(Old) Pole Dancer and Dasher and Comet and Cupid! - A MMP For The Rest Of Us

it is very, very cold today in philly. thus far i have forgotten or didn’t think about the following:

gloves/mittens
scarf
the big coat
phone
kindle

oy! i realized on the shuttle i should have worn the big coat with the first 3 items.

once i got to the office i realized i forgot the phone and kindle on the tall dresser (mum called it a highboy, but i don’t think it is technically).

once i get home i will be off for the next 3 days, then back to the office on friday.

happy festivus and christmas adam!

My first Blessed Day Off and it’s stoopit o’clock in the morning (it’s not even 10 a.m. ferchrissakes) and I. Am. Awake.

WTeverlovingF.

I’m chalking it up to being excited about all the food I bought yesterday. Last night’s pierogi and ham was delishush.
But dammit, I don’t WANNA get up! I wanna lie around in bed!

… and if that’s not the whiniest First World Problems post, I don’t know what is.

Very gray and overcast here in western Mitten State, and that loveliest of lovelies, “wintry mix” is now the Prediction of the Oracles for this afternoon.

It just means, “Look, cold/wet shit is gonna fall from the sky at some point. All details are TBD.”

Dammit. I really wanna bake those brie-puff pastry things I mentioned earlier. But I had the heat off all night & the house is just starting to warm up, so I gotta { sigh } put on pants warm PJs.

What a nuisance.

This is my version of donning appropriate attire to be among the unwashed … I AM the unwashed today!

I shall not purtify myself today.

Well, I’m sending you virtual :people_hugging: anyway.

Going to the ortho P.A. for a follow up on my sprained ankle. Then home to make cookies. White chocolate macadamia nut.

Yesterday was a long cold evening at the barn. Ariel is fine but Michelle’s horse had gas colic. She called the vet and I stayed so she didn’t have to deal with it alone. He’s fine now. Then the vet drew blood on Emily’s horse who had a trailer accident Thursday and messed up his leg. Now it’s swollen and hot despite being on heavy duty abx. Probably also has cellulitis in that leg. Poor guy.

Stopped for pizza on the way home. I’m no longer a huge fan of pizza but it was on the way. A small sausage and cheese cost me $18.50! Gleeps! Frozen Jack’s pizza from now on!

Did you feel that? The disturbance in The Force? Yes, I dusted - well one room so far, including using Webster to get the ceiling fan and the crown molding. And I vacuumed, too! And threw some crap away that was cluttering my desk. All without pearls and apron!!! :exploding_head:

FCD had a quick in-and-out at SS. The funeral home notified them so he didn’t need to go after all. And we found out there will be no deposit in January since she wasn’t alive for the entirety of December, so I won’t be looking for that.

So now, I guess I’ll attack the living room. It doesn’t have as much to dust since much of it is upholstered. But there is a fan and it will need to be vacuumed, too. Guess I should get to it, huh?

It was a rather busy Festivus heaving. They shut the belt system down at 0500, but we were still running add/cuts and missorts at quarter to 8. Not quite a grievance(Festivus or CBA), since it just meant more hours for me. I stopped at Teeter for coffee beans, and did my Aldi run. Now I’ve come in from the cold, and am ready for a nap.

I had to fight Spot in order to put my socks on. How’s that?

I blame my inner 8 year old boy. Especially since I leave him in charge.
Hope you feel better soon.

But it is your Doperversary!

They certainly don’t. Especially since it’s “fulfill”.

[eta. Because I mentioned an American/British spelling difference, I found at least one mistake on my post. I think that’s a rule.]

Hope Shadow’s thyroid levels are better - especially if it means fewer trips to the vet.

Raspberry is my favorite berry. All the cookies sound yumming.

Hope your drive goes well and hope you’re able to check in ever so often.

I almost lost mine at Aldi. Fortunately some other people were doing a better job of noticing them. And that’s after I noticed somebody left their mittens on the bus. Stay warm!

