(Old) Rainy Days and Mondays in the MMP

I am pretty sure the Browns will not win today.
But who knows?

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 39F and drizzling outside. We’ll have morning showers and afternoon cloudiness, and the expected high temperature is 49F.

BooFae, I’m glad the donations are coming in.

JtC, I’d love to see the pics of the little critters!

I don’t have much of anything but laundry on today’s agenda. Buster and Maisie each need a bath, which might be on the agenda, too. We shall see.

Other than that, it’s back to the salt mines tomorrow. I have lots on tomorrow’s work agenda, so it will be one hell of a day.

Time for more coffee! I hope today is a restful day for all.

It’s something that I’m making up as I go along. I’m wrapping the bars in copy paper, using markers to make the coal buttons and nose, scrap ribbon for the scarf, cutting some brown cardstock for the arms and black cardstock for the hat, with more scrap ribbon for the hatband. Use what you have.

The one that I got has a rim that flips up to make a handle and two wheels on the back. I won’t have to pick up a full hamper to take it to the laundry room (all of 20’ away, but with aging bones, some days painful).

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP / Sunday chores. Not a whole lot of other stuff on the agenda today. It’s spitting rain on and off, so an indoor day.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

It’s a style of Mexican food that is quite tasty and features green and red chiles, which can be any spice level from mild to blazing hot. For enchiladas, the tortillas are usually made from blue corn and slathered in a delicious sauce made from those chiles (and cheese, always lots of cheese!). Another popular dish is posole, which is a stew made with chicken or pork, chiles, and hominy.

Here’s the menu of a popular restaurant in Santa Fe if you’re curious.

Oh well now this is quite an attractive solution!

I promise that if I had a recognizable pic of the SFS, it would have been posted last night. The pic the young person quickly took wasn’t good to start with and it pixelated when I tried to share it with you.

I can assure you that Harry’s new hobby is to take pics of them without scaring or otherwise interfering with them. When I get good pics, you will get them because everyone needs a dose of extreme cuteness now and again.

They also do it in Boise. Mom is always all atwitter after their yearly visit

I miss Hatch chili’s. I need to figure out a way to get them shipped, they are so worth it.

Oh, poor lil dear. I hope her sore mouth heals up quickly. It might be worth a call to the vet in the morning if she’s still acting hurty.

That’s great! There’s a whole bunch of kitties that can be fixed with that money. Hubs was making noises about volunteering with the local rescue group. I really hope he follows through, it would be good for him to have something to do besides play on his computer all day. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but he needs to move around once in a while.

We woke up to rain this morning, a third of an inch so far. Hubs took my car to do the grocery shopping, he wanted to fill it with Kroger points in case we have to go to Charleston tomorrow. That means I will need to go out and reset everything today, he has to be at the hospital by 0700 and I’m not going to want to mess with it in the morning.

After he gets back and the groceries are put away I’ll start baking. Cookies didn’t get made last night because Hubs mentioned missing Navajo fry bread. I made up a batch and froze half the dough balls for later.

Harry says sometimes it’s handy having a damn Yankee as a neighbor, they think they quite like hot fry bread with butter, brown sugar and cinnamon.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I’ve done the cleaning, and Spot has done the Screaming Tuxedo Zoomies. My Atari 2600+ came yesterday, so I need to set that up between handegg games and the hockey game. and make some tuna salad for lunch.

I’m not sure if he wants dick pics from Boofae, either.

Maybe the nice firemen will show JtC their hoses, too.

Our Teeter gets a batch every year, so somebody must ship.

Or maybe a bald, Oompa Loompa sized version of swampy?

Last week was weird: I didn’t work more than 40 hours, but every day was nonstop and there were a lot of “pop up” requests from both my customer and my boss. Plus, I went out Tuesday evening. Then I intended to post yesterday morning, but the mobile dog groomer showed up a full hour before the start of the 11am-2pm arrival window. I lurked all week in order to keep an eye out for developments with FCM’s MIL, but other than responding to that news – and belatedly wishing a happy birthday to JtC (:tada:)! – I’m not caught up.

I had a first earlier this morning: I got sent home from a blood drive because my iron level was too low! My mom was anemic and I’ve always been borderline, but since 2021’s bariatric surgery I’ve taken an iron supplement twice a day and my iron level has always been fine. And I’ve donated before with no problem. I do sometimes skip my evening pills (i.e., the second dose), though…maybe I’ve been skipping them a little too often? Anyway, I just missed the 12.5 minimum: the first try was 12.3, and the second was 12.4. I could try again in a week, but no available appointments work for me that soon: I’ve made one for 01/11. :crossed_fingers:

If anyone is interested, I created an Imgbb album for the Swarovski advent calendar items. :gem: Click the “AZ” button to sort them in date order. I can’t imagine ever splurging on this calendar again, but I love crystals/sparkly things and opening each door has been making me pretty happy. Next year I’ll have to see if I can find a more affordable advent calendar with items I’ll enjoy as much (Lego would seem to be a no-brainer, but I decided against a Lego calendar this year because [a] I wasn’t crazy about any of the themes and [b] I don’t have enough display space…but maybe in 2025).

