(Old) Prepping for a visit in the MMP

Chloé and I just picked up a breakfast wrap from our friend’s café. We went through the drive-thru, and the everyone working the counter and the baristas gathered at the window to ooh and aw over her. She got a pup cup, which pleased her to no end.

It’s been raining, so it will have to wait until next week.

What have I accomplished today? The clothes I washed last night are in the dryer. I made and ate a grilled (tinned) corned beef-and-Swiss, with a mixture of mayonnaise, catsup, and relish in it. I put the air conditioner away. I just moved it to the back bedroom, per SWMBO’s suggestion, and put away the poncho liner I use to keep the exhaust heat from the hose from getting in the room. The bin it sits in (to catch leakage), the double-stack of 2x6s (so the drain clears the top of the bin), the 12-inch floor tile I use to keep the whole shebang level, and the exhaust hose and window strip, are put away in the canopy shed. I’m washing the dishes. (Well, the dishwasher is, anyway. But I loaded it, moved it, and started it. )

Now it’s time for a shower, as I have to go to church (hence, no fixing the MG today.)

This really bites. Its hard to be a RDOS when you are dealing with medical issues. I hope it resolves quickly and that you are home again really soon.

:rolled_up_newspaper:

Hi MG, good to hear from you, glad you are well.

Last week, someone who was 6 days past total knee replacement arrived at PT the same time as me. They started doing range of motion exercises right away and my person told me that he would be jogging in a year.

Patient didn’t seem to be in horrible pain and there wasn’t a lot of bruising. He was using a borrowed walker and expected to be returning it in a few weeks.

Doggio would probably know more, his roomie recently had a knee replacement.

I was once called for jury duty at the federal courthouse in Phx. https://images.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search;_ylt=AwrFamz.EItqSQIAV5wPxQt.;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Nj?hspart=ata&hsimp=yhs-001&type=type9087534-aal-151007-151008&param1=151007&param2=151008&grd=true&p=federal+court+building+phoenix+arizona+pictures&fr=yhs-ata-001&th=177&tw=474&imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.online-paralegal-degree.org%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2014%2F10%2F19-SANDRA-DAY-OCONNOR-UNITED-STATES-COURTHOUSE-PHOENIX-ARIZONA.gif&rurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.online-paralegal-degree.org%2F30-most-architecturally-impressive-courthouses-in-the-u-s%2F&size=160KB&name=The+30+Most+Architecturally+Impressive+Courthouses+in+the+U.S.&oid=10&h=300&w=800&turl=https%3A%2F%2Ftse1.mm.bing.net%2Fth%2Fid%2FOIP.sXMOc1sxOtE4BhwQjZWdOQHaCx%3Fpid%3DApi&tt=The+30+Most+Architecturally+Impressive+Courthouses+in+the+U.S.&sigr=RaHFCYo4T7hW&sigit=VPV1Xzau09gV&sigi=83Wdq2FaC7QZ&sign=PfeBISIbihqk&sigt=PfeBISIbihqk

It was a huge glass covered building with a seven story glass atrium and was built in the middle of the concrete heat sink of downtown Phx. It was so hot inside that the security guards working the entrance had to be rotated every hour.

It was a very impressive, very poorly thought out piece of architecture that should be torn down and rebuilt with the climate in mind. IMHO.

Welcome back, you were missed and we didn’t talk about you behind your back. Much.

I’m glad you had a lot of fun, both of you deserved it.

71F at 1130. We went down to the dining room for the Sunday B&G, which is pretty good once you add some pepper to it. They have a new coffee maker that they haven’t really figured out yet, so the coffee was weak and not hot. Weird. I heated mine in the microwave, but then - because I had never used this one before - couldn’t figure out how to open the door to the damn thing. A kitchen staffer had to show me where the “unlock” button was. I couldn’t see it because I have trouble seeing red-on-black.

So another quiet Sunday. I’ll be doing towels and sheets sometime this afternoon.

Showered (but I’m not shaving), and I took the trash and recycling out to the street for the bi-weekly (every other week) pickup.

Some ‘Day of Rest’! I can’t do anything during the week because of my irk schedule, so I have to do everything on Saturday. Then Sunday I have to finish the things I didn’t get done Saturday, and I have to take three hours out of the middle of the day to go to church (It’s an hour’s drive, round-trip).