Grievances? I got plenty.

Three weeks ago, on a Monday, we had to buy new tires.
One week ago, on a Monday, my husband managed to put a hole in the fitted sheet. So we need to buy new sheets.
This morning? The oven turned on, made heat, and the backlight for the display turned on, but there were no words or numbers. Resetting the breaker did not help. The good news is that the repair person was able to come today. The bad news is that said repair person took the oven with him and probably won’t hear anything until after the holidays. As we have a steamer oven, we can still do the things planned for an oven, but now there’s a big hole in the wall.

So hubby’s vacuumed out the hole (after making sure the breaker’s turned off).

That was yesterday. And in the evening it turned white, and IT’S STILL THERE. White stuff was supposed to be only at 700 m (2300 ft) and above. We’re below 600 m (1970 ft), so we shouldn’t have any of that white stuff. And I would have preferred it comes tomorrow, after today’s shopping.

Blergh.

@Misnomer Wil Wheaton posted a picture of his Lego Retro Record Player and I thought of you. This is so cool.

When we cleaned out ½ of the bookshelves, I retrieved 2 Lego kits and put them on the espresso table. We might actually get around to doing them.

Guess it’s sunset, all the Christmas lights just turned on.

Festivus holiday began with Seinfeld writer embarrassed by father’s airing of grievances

interesting article about how festivus came to seinfeld.

Two rooms done, lunch has been ingested. The dining room is next. Not sure if I want to dust the bedroom today. Decisions, decisions…

Dusting is done - no I didn’t do our bedroom, but I did rollsuck everything. I’ll scrub the bathrooms tomorrow and maybe dust. Maybe not. We’ll see how the stars align.

Supper will be bean-n-ham soup. Tomorrow, I’ll do the eggs for deviling. In fact, maybe I’ll boil them today and dye the whites tomorrow and mix up the filling.

But for now, chillage is in order.

I’ve been out of touch with, well, everyone and everything! I suspect I’ve been prompting grievances in others more than collecting them myself, but certainly having COVID in the middle of a huge life event aggrieved me.

The MMP moves fast, and I was mostly offline for the past two or three weeks, but FCM and the whole FCFamily, my condolences for your loss. It’s a complicated feeling after such a long decline, but you really stepped up and did all the difficult things to care for her. She sounds like she was a wonderful woman.

I’m home from MI now, having spent half my time there alone in a hotel room (luckily, an extended stay one with a small kitchen). Instead of seeing my daughter and grandson in the hospital the day of his birth or being there to help the new parents adjust, I ran errands in an N95 mask and left supplies on their porch. Luckily, I never felt too sick to get around.

The baby is, of course, the best specimen ever born! He looks a lot like his mom did as a baby, and by the time I left, he’d lost that kind of yellow tone newborns often have and was almost back to his birth weight. My SIL and daughter are both doing a tremendous job of parenting, and he tells me that, although it wasn’t in the plan, not having anyone in the house to help meant that they learned how to operate as a family much more quickly.

The new parents aren’t ready for their baby to get internet-famous, so I can’t post any pictures yet, but as soon as they give me the okay, I’ll share them! He is, of course, objectively the best baby in the world.

Mr. L tested positive at home the same day I did in MI, and then Younger Daughter came down with it three days later. Since both of them are at high risk for complications, I was worried, but they assured me it wasn’t bad. They canceled their plans to come up and join me, and when I got home, I realized they had a worse time than they’d let on. Luckily, we have some close family friends who looked after them, stopping by to feed cats and sift litter and to take out the trash. The house is still filled with the sound of lingering coughs, but everyone’s on the mend now, with no hospital visits. On the plus side, because they put off their trip until mid-January or early February, depending on Mr. L’s health, I’ll get to sneak in a bonus visit with them!

In the You Learn Something Everyday category, here’s what @What_Exit said:
Try the mmp tag next time, it should make it easier to find the most recent MMPs.

