(Old) Summer camp in the MMP

That’s about how far the closest one is to me currently, but they’re breaking ground on one ~11 miles away, there’s a Sam’s ~13 miles from here and a BJ’s in town.

Could he have lost a whisker?

Appendages crossed.

Irked and requested another half day tomorrow. Things are unseasonably slow at irk, so I’d likely be sent home early anyway.

Not much shaking at CasaRoja. I just messaged SIL to set plans for Saturday and should hear back before bed.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Hi all - I’m alive, fully moved, and fully provisioned! Back very late Monday night I posted a quick update. To the the end of last week’s thread. D’oh! See https://boards.straightdope.com/t/old-april-showers-bringing-may-flowers-in-the-mmp/1001177/292 if curious.

My remaining tasks are dispose of some cardboard, make a couple of returns of mis-ordered merch, and hang about a dozen artworks. That’s tomorrow although I may take the cardboard down to recycling after I get home from the celebratory dinner that’s just starting with a nice Cabernet. Unless of course the celebration gets out of hand. Which is a distinct possibility.

It has been a haul, but it’s totally worth it.

I am totally stoked about all this; it worked out great. Few vexations, all the furniture works well and looks good in the rooms, all the stuff I really need came timely, etc.

And on Fri afternoon BB comes over for 3 days to fuck my brains out while I do the same to/with her. Gonna be epic.

Then when she leaves Monday morning to return to her life, my new one starts. Gonna be sorta disorienting; provisioning this apartment and moving has been my all-consuming thought process for about 2 months now. And now it’s over.

I did not read any of this thread; just been head down working from 5am to 10pm, then catch up on email, sleep 5 hours, and do it again. Tomorrow will be a day of mostly rest.

So with that Yaaays, boos, get well soons, and trouts to all as appropriate. Along about next Tuesday I’ll be able to return to my regularly scheduled programming which includes same MMP time, same MMP channel.

Cheers until then!

Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions, had N.O.L. at Sonny’s, achieved nappage and day drinkin’ and I did book study. Been home from that for a while but needed to chillax a bit. I mean, I barely had time to sloth today! The very idea!

Real_Fish a game night at a pub sounds like a ton o’ fun. Enjoy. Hope you are less sore now.

Coppertone hope you enjoyed your trip to Aldi’s. It is indeed a strange and wonderful place.

Taters boardin’ the pups seems like a good idea whilst you are gone. Surely they can be boarded separately. I trust the place knows how to deal with female dawgs in heat.

MOOOOOOM glad daughter’s interview went well. Appropriate/inappropriate appendages remain crossed.

Flyboy ummm… family. Sorry sis was such a bummer. I also hate, hate, HATE talkin’ on the phone.

shady at least it’s squishes and not fart blossoms.

Pilot yay for bein’ all moved in and a visit from BB.

Let’s start a club. I got confirmation of my interview next week and she has decided on phone vs. video. Yay

I’ve been working on cleaning and redoing things in the kitchen most of the day. I am not completely finished, but I declare that I am done for the day. Tomorrow I’ll be working on stuff for the memorial service and trying to maintain the new kitchen tidiness while I work.

For now, Annie and I have decided to relax while watching Guys and Dolls as we wait for MusicMan to come home.

ETA: I forgot to mention that my mom has decided not to come to the memorial since my parents had been divorced for 8 or so years. I wish that she would be there, but I completely understand her decision not to go.

Evening all. Been an interesting day, had some clouds but no rain and tomorrow is supposed to be nicer with temperatures up to 80F, so mowage will probably occur in the late morning (my back yard gets the sun first, then the front). Made two trips to the gym, one in the afternoon and one in the evening so mucho calories have been burned. The Big Blue recycle bin has been placed on the curb, they are supposed to come every third Thursday of the month, we’ll see if they make it this time.

Strange happening at the afternoon gym session. Decided to go out via the pool and saw a lady lying at the steps of the whirlpool, half-in and half-out of the water and not moving at all. This seemed strange so I walked over and she was lying there still as could be, but I could see she was breathing. I reached over and touched her wrist while quietly saying “Ma’am; ma’am” (the wrist touch confirmed she had a pulse), but there was no reaction to my touch or words, she was lying there like someone in a deep coma. Another lady walked up and wanted to use the whirlpool but couldn’t get in because of the lady lying there. We both dithered for a moment about going up to the front desk, then both of us lightly shook her while I kept saying “ma’am”. She finally stirred, opened her eyes with a vacant look and after a moment of confusion realized where she was and sat up and seemed just fine, talking clearly and moving around. I headed home after that, still have no idea why or how she chose to be nearly comatose on a concrete floor with the lower half of her body in warm water. Just one of the many mysteries that I’ll never know the answer too.

