(Old) Summer camp in the MMP

I napped. I had a salad, Royal Hawaiian, and smoked Paprika Chicken. Canes ended their season.

I lost all interest in service once I got the Cub Scout knife and fire making kit.

Indeed.

Still kicks the can 2 months down the road.

Read all, but stuff keeps happening so I just don’t have time to sit at my desk and type.

NF and I tend to pass egg cartons back and forth, I give the empty ones to CG and he fills them back up before returning them. Today I gave NF two cartons of assorted sized eggs and she gave me an empty carton back. I have GOT to get the egg deal figured out, CG is kinda upset that he won’t have me to come and get his eggs anymore and when he posts them online, folks want him to deliver the FREE eggs at their convenience.

I’m so happy for you. You just seem so much happier now that you aren’t with HL. This isn’t meant in a mean way, but I always thought that she considered you to be a trophy husband. She was married to a man in a glamorous profession who wouldn’t be underfoot on a daily basis. She could brag about you to her lady friends, but didn’t actually need to put any effort into the relationship, unlike Bounteous Bunny who actually wants to spend time with you.

It was odd for you. For them, it was just another Thursday, but this one was nicer because of getting to pet a dog.

So today was TC and I’m learning that people really do like me. Or at least they lie very well, which means they care enough to not want to hurt my feelings. NF and I are the only ones who are at TC at almost every class in Mayer, so every week after we started the buying process for our new place, different people came to class and learned that I was moving out of state.

When I got home from TC, I found a big box on the porch that contained two bidet toilet seats for our new place. While I agree that we need them AND agree that they pay for themselves by cutting Hub’s toilet paper use down so much (IBS, he used to run through a roll a day, now it is a roll a week.), I think that he didn’t need to have them sent here so he has to carry them across the country…da jungle ships to Chapmanville…he doesn’t want risk them being out of stock or something.

I don’t really care that much, I’m just privately entertained that he didn’t want the bidets when I first bought them and actually argued with me over them due to the extra water use.

Our realtor came to visit. He was willing to fill out the contract on the spot, but he would have had to do it by hand and I happen to know that filling contracts and applications on the comp is faster and easier so he went back to his office and emailed us.

We’ve agreed on a listing price and he told us that if we found a buyer first, he would cut his fee down quite a bit. I’m thinking about putting up a sign over fence so that the people looking at that small, cheap but expensive $199,000 telling them they could get twice the home for a less than a third more in a month.

Now that the Junction is such a happening place, one gas station with a liquor license, two truck stops with another one being built, three fast food places, three storage places for both household crap and semi-trailers, along with a diner… folks want to move up from the flatlands because it is 10 to 15 degrees cooler and the commute isn’t that bad compared to Phx traffic.

Nellie, please do tell your daughter that the first time GG jumped into a paper bag, VBC had to get him out. We couldn’t because we were too busy laughing. He was just a little jerkface at the time, but he was VBC’s jerkface so she jumped in the bag with him and knocked the bag over, then had to smack him a few times to turn him around so he could see the opening.

I sometimes wonder if GG was born smart…but then remember watching his mother walking off the coffee table.

Okay, spoilering this part for the squeamish (it regards my foot)

My wiggly-loose big toenail came off today.

Didn’t really hurt, but boy was it disconcerting.

On to more fun stories …

Topping Roulette
The counter where we slice & bag up cooked pizzas gets covered in random bits of toppings that get knocked off during slicing.
Many of us discreetly snack on our favorites but sometimes it’s hard to be certain of what that tiny thing actually is.

Tonight, I lost a game of roulette.

Thought it was a piece of bacon NOPE mushroom!! Ick, ick, icky ick.

I gotta consult with authorities
Back to back calls.

Woman asks some questions, then says, “Well, he’s on his way home from work right now. I gotta call him and then call you back.”
Me, inside: “I don’t need to know your business, but okay, whatever.”

The very next call was a guy who, again, asked some questions about prices, then say, “I gotta ask my wife. I’ll call you back.”

LOL!

A different kind of call back entirely
Pick up the phone, lady says she just picked up a pizza and gives her order name.

I brace myself for an irate complaint - burned something, forgot a topping, etc.
Nope!
She goes on to say " … and it was delicious!!"

I thanked her for telling us, and that I’d let the whole kitchen know.