Catmom reported that while I was putting the a/c away, and she was reading her Bible, Goo started yowling. She came out into the living room, and Goo had caught a moth in the catio and brought it in to show it off. But no one was there, so she called. Catmom released the moth outside of the catio.

I’ve heard recoveries aren’t that bad. I hope that they can use an OEM-style joint that restores my range of motion. My knee hasn’t bent more than 90º since high school.

Something to think about is the recovery time. My shoulder is expected to take six months for full recovery if I keep going with the program. I’m at two months now and am mobile and able to drive. I can tell that I still have a long way to go, but the hard part is over.

I would assume it would work that way with knee replacements, once you are able to walk unassisted, you should be able to go back to work and do your PT at home or schedule it for your lunch break.

Everyone I know who had had joint replacements has told me at least once that they wished they hadn’t waited as long as they had to get the surgery. The younger you are, the faster you will recover.

Four hours of work later, I’m finally freeeeee! I’m actually glad that I took the time today: all but 30 min of it was spent on a task that required focus, and that kind of thing is much easier to do outside of regular work hours – plus, it winds up taking less time and being of higher quality when I can be heads-down. Now it’s 2:11pm, and I get to go downstairs and have my afternoon protein shake (and maybe some cookies) while I build Lego and watch The West Wing on the Roku. That’ll be my plan until dinnertime, at which time I’ll relocate to the TV room for the evening and will start my laundry (the washer and dryer are in that room [behind bi-fold doors]).

Happy hunting (if you go)! :shopping:

:crossed_fingers:

That seems like a poor design choice for a retirement community!

We started out with 59Ferrets with a forecast high of 83F. It’s currently a quite survivable 76F.

< jot, jot > Another PNW destination for me to shoot for. Sounds like you had a nice time – I hope so, Lily! Sorry about the sharp edge on the aligner tray. Damaged tongues are no fun.

Boy, are they ever. So rare in my life, they are worthy of major celebration.

Yeah, it’s a store policy in many places that has nothing to do with how old you look. Just card everyone. Although I’m sure in your case, shoe, it’s because you retain your youthful appearance, and they really needed to check! Congrats on getting going on health insurance. It’s a total ripoff – but it’s a much bigger ripoff if you need it and don’t have it.

Nut, truly, I appreciate the in-depth explanation you gave for why I had the Arizona blackberry experience I did. Makes all the sense, though it’s sad to me. The berries I pick here in the wild – two varieties, trailing native and invasive Himalayan – are so flavorful. Worth enduring the nasty thorns. The fruit has intense berry flavor, and when made into preserves or pies, the cooked, sweetened berries take on an almost honey-like flavor. I hope you foraged, and that you found some really good ones!

With how the canes attack, I don’t blame you a bit if you don’t even like the fruit!

Like you both, I was gobsmacked to hear it. But the people who built the original little house baffled me in many ways. So meticulous… and yet, “clueless” is such a good descriptor for other choices. I’m very comfortable with the isolation. Though like metal mouse I know the day is coming, I find it very hard to think about moving back into an urban setting, or even suburbia.

It is a true gift, BooFae, and one I try to appreciate as often as possible. Star gazing is a regular pastime.

FCM, our tag fees in Oregon aren’t as bad as Taters’ are in Washington, but they’re still more expensive that yours. We don’t have a state sales tax here, so they make up revenue in other ways best they can.

It’s stories like you’ve related about your neighbors that keep me tethered fast to this rural place. I just have no tolerance for thoughtless people anymore. It’s funny; I rarely hear unidentifiable sounds in the bushes or trees. (Of course, that might be due to hearing loss! ) Usually what will grab my attention is one of my motion-sensor lights going on, or Ollie will start barking his silly head off. Usually the lights reveal a deer. Three times, it’s been a cougar strolling down the driveway past the house. Which is fine, so long as I see them before they see me or Ollie! Is Maisie still better? I do hope so. her symptoms are odd but clearly concerning.

52, that’s a great story. I’m glad you had the source of revenue, but I sure sympathize with how pleased you were when you no longer had to pick them. I hope your dinner with your friend comes off and that you have a wonderful time!

I should have known you had already dotted your i’s and crossed your t’s for this situation. They sound like reasonable people. I’m sure you’ll be able to work something out that is mutually agreeable. Glad you enjoyed your dinner with BFF and WifeBFF!