FCM, fingers crossed for Daughter and for your sanity with MIL and TX SIL both in the house.

Real Fish, never even thought of the price of an obituary. And I concur, those prices are insane.

flyboy, we don’t get to choose our family; in your case, if you could choose them, you’d probably trade this bunch to Sheboygan. Best wishes.

My favorite thought is that the first time you are considered a wit: the second time you are valued at 50% that and it keeps going down from there.

Dicey, good luck with the ants, haven’t had any since I got a pest control company, and nothing in the mouse traps for a couple of weeks, so looks like that problem is gone.

Pilot, glad you’re set up in your new place and that you have BB coming over this weekend to christen it right.

That’s all from N. Ali-bama. Take care and I’ll catch you on Thorsday.

I didn’t make it to Aldis today, though I went to one years ago and found their chocolate bars quality.
Me, and 3 neighbors decided to go to the church dinner, we found the woman on the bus that an ex had tried to kill, she joined us.
My loser ex ( most actually) showed up but he left us alone.
The others in our group are members of crossroads, a group that gets counseling and disability checks.
They were discussing what it was like when they were in the psych ward.
I had nothing to contribute.
I do have a job interview Monday.
Tomorrow a senior picnic ( had to register, only 60 seats) so it should be good food.
Saturday womens conference ( my church), 8 am to 3.
Went 2 years ago, it was wonderful.

Y’all are awesome.

I’ve mostly been just staying the hell off my phone.

Found out G.C. had a bad Mother’s Day, too. He said she got drunk & said really hurtful things
(Me: “same 'cept mine was sober.”)

I napped. I had a martini, and chicken with egg noodles, peas, and cheese sauce. Spot yeeted my wireless mouse off the desk.

With that much on a call, I don’t blame you.

:open_mouth:

Good. But maybe limit Mom to once a year if she’s gonna do this to you?

After comparing, yes. Thank God, having a porcupine rub on my face every morning would suck.

< crosses fingers for Sticky and FCDaughter on the interviews >

Sounds like you’re gonna need it. Have BB bring an AED from work, just in case.

I don’t like talking on the phone anyway. That’s what emails and message boards are for.

I am so sorry.

Nothing else to say but have some more hugs. :people_hugging: :people_hugging: :people_hugging:

Hubs has been doing the phone talking while I’ve been packing. Today he said he felt badly because it was like he hadn’t been helping, but I reminded him that he had been on the phone for almost an hour this morning while setting up internet in our new digs.

Speaking of which, I’m so happy your move has gone so smoothly @LSLGuy but must say that I thought your radio silence was because BB was helping you choose etchings.

Our move is still happening. I had a tall, narrow box that I was planning to use for the shadow box Dad had made. When I put the box in my room, GG stood up and looked into it, then kinda fell in. Then he was trapped. He couldn’t turn around and didn’t realize that he could just jump back out. He is a cat after all.

The dinner timer went off and we enjoyed our dinner while GG was trapped in the box. GG did manage to figure it out before we were done eating, so I guess that’s progress.

Our surplus box included three tubs of lovely mushrooms, potatoes, carrots and two pounds of sausage. The sausage is thawing so I can cook it for Hubs to eat for breakfast, I sauteed a tub of mushrooms with onions and then tossed a hunk of beef in the same pan to sear. Everything got put in the slow cooker along with other stuff. I bias sliced the carrots so I could pick them out of my bowl easier, I hates cooked carrots.

They also gave me 60 lbs of grain free high dollar cat fud which made TC friend happy.

I have a pound of hamburger thawing in the fridge because tomorrow I want Swiss and Mushroom burgers for dinner.

I’m going to miss getting a box of random produce every week. It helped kick us out of our rut.

Hubs and I think we should switch off shopping and cooking every week to help do new things once in a while.

I got shot. I went to the pharmacy to pick up a scrip. I did over six miles.I made phone calls. Tomorrow is going to be another full day. Eh, I can handle it.

