Or … OR … Car(e)less Co-worker would call in the favor within, what, eighteen hours? Needed a ride to go pay off some utilities. So now I’m sitting in some parking lot waiting on his slow ass instead of mushing my pillows.
He saw I was online (you guys ratted me out!) so I couldn’t pretend to ignore him, and I DID owe him a favor after last night.
Except I really wasn’t planning to be awake right now and I doubt I’ll get even a catnap before work at this point, so … sigh & grrrr.
We’re in the middle of a rip-roaring storm. Weather predictions were that we’d get gusts of 40 mph, and those are happening right now. It’s pouring down rain, too. I love it; we need rain and lots of it. Oh, and San Francisco was under a tornado watch this morning, which is pretty much unheard-of.
Posting from just south of San Jose, CA.
ETA: oops, lights just flickered. Gotta find the “storm lantern” even if it is daylight, just in case.
After the gutter guy left, FCD and I sat down with a spreadsheet and a bank statement and divided up MIL’s estate, such as it was. The amounts for TX SIL, her son, and Daughter were the easy part, once I got FCD to look at it the right way (MY way!) Then he wanted to go see his other brother and discuss his share - and as I expected, BIL wants us to handle it as we suggested, with me managing his rent and annuity. Plus he and I will go to the credit union this week and have me added to his account just in case. And, at his suggestion, he gave FCD the phone number of his case worker and the case worker’s boss. Dunno why BIL was in such a good mood today, but we’ll take it!
When we got home, I climber into the attic to look for a bed frame - we had 3!! I also found a bunch of medical equipment, including a couple of walkers, a cane, and a travel chair. I’ll be taking everything to ACTS next week. Oh, and BIL asked for a few of his mom’s things, so I’ll take them to him when we have our appointment.
With all that out of the way, I can attack the closets. Guess I should get on it.
Yep. That’s (up here, well north of you) what I was posting about. Wind gusts should hit 50 to 55 mph. The winds should die down by at least half by 16 o’clock. We’re going down to the Tulalip Casino to see the Christmas lights. 75 miles away, so we’ll leave around three.
Spammeneggs on toast for breakfast. The Spousal unit wanted yoghurt and a bowl of oatmeal this morning.
Our generator is full of fuel, and I’ve just received new extension cords to replace the ones Mrs. L.A. stole for the Christmas lawn decorations. (The larger reindeer, and the sleigh with presents in it, blew overm BTW.)
It’s a good thing, mostly. I’ve been doing a job for Seattle Metro (public transit) since mid-November, with a long weekend home for Thanksgiving. So yeah, steady $$$ coming in. We’re working 9-10 hour days, and dinner with the team most nights, so there’s not much time for anything else. Going to a Kraken game tonight, which I’m excited about.
I’m scheduled to fly home next Saturday, but it’s looking like we’ll be finished with the job Tuesday or Wednesday, and I’m not mad about that.
My next job is scheduled for January 13th (coincidentally also in Seattle), so it’ll be nice to have a few weeks at home.
Used mine for two 12-packs of Diet Pepsi and two of Pepsi Zero; saved a neat $20.
Taters, enjoy the new TV. And hopefully the new cleaner.
Shoe, ah, the joys of owing someone a favor…
lucky, take care and hope the weather doesn’t get any worse.
FCM, glad the disposition of the will is going so well, you hear of families bickering for months/years over it, hopefully everyone will stay calm.
Wheelie, nice too hear the job is doing you good.
Hippo Birdie Two Ewes JtC
Worked with the U8’s for a couple hours and refereed the U10’s for another hour then pooped out and came home to Second Breakfast (pancakes, toast, bacon) and will go back out for the U12’s here shortly. And that should finish wearing me out for the day.
(stolen because I’m too tired to be creative. Deal with it.)
I fear if TX BIL hadn’t died, he’d be all up in our faces, demanding to see bank statements and the will and all that. His widow is just pleased to be getting something - I don’t know how many people would do that for a mere inlaw. Meanwhile, local BIL doesn’t care. We could tell him his mom left him $100 and he’d say “OK” and just move on. Lucky for him, his older brother is honest.
Taking a break - OMG, the stuff I’m finding! Five more pillows bagged in the basement in addition to the 5 up here. Two will be used on the guest bed and I’ll keep 2 extras. FCD wants to swap out his current pillow, and Daughter said she might take a couple. The rest will go to a local mission.
I also found a bunch of disposable diapers that Daughter will take since Tobias still sleeps in them, and I came across 2 pairs of sweatpants left here for emergencies for the kids. Plus miscellaneous sheets, pillow cases, towels, blankets, afghans… And there are 2 twin size electric blankets that are going to Daughter, and 2 queen size electric blankets, one will go on the guest bed, one will be put aside in case we need it. Plus 5 throw pillows. Oh, and a TV. And a big plastic bin with 2 more afghans and I don’t know what else because I haven’t dug into it yet.
No wonder I’m exhausted!!!
In about 2 hours, I’m going to run to CVS to pick up a couple of photos I had printed for BIL. He wanted a pic of his parents, so I got him one of the two of them, and another with the two of them and my grands. I’ll just stick them in one of the gazillion frames lying around here.