And gentle readers, I did!

I love getting calls like that.

Second-to-last call of the night
Friggin’ nine pizzas, plus a sandwich, and a whole entire buttload of fried shit.
Night crew at an aeronautical plant, if I heard correctly.
Over $240 worth of food.

We took the phone off the hook. But I worked with an efficient pair of guys tonight and we knocked those suckers out without a hitch.

Guy behind 'em had to wait a bit for his order, though!

I even told him apologetically that we just got a huge order & it would be a bit. He was behind the other guy in line & saw me hand out box after box.
Pulled up laughing, I was like, “See? I did not lie to you!” and he was like, "No you sure nuff didn’t. What, they feedin’ a whole football team?!’

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

< SNORK >

Quite a night, shoe.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 15c/58c with a predicted high of 20c/68f, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Today is merely fucking average. Like plain yogurt or a fucking salad without dressing.” It was misty and murky when I left the house this morning, now there’s a hint of sun in the sky so I think it’s going to be fine.

For those of you following along, the unemptied bin was reported yesterday and I hauled it back out to the pavement this morning on my way out to catch the bus. Hopefully today’s the day!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 84 and rainy for the day. It rained a good bit durin’ the night as well. Thus, today will be a day of sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’. Oh well, always nice to be inside and dry. Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit just cause.

Red yay for Nelson scorin’ another chikin tender!

MOOOOOOM It will all be over soon.

MetalMouse I win the thread? Oh wow! [ Sally Field ] You like me! You really like me! [ /Sally Field ]

JBatts weird indeed!

Pilot enjoy your weekend with BB!

Coppertone yay for the folks at your church offerin’ to help out. I buy tp in bulk, as in 64 rolls at a time (eight eight-packs) and when I am down to the last three eight-packs, I buy more. One can never have too much tp.

JtC I would gladly go pick up free aigs if’n I lived around CG. Some folks!

Shoe good for the lady who called to tell you she liked her pizza. Glad to know some nice folk are out there.

BooFae may your bin be emptied when you return home from irk.

Good morning!

I’m sure hoping these aren’t knocked on the floor for snacking… :open_mouth:

Counting the minutes till 3 this afternoon when FCD leaves with her for the airport. I had to go on line for her last night to get her boarding pass - if you want to be in the A group at Southwest, apparently it now costs $60!! I had her checked in within 2 minutes of when I could, and she wound up as B16! But she’s just happy she’s not C.

FCD was really getting ticked at his mom last night. She insists she wants to go aboard our boat to see all the work he’s done. Except there are 3 steps up from the dock to the boat, a big step across from the boarding steps to the deck, a step over the threshold and down to the main salon or 2 impossibly (for her) spaced steps plus 4 more to get to the flybridge. She claims her arms are strong enough to pull herself up. Yeah.

Then she started on how she’ll be perfectly fine for the trip to and from Indianapolis. She “knows” she can do it and she won’t die along the way. OMG, is there a more stubborn person in the world? Apart from her son, of course. I asked FCD if he can persuade AuntB to tell MIL that a visit just won’t work. Recall that UncleJ has Parkinson’s and can barely get around on his own. Truly, AuntB (she’s 80!!!) can’t possibly deal with both of them and her psycho dog, too. Of course, she’ll insist that she can.

Such a family I married into.

One more little example - MIL started to stand, claiming she was going to make herself a grilled cheese sammich. OK, she doesn’t know where my cookware is stored, or the spatula. She can’t see the controls for the stove and I doubt that she can even reach them. She couldn’t possibly see the plastic wrap on the cheese to unwrap in (even if she found the cheese in the fridge.) But she was going to make her sammich. Needless to say, I was up in a trice and made her, and FCD, their grilled cheese suppers. (So much for fridge foraging.)

OK, end of bitch session.

It’s Firday, so it’s laundry day. I figure it’s a 5-load day, what with TX SIL’s sheets, the extra towels, and the usual weekly clothes. I’m going to try to hang the sheets out since we’re supposed to get sun today. I need to rollsuck, too. And, of course, I need to put the futon back into sofa configuration.