For some reason, my knee–the one with the fake joint–kept starting to give out as I walked today. It started as soon as I left my place. Later, I was hurrying across a crosswalk at a traffic circle, and it gave out entirely, so I fell flat on my…ego. Very embarrassing. A kind driver stopped to ask if I was OK, which I was. I probably need to strength train that knee or something.

I have no idea what this means. The worm on the sidewalk got angry? Jello ignites at 56º?

shoe, I was thinking about your mother and the terrible things she said, and it got me remembering when we had a repeat obscene phone caller. In those days you had to put a trap on your line to catch the pervs, and the red tape took forever. Someone told me to blow a whistle into the phone. I had no whistle, but my son had a little plastic flute whose screech could etch glass. I blew that sucker into the phone so hard and long, I got dizzy. Very satisfying. Perhaps a few lively renditions of “Songs in the Key of Cut That Out!” would prove efficacious. It’s a nice fantasy, anyway.

flyboy, that’s way too many issues for one sibling to dump on the other–not that she can help it. I’m sorry you have to deal with all that.

Thank for another GG story to relay to my daughter. She loves hearing them.

its just a comment i made on swampy adding squash (“squish”) to and ruining a an excellent dinner …

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

That would have fed Spot for days!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 13c/56f with a predicted high of 16c.61f and cloudy. Weather app is unimpressed with “Loitering fucking clouds.” There’s a hint of brightness in the sky so if the cloud clears there will be sun instead.

Nothing wacky about it - you’re friends with me on farcebook, you can see the evidence

A good interview, tour and introductions? That all sounds very positive to. We’ll be keeping everything crossed for her!

I’m sorry you’ve had such a rough day, certainly being cried at for things that aren’t your fault and that you can do little about would dampen anyone’s day. I hope she manages to get herself some help of some kind, sounds like she needs it. “C” sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, especially moving to a city with people it sounds like she barely knows.

Happy new home! I’m so glad your moving process went so smoothly and you have everything in place ready to christen every inch of it when BB comes to stay

Excellent news! If it was a video, you could have brought Annie along to add extra cuteness to the call. Have you picked out a hat to wear?

The recycling collection saga continues. The council’s website assures me that our collection day is Tuesday. But there was no collection on Tuesday so I put the bin out again yesterday, still no collection. 'im indoors logged a “missed bin report” on the council’s website and their standard response is that a missed bin should be collected within 48hrs. Thus I have hauled the biiiiiiig bin out to the kerb for the third consecutive day. The idiot Budweiser drinker has left his bins out all week, and the recycling clueless clods have not bothered putting theirs out again.

When 'im indoors went to the gym yesterday, he saw a dustcart so he asked them about our collections, they said they were a new crew and didn’t know anything about it, which was when he realised they were collecting the purple bins (those are for garden waste, we don’t have one of those).

In other news, after an adventurous bus trip over feed a ferret, I got home about 7pm last night. Checked the cats were ok, got changed, and we went to the pub for Nepalese curry and beer. A very acceptable evening, and I was home in bed at a sensible time. Campus again today, it’s currently quiet out there. I have two meetings, one will be ok but the afternoon one is a dept meeting which will be incredibly boring. Also, the Palestine peace camp on the green outside my building has doubled in size since last week. Nothing happens there (apart from regular prayers for the muslim students) until late afternoon when some guy with a loudhailer pontificates for a while. We can hear the sound, but you can’t make out any actual words.

Time for a cup of tea and my breakfast!

I find I enjoy talking on the phone with most people less and less. And as Nellie said, you’re family to at least me; I can’t speak for the rest of the grumpy mumpers.

As to difficult family in particular …

Shoe: I wrote a response to your telling us of your bad Mother’s Day call. But it’s in last week’s thread 'cuz I’m a dummy. I’ll quote it here for your reference:

Band name?

around here the landline is about useful as the mail … 98 percent junk …

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 65 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 87 and N.O.S. for the day. This mornin’ I shall take care of candle and other duties and then we shall be bears who brunch at Eggs Up. Then it will be back to da cave for the first quality cee-mint pond time of the year. I look forward to bein’ on my float and achievin’ nappage. Plus day drinkin’ by the cee-mint pond. YAY!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Woe.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

I am so thankful FCD doesn’t like to cook or shop. I can’t even imagine the culinary disasters that would result in us sharing those tasks. Apart from excellent omelettes, he’s a kitchen disaster. And we won’t talk about shopping - he doesn’t shop. He grabs and goes. No comparison, no looking at possible alternatives that are on sale. No thanks. If I assign him a particular kitchen task, he does it gladly, but he doesn’t like to cook and I’d rather handle it all myself.

