(Old) Rainy Days and Mondays in the MMP

Good morning!

Happy anniversary toFCM and FCD, even though it’s necessarily low-key!

So I have a new grandson, born in the wee hours of Dec. 5! He weighed in at 8lbs. 14 oz, and he’s happy and healthy!

…unlike me! I knew I had a head cold when I got on the flight Thursday morning, but I’d done a home Covid test that was negative. On Friday, I realized that I’d forgotten my thyroid meds at home, so I went to three CVS clinic to get an emergency replacement. Because of my cold symptoms, they did another Covid test, and, as you’ve all guessed, that one was positive.

So I’ve been in a hotel room by myself since I got to Michigan. The only help I’ve been able to give is moral support and delivery of items (I’ve been wearing an N95 mask in public since I left my house). I was able to visit them through their storm door, but this isn’t quite what any of us had in mind. On the bright side, they’re getting to bond as a family without anyone else in the house? With any luck, I’ll test negative soon.

I want to ask my daughter and SIL first, but I’ll post pictures as soon as they give the okay! He’s incredibly adorable!

Of course you do - any sane person would!

Me too - my last boss there got a 14 and he was miserable. He was a great supervisor over my group, but when he climbed, the politics got thick along with the frustrations. As soon as he was able, he took his crayons and left.

No kidding!! Especially the candy necklaces that you wore on hot summer days and they got all sweaty and gross, but you still ate them. Kids are savages!!!

You are so spot-on about that! Red licorice is the best!!! Either strawberry or cherry - they both taste of red (N.O.R.) - YUM!!

Before I retired, I created a shrine to myself and snuck it onto my boss’ office. It was full of inside jokes and he cracked up over it. I like to think he took it when he retired… surely it has a place of honor in his house.

Congrats! That’s a big 'un!

Then you’ll get a bunch of snuggles! They owe you lots of snuggle time! Hope the plague passes quickly.

I’ve gone thru all the basement boxes. I have 3 ready for the thrift store and I found MIL’s Christmas stuff (I’d put it on a different shelf from everything else. I also found a box mostly full of pot covers, without the pots. Not sure whether they should go to the thrift store or recycling. Daughter will come over to look at the few things she’d mentioned she was interested in. I hope it’s soon. Then I can get rid of the boxes in the basement.

There are 2 boxes in MIL’s room with pictures and some dust-collecting figurines. I’ll wait to attack those. The nurse will be here this afternoon and we’re waiting for a delivery of pain meds. FCD has already gotten instructions on disposing of the non-morphine meds - the bin at CVS or the sheriff’s office. So we’re ready to deal with that. The nurse takes care of the morphine.

Meanwhile, I need lunch. It appears we got what little rain we’re going to have today - barely enough to wet the pavement. Maybe more tomorrow night? Stoopit weather.

And thanks, all, for the anniversary wishes. Maybe we’ll have our dinner out at the end of the week. That sounds awful - this whole business is awful. I need to think some happy thoughts. Time to look at grandkid photos.

Which reminds me - Daughter said Tobias is all eager to hang his new ornament on the tree - they’re doing that tonight. Such fun for the kids!

I don’t eat candy or any sweet really. I have no sweet tooth at all.

Well heck. Forgot it was Monday and should have posted this in the new thread so now I will:

Also, good title for this week’s MMP as it’s been raining here all day. Kind of bleak and dreary.

Happy Anniversary to the FairyChats! :tada:

As a native Seattleite, I don’t mind rain. I have to laugh when I watch a show that’s set in Seattle and it has tons of thunderstorms - that’s not typical Seattle rain.

I do prefer cold and dry, or cold and snow, over cold and rain. This week is our outdoor Christmas party and it will be just below freezing, but dry. There are seats inside, but the party is basically a mini Christmas market, but just the food and entertainment.

I made the peppermint meringues and manage to find both the cream of tartar and some green food coloring. Which makes me wonder when did peppermint become red? The recipe I have from my parents’ neighbor calls for green food coloring with chocolate chips. But the newer recipes call for red food coloring.

Also made poppy seed twists, which came out pretty ugly. Hopefully they taste okay.

