d be a solid “nope” outta me!

Years ago, I really wanted a rescue greyhound, and did quite a bit of research. They need a special collar (their necks are shaped weird & they can slip a regular collar) and their scrawny bodies & weird metabolism (make sure the vet knows how to do anesthesia on them) require some adjustments from a traditional mutt, but overall they do seem to be lovely, gangly things.

Sprinkles doesn’t need a ride, and my erranding is (mostly) done. Not sure about the pants I’m wearing - driving for erranding got kinda warm, and it gets toasty in that kitchen, but it’ll cool down later, so :woman_shrugging:

ETA: @SuntanLotion racoon eye cake pop.

Vanilla cake with buttercream icing? { palm out } Yes, plz.

I was reminded today why we don’t eat out much lately. We’re each working on staying within a daily calorie allotment. Lunch today used up almost half of my daily total and more than half of FCD’s - but he did get a grilled rueben and a side of slaw. So we’re very limited for supper - I’m figuring a little cheese and a lot of fruit for me. He gets a little more, but not by much.

That’s also why we’ve not gone out for breakfast - way too heavy on high-calorie dishes. And why go out just for a scrambled egg and a slice of toast?

He’s dropped 37# and is aiming for 50. I’m trying to get to my low point before I started the climb again, so I’ve got 30# more to go. All my own fault, dammit. My stoopit sweet tooth.

Other than that, a quiet, boring afternoon. At least I don’t need to worry about defrosting anything.

Meibo, according to their ads, leaves big marks on your face, and your voice will drop down an octave or more. Uh, no thanks!

My first was Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band at the Silverdome.

I didn’t get much done today. Sis came over to look at the cabinetry for the dryer. She and I agreed that we would have put the platform on four legs instead of a semi-box. We also agreed that it needs another brace in the back. BIL will stop by on his way home from irk one evening this week and install another brace before bolting it to the wall. I’ll slap a base coat of paint on the side that shows, then do some decoupage magic to give it some character.

We did go to the Art Asylum though. Then for refrescas close the shipyards and the school where she taught for 30 years. She found some more glass beads (she plays a lot with jewelry making) and I found an old school photo album to put the vintage photo originals in once sorted. I’ll likely need a couple more (I already had one), but hey, better spend $3-5 at thrift shops than $35 elsewhere.

Not to bring anyone down, today is the 24th anniversary of 9/11. A friend called today to say her 8th grade granddaughter had to interview her about 9/11. Talking about it brought it all back, and she was upset and depressed all over again. To many kids, 9/11 is just another set of facts to memorize. They know nothing about how cataclysmic it was or why so many of us get emotional talking about it. They have nothing in their lives to compare it to (thank heavens). The emotional and social impact is so important. So can we please talk to grandkids, niblings, neighbor kids when the opportunity presents itself?

OK, moving on…

Ms. Dog and I did 5 miles yesterday. At one point, she stopped and gave me the “Yeah, I’m done” look, but I told her if she wanted to go home, she was going to have to walk there. There are no slackers in this woman’s army. Her person reports Ms. Dog slept long and happily after we returned and the ghosts had left for the day.

I got a new polish remover. I think it’s slightly better than the others. I’m still trying to decide if I should go back to shiny floors. Leaving them dull means having to do ALL the floors so they’ll match. Ugh. And enough of THAT.

FCM, my now-ex and I used to have a greyhound/blue heeler mix. (Mistakes in Breeding, Exhibit A.) I do not recommend unless you have a HUGE fenced-in yard, as they require a LOT of exercise. Walking them is hard because they were born to run. We clocked ours at over 30 mph. They’re generally not good swimmers and would not work well on a boat. They can be trained, but in the meantime, yikes. Just my 2¢ that’s worth about 1¢.

Godbod, glad to see you back! Sounds like a great concert. My first was the Ides of March (“Vehicle,” “LA Goodbye.”) A charitable program I volunteered for got them do a concert. I was stationed in the lobby. I was also 14. Guys who I thought were the backup band walked in and made a lot of hubba-hubba type remarks. I rolled my eyes and scowled at them. They laughed. They were the Ides of March, who were doing this concert gratis. I was mortified.

Nut! We missed you! I didn’t know you raised rats. You and Shoe have a lot to discuss, I imagine.

Taters, I watched part of the Charlie Sheen documentary, too, mostly because I had a mad crush on Martin Sheen when I was a teen. Your review was so good, I have nothing to add but that I didn’t recognize Sean Penn at first. He looks good, but wow, he’s aged.

Coppertone, hope you feel better.

Doggio, hope your foot vs. door injury heals up quickly. Spot is relieved he can’t be blamed and so doesn’t need to call his lawyer.

JtC That dead fence thing looks really cool.

Here’s my pittie-mixed with something looking very fierce.

We went back to Maine to visit the folks this week ( it’s why I’ve been away since starting this thing). She saw the ocean for the first time. The sand was a bit scary until she felt it on her toes, then it was total zoomies for a half an hour. No off leash, that’s against the rules, so on leash zoomies…one end to the other then a jump spin run the other way. She does a weird commando crawl with her leg splayed out back like that. The water almost got her nose. Lots of folks, both with dog and not, came over and petted her.

Oh, to whoever it was who asked about the first pic, she’d had that chewy thing for 3 days.

One of my profs in grad school had rescue greyhounds, and, yeah, that’s a good description. Big dumb quick softies.

My dad does that. But then he also gets much dog caring for when they have to look after my sister’s dog.

This is the way. Unless the boards were incredibly well sealed…no on second thought even if they were very well sealed that is a begin to peel spot.

Nope, if done by a good painter. But I do like the purple. My second favorite color after green.

On third thought, what sort of paint is that? Outdoor deck paint? Then yes it should go down through the cracks. Also it’ll look better.

GodBod Nice first concert. My first one was Aerosmith, sometime around 1987, with opener The Hooters. I went to see the Hooters, yes I was a teen in the 80s.

nut Wise choice on not letting randos in the wrong van trash your yard, sorry, garden.

This is on tap for tomorrow for Peach. I was trying to figure out why I have these tiny little scratches right above my belt line…yup, that’s where her front feet reach.

{{{Oopsie}}} It’s so hard, but just remember the great times you had together. Shit, I’ve re-written that sentence 4 times, and I can’t get it right. I’m tearing up right now.

I’m now back home and very glad to be here. It went from needing the ACs in the window to almost needing heat in the 4 days I was away.

Holy moly, I think that’s my longest post ever.

Howdy Y’all! We went to Hog ‘n Bones and well, we can say we have been. It was OK but nuttin’ special. We see no reason to go again. We also did a back roads ramble and ended up in large and in charge Oglethorpe, Jawja. A very small town but it is a county seat with a picturesque courthouse. We took main roads back to da cave so we wouldn’t be late for nappage.

I registered for convention and booked a motel room for two nights. The diocese has some recommended hotels, but no thanks. I am too cheap thrifty to pay a hunnert and seventy nine dollahs a night. I booked at a Red Roof Inn for forty-five a night. It is also nearer to the convention site. Besides low rent places are more my style. There will be continental breakfast food at the convention site which suits my breakfast needs and there will be lunch and dinner the first day of convention and it will end at noon on Sattidy, so all food needs met. I can have a Mclunch on my way back home.
