(Old) Pet pics in the MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 60 (BRR!) Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 84 and mostly cloudy. We will be bears who lunch at a bbq place named Hog ‘n Bones. It’s been around for a while but we haven’t tried it out, so today’s the day. Both of us are a bit sniffly, so I doubt we will ramble. Plus if’n the bbq is good we might need nappage afterwards.

Statesboro is home to Jawja Southern University which is a fairly large skool. Thus there are decent hotels and restaurants. Convention will be held on a weekend when there is no home football game which is good. A task I need to accomplish today is registration for convention as well as makin’ a hotel reservation. Hotels tend to fill up quickly so best to get on the ball.

GodBod glad you had a good time at your first concert. My first ever concert was a Willie Nelson concert. Baked was the operative word at that concert.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification must commence. I hope the great unwashed appreciate all my efforts.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Mornin’ all - Just past 7am as I start driveling. Been up since 0430; evidently I’m fully caught up on sleeping and my 7h was plenty. Been caffinatin’ and balconatin’ ever since. In another month or so it’ll start being cool enough to need to put on more than shorts to balconate pre-dawn. So I need to git while the gittin’ is still good.

NWS sez 77/25 on the way to 91/33 with showers later. Again. As it progressed from 5am to 6am a layer of radiation fog formed at about 500 feet. Very pretty. It might descend to my altitude or even to surface level before it burns off, but it better hurry. It’s already getting thin.

Took another dose of acetaminophen at wake-up, more precautionary than needed for my gaping (not) head wound. I expect that’ll be the last.

Yesterday was a rainy afternoon but it quit before dinner time. Which kind of days really put a damper on the crowds at the outdoor oriented restaurants and walkable tourist areas. So I went over to the nice restaurant outdoor mall zone intent on a Whiskey Wednesday happy hour (but just one) & some seafood. The place was closed, and looking sorta dead inside. Some quick googling says, yes, they’re dead. As is a second Nawlin’s themed eatery in the same ara that lasted a year or so but never quite caught on. Darn. I liked both those places. So fancy tacos and a glass of bad wine had to do; margheritas are off my menu.

This time of year is always extra-dead around here even on nice days: the weather up north is still nice so nobody is coming down here where (by their standards) it’s hot, sticky & rainy. Lots of restaurants and bars are sucking wind. The Northern Horde starts arriving about Nov 1. Meanwhile, we full-timers have the place to ourselves for two months. No summer vacationers and no snowbirds. Paradise. As long as your wages aren’t mostly tips.

Today shall be RDOS; there are no planned errands at all, and I can’t beach with this thing on my head. Going to be a bit of a challenge to entertain myself.

I’ve read all, but have little comment besides yaays, boos, and trouts as appropriate.

FCM: I know you thought of this, but could FCD get his dog fix volunteering at a shelter and doing both the pleasant and unpleasant chores like @Jack_Batty does? IOW, let him practice on borrowed dogs at the shelter for a couple-three months to see whether he really wants to take on care, feeding, and cleanup of one in your home 24/7/365.

Because, after all, his only experience of the dogs in his house is that he plays with them while invisible magic takes care of them and their messes. Maybe if he provides his own magic for awhile this desire to own one will pass. If not, at least you’ll have increased assurance he really will maintain it, not just play with it while in effect daring you to neglect it as he is.

@Sticks_and_Scones: we’re still eagerly awaiting our pic of the shiny new purple ramp.

Cheers & happy Thorsday to all!

Pretty sure there won’t be a next time. I just wish we’d had a better inspector this time - he missed things he shouldn’t have - like the massive corrosion on both fuel tanks. Such is boating.

That’s why Ziva lives here. At the adoption event, she curled up in my lap and turned on the motor.

Speaking of whom, by slow and diligent effort, I’ve just about removed the gawd-awful mat that she’d grown on her right hip. I’d cut a little away, then brush her, and repeat a few days later, with just brushing in between. Last night there was just a small bit left after I removed two rather substantial lumps. She looks weird with an almost bald area back there, but I’ll continue to brush her and with luck, I can keep future mats from developing. I love long haired cats, but I think I’ve learned my lesson, not that I intend to have any more felines. At least not for another decade, if I’m still able.

How reliable are your transport schedules? I’m going to assume that since so many people need buses and trains to get to work, they would be more reliable than not, but what do I know?

I made the suggestion a few days ago. He was not receptive. I’m pretty sure for most of his childhood, there were dogs at home, and we’ve had 6 in our 42 (!!) years together, so for him, something is missing. Hence the search. Anyway, he is committed to being the primary carer because he knows full well that otherwise, it will not be a happy household. The challenge for me will be avoiding my tendency to step into that role. Old habits are hard to break.

