(Old) Really? I'm starting the MMP?

Google was no help. What is?

Good evening all. I exercised, refereed another soccer game, then exercised some more, ate three meals and a plate of cheese balls and drank way too much Diet pepsi, so an early trip to the loo tomorrow is expected…and not much else was done. Expect more of the same tomorrow, do have to stop at the bank and probably make my Braunschweiger run (or do it Thorsday).

Now see if I can catch up with everyone before bedtime…

Oopsie, good news on the door; and hope dinner went well. And while I like Jummy John’s bread the sammiches are usually pretty flat and not all that tasty, IMHO. YMMV.

Cookie, a good walk and some excitement (which thankfully wasn’t too dangerous for you) makes for a good day in my book.

Hippie, thanks for the clarification.

red, nice puppeh picture.

Sticky Buns, hope you get the money you earned from them.

rocky, best wishes to Lager.

FCM, best I have been able to get from the stationary bikes at the gym is about 135bpm and it’s usually lower than that.

Coppertone, that guys moves fast…and 45 rolls of toilet paper will last me until the end of the year.

doggio, point taken, this nation would be bonkers if we had to vote every few months.

JtC, what is an “Oort Blanket?” I’ve heard of an Oort Cloud (astronomy) but not a blanket. (I see shoe is also curious)

VanGo, enjoy the new phone.

And that’s got me close to 10pm, so I’ll catch up more tomorrow and look to head off to bed. Take care all.

You’d be surprised at how many decent phones we have returned for claims that are listed as won’t charge. Rooting around the port with a sim tool and sometimes some compressed air to clean out the pocket lint or purse dirt usually has them up and running.

Could you use the night settings on your phone camera?

Yay!

I bet lights would be ok~here in Lincoln lots of excitement last year when a group?gang?troop? was discovered on East Campus of the University, a mile or so from my house. Thousands of folks coming and going, lights on and off, cars and bikes zooming around. Smart of those 4 little fellows to pick the Arboretum of a land grant university, at the College of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources to colonize. Quite the buzz here since it is the outermost range of the Southern Flying Squirrel. Architecture students were designing SFS nesting boxes, people were building boxes around town in hopes of promoting more SFS and it has worked! They are being spotted around town. Cute little guys too.

Here’s the University page about your Southern Flying Squirrels who are now also our Southern Flying Squirrels. Poke around and open up the plans to building nesting boxes of your very own. I bet you could find someone close to home who would be sure they were firmly enough fastened to a tree.

Did I go over Monday? I think I did. So today…

We stayed close to home base today. We went to Copalis Crossing to check out Native Beach Art – chainsaw sculptures. Nice work, but the pieces were a bit large for us. The chickens were somewhat friendly. (At least they approached us to forage.)

Next we went to Pacific Beach to walk on the beach and look for sand dollars. We didn’t find any. Mrs. L.A. took a good picture of my as I walked ahead of her, my footprints shining in the low Sun. We prowled around Pacific Beach after that, just looking at houses, then went to Seabrook. Seabrook is the posh area. We stopped at Frontager’s Pizza Company for lunch. I had a negroni and red wine, and The Missus had a Prosecco.

Back to the house. We both took naps. Mine was only about 20 minutes, but it was fine.

We watched Chocolate (2000) on DVD, which I’d never seen. We were going to watch The Bucket List, which my wife hadn’t seen, but… Well, the first bad sign was that there was no printing on the DVD. I put it into the player and got a Casablanca-style anti-piracy PSA. I flipped the disc and got the same thing.

It’s just as well, though. We need to get up early because we’re heading up to Neah Bay tomorrow… a four-hour drive.

Fun fact:

https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/article/flying-squirrels-fluorescent-secretly-glow-pink

I was recently reading about nest sea turtles and red lights. Unfortunately it’s a myth. :frowning:

I can identify with all that. But keep up with the exercise. My shoulder will never be quite what it was but it has improved very much with exercise and regular activities. And my hand is letting me crochet again, albeit slowly.