Last night, I scrubbed the boarding steps for the boat. We’d bought then years ago for a different boat, and for the last 3-4 years, the kids used them to climb into their swingset tower. From sitting outside, they were pretty filthy, but scrubbing and some sprays of bleach water got them back to almost white! FCD will take them today and screw them to the dock, so no more biiiiiig step up while grabbing the handrail. And the peasants rejoiced!!! And they’ll sit far enough down the finger pier that they won’t be in the way of our boat neighbors, who board from the main pier anyway.

Rain is supposed to move in tonight and into tomorrow, and the weekend highs will just be in the 60s - brrrrrrr! But sun and warmth returns on Moanday, so there will be mowage next week, among other things. Today, however, just domestic chores and such. And another night of fridge foraging, because I can’t cook any more - I’m out of storage space and almost out of containers!

Onward, then. Happy Firday!! Happy Happy Go Home TX SIL Day!!! :champagne: :confetti_ball: :sparkler:

Up for my bio-break and some quality Monkey-snuggles.

Just before I went to bed last night, I heard a strange, LOUD noise outside.
I’d seen the moon on my way home from work so I assumed it was a clear night, but suddenly, it was absolutely pouring out there!

Much thunder; very dramatic.

Guess I won’t need to water my plants today!

Can you ask the hospice folls to talk to her?

It’s cute that you think she’d listen to anyone

Thank you. And you’re right that I’m now vastly happier.

You said “trophy husband” some time in the last week-ish and that was a real lightbulb moment for me. I had not considered our relationship in that way, but it makes sense. There are some women who simply believe they are such a wonderful gift to the (male) world that they simply deserve to be paid for and accommodated to while they float serenely above anything the don’t deign to deal with. In HL’s case that description would be a gross and unfair exaggeration in at least some things, and the dead-bang truth in many, many others.

I haven’t posted any pics of BB yet, but bounteous is an apt word. Whole lotta everything goin’ on with her bunny bod. Which is sorta odd; like my late wife, her bod is not the shape I’m conventionally attracted to. But it works, and works hard.

Jane, you are wise in the ways of the world.

I will second, or third, or whatever number, the notion that you might bring a small box and couple paper bags that GG can get stuck in for hours of entertainment for you both as you drive to WV.

Yeah. Good description. It just looks so wrong.

Even better if it turned out they were the same couple; both thought they were supposed to order dinner. Did they both later call back and order different things? Or the same thing? Or did just one call back? Enquiring minds want the whole story pie, not just a slice.

Congrats on getting compliments. Feels good.

FCM: Hugs. And healing vibes. Not much more to be usefully said. So much of your MIL’s story echoes things we went through with my late MIL too.

That irrational stubbornness is a lot of what keeps them alive so long. Setbacks that would discourage lesser mortals into a depressive spiral don’t even faze them; hell, they hardly notice them. Until one day maybe they stubbornly do something truly impossible, like climb a tree, and kill themselves in the attempt. Did I ever tell you all about the time MIL (then age 65-ish so fully compos mentis) fell out of her tall palm tree while trimming the loose fronds? Using a kitchen knife?

Or they just drop dead one day, as surprised as everyone else is about how their stubbornness finally failed them. Which is how MIL and my own Mom went. “Huh? Who knew they actually could die. They seemed immune.”

As to me …
The Sun rose from the sea into a hazy cloudless sky and when I got up ~20 minutes later it was just a bright red orb you could easily stare at sitting about a handspan above the horizon. Soon enough it climbed out of the haze and became its usual blinding self, but it was lovely to watch while it lasted. Approaching 8am now and NWS sez 79/26 on the way to 93/34. God’s weather in my book.

It’s been unseasonably warm the last week and yesterday’s intermittent light rain was the first rain in a week or more. Which has been darn convenient for my and my deliverymen’s schlepping. Now that my car parks indoors again it’ll stay a lot cleaner longer.

My filibustering time this morning w y’all is reluctantly coming to a close. It’s quickly becoming time to feed, and once it’s 8am, begin noisily drilling holes in the walls to hang more art. Once that’s as done as possible it’ll be a quick run for more hanging hardware and some flowers then I can relax and nap until BB’s arrival.

She’s still at work on her overnight shift right now but should leave any minute to race be home and to bed herself to recharge for tonight. We hope to go to geezer disco - they’ve got a suitable band playing and it only runs from 7:30 to 10:30, so not too late. But other interests may override, or simple stamina for staying out that late may not be up to the task.