It was raining as I finally dropped off to sleep around midnight, and it was raining around 7 when I got up this morning, but judging from the rain gauge puddle, it wasn’t a constant, all-night rain. And theoretically, the sun will be coming out in the next hour or so. But for the moment, our Chesapeake Beach adventure is on hold.

So, failing that, I have no idea what the day will hold. At a minimum, maybe we’ll go crazy and have lunch out! :scream:

Meanwhile, Happy Thursday!!

Here for my morning skim…. Mostly, though, because I have a question. Here’s a picture of the ramp that I took yesterday.

Imgur

But, totally serious question that I’d like your opinion on is whether or not it should look like this between the boards?

Imgur

Not the best picture because of the shadow, but I think you can get the basic idea.

What do you think?

Thanks and later!

Great ramp pix; thank you! Not that you did that on my request.

@Paintcharge would be the pro here, not me. But IMO, having maintained a large deck of the same construction for ~15 years …

As to the gaps between boards, it’s kinda laborious to paint into those gaps, and it tears up brushes. But it’s certainly do-able. Since no real finish quality is needed in the gaps, there’s nothing wrong with using real cheap almost disposable brushes to do that work. Painting down in there will extend the life of the ramp by a few years. If you, or your painters, are going to do it, do it soon before the treads begin to fade even a smidgen.

Separate question:
Your railings have horizontal cap boards on them. Did they paint the underside of those? If not, I’d definitely get them back to do both those things.

Up. Keeping an eye on myself. Hoping that was just a misstep on the bus. I have known 2 people whose legs gave out from strokes.
There was no pain or numb or anything.
At times I have to strain my legs to stand up from bus seats as if my butt weighs too much.
It doesnt.
Off to the Y, grocery store.
Bible study later.

Ok, I went out and took a different picture…

Imgur

Is it normal to leave it this way? MusicMan does not like it. And, pilot, as to your question, I’ll have to peek another time I’m outside, but I think that the underneaths are painted.

Lovely pix! Love the vibrant purple, very unique!

I assume the wood isn’t finished or sanded? If so then something like this seems par for the course for this. Probably not a dealbreaker, as you’d have to be really close to it to even notice.

IMO, it’s typical half-assed paint-slapping workmanship, not craftsmanship. Depending on your expectations, their promises, and how much you paid, getting that completed may be reasonable or may be an extra job at extra expense.

Generally, they’re pretty reliable for me. The usual problem with the bus network is that something just doesn’t turn up. That means waiting for the next scheduled service or going to a different stop and using a different route. At peak travel times, services into town are usually every 15 minutes on main routes so I wait for the next one. Trains, however, are a law unto themselves. Again, my station is served by several different operators and different routes so I can usually find something going where I need to be without having to wait too long.

Love the colour! I would have expected all the wood to be painted, I think it’s worth speaking to your painters about it just to be sure.

Regarding the deck boards, when we built our deck, we painted the boards completely before installing them. Then a few years later, we put another coat on top (supposedly a weatherproof coating that is no longer sold.) That may or may not have contributed to them rotting as soon as they did, because they were unable to dry completely after rain. Personally, I’d not bother with the gaps between the boards - I’d leave as much surface untreated as I could. Just MHO.

great ramp!

i would expect the whole boards to be painted. preassembly. did they brush on? or spray on?

Good morning.

The sun is rising as I type, and it’s 59°F. Cloudy skies will prevail this morning, but the afternoon is projected to be partly cloudy with a daytime high of 72°F. There is also a chance for stray thunderstorms and rain showers.

I’d see about getting the cracks covered, but that’s just me, Sticky.

Yay for first concerts, GodBod. My first popular band concert was The Who. The Clash opened for them. It was a fantastic concert, even if it was in the KingDome.

Congrats on the nomination, Swampy.

Nelson is a little cutie, Red. I enjoyed the video.

I watched the Charlie Sheen documentary on Netflix yesterday. It was interesting, I guess, but honestly, it didn’t say much that most of us didn’t already know. I’m sure that’s because of all the people who could come out of the woodwork trying to sue him. All the same, it was interesting to learn about his childhood and the friends he had back then. His upbringing was interesting, too. He did not grow up in some big mansion.

I had another restless night, and I probably got no more than two hours of sleep. Then Maisie horked on the carpet, in two different places. Whatever is ailing her tummy didn’t affect her appetite, though; she ate her breakfast as normal. She’s sticking close to me this morning. She usually heads back upstairs to sleep with my husband some more. She must still be feeling a little off.

I don’t have anything on the agenda for today. I guess I’ll take the day as it comes. Maybe we’ll do lunch out, depending on how Maisie’s tummy is doing.

Time for more coffee. Take care of yourselves, please.