Also organized hubby’s books and got rid of about 5-6 duplicates. Had lunch at a fancy hamburger place, which has been open for more than 6 months. It was our first time at that location, and we’ll probably go there again.

Candy I don’t like?

Any kind of wax candy, such as wax bottles or wax lips. The texture grosses me out.

Can’t stand white chocolate.

Don’t like Lindt Lindor Truffles. Neither does my husband. The give out free ones at the chocolate store at the museum and we always refuse.

I will also pass up Dove chocolate, Andes mints, most Cadbury chocolate.

The title of the OP reminded me of the song Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow by Strawberry Alarm Clock.

She’ll forgive you. After lots and LOTS of gooshy-fud and squeezy-crack.

Someone (FCM?) mentioned crab legs.

I absolutely love this phrase. Put it on a t-shirt, or my tombstone.

And now I can see, quite aptly named!

I can’t believe that’s even up for debate.

This made me snort-laugh.

Also nostalgic, I loved those things.

I hafta do a bunch of adulting today, and I reeeeeeally donwanna.

… and as I was typing that, I could hear Monkey in his :poop: box, adding to my chore list. :upside_down_face:

VPN/office Internet is down again. It’s been shaky since the wind storms a couple of weeks ago.

Just had a call from the guy doing the work. It will be seven extractions, and they will give us pain killers for the aftermath, including an oral squirt of what amounts to cat oxycontin, and a crushed tablet to put in her food. It will take at least a week of healing, but she should feel better almost immediately.

Are you some kind of mutant??? Those words make no sense strung together…

Per FCD’s request, it was chocolate chip. And I decided to make them bigger than I usually do, so instead of getting 8 dozen, I got 45 cookies. heck, they won’t last more than 2 days, so why should we have to carry 5 cookies at a time when 2 will deliver the same yumminess??

We’re gonna have sloppy joes for supper, so I’ve thought that far ahead. At the moment, we’re waiting for the nurse. The sun is out - we got a few sprinkles of rain, but the forecast for Tues night and Weds is heavy rain - here’s hoping!

For now, I think it’s tablet time.

VPN is back up.

SWMBO has been complaining my hair is too long. I asked her yesterday to remind me today to make an appointment. She was like, ‘Not really. It looks OK.’ So I said, OK, I’ll just keep letting it grow.’ She replied, ‘No, get it gut.’ So I’ll have myself shorn at lunchtime on Friday.

Oh, my gosh, people, I talked to the manager and asked what was going on upstairs, and she said she couldn’t tell me anything! I made it clear I don’t want to know anything about individual tenants, that I just want to know if it’s a B&B or whatever because I don’t feel as safe if there are random people showing up out of the blue. All she’d say is that it’s rented, and she can’t say more than that. She did say management is not doing a B&B, sublets are not allowed, and they don’t do short-term leases. What the frick?

I like rain. It could rain 6 days out of 7 year round, and I’d be happy. I lived too long in Droughtville. A guy I knew said if Wyoming ever got enough rain, it would swell up like a sponge and be the size of Texas.

I thought I had a lead on an apartment today. A friend lives there, and it’s pretty nice, but the waiting list is 80 names long, so I should expect to get a call in a year to 1.5 years. Also, my friend’s rent is grandfathered in. It’s gone up to beyond my price range. The search continues!

Definitely dicey for drivers and soak-y for us pedestrians when waiting at a crosswalk! (Dicey is worse.)

FCM, I wish the strain were over for you and FCD. I’m glad MIL isn’t in any pain and hope FCD can take even a little comfort from that.

Least favorite candy is probably Swedish Fish. I’m not fond of marshmallow, either, though it’s OK in s’mores.

My sister used to use long oven mitts to get her cats in their carriers. She has scars on her arms from earlier tussles. Poor Sadie. Also lucky Sadie to have caring owners willing to brave her unhappiness for her own good.

DOOR!

oh my, the squirrel story was soooo very funny. thank you for the laugh. not animal blessing time?

we have a 40 day mourning time. when my mother passed i went through her items, sent messages, responded to sympathy cards and emails during that time. it was interesting to see what keepsakes she kept. i was also able to shred the really terrible pictures of me she had saved.

still waiting to hear who was involved in the decor incident.

