(Old) Summarize your work in the MMP

Now that would be cause for alarm. They’re mostly gone this morning.

Fried egg sandwiches this morning, then on to exercise. The person who leads it was way too talkative this morning. I go there to exercise, not to listen to her blather. Yeah, I’m a crank.

I finished the shopping and the laundry yesterday, so nothing to do today.

Afternoon.

I decided the wounded shrub can survive another day; it was too nice weather and I wanted to go out and do something. Wednesdays n Thursdays are free entry days for people with a membership I have for an open garden I’ve been to a couple of times previously, so I went out there for lunch and a wander round, as it’s a very pretty place and I get ideas.

Also filled up the car[1] and the tyres. As the garden was selling mixed seasoned logs at a reasonable price for a big bag, so I grabbed some to be all ready for cosy evenings with the woodburner.

  1. good job the garden entry was free! ↩︎

And toe has been examined and was a corn (which to the best of my knowledge I’ve never had before), which the doctor shaved off and gave (well, charged me $20 for) a cream I need to apply to it and I’ll see her again in a month. So that is done and dusted. Also did a little more house-irk and will head for the gym here in a bit, no soccer today so not rush to finish. Saturday is looking more and more like stormy weather from that storm in the Gulf of Mexico, we’ll know more by Thursday I hope.

FCM, now can you come down this way and teach me how to make video calls? Enjoy the trip to see your Alma Mater.

Knots, I contribute once a year to the local NPR station, but in truth I hardly listen to it anymore, but donate because I want NPR to stick around. And Bob Denver did indeed play both those enduring roles. And it’s the little things like that that people will (hopefully) remember in November…

Taters, Jersey Mike’s is my go-to sub place, JJ’s is second and Subway a distant third–IMHO of course, YMMV.

JT, happy cabineting!

red, hopefully you’ll be the recipient of your package this time.

Nut, glad you had a day just to appreciate things and get logged in for the cooler times…

And guess I’ll gather my gym clothes and head on over, like I said above no rush with no soccer activities planned, so will take it easy, might get some swimming in. Have a good day all.

Since 16 Sep?

  • ate
  • slept
  • read a few books
  • fed the cats
  • mucked about on the computer
  • did the dishes
  • did laundry
  • went shopping
  • went to DMV and got my “handicapped” tag for the car

(The books and the computer were my main activities.)

I do not know what is up with my eyes, but they’ve been kinda blurphy[1] all day…and whatever’s going on is making my nose just a little stuffy. It almost feels like I’ve been awake for way too long, but I slept just fine. They’re a little red, too; enough that when my boss saw me this morning she asked if was alright. Meh.

It’s currently 12:49pm, and I’m about to start multitasking: two hours of online training will be starting in 11 minutes. I don’t really have to do it, because it’s aimed at those who are directly supporting one of our projects, but as the supervisor of that project manager and as a member of the team that keeps an eye on all of our projects I think it will be good for me to listen in. But it means I can multitask without guilt.

I wound up working later than I’d hoped yesterday, and by the time I got home I felt like reading instead of working on Lego Downton Abbey. So I made popcorn, went to the TV room and turned the 24/7 The Repair Shop channel on for “company” (at a very low volume), and read for 60-90 min. Then I put the Kindle aside, turned the TV volume back up to normal, and actually watched some shows while also playing a few online New York Times puzzles. I’m hoping for some Lego time today: I got to my desk at 8am and today’s meetings end at 4:30pm, so I’ll try again to leave at a decent time.

That’s what my father (who will turn 78 on Monday) said when his eldest child (me) turned 55 (2.5 weeks ago): I mentioned something about feeling old, and he said, “How do you think I feel?!”

Happy birthday to your son!

Heh!

That’s even nifty-er! Does doing those BIs require a license? A class or two? Did you apply for the job and then get the training, or the other way around?

(Hopefully this doesn’t feel too much like “20 Questions”…I’m just genuinely interested!)

I’m not usually one for spider decor, but I kind of love that giant purple one!

(I love the sign, too!)

Hooray for progress!

  1. sorry for the medical jargon ↩︎

Once again doing the 100 and 200 Slides, while being pulled up to the Sort Tables. There were a lot of left behind stuff, in part because the Blueberries on the 200 South let their irregs go by, and the motor drivers disappeared. Screaming O had a little talk with me and the shop steward afterwards because drivers, unload and irregs just shovel carts everywhere. Which is hilarious considering MSG. But I stopped at Teeter afterwards for a can of peas for tonight’s dinner, and picked up a pack of porter.