After your first mention of this I scrolled down quickly to see what was going on. There was shootin I heard in my neighborhood about 4:00AM Tuesday. Don;t know if anything came of it.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave,

Minor Leauge Hockey team name!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/48f with a predicted high of 14c/56f, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “This is probably not a good fucking beach day.” Maybe not if you’re here, but for flyboy it might be very different.

No, he has to wait until the next academic year. He’s already missed almost half a semester’s teaching and that’s too much catching up, especially for a final year student. He also can’t afford to fail anything either because he’s already got fails in previous years so he needs all the credits he can get.

You have a twisted mind. That’s why I like you.

Things like that make me glad I live here rather than there, where we don’t have guns lying around at home.

I feel the same, I know women were treated very badly but it didn’t really sink in until I read this. The various provisions for the poor were an interesting read though, there was a lot of good info in there about how they actually managed to survive day to day.

Nothing exciting in my day so far, the trip to campus was aided by a late-running bus and a delayed train but I still managed to get here on time after a quick scuttle through the Big City station.

The ADHD squirrel is working from home today so I’m chairing her 9am meeting so I’ll be keeping that short and sweet. We have postgraduate exam boards going on today but I don’t need to be involved in those, and then a School Forum this afternoon. So another day when very little actual work will get done.

My friends are back from their break so we should be out at the pub tonight so that will be nice, and it will mean I’m not at home listening to 'im indoors grumbling about the clearance application process. He started it yesterday but since he’s had clearance before, he needs to provide quite a lot of info about that, which of course he can’t find because he’s not that organised. Apparently suggesting that he put all of that in a document and email it to himself is not the right thing to say…

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. ‘Tis 56 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 83 and N.O.S. We shall procure provisions this mornin’. The rest of the day we shall be our RDOS selves. I should see about my laptop. Or not. I shall attend the Wednesday sup and stuff over to the church house this evenin’.

Cookie glad the shooter got caught.

VanGo yay for new phone! May it behave itself.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Oh woe!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!z

For?

Sounds like a 5K!

Annie and I are sitting here having QPT (quality poodle time). When my mom gets up I’m going to try to get a grasp on the mess in the kitchen.

Good morning!

It’s 39F and cloudy outside. Early, cloudy skies will be followed by partial clearing and a slight chance of a rain shower, and the projected high temperature is 56F.

I jinxed my time off, damn it. I received an email yesterday from someone wanting to go over space planning and floor plans for one of our offices. Of course, he wants to do it on Thursday, the day I had scheduled to take off. Worse, he wants it to be an afternoon meeting. If it were just me, I’d say suck it up, buttercup, I’m not available until Monday, but there are two other agencies involved. I will try to push for Monday, but I don’t have much hope. If I can’t do that, I’ll ask to make the meeting as early as possible. I don’t want my day off busted up by work meetings.

VanGo, I’m glad your new phone arrived. Yes, learning new phones is sometimes bumpy. I had used Samsung phones for years, so when I got my OnePlus 7Pro, it was a couple of days’ learning curve. I like it much better than Samsung. Sadly, I will have to replace this phone soon. I can charge it up, but the battery life is short and dying.

Sticky Buns, I hope you receive your money.

If this country went to a system that required constant elections, I would have to move to someplace far away. I’m just sick of it all. I received my ballot, and I will spend the weekend researching some things I’m not completely up to speed on. Then, I will fill it out and drop it off.

I need to finish my coffee, finish loading the dishwasher and get my work day started. I’m sure it’ll be another day filled with problems to solve, employees to calm down, cats to herd, snakes to beat away, etc.

I’m hoping you all have a good day.

I’ll keep this in mind - thanks! Tho more often than not, my phone is in the purpose-made pocket within my purse. Or on the table next to my recliner, but occasionally it goes in my pocket.

That’s like moving to a new place and trying to figure out where the silverware will live!

We occasionally hear shooting around here, but since we live in the boonies, it’s not too unexpected. I don’t know if it’s hunting season, but the shots sound awfully close, tho not in our neighborhood. I’m going to assume someone is shooting targets in their yard, as I’ve never seen reports of blood and violence in the local news.

I dunno - if you dress appropriately and like to walk in solitude, it’d be great!

