(Old) PJD strikes again in the MMP

We have the most basic one possible: No heated water, no programming or anything that requires electrical connection. We chose this (our second one) for a couple of reasons: ease of installation, distance from an electrical outlet, less to go wrong. I installed the one we had in Portland; it only requires a crescent wrench and a Philips screwdriver, but since then my knees and back have betrayed me so I had the maintenance guy do it here. The only thing you need to do is to connect the water feed to a tee fitting.

Yes, for my partner. She has MS and can hardly even walk now :frowning:
She’s been sleeping on the sofa recently. Not ideal !
On the + side, my inheritance is imminent so I can afford to do necessary
modifications to make life easier for her.

Allow me to give you a couple of gripey product reviews. The first is about alcohol-free wines. We’ve had some from Fre, Geisen, and Cupcake that were enjoyable replications of actual wines. I ordered some from Proxies that weren’t. Their Big Red was dreadful. It was nothing like wine, but more like the worst possible fruit punch you could make for someone you despise. The Proxies Blaze Slate white wasn’t as bad as the red, but it was more of a poor attempt at a grapefruit punch than a wine.

The next gripe is toward White Mountain jigsaw puzzles. The puzzles themselves are delightful, clever, and challenging. Their website, though, is infuriatingly user-unfriendly.

On a happier note, my visit to the neurologist went well. She prescribed a bunch of small-dose pills of primidone, my drug for tremors, so I can gradually reduce the dose to a lower level.

Half an inch in Jacksonville drove the city to madness and made a fortune for body shops! Here, except for a couple of slick spots early on, the roads were fine.

Daughter and SIL have headed home. They really had no idea where their money was going, so some of the numbers we showed them were, um, surprises. They’ve already started canceling subscriptions to unnecessaries and they’ll be making a few calls about some other things. We strongly suggested they grocery shop with a list and beware of junk food. They also said they’ve been trying to stop eating out, which is a big step. If they follow even half of our advice, they should get everything straightened out within months - a year at most. So we’ll see.

I made us a Stouffer’s lasagna for lunch - first time I’ve had it and it wasn’t bad. The scant leftovers went home for supper for the kids. There was also some garlic bread that was quite good. And I’m thinking our supper will be grab whatever.

I wish I could get a good pic, but my camera is insufficient - the tracks Otis has make all over the back yard are pretty amazing! I guess he’s part husky or something. He seems to really like being out there. With luck it’ll tire him out and he’ll crash early tonight.

Laundry is done and stowed. I think I’ll turn on the TV and crochet a while.

The wife’s niece is coming over today. She has apparently mis-budgeted and has not had the work hours she thought she would have and needs a bit of a cash influx. She doesn’t seem to understand that we don’t do loans. We’re not a bank, we’re family, and we don’t expect repayment for gifts. She’s been told this before. We’re well-able to afford a few thou when needed and have done it in the past. Minor gripe not worthy of the pit.

On the up side, my order from Harry and David for sweet stuff arrives today. Sea-salt caramels. . .droooool.

My suggestion to Management to purchase a sidewalk snowblower was taken to heart. I saw the maintenance staff putting it together downstairs. Wish I’d had one of those back when I had to do the dirty work.

Winston Salem was the same. As the sole guy from up north during my time there, I was the designated driver. Except for the time we got a quarter inch of ice on everything. The parking lot was slightly uphill from the exit from our building. I couldn’t get to my car, let alone drive it.

Ms Pretty Paws thought it was too cold out this morning. I agree with her. 8 F is way too cold.

BBBoo asked me to tell you that she’s drunk behind the dumpster.

OK, actually, she’s wrangling grands and can’t play with us right now. But she’s fine.

This is something that BIL has volunteered to install for me once home. I think I’ll like it.

None needed. The rehab center labs were incorrect.

PT did show up today, but, given the morning field trip, didn’t take me to the PT room. I did the exercises on the edge of the bed, but did stand up briefly.

Sis swung by with my mail and we had a good visit. She’ll likely bring Nelson for another visit this weekend.

America has only taken 250 years to catch up to the notion. Cuts down on TP use, too, though I never measured how much so don’t know what the payback time was.

I spent a Christmas vacation in Memphis once. They got an inch of snow and it was like the end of the world. All my kin bundled up in every sweater and coat they owned. ( I was wearing a light hooded sweatshirt and a jean jacket). A bunch of them destroyed their windshields by pouring boiling water on them to melt the ice. They had me drive them around because they knew I had the talent for it. We went downtown and watched the police cars smash into each other trying to get out of the parking lot.

Of course I cut Her steak. I have been acting as Her other hand ever since the surgery. Our daughter is a hair stylist and has been washing Her hair. I have donated my bathrobe and a couple of sweatshirts because Her clothing is all too small for the cast. She has Her appointment Wednesday at 1000. We will see what happens to the cast.

I got an email from the San Diego Treasurer that property taxes are due. (‘Ignore if you’re already paid,’) I knew I’d paid my sister’s taxes. Our rental house…? Hm. Can’t find a receipt email. I tried calling the tax collector this morning, but it was 07:00 and no one was there yet. I remembered to call around lunchtime, and there were 105 callers ahead of me. I pressed the option for a call-back. They did call back about ten minutes ago. Yes, I found the right property on their website (their website won’t tell you the address of the property); and yes, I did pay the taxes on it. I also confirmed what I already knew: That I’d paid the taxes on my sister’s house.