Roger is aghast.

I’d vote for you.

Yay for graduations!

My wife went downstairs and came up with cooked bacon, and if that isn’t love, love doesn’t exist.

That would have been frustrating!

I used to see those in AZ and don’t remember them causing any issues. They just kinda showed up one day and left when they felt like it.

That makes me so happy. Knowing you can count on something nice is always a good thing.

Ice cream after meetings is an excellent idea!

Dang it! I hope the hinkiness goes away without further treatment when this round of infusions is over.

Sounds like a great kind of busy, have we seen kitty pics yet? Give them some skritches from me

I drank a LOT of taxpayer booze for Nixon. He golfed once a week at a specific golf course in San Clemente. They stopped letting golfers start to give them time to get off the course before his T-time and when his limo arrived, they closed the doors to the club.

When the doors closed, the bartender stopped serving cokes and cheap beer for quarters, now he was giving top shelf stuff to all and sundry on the taxpayer’s dime.

Nixon looked like a sad old man, all alone except for a couple of secret service guys. And a caddie who didn’t seem to talk much.

Thanks, I’m taking a break now. Its actually going very well, but I do know civil servant lingo which helps. Someone else is helping me with Maryland now and he seemed pretty pleased with my spreadsheet system which is great. Duplicating work sucks for everyone.

Hubs brought home some 1/3 pints of Ben and Jerry’s a couple of days ago. They are so much easier on me than pints.

I hope your toe doesn’t tell Red’s toe to hold its beer. Both of you guys need to have working feet, you use them all the time.

We used to have similar signs posted on the wall behind our chairs at the check in counter, on the counter, on the front of the counter, on the doors and on the walls. One young person took the time to tape them on the back of the chairs in the waiting room.

The only ones who ever noticed the signs were other forward facing service workers.

Procrastination with documentation, you know what your are doing!

It could probably have been an email anyhow.

Allergies? Maybe use some liquid tears, the good stuff, not clear eyes or anything like that.

She had me with the first sentence!

So it was a foggy morning but its all burned off now. Hubs is going to Huntington in the morning, his bike has a slow leak in the tire that has to be fixed. I’m feeling back to normal, but all of my joints hurt so I will probably clean out the fridge. He’s been doing his best since my surgery (15 weeks) but he doesn’t see small things and it looks a little grubby.

We are both going the Huntington on Friday, he’s going to drive so I can look at the changing forest and my favorite dispensary is there. Prices are pretty standard across the state, this particular shop is independently owned by two women who support Ukraine and donate to blue candidates.

I’ve been making calls this morning and think that WV will be finished this week. Hub’s family are fairly well known and I’m not afraid to name drop when I think it will help.

Well, back to the grindstone. Those calls won’t make themselves and I’m running out of time. No Kings is the 17th and my goal is to be finished by the 12th.

red Yay for big toe infection clearing up! :tada: Hopefully second toe clears up in another week. When I’m driving, sometimes I go on autopilot and then for example, I notice, hey, I’m going to Mom’s house instead of home to my house 5 miles away.

I was watching Red Wing hockey. At the time I switched over to DWTS, the Wings were ahead of Ottawa 4-1. Apparently, the Wings held off the Senators 5-3.

metal mouse did she anesthetize your toe before shaving off the corn? Is the pain gone now?

Ate breakfast at home today. A lot of times, I’ll toast an English muffin or bagel and take to work to eat there. Work was unremarkable, except that young guy at the service desk kept bringing my printouts to me and I print out a lot of documents needed to do my work. The printer/copier room is adjacent to mine but the doors are on opposite ends. Young guy has never done that before. Was wondering/thinking about why. Not exactly sure but on Monday one of the older guys says to me, “both our teams lost on Saturday”. I wasn’t going to say a word about the football games but I replied something to the effect of, my school was supposed to lose but your team was … and left it dangling because “the other school” thinks they are always supposed to win. Then he said ‘your school is always supposed to lose’. Well, them’s fighting words. So I brought up when the Spartans were great from about 2012-2016ish. Particularly the 2013 season when we really should have been in the Natty game except that the refs had gifted a PI call to the Domers, it was the only game we lost. We had beaten everyone else, including ‘the other school’ and OSU in the Big Ten championship game. He also said ‘you guys will always be the Little Brother.’ Well that was crossing a line. At some point young guy had made a disparaging comment but he quickly STFU since I had ignored him and gave old guy the business. I asked him when he graduated from ‘the other school’; he never went to college. A bit later I called him a Walmart Wolverine and the expression on his face told me I had hit the mark with a wounding comment. As I was leaving I told old guy “In the immortal words of Mark Dantonio, It’s Not Over, It’ll Never be over.” (Ths is a quote from Coach Dantonio after some former asshat player from ‘the other school’ made an asshat comment). Then I recited the commentator’s words from a somewhat recent (within the last 10 years) game “He has trouble with the snap and the ball is free. It’s picked up by Michigan State’s Jaylen Watts Jackson and he scores on the last play of the game. UNBELIEVABLE!” Then you see dogpile of Spartans in the endzone, some student doing Surrender Cobra, asshat Harbaugh looking totally bewildered as to what the heck happened (here’s a clue for you coach, Bad Coaching). (that’s an exact quote; there’s plenty of video of this that can easily be probably googled or definitely YouTubed).