I’ll be making a Food Lion run myself. It’s the start of a new week of sales, plus there was some stuff that Aldi didn’t have. Canned Cokes are BOGO, and while that’s not my preference (I like the bottles better) I need to add to our stash. FCD has been slurping down a lot lately.

He was a mess last night. When his mom got up to go to bed, she was so shaky. Oddly, she didn’t protest very much when I was helping her yesterday, and she actually told me what she wanted to eat rather than trying to follow me into the kitchen and “help.” But I heard her coughing this morning, so she survived another night. Oh how I hate this feeling of being on a death watch…

OK, other than the trek to Food Lion and another half hour on the bike, I have no actual plans for today. No clue what supper will be - must think on that. (Can you do something with pulled pork other than serve it on a bun? I was thinking over rice?) And the aide will be here for MIL’s shower. Just another day in paradise, I guess.

My two latest lap blankets:
Imgur
Imgur
They’re spread across my recliner - my crocheting seat. I’m partial to the gray one - it’s an original design. Actually, both are originals. I’ll be giving both to Jessica when she comes today. The current blanket is a nice design (from a book), but more slow-going since it’s all single crochet. But it’s going.

I was looking at knitting patterns, and I’ll look again, but I’m not finding any that I like that don’t seem to be too complicated. Not that they’re too hard to make - it’s just that they’d take longer, and I’m trying to churn these out before it gets much colder here.

My order from JoAnn’s is being delivered today - yay, more yarn!!! I can plan more blankets. I’m hoping I’ll have enough for 8 more blankets, then I’ll find something else to do. Plus by then it’ll be Thanksgiving and I’ll have other things on my mind.

Some months back, I booked 3 nights at the Holiday Inn we like in Ocean City. It’s mid-week and will include my birthday in January. The booking can be canceled as late as 3 days ahead, which was important, since we have no idea if we can go or not. So that’s still a possibility, maybe. Same for the cruise I booked for 2026 - I’ll have time to cancel if MIL is still hanging in there. That sounds so cold and gruesome, doesn’t it?

But it’s a beautiful day, predicted to be close to 80, so time for happy thoughts.

Happy Wednesday!!

I am sitting out on my driveway with the smoker up to temp. I put an 8lb (3.6 kilo) bone in pork shoulder roast on about 45 minutes ago. Tomorrow is my annual fishing trip to the Ozarks and this will be for lunch sandwiches. I look forward to this all year. Due to my medical issues I will most likely be fishing from the bank but I am packing my fly rod and waders just the same.

[quote]Many men go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after --Henry David Thoreau[\quote]

Yesterday was an extremely blurfy day. I knew going in that I wasn’t feeling great, but things got worse & worse as the afternoon went on. I’ll spare you the details but let’s just say I wasn’t keeping down water.

Thank GAWD one of the others was willing to swap with me, so I’ll close for her tonight.

Got home & almost immediately crashed - I was asleep sitting up in my chair before they would’ve started cleaning the line (on of the 1st closing duties, generally started two hours before close).

Get this - the guy who quit last week came back. S.M. told me she had a good, long talk with him - I’m too wiped to go into all the details - but at least we weren’t super short handed on top of it all.

But one of the things that touched off the whole kerfluffle with him was how much time he was spending in the bathroom. Well, yesterday that would’ve been me - already was - and that’s not setting a very good example!

But mostly, I felt like death warmed over.

Anyway, I finally made - and eat, and kept down - a pot pie, then went to bed ferrealz. Piled on too many blankets and woke up sticky with half-dried sweat, plus a headache, but at least my guts have settled down.

I hope you have a truly lovely time.

Alright, let’s see if I can sleep more. Maybe the headache will go away. There’s supposed to be rain coming in today - it’s quite windy - and I’ve turned on the fan & kicked off the heaviest comfortor, so hopefully no more sweat-fests.

Hope you have a great time and catch what you want to catch. My dad, ever the comedian, would always ask fishermen “What did you catch, besides a cold?”

A funny fellow, my dad…

{{{shoe}}} - hope today is better, poor baby!

