(Old) Summers of Childhood Past in the MMP

U-Haul has an option where they refer you to loaders/unloaders at a pretty reasonable cost. Failing that, you can try calling a local college to see if any of the athletic teams do this kind of task to raise funds.

My mom, brother and I have all been trying to be healthier. He’s lost 52 lb, I’ve lost 22 and my mom has lost 13. Very mundane and pointless but I’m pretty pleased with all of us!

I weighed myself yesterday. I seem to be holding at 205. I should probably step on the scale before I eat breakfast.

The Spousal Unit made Caprese salad for dinner last night. She’d eaten hers by the time I got home, and mine was in the fridge. It was rather a small salad, so I ate two avocados with mayo. They could not have gone another day.

ETA: Still 205.

My brother weighs himself every day so that he can keep track if he’s not losing. I find that stressful and only weigh myself once a week or so. I have to think his way is better because you can do a lot of damage in a week and if you’re checking every day, you can fix it quicker.

So the toe is very purple, and it hurts to walk on. And it was a heck of a day, 33 trailers, and so shorthanded the full time sups were unloading. I unloaded a 53 footer by myself, my shirt is still wet 2 hours later. I have an ice pack on my foot, and Spot is attacking it, because cat.

Safe travels, boofae and metal mouse

Being healthy is never mundane or pointless. And we’re proud of y’all.

I got a downpour seconds after i got home.

I’m getting ready for the big trip back to the States!!

We leave next Monday for our flights from hell!

From Hokkaido to Taipei, then to San Franscisco then a redeye to Atlanta.

From there, I will sleep for the remainder of the three weeks to recover.

I am looking forward to seeing my mother and my kids are so excited.

I wound up booking a car from a car share type place. Pretty reasonable rates.

More about the trip later.

I am a master of the passive voice. Nearly all of my instructive memos could be “by zombies”.

Turns out lager did not cut his lip on a cat food can. It is worse and more expensive than that!

On Monday as I was getting ready to go to an appt., I found a fang on the floor. No blood anywhere. The fang did not look whole. When I got back I checked the cats and lager is the one missing a fang. I put the fang in a vial and today lager went to the vet.

The vet believes that he has resorption. Koritza had that a few years ago. The thinking is that the tooth knocked out as the crown was absorbed. The socket did not have a root or bits in it. The vet believes that the owie on his lip is from scraping against his lower fang.

Someone has a dental visit coming up and will not be happy, neither will my wallet.

Brought the kids home. Placed a pizza delivery order for 5. Trying not to lock Tobias in his room…

Afternoon, mumpers! Arrived safely in New York where it’s 27c/80f and sunny. Weather app says “The sun is 93 million miles away. Except today. Today it feels uncomfortably fucking close”. Yes, definitely hot!

Flight was very good, not much turbulence and very good service. I watched 3 films - 65, Dungeons & Dragons, and The Pope’s Exorcist. We got through immigration very quickly, collected our luggage and dropped it off round the corner so it can get on the next flight. We are in the lounge waiting for the flight to SFO that leaves in an hour.

I will wave in everyone’s general direction as we zoom overhead!

Last night’s live jazz was awesome! So glad I went. A while back the venue shifted their set times from 8pm & 10pm to 7pm & 9pm: if I go to a 7pm show and don’t stick around afterwards, I can be home before 9pm. Last night I spent a little time talking to a couple of people and still pulled into my driveway at 8:50pm…it was even still light outside! A big downside is that it means driving into the District during rush hour (it takes more than twice as long to get there as it does to get home), but on the whole it makes weeknight shows feel do-able. I kinda wish they still had the later start times on Fridays and Saturdays, though.

My first session with a personal trainer is in just over an hour. Even though I know there’s no reason to be nervous, I kind of am! The trainer I’ll be meeting with texted me at lunchtime to confirm our appointment, which was good because it turns out they had to assign someone else to me; I would have walked around looking for the wrong guy. Heh.

I’m jealous! I used to play in friendly tournaments regularly, but haven’t played in person since before the pandemic started. My poker friends and I did a couple of private online tournaments during COVID, but when our host started offering in-person games again he switched from tournaments to cash games – which don’t work for me for a couple of reasons, so I don’t play at all anymore. I keep thinking I might post something in my neighborhood’s FB group someday, looking for a local game. I miss poker.

(and the “free glasses” raise is funny  )

My bariatric center tells us that daily weighing isn’t actually that helpful: diet/exercise changes don’t affect weight that quickly, plus weight often naturally fluctuates from day to day. Weekly – or at most every few days – is more useful for spotting trends. It’s not really that easy to do significant damage in just a week.

(Trust me: no one is more aware of the number on the scale than someone who’s had weight loss surgery!)

Yay!

Welcome!

Kids have ingested pizza. Cozmo has been fed, as have the cats. Just waiting for Daughter to get home. I need quiet!