What is that ugly thing stuck on the edge of the glass pretending to be a garnish? A preserved lemon? I don’t remember those as being quite so… aged-looking. I can hang with the lime wedge and the rosemary sprig, but good god! It would be removed before I put my schnoz anywhere near the glass.

I think doggio epitomizes that. (Except for that nasty garnish.)

Congratulations! That’s such an achievement – but not surprising. And you do have such glamour pusses. Thanks for sharing the piccies!

“Dark” in Arizona is very different than “dark” in Oregon. We have so much moisture in the air, our truly clear nights are rare. It’s DARK, but there’s still atmosphere that prevents us from seeing the breathtaking array of stars you get in Arizona. We can make out the Milky Way, but only just.

I can think of much worse ways to spend one’s time.

Hi back, @EmilyG! Wishing you well, too!

Props indeed. I’m well over my own arachnophobia, but I don’t think I could be as stalwart as your Missus if I discovered a spider on my head!

I know.  But take heart: The forecast for tomorrow calls for a high of 92Ferrets! (However, the rest of the week is mid to upper 70s. )

Get your nap on, metal mouse! Could today be the day?

Welcome back! I’ll look forward to the recap if you are able, but happy to hear you had a good time!

I get these all the time. Sometimes they will occur one right after another for a few hours. I thought they were triggered by ibuprofen, which I take semi-regularly, but I’m less sure about that cause and effect now. As you say, they’re harmless and painless. Still, a bit annoying.

I just got exhausted for her! Enjoy the rest of LOA!

Mollie, glad you’re having fun and success with your games! Good luck on your shopping excursion.

I hope it goes your way, red, and that you get sprung.

Ollie has never had a pup cup. Poor deprived canine.

That kind of lack of planning puts my homebuilders to shame. WTF were they thinking?? (Obviously not at all!)

This is my last quiet day for awhile, so I’m taking full advantage. Ollie and I are snugged up on the sofa while I catch up on the doings of the Mumpers and savor a cup of tea. I have to shevel later, but that’s to save me having to do it tomorrow.

Did a bit of berry-picking this morning, but most of them need more time to ripen. I’ll leave it for a couple of days now.

Breakfast was crepes stuffed with cream cheese and topped with a bit of maple syrup, along with some ham and a fresh peach. Can’t think what to have for dinner. Maybe tuna salad.

Tomorrow I must take my little old car in for an oil change and for my mechanic to see if the unsettling little shiver I felt in the steering column during a recent drive is anything to worry about. Some friends will rescue me from spending hours in the mechanic’s waiting area. We’re going off to lunch at a new-to-me Japanese restaurant. I’ll run some errands before dropping the car. Fingers crossed the fix for the shiver won’t be horrible.

The rest of this day is for house-irk and laundry. Livin’ large, folks!

Enjoy your days, all!

Hope they get you squared away soonest, red.

Got my book uploaded to the contest; now on to the next time-limited writing tasks.

I didn’t sleep well, so I checked in now and then on the Kickstarter I mentioned above, watching it get to goal in around 18 hours.

I had a haircut this morning, then we went to Fred Mayer for non-abrasive toothgel, borscht, and potatoes. Oh, the excitement! They had no Cholula, though. What’s with that? The new flu vax is in, and they hope to have the new COVID in a few weeks. With luck, I can get stuck before I travel this fall.

I found a nice green tank top, and that was all they had in my size. Everything else was either itty-bitty or giant mega sized. I did find a amusing t-shirt with Snoopy and Woodstock dozing on his doghouse captioned “Not Today.”

They have a wall of 6.5 quart crock pots, but they’re only 30% off. I’m gonna gamble they’ll still be there when the big discounts begin.

I also learnt that corporate isn’t shutting them down - it’s one of their busiest stores. The mall didn’t renew their lease because they want to become more upscale. The next tenant of that space will be the much more upscale store (checks notes) Dick’s Sporting Goods.

:woman_facepalming:

What shade of green? I love celery but very hard to find in store.
70 degrees here. Fall is in the air. Candy corn in the store.

Well, not everyone is color deficient. Red-on-black is a common choice for a lot of things, unfortunately. There was a restaurant down the street that had that combo on their sign outside. I drove past it every single time unless me wife said “Here we are.”

They do know how to work da kyoot for the chance of a pup cup, don’t They?

 Let me guess: Cool Springs?

It looks like we’ll begin a new course of treatment after some tests tomorrow. Meanwhile, the pneumonia (just a spot on my lower right lung) that was caught with the first chest x-ray is beginning to clear up. Oy! I’m falling apart.

