The weekend is practically done in a poof - hard to believe it’s already Sunday afternoon. I need to get going on things like laundry. One of my t-shirts got a bit of hair dye on it that I’m hoping will come out with OxiClean.
kayT I have an old (from early 2000s) Cuisinart bread maker that is still going strong. It looks like this one, and Googling that model number brings up a lot of very reasonably priced used options. It makes excellent bread every time and comes with a bunch of recipes.
And Filbert and pjd don’t you take the paddle out before it starts baking? I’ve always done that and not had any issues. Well I guess I can’t say “always” because I have been lazy and left it in and had to get it out after…
Stupid question - why pay for the more expensive, leaner ground beef when you’re mixing it with pork?
Too much fat with both pork and fatty beef. Your loaf ends up swimming in it and falls apart. I could just use fatty ground beef, but I like the flavor of the pork. I suppose one could just add bread into the mix to soak up the fat.
The membrillo, I haz made it. Very easy if you can get hold of quinces. Now I’m drooling over some of the recipes in the split pea and ham thread. Maybe next week, or as a NYD meal. I usually make black eyed peas and collard greens with sliced ham, but a hearty pea soup might hit the NOSpot and substitute sufficiently for symbolic money.
More laundry is in (actually, the same laundry, but laundered two weeks from the last time). I’ll now work on the novel, then de-laundry, then keep writing holiday cards.
TIL - thank you both Chefguy and Seanette. The recipes I’ve found that called for pork never explained why the leaner beef, or brought up the pans with inserts as an option.
Thanks for the info. I had a Cuisinart bread maker after my original (brand totally forgotten) failed. It was around 2014, not the same as the one you had, and it was awful. I gave it to goodwill. Probably in around 2000 they were better. I’ll look around.
kayT I remember hearing Cuisinart quality had gone downhill for a while, and unfortunately sounds like that what you ran into. Keep us updated on your bread machine search!
I’ve seen those before, but never tried one. It makes sense. I free-form mine in a baking dish, flattening it out to about three or four inches tall. It cooks faster and - other than the bottom - get browned and glazed. More browning equals more flavor!
Speaking of breads, this is the best thing I ever bought for the purpose (I don’t use a breadmaker). Constant temperature, and it collapses into about 2-3" tall so I can stow it under the bead when not in use. It can also be used as a slow cooker.
What admission ?! I know when to pull it out, I just never thought about
doing it though !
My m/c doesn’t beep before the bake cycle, but I could take the paddle out
any time after the second knead cycle while it’s in the second rise cycle.
Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated and had a nummy first Sunday brunch. Much wonderful food. I also had a chance to introduce myself to someone who has been in church the past three weeks, but has always been gone before I could get the chance. He had gotten talked into stayin’ for brunch. The rest of this dreary and rainy day has been devoted to nappage and sloth. Haven’t wanted anything else to eat for sure!
JtC you have given me hysterical giggles! Those songs are just genius! I am sure James will be quite happy to have a day out to do whatever he wants.
MOOOOOM Trevor looks like he is plannin’ a Texas Chainsaw Massacre revenge on whoever did that to him.
Nuts how awful about your friend’s mom! I think I will do a search for The Young Ones. It looks like sump’n that would entertain me.
MetalMouse you’ve done two days of young’un herdin’. You deserve chawklit chip cookies.
BBBoo this is so true! One should never pass up the opportunity when one is handed a straight line.
red I am so happy that Nelson and you had a great visit. I know both of you just can’t wait until you are back home.
I cleaned, dusted, and vacuumed. I took out the trash and recycling. I napped. Spot briefly napped on top of me. Now I’m watching hockey while the poke loin and sweet N.O.T. bakes. And a Wisconsin Old Fashioned.
Spot was actually chirping at the squirrel eating at the bird feeder. Who I’m naming Onan, since like Dorthy Parker’s parakeet, he was spilling his seed on the ground.
And solid music choices.
From what I understand, this is pretty common. They don’t get involved with the transactions and no records are kept. It is just a safe place for parents to meet and hand kids off and people to sell toasters off facebook marketplace.
Back in AZ, they had cameras but rarely had uniforms around. Hubs says here someone watches from a window (there are cameras as well) and comes out when more than one car is in the lot. He said it looked more like they were taking a smoke break than anything, but at least someone is there if something goes south.
Two more long guns gone, the guy tried to low ball him on the handgun so he brought it home.
All of my fuzzbutts have been grinches as well!
Today my reddit feed was full of cats learning that they do not like snow. Just because I was nosy, I checked and learned that many of the videos came from your part of the world.
Poor lil guy must be so confused. His houses keep changing and Mom isn’t home. Thank goodness for your sis, it would be so much worse if he just had a petsitter.
As to here, it warmed right up today and the sky was bright. The regular capital crowd has changed since we all got arrested, a few folks got scared off but more folks showed up. James left me for the pissed off nurse again, but they haven’t been officially trespassed and its easier to stand/wheel on the sidewalk then in the steep islands some of us have been confined to.
I am a huge fan of the HP Lovecraft Historical Society and buy their Solstice albums every year. If you are interested, you can find at least a decade’s worth free on you tube, they have started to charge for the for the newer ones now.
Us cultists might be few, but we are almost all crazy which makes a huge difference. I find my people in some very unusual places
James was thrilled with the idea of having a car and driver for a day but is insisting that he buys lunch. Hubs says if that’s the case, I should tell James that we have to go dutch because “my husband doesn’t want another man paying for my meal or buying me drinks”.
That’s probably what I’ll do, I hate ordering from the right side of the menu and I know that James hasn’t got a lot of discretionary cash.
Jolene gets airplane ears and chirps and chitters. GG fluffs up random clumps of fur, starts vibrating and then will start huffing like a steam train.
While I was at church, DH got a great picture of the cats. Kasya’s toward the back of the chair (her markings are more noticeable and she has more white on her than Buddy does) Apparently, Kasya likes Buddy a good deal more than Allie did.