It’s 15:00, so I’ve just clocked out. Training my replacements is taking a lot of time. La Jefa wants our Tampa orifice to do their thing and then send the files back to us for loading. I cannot allow data to just sit in my inbox. The Tampa programmer has just gotten back from a two-week vacation, and the other person there might still be on vacation. You know what? I’m still the Data Operations Manager. I’m making a Management Decision to load our members’ data. But the delay means I have about 40 (or more) files waiting for me.

Howdy Y’all! We did the thing and were bears who brunch. We were also very happy to get back in da cave. It’s been a rainy, cool, icky day. Tomorrow promises more of the same. We let the garage door down as soon as we got back and have honed our RDOS hermit skillz. I took a Boston < snerk > BUTT! < snerk > and some chikin boobs outta da freezer. The poke will go in the slow cooker tomorrow and get turned into bbq for first Sunday brunch. We will also take cole slaw and an Eyetalian cream cheese cake. The chikin will become chikin ‘n dumplin’s for tomorrow night’s sup.

MOOOOOOM we all know that BBBoo does not get drunk behind the dumpster until after she’s done wranglin’ the grandkids. She does have some class.

You’ve.

It’s been raining all day. Now the Sun is out… a half an hour before sundown (16:15 today).

Waves at everyone. Lots has been happening in the Mump and I have read and actually retained, but posting just doesn’t happen sometimes.

Sticky, I’m so happy that wasn’t a stroke. How scary!

Moooom, I’m glad you were able to give your offspring some advice, here’s hoping they pay attention.

Red, please don’t push yourself too hard. If you strain something now, you will delay going home so you can do it in private.

It snowed twice in Phx during the decade I worked there. Calling it a cluster fuck would be kind.

It started snowing here last night and we had a few inches on the ground this morning. Its all melted off now but it was pretty while it lasted.

Nothing else has really happened here, all of the daily things have happened. I was seriously planning on coming back later after my last post, but I wanted to take a pic of my piece to show Mooom that I was making big progress.

But while I was moving it, the needle touched me and I got lost again.

Here’s where I am tonight. The row of wool tent stitches will be the final part of the border.

(ignore the linen napkin on the floor. I’m wearing black fleece pants and use it to keep any black fibers from transferring the thread from my legs.)

I got my Secret Santa package and GG went nutz over it. I wasn’t going to open it for a while but he kept getting up on the side table after it, so I took it to the kitchen and opened the package to find four wrapped prezzies inside.

GG jumped on the island to take one and tried to make off with it. I took it back and gave GG the GLARE (which means nothing but makes me feel like I’ve done something), then opened it for him. Inside the wrapping paper was a thick sealed plastic bag holding a catnip stuffed banana.

GG will share almost everything with Jolene, but sometimes a catnip toy just rings his bells and they ended up spatting over his banana before Jolene realized that she didn’t really want it after all and went off to walk on Hub’s keyboard.

Fallout Four dropped an expansion and now includes half of Ohio, so Hubs has been enjoying his gaming as much as I’m enjoying my borders. Life is good here

I have a set of vintage (Hoyle?) dominoes; the black wooden ones you might buy at a gas station convenience store back in the ‘70. I also have a nice ‘ivory’ set. I can’t remember the last time I played. When I did, we didn’t play to 150 points. Whoever ran out of ‘bones’ first, won. I’m guessing The Spousal Unit did the same. I recently obtained a vintage 1990s Clue game, because someone mentioned Cluedo on one of the British police shows we watch, and it was nostalgic. (Of course, I grew up with it being ‘Clue’.) The box says it’s for a minimum of three players. There’s only two of us, as I suspect the cats would not be interested.

You know that garlic-pest salmon and the veg I made the other night? That’s what I had for dinner. IDK what Wifey is having; maybe her other tamale from yesterday.

I hope she gets to cast aside the cast, as I got to last week.

It was so hard trying to eat with a fork or spoon, much less cut anything, that, if no one was looking, I just picked bites/hunks/slabs up with the fingers of my left hand. The cat never said anything but I bet she would have been willing to tear my meat asunder for me….just before she drug it under the couch and ate it herself, chortle-meowing all the while.

I really like the bargello and florentine stitches on this piece.

And… two Dilly Green Beans that one of our members gave me a few years ago in a very nice gift box*, sweet-hot mustard from same, a couple of slices of hard salami (from Chef’s Store?). and a chunk of (Trader Joe’s) Gouda.

*The member gave me another gift box after I told her I was being deep-sixed. It has the Dilly Green Beans and sweet-hot mustard, crackers, smoked cheese, Summer sausage, fudge, sour bears, a bottle of local Cabernet Sauvignon, 'Dipping Pretzels’. And… OMG, I just discovered this as I looked to see if we got another nice ceramic coaster, a little cutlery set for the cheese and sausage – a miniature cleaver, a little pierced knife, and a small triangular knife. Very nice of her to include me on her company’s gift box distribution. I will have to thank her again for the new discovery. I won’t tell her that I avoid carbs. ;).

I napped. I consumed chili and a Monte Cassino, and a pint of Smithwicks.

But does an ice storm cause a car-b-que like it does in Raleigh?

Not the worst distraction, and the work looks good.