I never knew that there were tags or how to use them or how to find them. Thanks @What_Exit , I learned something new that will be useful. :slightly_smiling_face:

Ended up spending a little over an hour at the office. While there, Hubs texted from bed asking me to make a hard boiled egg. I texted back that I was at the office. When I got home, he still was upstairs so made a hard boiled egg for him. Then I made the Neisenpfeffer cookie dough and put it to chill. Washed some dishes, folded up some laundry and had lunch. Need to get back on the treadmill, not literally. One other thing that I didn’t mention that needs to be done today is to make the cranberry jello salad.

Doorbell just rang before I could post the above. It was the mail lady who said she thought she had given us the wrong mail. So I picked it up off the floor and yeppers, it was for the next door neighbors. She said she’d be back as she has a package for me. I’m sort of excited and sort of not as it may be something I ordered as presents or it may be from my Secret Santa. Hurry up and finish the block Mail Lady; I’m bristling with anticipation.

Dreary and overcast Monday - hopefully not setting the tone for how this week is going to go! I’m the only one on my team that’s working between now and New Years. And good thing I’m logged in like the good little wage drone I am - my boss just got on Teams to ask me to do a few tasks this afternoon. For those that haven’t used it, Teams tattles very helpfully broadcasts your active status to everyone and you can hover over a person’s name and see how long they’ve been inactive.

And Coppertone I hope you feel better soon as well.

InternetLegend Congrats on the new grandbaby! And while things definitely didn’t go as planned, and it sounds like it went just about as well as it could have considering what was going on.

Well, turned out it was neither. It was a package from Hubs’ HS/College buddy.

As far as the things I ordered, I may have been scammed. I replied to 2 offers on Instagram. Oh well, you live and learn. Normally I’m pretty suspicious, gosh darn it.

I’ve decided to use the Peanut Butter Kisses recipe to make gluten free cookies for BF by substituting almond butter for the peanut butter and almond flour for the whole wheat flour.

Also, FCM has given me the idea to make some deviled eggs to take to Daughter’s on Christmas Day for appetizers. Although I’m not talented enough to do dyeing of the whites.

Back to the grind.

It’s beyond easy. You mix water and food coloring in a bowl or mug, then drop in the egg whites. Let them sit till they’re the color you want, then take them out to dry on a paper towel. That’s all there is to it.

When I was putting various and sundry things in the dresser in the guest room, I noticed it was like a meat locker in there! I turned off the heat vent and we’ve kept the door closed. The room definitely isn’t being heated! We’ll deal with that should we have overnight guests.

I’ve been reading in my recliner. There was something I felt compelled to post, but for the life of me, I don’t remember what it was. I can’t brain today… So, back to my book!

My biggest grievance is, of course, FedYecchs, rapidly shaping up to be among the greatest banes of my existence.

Friday and Saturday, my package got to ride around on a truck all day, but never managed to get to my door. Today, it’s not even out for delivery. Tried to call, the IVR absolutely refused to allow access to humans. Had to put on pants and shoes (and of course, bra and shirt) and go to a nearby FedEx office. Nice counter lady there got me through to what purported to be a human. Based on apparent lack of actual listening and repeated spewing of canned pseudo-apologies absolutely word-for-word each repeat, I would be greatly surprised to find out that was a human and not a bot. My package is on its way to a location that in theory will let me pick it up (since they don’t seem inclined to provide the delivery service people actually pay for or anything), but I won’t even know which one today. Supposedly, I’ll get email about this once they know where they’re sending it.

I need ample quantities of chocolate and kitty cuddles. The rest of my day is TBD.

Yuck.

My feat of strength is wrestling with the co-head of household (which is me) by the proxy of hauling travel laundry around while still having COVID.

Bean soup is simmering and the veggies to be added are chopped and waiting. I already boiled and peeled the eggs and I’ll color them tomorrow.