Back from the capital and starting to dry off. It was hot and humid today and I think we need to redo my sandwich board. He used that corrugated plastic stuff because he wanted it to be light enough to be easy for me to put on and wear.

That wasn’t a good idea, I was roasting after ten minutes. I stuck it out for a couple of hours but folks nearby sure did hear about my suffering.

If you want to really see some stars, plan a day and night at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff and try to do it in the spring or fall so it isn’t horrible hot.

Flagstaff is high altitude and I used to live at 3400 ft. The observatory kicked my ass the first time because it was really hot and the air was so much thinner than I was used to.

Flagstaff is also a Dark Sky designation and had lots of regulations about what sort of after dark lighting was permitted. Of course there were no lighted billboards, the street lights were shaded and certain colors were required, plus there were the Nosy Neighbors who would knock on doors to tell people that their porch light covers needed changed.

As a result, it is VERY dark.

The observatory itself is staffed by ASU astrology students who love their job and will happily talk about it forever if allowed. There are telescopes open for anyone willing to stand in a fairly short line and if you are the last on in line you can look as long as you want. Or you can go back as often as you want.

They have lectures going on all afternoon but you don’t have to listen if you don’t want to. I enjoyed how the different young people could present the same facts in so many different ways while holding tight to truth and science.

Until you brought up the Pluto debate. That’s when the facts and words like “committees” and voting would come into play.

I’ve stared at the sun and have seen Jupiter’s mesmerizing rings. I saw Saturn ringless once, and saw a blob that everyone said was Pluto.

…and all of the docents/guides are cultists who identified themselves to me once they saw my signum. Fingers forgot the name…thinking…

A nice forest green, I think.

How’d you guess? It’s a good mall. I would have hung out at as a teenager.

Nitpick: Astronomy

Damnit. I know the difference, it seems as though my fingers want to type in Latin today and autocorrect is even less help that it was before AI got involved.

After more than 22½ years, I finally took a ride on Plover. And none too soon. Next weekend marks, potentially, the last time people can ride it. We saw gulls and cormorants and seals.

Leaving the house for the marina, I put my head into an orb-weaver’s web. I felt the spider on my head when I went to brush off any potential passengers. I hope she wasn’t injured. Oh, and there was a little jumping spider in the back bedroom looking cute this morning.

Back when I was working, I’d go home, pet kitties and go out in the back porch and smoke tobacco for a while. AZ had a big grasshopper problem and it offended me to see them eating my porch posies so I would wack them on sight.

One day I noticed a tunnel spider’s nest in the gap between the house and deck so tossed an almost dead grasshopper on the web and used a stick to lure the spider out for din-din. After a while, the spider would come to the top of its nest as soon as it felt my footsteps on the deck and would even run out and snatch dead and unmoving grasshoppers and drag them away.

Once in a while it would do some housekeeping and toss all of the desiccated bodies out for me to sweep up which also entertained me.

Then came the monsoons and spider washed away. The next year I was cleaning spider webs off the porch daily because there were millions of the little assholes taking over the porch.

The adventures I went on this summer include seeing aliens, my favourite band playing in my backyard, and watching grocery store tennis. It’s been fun!

(I saw the band Angine de Poitrine, who dress as polka-dotted aliens. The Sam Roberts Band played a concert in my part of town. And I saw my first-ever sports matches when I watched tennis at the IGA Stadium, which is named after a grocery store.)

I also played some new music in a clarinet choir that consisted of two clarinet choirs combined, so that was exciting!

I cleaned and dusted, changed spot’s litter and took out the trash and recycling. I attempted to nap. Spot attempted to eat my right arm. I’m watching F1, and having a Wisconsin Old Fashioned. Dinner is poke loin with Pig Salt, sweet N.O.T. and cheesy broccoli.

thought that was accordion to plan. Polka Dot?

Is that anything like Horror Express?

Likely, as long as you at least half ass your PT. You might do better, since you are still 100% more mobile than roommie pre surgery.

Dehydrates lime. The limes around here aren’t very juicy, so I can spare a sliver for a garnish.

I did get wood at the dumpster today*

Gordie never got one because he’d had a conniption at a drive through window(I miss the weirdo).

Indeed.

That’s the problem with house spiders. They leave food wrappers everywhere.

*somebody left a pack of firewood out in the Freecycle Zone.