Speaking of Lego, I also created an album for all of my completed sets (again, clicking “AZ” will put them in completion order). :brick: I haven’t worked on anything since I finished Chewbacca almost three weeks ago. I still have three Washington D.C.-related sets waiting for assembly, and this coming weekend I’ll start putting together the one with the most pieces (The White House): by the time it’s done – the weekend after Christmas – I’ll have undecorated and will have a place to put it. I’ll miss seeing all of the holiday Swarovski items, but I miss building Lego more.

There’s light snow in the forecast, and the sky looks like it’s gonna start any minute now! But temps are above freezing (currently 36°F), and it’ll change to rain this afternoon. Time for lunch, and to see if I can squeeze in another trip out back with Bailey before the precip begins. Catch – and catch up with – y’all in the new thread!

Well, SIL’s Rogue (as FCD put it) has gone tits-up. It sounds like a front end problem. So until they get it fixed, he’ll be driving my car. Naturally, that happens right after I fill the tank :stuck_out_tongue: I need to go empty the car of anything I may need in the interim - mostly my Aldi bags.

I do find it interesting that his step father didn’t offer their spare vehicle - they always seem to come to us. But then, I’ve heard things about step-daddy, and none were particularly flattering. Anyway, if I need a vehicle, there’s the truck, or I could drive the Santa Fe, which I’ve driven twice so far. It’s pretty big and I don’t want to put the first scratch in it…

Speaking of the Santa Fe, it’s loaded with assorted medical devices - the shower chair we borrowed from ACTS, plus 3 bedside commodes, a walker, a cane, a rollator, a travel chair, and buckets for the commodes. We’ll take them tomorrow.

Then I have 7 boxes and 2 bags of stuff to go to the mission. I’m waiting to hear back whether they want the TVs or not. That will all be delivered on Tuesday. And on Weds, I take BIL to the credit union. OMG - busy week ahead.

For now, tho, I think I’ve earned some chillage.

Making Christmas cookies today and thinking about my mom (1911- 1991) and my sister (1937- 2013), both intrepid bakers of cookies, pies and all things wonderful. They were both prolific cookie bakers, turning out many dozens every year and giving them away to friends. I’m lucky to have their recipes, if not their stamina. And I have never been able to master spritz, for some reason. I’ve had both a manual and an electric cookie press, and continue to fail at it.

What, you can’t do a Google Image search?

Awww. Best wishes (and gentle scritches!) to her.

This whole thing made me remember about a year ago, when I looked up at work to see, in the lobby, waiting for their pizzas, about half a fire truck’s worth of, um … yeah … I lost my train of thought.
As I did that day.

They probably love the attention, and the easy (e.g. non life threatening) call.

Do let us know when he brings home your 3rd cat.

That counts.

When the hell did Arizona become “damn Yankee” territory?

This whole side thread has been a winner, start to finish.

Why do I get the feeling our lovely @JaneDoe42 has a few “fireman/floozy” stories already?

Aw, naw.

Last year, I decided I like seeing my Christmas lights, dammit. And a coupla ornaments I’d hung on the wall in random spots.

Stayed up all year.

Bonus: home is pre-decorated for this year!

But seriously, I enjoyed seeing the colored lights in the window when I pulled up, late at night. They make a dandy night-light, too, for bio-break time.

If I had a collection of twinkly things, I’d, dunno, hang them in a window or something to see year-round, holiday themes be damned.

I hope you have cheerful memories to keep you warm.

That’s a damn good idea.

It’s a bit after 2 p.m. I’ll get right on it.

And a good Sunday all. Slept in, then had to do a couple errands, then did my standard Sunday internettin’ and then went to Longhorn for a steak dinner…so just getting back to the MMP now (mea culpa). It’s cool, dreary and rainy outside (boofae would call it an average day in her place…). Will probably head to the gym in a bit to burn some of the calories I took on at dinner, outside of that readin’ and internettin’ and maybe some tackleball watching will keep my occupied for the balance of the day.

Oh, and got my Sherman Tank slippers from England (I think it was doggio who recommended them, but I might be wrong). Huge things and yes, I will get pictures sooner or later…

Only 40 posts behind, how hard could it be to catch up… :scream: :scream:

FCM, sounds like you could open as second-hand store all by yourself; I know someone will appreciate it. And surprised a Nissan (Rogue is a Nissan, isn’t it?) broke down, they are usually pretty dependable.

Taters, a steam cleaning might be my Cmas present to myself this year, I don’t vacuum as much as I should so doing somedeeper cleaning might be a better option. We’ll see. I watched White Christmas (I presume the Bing Crosby/Danny Kaye one) last year for the first time in my memory, was nice but not my style (I’m more of the 'Die Hard is a Christmas movie type).