OK, break over. Gotta see what else is left on the floor.
So, I broke down the steam cleaner some more, cleaned out everything I could find, and still no love. Do not purchase a Hoover Spinscrub Max 60 model. Only today did I find out that many are unhappy with it.
So, I mulled over my options. I could pay to repair, and never be really happy, because frankly, it only ever did an okay job. I could opt to rent a cleaner every time I needed to steam clean, and who the hell wants to do that? I have pets, I have to drag it out often. I could buy another brand, but still only have an okay job. So, I sprang for the professional cleaner and got this new steam cleaner
It arrives on Monday. I could have bought the newest higher-end home bissel cleaner, but when it came down, this wasn’t all that much more expensive. The latest home bissel steam cleaner is coming in at around $389 bucks. Still, I didn’t want to have to spend this money at all.
Okay, since I can’t steam clean today, I guess I’ll take care of other chores.
Wheelie, I’m waving to you from about 45 miles or so south of you.
Happy Birthday, JtC!!! I hope you’re having a great day.
We ran around and took some art stuff to the mall and a small donation to the Humane Society. Somewhere in there we stopped for lunch at Bob Evans. The best part was that he was wearing his grinch sweatshirt and a grinch Christmas hat and I was wearing a giant red hair bow covered with sequins!
Done. For now. At least with the guest room. I rearranged the shelves to make them more practical, since we don’t need to hang clothes in there any longer. Top shelf is pillows and some extra pillow cases, so not a lot of weight, and no harm if they should fall off the shelf. Second shelf has the sets of king sheets that used to be crammed into the office closet. Bottom shelf has queen sheet sets for the guest room bed, plus space for something else to be determined. In the bottom is the TV that should probably be donated, the big bin full of blankets, and the steam vaporizer.
I messaged the woman who mentioned the mission in Solomons, telling her what I have. I hope she can take it all, but we shall see. Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for CVS to tell me my photos are ready for pickup. I found a pair of matching frames, removed the old photos, and cleaned the glass - goodness, were they dusty!! I suppose I should take the unwanted photos out of their frames and figure out who will want them. That’ll be one less box in the dining rooom.
Who knew disposing of other people’s crap would be so difficult?? Yeah, I know, one man’s crap is another person’s treasure. Of course all my stuff truly is treasure!
So, it’s a bit after 2 - must think about supper - dine in, eat out, or just forage? Something tells me the supper fairy won’t appear with a magnificent feast for two. Lazy bitch.
Forgot to mention - in the attic are 2 Christmas trees. They must have been MIL’s because the one I had went to the grands last week. Not sure why she had 2 - I never saw 2 set up in her house. Maybe one is just a box with other stuff in it? Dunno.
The first batch of brandy mince tarts are in the oven. This year’s mix is really good.
Sadie is really off her feed (one can instead of three) and is staying under the bed most of the day. I’m hoping this is normal recovery mode and not something else.
Trying to get some enthusiasm among the relations for a NYD informal get together so I can foist off some of this ham. Mild interest at this point, but perhaps it will get better.
I once did a (yarn) chain of links. They weren’t red and green, but the liturgical colors of the church year. So white, red, green, blue, violet, one pink, two black, according to the season of the church year.
I would come! I love ham, it’s what we are having as the main meat at our family dinner this year.
As usual clickity and I went on the shopping trip. Wild times at Michaels. They had ribbon at buy 2 get three free.
I was on a hunt to finish off some gifts. I needed it find little bowls for host gift for tomorrow. I have green, red, and white gummy bears to put in the bowls. First I saw one with a plaid border on a white bowl. Then I saw these really cool black and white bowls, score for year around and a dollar less than the plaid.
Target yielded a really cute car tins from marks and spencer . This works well as I got my co worker an emergency get out of the car thing. It can break the windows and cut the seat belt.
Back home and getting things into the proper presentation.
The cats are clingy as it has gotten cold for a bit in philly.
I originally read this as “brandy mince farts” and was really confused for a second.
I changed out batteries in the smoke alarms and that was far more difficult than it should have been. The damn things are wired in so they only come down from the ceiling a couple of inches at most, and you have to place the battery just right in order to get the arm to swing shut. After lugging the step ladder all over the house there’s still one that needs the battery replaced, but it’s higher than the others. I’ll have to persuade someone less vertically challenged to tackle that one.
Enjoyed a late lunch at a delicious restaurant with New Mexican style cuisine. So not sure what will end up being for dinner but won’t have to worry about it for a while!
I not only replaced the kitchen trash can, but bought a new laundry hamper while I was at Tar-jay (how’s that for mundane). I swung through the big Dollar Tree in the same shopping center for a gift bag and some tissue paper and got out $15 later (does anyone ever get out of there with just what they came in for?). I stopped at Firehouse Subs for a French dip because they’ve been advertising the hell out of them and they looked good. I usually don’t do subs, but whatever. I wasn’t impressed and a medium 6" was $11 for just the sandwich!
Now, I’m settling down to make some snowfolk candy bars.
