(Old) PJD strikes again in the MMP

We haven’t gotten that yet, I don’t think, but every time Alexa starts with “Do you want…” the immediate answer is NO!!! All I want is the power to turn lights on and off and the reminders to check my laundry or take my meds or other little mundane reminders.

I’ve turned off the pellet stove and as soon as it cools down, I’ll de-ash it before starting it up again. I’ve already run the dishwasher (should have done it last night) and once the dishes dry, I’ll put them away. And I’ve started the bean soup that I was going to make last week. Today’s a good day for bean soup.

I’ll crochet while I wait for various timers to go off.

Afternoon all. Still grey here. 14oC which is about 365F
or something.
Bought a bread making machine last week. Partner finds supermarket
bread too sweet. The only bread she likes, I have to go early before they
run out, and they only do a large loaf so it often goes moldy before we’ve
finished it.
The bread machine is superb. Makes a perfect 1lb loaf every time (3/3 !).
So easy. Put ingredients in and press start.
:bread: :check_mark:

I’d like to see your calculations, please.

Bean soup is started. It’s in the sit-in-hot-water-for-one-hour phase. Sounds like a good time to crochet. Or rollsuck. Yeah, better rollsuck while the dog is outside.

What calculations ?! I don’t need no stinking calculations !

And a good morning all. Stayed in bed until 7:30am then rose and dressed and did the '‘three P’s (got a NY TImes Sunday Paper, dropped off some Plastic bags to recycle and mailed a letter at the Post office) so came home to some cereal and internettin’ for a couple hours. Texas Roadhouse is the Dining preference this Sunday so need to get there early, they tend to be the busiest of all the ‘budget’ steakhouses. The U10 Futsal is from 2-5pm today so probably will go over to help out, there are 82 8- and 9- year olds signed up and if even half make it, they’ll need all the help they can get… Rest of the day will be given over to sloth as I’ll skip the gym work in lieu of the kids sweating the calories out of me. Foggy and 38F heading to 47F later.

shoe, thanks for the stories, sounds like you were prescient on the number of pizzas you needed. And may I recommend “Grandma got run over my a Reindeer” for your listening pleasure…

swampy, who gets in and out is all the sports radio folks are talking about; can’t wait until the NFL stuff comes on…and as for the kids, I usually deal with no more than 8-10 at a time, someone else can organize and parcel out the major groupings (they are dividing it into 2 sessions by last name so only 40+ kids per hour…)

boo fae, Yay! for Ollie.

The Horror!! Meanwhile my car is warning me about possible ice on the road…when it’s 41F outside!

FCM, sounds like Daughter and husband are taking sensible steps; let’s hope it bocomes an ingrained habit. And glad to hear you are plugged in to the problems of computers… And my phone occasionally add games I don’t want and I have to go through my apps and delete them…will be on the lookout for this Gemini thing.

pj, have thought about a bread-making machine now and then. Does it do rye?

And need to finish a couple of things and then start calculating when I need to leave for the Roadhouse. Have a good Sunday all.

Cleaning continues. Listening to Gregorian Chants.

Yes, but it has burned off. Which gives the image of frogs with tiny flamethrowers firing them skyward at the fog.

He already does meth-ed up Ultra Zoomies, he doesn’y need more fuel.

Me: < notices mostly empty cat food bowl, brushes out crumbs, washes, puts on drying rack >

I should have adopted a Furby.

One day it will be “…me to open the pod bay doors?”, and then you’ll be sorry.

Have you ever used their waitlist function? You get in line before you’re there so it helps you skip a long wait, That’s assuming it’s available where you are. We’ve used it successfully on many occasions.

Lucky for us there’s no one named Dave in the family.

I have been soooooooo domestical! Rollsuck done. Household trash gathered. Cat box cleaned and landing where cat box lives has been swept (How does she make such a mess from a covered box?? Pellet stove has been cleaned and restarted. Veggies for bean soup have all been cut up and the ham, onions, and bay leaf are in simmer mode for the next hour anna half.

Somehow I managed to scratch a scab by my left elbow - I discovered it from the trail of dried blood on my arm. So it’s cleaned up and bandaged for now. I’ll unbandage it when I’m sure it’s completely clotted. It seems to dry and heal faster in the open air.

OK, NOW I’ve earned some chillage time.

I would love to know which bread machine you bought. I had one for several years and loved it. Finally it broke/wore out, so I bought another, supposed to be more better. Ha. Took it to goodwill and sort of gave up on making bread. But I’d love to find one like my old one that is as you say put in the ingredients and press start. So, brand? I suppose since you are in the UK I won’t be able to get the same one, but maybe it will help send me in the right direction?

I got this one :-

It doesn’t have a Rye Bread setting, but a quick google suggests it should
be easy enough using the Wholewheat or Basic settings.
Here’s the manual. There’s a table in there which shows the processes and
times for each type of bread. (ie, kneading/rising stages).

I’ve only tried the Basic bread recipe so far, but I may get adventurous and
try adding some cheese next time !

Apparently there’s really no way to get this brand in the US, but at least I can see what makes it good and look for US brands that are similar. Thanks for your help.

