(Old) Rainy Days and Mondays in the MMP

SWMBO decided she’s too tired and lazy to go down to see the Christmas lights today. We’re going down the beach for dinner, and then we’ll come home and watch Scrooge (1951, colourised).

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! I am still juvenile enough to snicker at my current age (while still enjoying the activity).

Look at you being all forward thinking and stuff!

The local fire department will come out and check batteries on smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors (I think there is an age requirement there, but we haven’t called them). Maybe call the non-emergency number and ask if your fire department does such a thing. They will schedule a time when they hope they can be there, so you can alert your neighbors about the impending hunks.

I hope so as well…but she did just get a bunch of teeth yanked, it stands to reason that her mouth still hurts a little. I’m hoping that she will be more herself in the morning.

:people_hugging:

Blushes and all!

I hope your ankle is feeling better. We sure don’t bounce as well as we did when we were shoe’s age, do we?

Thank you. The big problem I can see is that AZ DES opens limited bank accounts with Bank of America for the claimants. DES can deposit money, the claimant can only withdraw that money, it isn’t a “real” bank account. I don’t have an account with Bank of America and can’t even find out if my super common name (almost 500 of us in AZ) had an account at that time. I’ll try to call on Monday, but I have the feeling that will be a big waste of time.

I’m not really that concerned at this time, I’d be more worried if we still lived in AZ or if I was still working and might need UI in the future.

Dang about the steam cleaner, but at least you were able to get one that will hopefully do a good job.

My day was pretty low-key. Laundry got done (almost, last load is in the spin cycle) and while I had the blanket off the fuzzbutts loveseat, I finally got around to sewing the cushions to the wicker so they stopped sliding around.

I was hoping to start my new project today, but due to the instructor’s plumbing issues, class has been delayed a week.

I can’t decide between baking cookies for Hub’s medical team on Monday or buying a few boxes of cookies from the grocery sto. Mrs Harry says that chocolate crinkle cookies are irresistible but I always wonder if strangers really want to eat home baked goods made in an unknown kitchen. I’ll probably just make a batch and then give them to Harry if I change my mind.

Focusing on stoopid shit is my way of coping when I’m worried and I’m super good at it.

@JaneDoe42
Happy birthday!

Howdy Y’all! We are stocked up on diet Poopsie and Poopsie zero. Also I bought a head of cabbage. Sup ended up bein’ kielbasa with cabbage, carrots, onions, garlic and ‘shrooms. SOOOOOO gooooood!

And now this…

< AHEM > CLEARIN’ THROAT < AHEM >

HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!

HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!

That’s ok, I originally read it as “brandy mice tarts.

ETA later: I see someone else had the same experience, oops! ninjaed. That’s what I get for reading, quoting, commenting, posting and then going back and reading the thread to the end.

shoe I could see making mice tarts, with onions, garlic and butter of course, but not the rest of yah.

Happy Birthday! :birthday:

Mrs. L.A. had a couple of raspberry vodka drinks, and I had a couple of Manhattans. She had clam chowder and a crab cake for dinner. I had my favourite, pan-roasted rockfish. This time I started with a grilled Caesar salad. Next time, I won’t. I’m too full.

Apparently there’s a potluck after church tomorrow, and Mrs. L.A. forgot about it. (I did too.) She didn’t know what to bring, so I suggested cornbread. I usually make the cornbread, but she’s making it tonight. I got out the mixing bowl, spoon, and cornmeal, and slathered the cast-iron frying pan with Crisco shortening so that I could say I helped. Once she gets it into the oven, we’ll watch Max Fleischer’s Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer cartoon and then Scrooge.

The heaving itself wasn’t bad. But a bunch of people called out/were late so I started on the 100 Table, which led to management panicing when they couldn’t find me.
Them: “dogbutler, try to get into the holiday spirit!”
Me: < buys 3 fifths of gin at the Likker Sto > (my anti-tariff stash  )
But I did laundry, Spot and I napped, now I’m up, and having a pint of Guinness and some Asian BBQ stifry.
And Spot just hornked on the couch.

“MA! I WANT DEM POTATO STUFFED MICE, TOO!”

There was a Cowboy Bebop episode about that: Session 11: “Toys in the Attic”

Sorry, man.