Anyway, I think young guy knew that I was somewhat upset with what was said and that’s why I think he was trying to be super helpful this morning. Old guy, who is normally very friendly, didn’t say two words to me today.

Turkey and muenster sandwich for lunch for a cherry turnover and milk.

Now chicken breasts are in frig marinating.

Time to go back to watching the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Media Day Special.

As long as they don’t come in, they can live their little buggy lives as they see fit. I was just wondering what they were and why all of a sudden.

October 8, 2026 is a Thursday. It was the original launch date of my project, which has now been postponed to Friday. Or Monday. Meh.

Weather forecast said no rain today. It lied, and we got drizzled on when leaving the office and waiting for the train. Tomorrow’s supposed to be the main rain event - hope it really does rain. Every month since February has been below average. Sometimes 60% below average. :frowning:

Hope all the toes get better. :footprints:

.

Nah, a lot of it is denial, especially if they got probation or if the conviction was a long time ago or in another state. Gotta give them props for trying.

I applied for the job and they trained me. I’ve been employed by the criminal justice system in some capacity for over ten years, so it’s just a different application of the same information. No license or badge needed, and truthfully, I don’t want a license to do this. There’s a lot to know, but there are policies and procedures to guide the process.

I will give them love and skritches, thank you.:grinning_cat:

Very interesting. In some ways Nixon got a bum deal. I would rather have him that the current occupant, anyway.

No, so there was a little discomfort but not to bad. Felt good while exercising, I am keeping a toe bandage on so hopefully it’ll heal up with the cream.

Evening all. Gym was Gymed and Chee-burger has been assimilated, might get a few more calories before bedtime but stomach is happy right now. Still warm outside (79F but the overhead fan is keeping me comfortable so I’ll leave the AC off for the time being. Need to get the garbage out, might only have a half-bin full so do I take it down to the curb or let it wait for next week when I’ll have a full bin to present. Decisions, decisions…

Herald, sounds like the life of a true RDOS. My congratulations.

Oopsie, keep an eye on your eyes…they are the one part of my body I don’t wait on if there is an issue. Sounds like you can fill slack time just fine, even if Legos are not involved.

She’s definitely a keeper. Enjoy the Clown Show…

JtC, fascinating story about Nixon; he was the last Republican I ever voted for (Just couldn’t convince myself about McGovern and to be fair, the man did do some good stuff for the US). Don’t know if I’ve seen the 1/3 pints at Kroger, smallest seem to be the 1 pint size and so far I have been very good about not finishing a full pint…yet. And glad to hear you’re feeling more like your old self, enjoy the dispensary shopping.

Catglove, interesting about the trash talk with you and cow-orker. Sounds like you got the best of him, so he’ll probably be stand-offish for a bit, at least until he has something to brag about…

Rockin’, interesting line of work, hope you post more regular and let us know how things are going.

And starting to get dark now (at 6:30pm) as the days grow shorter. Need to get the sweaty clothes out of the dryer and do a few other things, should be back for the Late night final, so see y’all there.

Howdy Y’all! We procured and stowed provisions. Then we were RDOS sloths until time to make sup. OYKW got put on shrimpie peelin’ duty whilst I made stuff. 'Twas good! Since we only do shrimpies 'n grits about once a month now, it’s more of a treat.

BooFae hope your evenin’ was as relaxin’ as you wanted it to be. Since I am a RDOS, my motto is, “I don’t want to. I don’t have to. You can’t make me!”