Howdy all, safely in at Myrtle Beach, flights were fine (much shorter than boo fae’s and Sensei’s. Ended up with a Dodge Ram (Laramie) Pickup truck for my rental, I almost never have driven pickups and this is a big one, so taking it very easy. Have to walk across the boulevard to get to the beach, but it’s a straight shot there. Very hot and humid today (my glasses fogged up when I left any Air Conditioned spaces). Myrtle Beach is pretty much as I remember it, the road next to the beach is nearly wall-to-wall hotels/resorts and the next road inland has most of the restaurants, shops and stuff for visitors to overspend on. Rest of the place is more or less a normal town. Diht.d find a Fuddruckers while driving around (thought they were extinct) so that will probably be dinner tonight.

Oopsie, glad the jazz has such good timings, and hope the PT went well. And I try to weigh myself the same day each week, at about the same time and on the same scale, so hopefully my weight loss is fairly consistent.

Boo fae, if the app thinks 80F is hot, wait until you get out to the West Coast.

rocky, here’s hoping lager does ok.

vroom, would look into suzie’s suggestion. Take care of yourself.

OK, that’s all for now, need to get semi-organized and go forth and procure dinner. Take care all.

Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions, et our fried chikin N.O.L.s, had quality cee-mint pond time (along with nappage) for a little while, and day drank. A good day for retired drains on society such as us. Oh and made N.O.T. sallit for the apres funeralizin’ N.O.L. tomorrow. The bereavement committee decided on sammiches, sallits, and various desserts for the menu, which seems perfect for a hawt Summer day. Waitin’ on rain to allegedly show up in about an hour.

BooFae and MetalMouse glad your various flights have gone well. Have loads o’ fun in your travels!

Oopsie glad you enjoyed the jazz and hope all went well with the PT.

Floaty yay for you, your mom, and your brother!

vrooom hope you get settled in the new digs soonest.

Oh gawd, yes. Ain’t nobody cares about the history, we want to read the recipe and see if it something we want to do.

Tomato sauce is super easy to make and if you don’t want to can it, you can always freeze it. People really do notice how much brighter and fresher the homemade stuff tastes.

Tomato paste is also easy to make, but it involves using your oven for a couple of hours.

Nextdoor usually has local men available for that sort of thing.

Dang! Offers sympathy, ice pack and booze.

He’s a cat, so of course it is!

Dang about the upcoming dental, they weren’t cheap before the vet shortage, it only got worse when that started.

Hurray! I also didn’t know Fuddruckers was still around, let us know how the burger was.

So, NF wanted to go to the dispensary before I left for Idaho and we were having scheduling issues. Finally we agreed on 10 am today. Today is also a free produce box day, but that is usually over by 9 at the latest. Well, because I scheduled something that depended on everything going right with the produce boxes…everything went wrong because it had to.

The volunteer truck driver got home 15 minutes late last night, so couldn’t legally start driving until 15 minutes after he usually leaves. There was also a nasty accident on the interstate so the truck got to the community center at a quarter after 9. Usually, it takes about 20 minutes to unload the truck and fill enough boxes to get the line moving so I thought I still had time to make it home on time.

Sadly, a volunteer sliced his hand open on some sharp plastic and the local EMT unit was called. The same fire station shares a parking lot with the community center, but instead of having a couple of guys walk a hundred yards to dress the volunteer’s hand, the ambulance and a fire truck responded which stopped anyone from being able to go anywhere until they were done.

If I was just getting a box for myself, I would have left at 9:30, but I also pick up for someone who depends on the food so I texted hubs and asked him to entertain NF and her hubs until I got home. GG helped with that and they forgave me for being half an hour late.

It actually worked out well, NF had always hesitated when I offered her my extra food in a “are you sure you have enough” way. Now that she has seen the large amounts of food they give us, she probably won’t hesitate to ask for more than one of something anymore.

We took NF to a small diner in what they called a drive-by town (Black Canyon City, a small ex-mining town), but once I started pointing things out they thought they would come back and do some exploring. NF’s hubs is over 90 but you sure couldn’t tell it, especially when it came to grabbing the check right from under my hand. I don’t think GG could have been any faster!

They seemed to leave the dispensary happy and I did as well because I got a free 1/8th. I bought some more flower for myself, I don’t want to be traveling through Utah with more than half an ounce, but I want some to leave at home so I don’t need to go out for more right away.

Something exiting is happening, a sheriff car just went past my house at about 70 with sirens on. That takes some doing, there’s only about 150 yards from the turn onto my road.

Happy travels, all you on the road/air. And happy stay at homes to the rest of you.

Here’s hoping it doesn’t make the evening news.

Home in peaceful semi-silence. Long day! Ice cream to be ingested shortly. Early bedtime, methinks.

Hi all - skimmed most of everything, didn’t catch it all.

Wed afternoon in Mexico City. I’m supposed to be on the beach in Santo Domingo, DR right now but stuff happened. Coming home tomorrow I’ll have been gone 6 straight days except for a short afternoon & brief overnight at home.

Lots of too-ing and fro-ing amounting to not much, but got a couple thousand folks moved from here to there. Most even on the same day they expected to move.