:partying_face::birthday: :champagne:HAPPY BIRITHDAY JtC:champagne: :birthday: :partying_face:

< Pretzel has entered the chat >

Viking Wife: “What’s that noise on the roof?”
Viking: “Rain.”
Wife: “Are you sure?”
Viking: “Rudoph the Red knows rain, dear.”

The tea party started late, so I left early to catch a bus.
We had tea ( I chose gingerbread, twas good)
Veggies with dip, soup, and cookies.
A cute quiz, figure out the real titles of Christmas songs.
A few cute ones:
I spied my maternal parent osculting a red coated, unshaven teamster
Vehicular homicide was committed by dad’s mom by a precipitous darling
Sir Lancelot with laryngitis.

I am having trouble with.The apartment of 2 psychiatrists…anyone?

THERE ARE BABY FLYING SQUIRRELS IN THE HOUSE!!!

Not my house, the SFS nest Harry put up by the river and not the one with the interior cam, DAMNIT!

Harry thought something was going on and got his grandkid to climb a ladder and take a pic. The pic shows BIG eyes in little fur balls.

We are so excited!!!

And WHY has this picture not been shared with the rest of us? Partying too hard?

THREE HOURS LATER …

Neither of us was anticipating this taking so long. I redeemed the utter interruption in my day by checking out the creatively named “The Pita Place” next door while waiting.
Got falafel and some chicken soup (“Would you like free pita bread with that?” “What kind of monstrous heathen barbarian says No to free fresh warm pita bread?!? … I mean, uh, yes please.”)
Had a nice snack, then discovered I had three sweaters plus my spare hoodie in my car, and curled up for a nap.

I kinda thought, “Man, I should clean out my car,” and then it occurred to me that if I’d done so, I wouldn’t have a cozy nap.

The place is clear across the state like a solid ten, maybe fifteen minutes from my house, and looks incredibly promising for their other offerings.

You, like, found a whole entire TV in your home? Where do you live, Narnia?

So far, my holiday spirit has been hauling the little Xmas tree that’s been in my family since approximately as long as I have been, up from the basement.

I put a few shoes on the box, in hopes of deterring a curious Monkey. So far, it seems to be working.

Now to find and clear off a Monkey-proof place for it … HA! Who am I kidding. No such place exists (except the spot on top of the one armoire where he can’t jump up but KNOWS that’s where squeezy-crack and catnip live) but a tree that’s rattled around multiple states for several decades doesn’t have anything breakable on it anymore, not for a long time.

Whelp, I know what Pretzel is gettin’ for Christmas!

No.

You mentioned this earlier … can you post pics, or a link to the instructions?

I may or may not need a lazy/easy way to bring holiday cheer to work.

There aren’t enough pearls to clutch.

Didja find one that can be carried one-handed? I got one after an extended convo here awhile back about the (non)safety of many of our stairs to/fro the laundry room, and OMG I am so glad I got it.

Will happily give the 'Mazon link to anyone who wants it.

TMI, honey. TMI.

Just kidding, I know what you meant.
Apparently a lot of that goin’ around! Maybe we can make your instructor an honorary Mumper.

Mrs. Harry is a wise woman. Those are among my absolute favorites.

Well. Of COURSE.

One of my favorite little jokes at work is to toss a single pepperoni onto the pizza being made next to me.

“I helpded.”

Depending on who is standing there - and their mood that day - reactions range from a mild glare, to a full laugh, to a side-eyes “WTF?” look.

D’aaaawwwwwww.

I love how famous she’s gotten here.

The “jokes” thread is thataway sir.

ZOMFG I DEMAND PHOTOS AND FURTHER STORIES

Okay, a long-awaited package from the ‘rents has arrived (it hopefully contains a particular knitted item I begged my mom to make … and also they supposedly MAILED ME A 3-DIGIT CHECK to help with the tire replacement, which is an improvement over last year when my mother mailed a non-insignificant amount of FRIGGIN’ CASH in a nonsecure leftover Hallmark envelope, why do these people do this to me??) and I let her know it’s here & then turned to y’all for procrastination therapy, so now it’s unboxing time.

Don’t light any matches for a while.