Breakfast at Daughter’s at 9 tomorrow. After we get home, I’ll finish the eggs and maybe bake some ginger snaps. And maybe even clean the bathrooms!

For now, I think I’ll read.

We just got back from our nephew’s house. His sister/our niece has dropped by for a few days from W. Lafayette, and they’re babysitting their grandson Robin, who is 3 yrs. old. Robin gave us bags of “reindeer chow,” sort of a chunky granola with lots of red & white sprinkles “to make the reindeer go faster.”

It’s 36F, here in Elkhart, and lightly raining. It’s going to be hemming and hawing among rain, snow, and freezing rain for the next few days. I’m glad we weren’t driving and walking during the freezing rain part.

DAGNABIT I THINK I’M (also) SICK. I felt fine most of yesterday, but when I went to bed I noticed that my throat was a little sore. I blamed it on the heat (dry air) and humidifier (maybe-not-the-cleanest-water), both of which had needed to be turned up. But this morning my throat was “no fooling” sore, plus I have just a bit of a dry cough. When my temperature was 1° higher than usual, I took a home COVID test. My “normal” hovers around 97°F, and any kind of raised temp (let alone an actual fever) is extremely rare – even when I am sick. Happily it was negative, but I’ll take another test tomorrow. I don’t think I’ve been sick in 5 years…I wouldn’t be surprised if I caught something at Friday night’s party. That’s what I get for making myself be social!

I’m always super annoyed whenever I have to cancel plans due to something like this, but I’m especially grumpy today because now I won’t be seeing my BFFs this week: even if I just have a cold, Wife BFF is immunocompromised and doesn’t need to be exposed to anything. :frowning: It’ll take at least a week + multiple negative COVID tests before I can be in their house again; our gift exchange will have to wait until at least New Year’s Day. I was really looking forward to seeing them tomorrow evening, and giving them their presents.

I’m supposed to meet my dad and brother at a local Italian restaurant for a 2pm dinner on Christmas Day: if I don’t feel any better tomorrow, I’ll email them and recommend that they develop a Plan B just in case I can’t make it. They live in Baltimore, and there’d be no point in driving down here if I can’t join them.

Whining aside, here’s hoping that it really is just a cold… :crossed_fingers:

Happy Doperversary, Baker! :tada:

Thank you for asking! I finished the White House yesterday, and added it to my photo album of completed builds. If you click the button to sort A-Z, they’ll show up in completion order – after a picture of “Lego Corner,” where most of my sets are displayed. The White House won’t be going there, though: it will live on my kitchen table until I undecorate on Thursday, then it will move to the top of the storage units next to the TV. Next up will be the US Capitol Building (which will go next to the White House), then the Licoln Memorial (which will go above them, on an acrylic stand).

That “o” sound always gives people away…and can be hard for actors to fake!

I’m a relatively new Lego fan – I built my first set less than two years ago – so I’m not at the point of planning Lego-based trips. Yet. There are 3 Legolands in the U.S.: the closest one to me is in Goshen, NY, which is 300 miles from home but only 25 miles north of my cousin’s place…hmmmmm…

Welcome back! Those pictures are great!

Ha! Nope. My little brother never had GI Joes, and neither of us ever got into Mad Max (I still haven’t seen it). The most creative I ever got with our Star Wars figures was putting Han Solo in a Tupperware cup full of water and sticking it in the freezer.

My bro definitely had some free-form Lego when we were kids, but for whatever reason we were both more into his Girder & Panel sets.

You’re probably nearly there at this point, but safe travels!

…but with the heels, right?

Mine too! Strawberry is a close second, followed by blueberry, but raspberry’s definitely at the top.

Got and assembled it last month. You can see a photo here.

Confession: I bought big expensive Chewbacca just so I could get this tiny record player, which was only available as a gift with purchase. As soon as I saw it, I had to have it! I keep it on top of my actual record player, which it resembles.

It’s very cool that you thought of me…thank you!

Welcome back!