Cheers all!!

It’s 8AM - MIL’s alarm is going off. In a few seconds, she’ll turn it off and go back to sleep. Honest-to-goodness, I don’t know why she sets the alarm.

^^^^^

Correction - I just went back and turned it off. She’s still sound asleep. Yes, she’s breathing, else I’d be on the phone to hospice.

FCD is on his way to the marina. I’m going to read till someone else wakes up.

Morning all. Up early today so nappage may be in my future. Not much on the agenda, have a U8 soccer game this afternoon but the weather is definitely iffy so we’ll have to see how it goes. Will get my Friday shopping done here once the kids are in school (one more week until they are out) and maybe more gym time. 68F heading to 82F later, but rain is around and about and will be today and tomorrow.

J-Bats, pretty sure you are right. Had the same procession (inferred by their cars) across the street from me about a year ago, never did learn who had died or from what. At least they saw one happy face (Bob’s).

Pilot, glad things are shaping up for you. And party on, dude!!

Coppertone, swampy is our arbitrator of acceptable amounts of toilet paper. Hopefully the new supplies will help. And 32 rolls won’t last me a year, but they will get me from May to the end of summer, barring dysentery…

JtC, I hope the Egg thing works out, but don’t fret it; the people involved have some responsibilities too to keep it going. Hope the property moves quickly; from what you say it should.

shoe, can’t imagine ever losing a toenail (Mumpers aren’t that squeamish, IMHO, or I’m just a blabbermouth…), hope it grows back in soon. And love your stories.

boo fae, have too look and see if mine was gotten (just peeked-nope). It can sit on the curb for a while yet.

FCM, I agree with Pilot, sometimes that stubborness is what is keeping folks alive, so just grim and bear it. And good one on the steps.

OK, school starts in about 20 minutes here, so I can clean up and get to the Kroger early before the Firday rush starts. Have a good one all.

Would a buncha pictures and short videos be an acceptable compromise?

I know she has vision troubles, but it sounds like the poor woman maybe just wants to get out a bit, dangers & inconveniences be damned.

No easy solutions.

I went to kick back in the catio about 20 minutes ago, and heard a ruckus to my right. I saw animals run under the deck. They ran under the entire 39-foot width, and a neighbour’s cat emerged from the other side followed by a coyote. I yelled ‘Hey!’ and the coyote stopped and looked at me. I stood up, and it went to the other corner of the yard, stopped, and looked at me until I went to the front of the catio and waved my arms at it. Then it headed down to the creek. Man, I’m thankful I was there to distract it or else ‘Blue’ would have been its breakfast.

This is the same cat that was rescued from a tree a couple/few weeks ago. I hope it’s home safe, and not up a tree again.

for those who wondering, a colour has finally been picked! the committee was unanimous!

before the meeting i went to the darkest part of the hall and put up every “peel and stick” we had tried at various times on the walls.

when everyone got to the meeting we road tripped to the hall. i told everyone to look at the colours and start peeling off the ones they don’t like.

they looked around, then we moved some to a different spot, then the “not that one” started. after the first one things started to really move. we got down to 4.

then we moved to the only area with natural lighting and the new trim colour. 2 more peeled off. we moved to another location, and the winner is:

Pale Smoke 1584 | Benjamin Moore

this was a colour i had gotten when the big bruhaha broke out. if you go down to the “different shades” kitty grey is the existing trim/door colour. so it is a logical pick.

whew!

johnny la, poor blue! he is having quite the time of it. you are his personal hero.

jtc, the gg stories just crack me up. can’t fight his way out of a paper bag. that poor pretty boy. i missed the story about his salmon issues. recap?

I wonder about this cat’s intelligence or sense of self-preservation.

I wonder about the owners. We let Tonka and Creamsicle roam before I built the catio, but we made sure they were indoors before sundown and didn’t let them out until after peak predator hours. (And coyotes were very rare back then.) Now Goo and Abbey stay in the house or the catio, so they’re safe. The neighbours’ cats roam all day, and I think a couple of them sleep outside (on or under their porch) at night.

Happy Friday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, bed stripped, a load of towels / sheets in the dryer, clothes in the wash and fixing to do KP / houseirk. Not a lot shaking today other than grocery shopping.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Propane tank just got filled. I’m not fond of propane bills.