What, no birthday candles?!? { pout }

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/49f with a predicted high of 12c/53f and cloudy. Weather app reminds us all that “It’s fucking cloudy and still not a good day to blast out fucking unsolicited dick pics to random people.” Thanks for the reminder, although I am not equipped to do that

Happy birthday, JtC :ribbon: :gift: :tada: :confetti_ball:

Yesterday was very good - we took £170 in the donation buckets, and the girls on the tills in the afternoon said they took at least another £150 (no idea what they took in the morning). The store runs a promotion called Santa Paws from late November until 24th December, and we need to be in store for 28hrs during that time. We collect cash and we’ve had cakes to sell, plus people can donate direct to the appeal at the cash desk. Whatever we take goes through the tills, and 50% of all the Santa Paws donations from the region’s stores will be shared between local rescue charities. The rest goes into the Pets at Home Foundation which gives us funds as the partner charity to the Merry Hill store, and has funding for grants etc that we apply for during the year. It’s hard work but worth it! I think we got about £5,000 from last year’s Santa Paws!

I love a good storm, I hope you stay safe, powered and warm!

That sounds like a win for you both, and presumably a bit less stress for FCD later. And a win for ACTS with your attic treasure!

The rest will do you good after working such long days, but the money’s always nice at the end of it

Sounds like buying a new one is the best thing to do - shame it comes on the back of purchasing the new TV, but you wouldn’t be happy with a repair to the current one nor with the idea of renting one so often. Sometimes you’ve just got to make yourself happy!

I’m up reasonably early for a Sunday, feline tums and bums has been completed and I’ve had breakfast along with two mugs of tea. I need to get moving now, I have to get some petrol as I’m almost down to fumes again, then scoot over to Merry Hell for a couple of hours browbeating innocent shoppers into buying cake for the sake of the kittehs…then home to do domestic drudgery. 'im indoors is in charge of dinner today, and there’s a joint of beef in the fridge so he’ll be doing something with that.

Right…time I was elsewhere!

Sounds like a pretty good charitable day, BooFae!

JtC, I concur, where are the pictures??

I just woke up from a dream where a person who was 50% Danny Devito and 50% someone that I know here locally was doing surgery on my feet. It was just out in the open and the person was inserting two pieces of plastic under my toes. Then they just let me go off onto my next task of the day when they were done!

Nope, no idea what I might have eaten in order to inspire that.

We have tentatively planned to take my mom to the movie theater to see White Christmas on the big screen today! I say tentatively because the weather up in Canton is supposed to be suspicious until around noon and our tickets are for 12:45ish. I hope they’re wrong about the weather and we can all go. My mom and I do love that movie!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 52 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 66 and mostly cloudy. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization wherein I get to plop in a pew. Then it will be back to da cave for a sammich N.O.L. followed by RDOS inactivities. Sup shall be leftovers from yestiddy.

CupCakes last night’s fartfest was legendary.

JtC I too wish to see baby flyin’ squirrel pics.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

It’s the flat-screen TV that was in our bedroom before I got stoopit and bought a FireTV. Being flat and only 32", I’d put it against the wall at the end of the closet - not exactly in plain view, especially when MIL loaded all her clothes in there. So once I emptied the closet, there it was!

OK, was that split 50-50 head to toe or, like, divided at the waist?? I’m having problems visualizing…

We’re about to launch into a soggy week - chances of rain on and off thru Thursday. Definitely glad we got the gutters cleaned yesterday. Also glad I don’t have anything I have to do outside.

Today’s plan is to make 2 piles of stuff - one going to Daughter, one being donated. And, of course, there’s trash - like the gazillion photos that TX BIL and SIL sent to MIL and FIL. TX SIL didn’t want them back and we don’t want them, so good-bye! I’ll also set up the bed frame so when my young and strong son-in-law brings the bed up from the basement, it can go right in place. Oh, and it’s clean-the-icemaker day. (Actually, yesterday was, but, well, yanno…)

And so begins another day in the paradise that is FairyChatEstate. Happy Sunday!!

Its about to rain here. A few days of warmies (40-50) then back to normal.
Getting ready for church.
After that, football!

How about 'im indoors?

Along with a few tablets that could be ground up in her food, we were given a bunch of very thin syringes with a small amount of pain-killer in them (oral med). Problem was, she got so skittish about being given them that we gave up trying. But she’s so clearly in pain at this point that we grabbed her twice yesterday and gave her a dose. She was almost immediately interested in being fed again, so that’s good.