Yay Muffin!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I’ll take some more stuff to the dumpster today and coordinate with Sis to get the cabinetry done. I will also assemble the over the tank shelving. Other than that, it’s RDOS.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Good morning all. Up at 6am to use the terlet, then put on the eye covering and slept until 7:45am, so should be well-rested. Have already put the garbage bin back in place and cleaned the terlets so my major house-irk is done, but still need to spend a couple hours around the kitchen, Some gym and coaching 6-7 year olds soccer will provide some activity and we’ll see what else the day brings. Weather-wise it will bring temperatures close to 90F and a 1-in-6 chance of rain, but it’s 73F now so open windows are keeping things cool enough.

Sticky Buns, no opinion on the paint, I have not the knowledge or skills to advise you on this. But the color is pretty…unique. Does stand out in a crowd.

Coppertone, take care.

God Bod, never been a concert goer, last one I saw was Billy Joel in the 1980’s, but very happy you got a good one–the Doobies was one of my favorite groups all-time.

boo fae, is emigrating to Cyprus a thing? I know the English holiday in parts of Spain and in Cyprus, but as a place to live I never thought about it. And believe me, if you compared your public transport to an area in the USA around the same population as yours you’d be astounded at how lacking it is.

Pilot, yeah, a boom-or-bust economy can be tough on annual businesses like restaurants, I wonder if the current political situation (of which i will not speak in the MMP) will cause them to hurt even more if tourism is down.

Taters, you take care of yourself first! Two hours sleep is not good for functioning well at any time.

And that’s all for this morning. Need to do a couple of things and then finish the morning internettin’. Take care all.

Afternoon.

I’m not sure what my first proper gig was- possibly Glastonbury festival, at age 17, which I attended without a ticket, through a hole in the fence.

The delivery company actually texted me this morning, giving me a delivery slot with a 3 hour window today. Got to pop out and do some shopping which was on The List- new socks, mainly, as winter is on the way and I need some that aren’t basically holes.

Got back, lunched, did laundry, and waited…

And waited…

With 1 minute to go before the end of the delivery window, a van pulled up outside and someone knocked on the door…

and it was a group of guys in a roofing company van in hard hats and hi-vis jackets inexplicably trying to get me to pay them to do some gardening.

I have a general rule of not horing anyone who knocks on the door, and even if I didn’t, that’s a biiig no to hiring passing roofers as gardeners; I like having all my plants not trashed.

So, 20 minutes past the end of the ‘delivery window’, I am still sitting in (on the sofa, not the new comfy chair, as it happens), sulking.

My friend’s brother and his wife are moving over there mainly because their stepdad lives over there and they’re thinking he might need help as he gets older. He’s 75 now and starting to get some health issues that they are concerned about.

The RAF has an airbase at Akrotiri which would bring serving military to the area, and there used to be air bases at Larnaca and Nicosia so there’s been a British presence in Cyprus for years. I would imagine that some of the people who were/are based there just decided to stay!

Treated myself to a breakfast bagel. Now I’m trying to decide if I wanna nap before work (closing tonight) or get goin’ and do some erranding.

Most likely it’ll be “neither” and I’ll loll around uselessly for a while, then scramble before work.

Oooh, Monkey’s new light-up harness is supposed to be delivered today! (Man, I hope it fits…)

My late beloved Nikki was quite the furball, and I occasionally had to shave off a mat from an odd spot, especially as she aged, so I know what you mean.

Me, too. Monkey is virtually maintenance free other than filling his “input” bowl & emptying the “other end” box. No brushing, no drifting clouds of shed fur, no hairball puke …

Okay, and an occasional mani-pedi. Dude’s got claws.

I hear ya.

Concur! :purple_heart:

@Sticks_and_Scones you know you just turned your home into a local landmark, yes? As in, “Go three blocks, then turn left after the house with the purple ramp, ya can’t miss it.”

Wow, what a lineup!

My 1st was Steve Miller Band. The opener was some swing band we’d never heard of - turns out, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy cranks out quite a show! :musical_notes:

Aw, naw. Boo on both counts.

Boo on both counts there, too.

I got to see him live, once, at an outdoor concert (ACL in Austin, TX) and his set started just as the sun was setting.

For not having a fog machine on his stage, there was quite the haze above the crowd …

Ah, and since we’re sharing pet pics & I mentioned her earlier, here is the late, lovely, Ms. Nikki, showing off her facial markings. My late Other Shoe called her “shotgun face” sometimes:

Imgur

What a pretty girl.

A foggy morning again, with a warming trend for the weekend. We’re looking forward to a visit by youngest son, his girls and his girlfriend on Saturday.

Pumpernickel bagel for breakfast, topped with salmon cream cheese, bacon and tomato. It was supposed to be topped with avocado, but said fruit had gone south. Cleaned out some science experiments from the fridge. Man, that stuff really gets away from you quickly.