I’m showered and dressed, waiting for the text from Jessica. FCD is heading to the boat to install some equipment. MIL is sleeping and talking to someone. She came into the living room, had her meds, then fell asleep, I brought her toast and coffee, woke her, and she fell back to sleep. Fifteen minutes later, her toast and coffee were cold. I nuked the coffee, woke her again, and after having half of each, she fell asleep again. We’ll see if she can stay awake thru her shower.

FCD doesn’t plan to be at the boat all day, so I should be able to go to Food Lion this afternoon. For now, tho, it’s crochet time and my recliner beckons…

Good morning all. Another beautiful Fall day in N. Ali-bama, it’s 59F heading to 84F by the afternoon and not a drop of rain in sight. Need to do some banking and then may make the run over to the store that has my favorite brauschweiger (about 18 miles away) and get stores until Thanksgiving. Swimming and sauna will occupy some of the afternoon and reading and internettin’ will do for the rest.

{{FCM}}, sorry that you and FCD are having to sit there wondering when a loved family member is going to die in your presence. Can’t be easy on you. Hang in there and keep on knitting those beautiful blankets.

BBBoo, thanks for the story of the squirrels and University. was nice to read on an early morning.

Flyboy, enjoy the time out. And Chocolate is one of my favorite movies, rather slow-paced but beautifully filmed and acted.I think your wife will enjoy The Bucket List, Nicholson and Freeman work well together, IMHO.

{{shoe}}, hope you’re feeling better for a closing shift tonight. Rest well.

Goes well with our Minor League baseball team (The Trash Pandas).

boo fae, thanks for the update, sounds like the young man needs to buckle down and take on some responsibility. Hope the pub meetup was nice.

Taters, hope the other groups can compromise with you and adjust the meeting.

Hippie, enjoy the trip and catch many fish!

And onward into the morning. Bank doesn’t open for another 30 minutes, so will watch Good Mythical Morning on the You Tube to fill in the time. Have a good Hump Day all.

Shoot, I look forward to your fishing trip every year~I love thinking about you doing something you love with special friends in a beautiful place. Sounds just about perfect.

Here’s hoping the headache and blurfy went utterly away and Monkey did his part snuggling to ramp up the quality of your sleep.

It’s gloomy and gray here too, but not windy. Good reading and cat cuddling weather, Moxie is standing insistently on my lap, purring mellifluously to remind me of my duties. Jowl skritching and head rubbing are in progress. I hope she’ll let me up in a couple hours to go teach my refugee literacy class at the library.

Yesterday I spent hours in ‘customer service’ hell trying to clean up a fraudulent charge on the bank account that I need to use to pay my mortgage in a few days. A la FCMooooom’s card skimming travails, it’s a mess since I don’t know where or how it happened, so closing that card and going through that mind-numbing process of setting up all those niggling little auto-pays again and praying I don’t forget one and get late charges. I also have to physically go to a branch and pick up a temporary card in person. Sheesh, probably involves putting on a bra, long pants and shoes that match. The alternative is waiting 10 days to two weeks for a new card to show up in the mail when I have exactly 7 days to pay the mortgage on time. Nope, bra and I’m-a-real-adult clothing costume it is.

End of whine. Time for next cup of coffee. Said getting up to walk to the Keurig will annoy the cat but she’ll forgive me if I let her take over my lap when I sit back down. Head-butting the coffee mug to slosh some on my jammies to show her annoyance is likely. I try to buy only clothes that won’t show coffee sloshes-which limits my sartorial choices considerably. It never ends

Nelson and I are having QDT (quality doggy time) too. I love it as much as he does.

If your phone OS is still supported and it’s in good shape otherwise, you may be able to have the battery replaced somewhere (U Break, I Fix / Asurion, Batteries, Bulbs +).

Barbeque nachos. Basically, use pulled poke instead of taco meat and sauce it with a bit of the barbeque sauce of your choice. Tasty.

Enjoy your trip hippy!

Feel better soonest shoe

Slept in, breakfasted, caffeinating and fixing to get sheveled to go for my massage. I’ve also accomplished contact to reschedule my dental appointment and done KP. Once home, I’ll mess around with a new card set in the studio, including playing around with making shadowbox cards.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!