Speaking of shopping, I decided to sign up for Misfits Market out of curiosity. They sent me an email that my first basket was ready for my review before deliver next week. TWO DOLLARS for a single cucumber?? I don’t care that it’s “organic” - that’s bat-crap crazy! As I went down the list of items they’d selected for me, it was Nope, Nope, Nope. Then I looked at other items I could substitute - also Nopes. So I just killed my membership right then and there. I didn’t expect it to be cheap, but I definitely didn’t expect what I saw. Eeeeeesh!

We’re promised 75° and sun today!! WOOHOO!!! Sun tomorrow, too, then rain all weekend, dammit. My little plants didn’t get beat up in the rain, so huzzah for that, too! And my little 'maters are definitely bigger so they’ll go in the garden on Moanday.

My fridge is absolutely packed with assorted leftovers containers. Last night we added tortellini and sloppy joes to the turkey-and-gravy, the ribs, peas-n-carrots, meatloaf, and I don’t know what’s in the rest of the plastic. So tonight, we’ll forage. I’m literally out of space in there!

I have a poke butt in the oven - it’s been there since 9:30 last night and it will remain there till 9:30 this morning, at which point it will come out, sit for 20 minutes, then get pulled and packaged for future meals. I hope it’s good - it’s a recipe I found on line. It smells good, so that’s a positive sign, and the oven is set at 230°, so it should be falling apart when I take it out. Here’s hoping!

Not sure what the day will bring. I want to go with FCD to help him on the boat - maybe I will after I finish with the poke. Depends on MIL. She’s at it again - trying to get around without her walker, and based on questions she asks, she’s getting more and more vague. I swear, she asks Alexa the time every 10 minutes… TX SIL has offered to visit with her so my sweetie and I can have time away - I may take her up on it.

I had basement time with the grands after supper last night. Tobias is putting together sentences, often padded with nonsensical syllables, but mostly I can translate. At the rate his vocabulary is expanding, it will be no time at all before he’s truly conversant. I do so love his school! And Roxy will be there with him this summer - well, not actually with him - her program is for 6-12 y/o kids and he’ll remain in the 2-3 y/o class, but still, same place. And if Daughter gets the job, I may have to pick them up in the afternoon Tues thru Fir. We shall see.

Meanwhile, it’s my quiet time. I sit here inhaling slow-cooking poke bathed in Sonny’s sweet. Life is good!

Happy Thursday!!

Good morning.

It’s 54 degrees, dark and cloudy. Our expected high temperature is 61 degrees, and the sky will be cloudy all day. It was nice outside yesterday, but I didn’t have the opportunity to enjoy it much because of work. I was out in the backyard with the dogs when they did their business and watered the baskets on my front porch. Today, I’ll have to water the posies in the back.

FCM, fingers crossed for your daughter. It sounds like the interview went very well.

Nellie, I’m so glad you’re okay and that someone stopped to check on you, too!

I also do not like talking on the phone. I have Messenger chats set up with my kids, both individual and group, and I usually text my husband if we need to communicate when I’m not home. Sometimes, I call, but usually, it’s a quick check-in: “Yep, made it; road trip uneventful, etc.” The only people I talk to on the phone are my mother and when I have to contact the doctor, service provider, or business. And tend to deal with service providers via their web pages if possible. Sometimes, a quick call is needed and is faster than trying to do something online. However, I loathe personal calls.

Unfortunately, I have to call people for work because, again, sometimes it’s just quicker than typing everything out.

I guess I’m just a grumpy mumper band member.

My work day went as predicted. My boss was back from his leave, and we spoke three times via Teams and had the ELT Teams meeting. I brought him up to speed on the all-state meeting debacle, and he’s concerned but trusts that I have everything well in hand. I also brought him up to speed on the various projects I’m working on and helped with some other minor things.

Today is my Friday, but I have a bad feeling I’ll be working on my RDO, which irritates me. If I can’t get the PMO and conference planners to complete that contract today, I’ll also have to birddog it tomorrow.

I am TAHRED and am slightly envious of Swampy’s slothitude and pool time. I am there in spirit! I