Bagged commercial marshmallows are kinda gross as a snack, tho they’re great for rice krispy treats. Some years back, my daughter made marshmallows and they were amazing!!! Who knew marshmallows could be so good!!! She even made some with strawberry flavoring. They didn’t last long in my house. But when I looked up the recipe, I decided they were too much work. Oh well…

Nurse is here and she and FCD are tending to MIL. I’m staying out of the way - it’s such a small bedroom. I did take the shower chair out to the garage. I need to clean and sanitize it, then return it to the place where I borrowed it. I’m also going to give them a check - that seat was a lifesaver and since it’s a totally free service run by volunteers, I intend to do my part to help. I hope to get it back to them by the end of the week.

My wife has blanket permission for three areas.

  1. Don’t you think you have had enough to drink? Please give me your truck keys
  2. Your beard looks pretty raggedy. Don’t you think it needs a trim?
  3. Here. Have an Altoid!

Both, of course.

Words of wisdom, indeed!

A stop on the new Underground Railroad for liberals fleeing to Canada?

You can give me your share of all those.

It’s always been red, hasn’t it? Green is for spearmint or wintergreen!

I agree with the lack of love for white chocolate and wax candies. Never cared for red licorice, either, though I do like the black. Favourite candies are Heath/Dime bars, Milky Way Midnight, and treacle toffee (which I haven’t seen anywhere in the States, though I think it can be ordered from Amazon).

Well, this sucks. I just had a zoom meeting with my friend and her husband. They’re for-real financial advisors. I sent them my budget and income and such. They’re suggesting I move somewhere cheaper and get a job. The cheaper places to live all require cars for transportation, especially if I’m working, and I can’t afford a car and moving expenses, even with the cheapest options. Actually, going over my finances, if I’d kept my car when I was legally blind, I’d be in trouble due to maintenance, insurance, and the high cost of gas.

Anyway, I’m going to have to do some mulling and such. I think I’ll take a break from posting for a little while. I know some of you have things much harder than I do, and besides, nobody wants to be around a sad sack, including me.

Thanks so much for all your kindness and support. It’s meant more than I can ever express.

You have money to pay rent?
I can only hope for handouts.
It was fun going out in cold rain today. At least I found some library books and got some wraps at the grocery store.
The express lane was run by Miss Molasses, going by how fast she was checking people out.
My phone is due tomorrow with it being shut off if I don’t come up with 15.
Could be worse.

I’m assuming you’re familiar with the “purrito” method?

(Want real fun? Get an Rx for oral squirty-Rx for a friggin’ python. The "wrap ‘em in a blanket’ method does not work, for slithery things with no legs
Yes, I tried.)

I was unprepared for the math quiz.

Yeah, I’m definitely thinking they rented for, ah, video purposes.

Dammit. And here I thought, we were friends.

Fuck it, more for me.

Ohhhhh, man. Those are so friggin’ good.

Please come back. We lurves you.

I had to adult. Do not recommend. @JaneDoe42 I did heed your advice.

  • I called the IRS.
  • I called the mechanic to get an estimate for my tires. (What is with the TIRES in the MMP lately?)
  • I called my mother.
  • I did not put on pants.

Honestly, the IRS was the most friendly convo of the three - go figure.
She was very nice, and confirmed that I am in their notes as NOT non-compliant (“I have been TRYING to pay y’all!”) so imma try to eat, and more importantly, breathe.

It’s not been a good day for me.

Oh, yeah. Ohmyfuckinggawd. When I called my mom, I could tell she was in a car.
The following is a rough approximation:

“Mom, you’re driving? I can call back later.”

“I can talk. Your father is driving. We have to go to Tesla dealer again, and then we go to E.R. because something is wrong with your father’s back.”

" … "

“Why is Dad driving your car?”

“I could not Uber to Tesla, they need both of us.” (Something about them both signing paperwork.)

" .. you couldn’t … both take the Uber? Together?"

W.T.Absolute.F.

If you can move faster than her, maybe … apply for a job there?

“What are your qualifications?”

“I can move faster than cold molasses.”