Here’s another catchy holiday song

This used to be on my play list for work. I only once got called out and that was by another cultist from another department.

Today started out foggier than normal but it has mostly burnt off now. That’s good because I’ll be heading off to get James and head to the capital. Thank goodness it’s cooled down, its easier to add layers under my Handmaid uniform than to remove pieces and still be recognizable.

James asked if we could go to a couple of used book stores after protesting but his health isn’t great and I think that might be too much for one day.

I’ll compromise by offering to devote Tuesday to driving him where he wants to go and treating him to lunch out. I dug out my favorite version of the Call of Cthulhu to loan him so he has something to read tomorrow.

Hubs is going to be meeting someone at the police station to sell a couple of guns while I’m gone. They have a monitored parking lot that people use for kid exchange or meeting to sell things. I’m glad he’s still working on that project, I wasn’t looking forward to dealing with them when he’s gone.

The squirrels have learned that I put birdseed out and are entertaining the fuzzbutts to no end when they eat peanuts half a foot away from the door. I guess I should probably start putting peanuts out again. The shells are messy but chewing them off keeps the squirrel in sight for a while longer.

Thanks for the stories, shoe and try to stay sane this season.

I usually use a pound of 90% lean ground beef, a pound of ground pork, and a half pound of ground lamb. The pork makes up for the lack of fat in the beef.

We’re back in the deep freeze today: it’s only 5F at 11 in the AM. Forecasters are talking maybe a snow dump on Tuesday next, then back to arctic temps. I think my shopping has to happen tomorrow. I hope the Amazon driver can get here Tuesday, as my new Amazon Echo Dot is supposed to arrive that day.

All puzzles puzzed successfully, unlike yesterday’s NYT crossword and that stupid Connections game that we all love to hate.

Savory oatmeal this morning, and soup for dinner later on.

That’s impressive!! Reading your posts may just get me to the gym after Christmas…

In other news, I just finished a Good Article review for a Wikipedia article. Last year about this time, I had to give up on doing a GA review because of IRL stuff that was slowing me down. Getting this one done is a big lift!

OK, now for reals it’s chillage time. I just dumped the carrots and celery into the bean soup. FCD and I had sammiches. I’m going to let the dishes in the dishwasher air-dry some more, because I can. I canceled the tablet cover I was supposed to get last week and ordered another that should get here tomorrow. I hope. I hate my tablet being unprotected. So, anyway, chillage till I decide to attack the clean dishes. Soup will be done for supper. It smells YUMMMMM!

FCD just finished the carpentry work for the hatch. Next step is Cetol. And he needs to get the glass cut and figure out how to secure it. Not sure if he’ll take my suggestions or not for the glass. Guess we’ll see…

The rods are solid brass and very heavy. I think a smaller diameter would have been fine, but I’m not the designer. The rounded slots are to permit water to drain off the glass. They were supposed to be smaller, but a router whoopsie had to be, um, corrected.

With luck, we can install it next week after the assorted coatings are applied inside and out.

As for Trevor, I don’t think he’s quite gotten into the spirit of the season yet.

Evening all.

Have been reading, but not had the spare brainspace for posting the last few days. My friend- he of the parcels- has been taking up most of my spare brainpower again this week, as his mother died completely out the blue on Thursday in a fire. They weren’t on good terms, as she had some serious mental health issues, but still…

The guy is the emotional equivalent of a wifi repeater; when he’s in a good mood, he can cheer up a whole room, but right now… even the rats were apparently stressing out yesterday.

I used to have a bread maker- randomly, it was given me by, and I picked it up from, some friends of friends who lived in one of the houses used a main set for of filming the Young Ones. Maybe not known in the USA.

I rarely used the thing. Partly because, used on what was supposed to be the standard setting, the mixing paddle always stuck in the loaf and I’d have to dissect it to get it back out, which did not leave the bread ideal for making neat slices.

I’m impressed by all of these images.

It would be useful if I didn’t insist on being there at opening time (11am) so there is usually little or no wait to be seated. And after a filling steak dinner, I decide if I’m going to blow through my calorie count today there was no doing things by half, so I stopped at a place called The Cookie Fix and bought 4 large Chocolate Chip cookies, which now reside in my belly. Heck, one can watch their diet and try to count calories and check their weight, but sometimes you just have to say F*** it and go for the delicious.

JtC, OMG that was hilarious, in a gruesome way… And interesting that the cops allow for such activity right next door, but at least they have some record of transactions like that and are present if anything goes awry.

FCM, the hatch is looking good. Enjoy your chillage. And the Trevor shot made me grin…

Nut, sorry to hear about friend’s mother, but hope the stress levels you face will be going down soon.

And in about an hour I’m off to work with soccer players and maybe work off some of those calories. Have a good afternoon all.

Yes. That is a minor issue with mine.
Was it only the standard setting ? I’ve only used standard setting (3 times now) and the paddle has stuck in each time, despite me coating it in oil/butter.
However, it doesn’t detract from the overall awsomenitude of the bread.

I didn’t actually investigate too much. One of the other housemates claimed they could get it to not stick, but I don’t recall seeing proof. It was also too large and we didn’t have much counter space.