Enjoy the tackleball games, Coppertone (considering the Browns are playing the Chiefs, might not be too enjoyable).

It’s 14-0 Kansas City in the 2nd quarter; sounds like a good bet.

Sticky Buns, wish you had pictures of the pair of you in sweater and bows; must have been cute!

rocky, you have more imagination for gifting than I’ll ever have. Gift cards were my salvation for Xmas.

52, that reminds me, I need to change the batteries in my alarms…sometime.

You gotta move quicker…

JtC, homemade cookies are always appreciated, in my experience…and are often delicious. And delighted to hear about the baby flying squirrels.

shoe, I would say that favor has been fully cashed in; but you got some food into you and got a nap out of it, so it worked out.

boo fae, glad folks there in Middle England are generous.

I am a damn Yankee (even if I’ve been living in Ali-bama for over 25 years) and that causes me to salivate like Pavlov’s dog.

Oopsie, I’m taking nearly an hour to catch up one day; think you need to just recalibrate and go for it on Moanday’s new MMP. Hope you get more iron in your system soon.

Cookie, I suspect they would be proud of what you do accomplish n the kitchen. And hope Sadie keeps improving.

Anything north of the Mason-Dixon line is Damn Yankee territory per Southerners.

And it took about 50 minutes, but I think I’m more or less caught up. Off to the gym so you kind folks can keep my evening occupied. Take care all.

As far as I’m concerned, anywhere hot enough to literally fry an egg on the sidewalk is not Yankee territory.

The problems began before she even bought it - from a repair shop, not a dealer. It had to have some major repairs before it passed MD inspection (she bought it from a place in VA.) Plus neither of them are very good about keeping up with maintenance, because they say it always leads to high bills, which is because they don’t keep up with maintenance… So it’s not exactly the Rogue but its history and its owners.

MD passed a law that you must install 10-year smoke detectors, then toss them and replace them with same. So no batteries to worry about - just remembering when the 10 years run out. I wrote the install date our ours, but I can’t read it unless I climb. Wonder if I put the expiration in Outlook??

I’ve got 3 smaller, non-smart flat screen TVs that the mission doesn’t want. I think I’ll just take them to the electronics recycling bin at the convenience center. They’re not worth much - heck, they may not even work. I’ve also got a 45" FireTV in the basement that has been replaced by MIL’s 50-something inch Samsung. I hate FireTV, so that needs to go too. Wonder if I can sell it for cheap on FB?

I finally cleaned the ice maker, and it’s making ice. I watered my houseplants except for the monster one the TX SIL sent. I don’t know what it is, but I do know the soil is wet, so it doesn’t need to be watered right now. I need to find one of those apps that identifies plants so I know how to deal with it. But it’s so gawd-awful big - it takes up almost half of the foyer. Maybe I can keep over-watering it till it dies?? Yeah, nasty of me…

Guess I should give a thought or two to supper so there’s time to thaw foods.

Eh. I don’t get all worked up about the Browns. No one thought they would beat the Chiefs.
I love my Ravens, who are easily handling the Giants.

I looked up the plant - it’s a Peace Lily. It’s not going to be happy here because it’s not hot and humid. Well, we’ll enjoy it while it lasts.

The punchline to the joke is that WV split off from Virginia to fight on the side of the Union. So going by some ways of thinkin’ west Virginians are also damned Yankees.

Happy Sunday!

We have snow.
It won’t last as it’s supposed to be in the 40s tomorrow with rain all day.

My son goes back to irk tomorrow and we didn’t get everything done as I had hoped.
It’s a start.

I am not feeling well at all today. I went to bed for a bit and woke up freezing, even though the heat is set on 90 in my bedroom.
Not much is getting done today.

I bought a mouse for my laptop as I’ve been having scrolling problems. My son said it’s the laptop, not the touchpad. He is right.
I dust my keyboard every day, so I think dust is not the problem.

I hope that you’re feeling better soonest sari.

It’s been a peaceful day. I’ve figured out the snowfolk and have just a couple more to color. I cut out some out of white cardstock and am coloring them with markers and adding fiber scarves. I’ll post pics when they’re done, shoe.

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated and then had the leftover cabbage/snausage stuff for N.O.L. Then we accomplished nappage and day drinkin’. Also the biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Tomorrow night is men’s night but we will gather at one of the guys home cause he wanted to host. So steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. He has promised German N.O.T. pancakes. YUM! Thus has Sunday been in swampland.

I did laundry and cleaning, hooked up the 2600+, and channeled MOOOOOMMMMMMM!!! and did a little closet cleaning(old bobble head boxes and old computer bits). Watching hockey between handegg games. Got the poke loin in the oven.

Feel better quick, sari.