MetalMouse we’ll get soggy this weekend, but not as soggy as you’ll get, I think. Keepin’ a close eye on the storm to see if it impacts the Jawja-Alabammy game Sattidy night in Tuscaloosa. Glad you got the corn taken care of.

MOOOOOOM hope you had fun at Purdue. You get major points for helpin’ AuntB with her phone stuff.

Knotty you are correct. Maynard G. Krebs and Gilligan were both played by Bob Denver. I do not envy your wife havin’ to give the news about the dues.

Jasmine you have my vote!

Taters good for you for lettin’ it be known you are takin’ your RDOS perogative to not go anywhere because you don’t want to. Just remember, “I don’t want to. I don’t have to. You can’t make me!”

JohnT have umm… fun at the train wreck rally. Yes, bacon is a love language.

red hope the package arrives and is not stolen.

Mollie conga rats on your matriculation. That word always looks dirty to me.

Nuts glad you had a good time at the garden place. Also “mixed seasoned logs” would be a great band name!

Herald except for the cats and the DMV (in Jawja it’s called DDS (Department of Driver Services) and sounds like goin’ to the dentist) we’ve done the same things.

Oopsie hope you’re not gettin’ sick. You described kinda what I felt last week with my sinuses.

JtC glad you’re feelin’ back to normal. I am the fridge cleaner cause OYKW doesn’t (or won’t) see the small things either. Nice that you’ll get a chance to stare at trees and go to your favorite dispensary.

Cat_Glove I love the term “Warmart Wolverine!” I know a number of die-hard DAWG fans who probably couldn’t find Athens, Jawja on the map.

It was interesting returning to my college town. We drove by two of my apartments, but I don’t remember the address of the 3rd. We hit the campus just when classes were out for lunch - have you ever kicked an ant hill and watched the ants scatter? That’s what it looked like, but with students.

The campus looks much more crowded than when I was there. So many more buildings! I recognized a few but, well, it has been 50 years… Then again, my memories may be flawed. But it was a nice trip.

Tomorrow, we’re going to try to find where FCD’s grandparents lived. And one of his cousins is coming by tomorrow evening. So our last day here should be pretty chill. I’m ready to be home.

My sister, BIL, and niece are in the direct path of Hurricane Isaisis or however it’s spelled. BIL is in assisted living, my sister just put their house on the market and will be living with my niece. My sister is freaked out needless to say. If you pray, please say a prayer for their safety. Thanks.

That’s always been my opinion! I never knew why they came or why they left, they were never annoying enough to actually look into it and I was still working.

Water is why we left Arizona. I was dreaming of water at night and waking up crying in the morning. Rain is still enough to make me forget what I was doing and just stare out at it. We used to get wonderful monsoon seasons every year before the 2000’s, and then they went away.

I was too young to vote when he was disgraced, but I did kinda like Agnew. He was very progressive for the times and I have a broken Agnew watch around here somewhere.

I wasn’t as clear as I could have been about it. I worked graves at that time so friends and I would all rush back to our rooms to shower and change and get to the golf course by 1000 every Thursday because that’s when the gate closed. The golfers that arrived before the gate closed got to take their time as long as they were a thousand yards away from the ExP.

Us cheap ass bums would get in the gate and then be locked in so we had to take shelter in the 19th hole. Well dang.

Once the doors were closed, the classiest, most favorite golf course in San Clemente put out a buffet worthy of their reputation and the drinks were made by experts (who told us they got very well tipped by management, which means the taxpayers were quite generous there as well).

Once the doors were opened again, we all staggered out, rubbing our eyes in the sun. Then we (my bunch) all piled into our DD’s government truck and got kicked out at the barracks.

Oh, if you need to ask yourself if its possible that I floozied within a hundred feet of a disgraced president, you don’t know me as well as I thought.

The problem with eating a third of a pint of anything is measuring it accurately. My CDO requires that short of thing, that’s why I usually ate a quarter of a pint at a time instead. third pints fill me up just right though so its worth the extra money to have someone else in charge of controlling my diet!

Yeah, its all small stuff, but it adds up after a while. Plus, Hubs had to have a BIG fridge. It sticks out almost 8 inches from the counters and I hates it. Hubs doesn’t see the back of the shelves, if its not in front, its not there.

While we are in Huntington, I’m also going to go to a yarn shop and see if I can find fingering yarn that will sub for candlewicking thread. I’ll report back next week.

Reading about FCM going to places of the past made me look up my child hood home. Holy cow, half a million dollars and they still have the single pane, crank windows of my childhood.
