Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 12c/53f with a predicted high of 13c/56f, and scattered showers. Weather app says “I’m fucking sorry to tell you that it’s going to rain on your fucking nachos. Or maybe I’m not sorry.” Definitely soggy out there, and apparently we also have a weather warning for persistent heavy rain.
RealFish congrats to CtE on the graduation - what’s next on the road to global domination?
nellie sometimes you need to use “the voice”…one of my friends has a wonderful tone that we know as her Greater Manchester Police Voice.
Mooooom in a way, Uncle’s illness is a blessing if it means MIL will have to rethink the trip, it doesn’t sound like she should be even considering it and FCD should really put his foot down and just say no to her. Feel free to continue whinging and ranting on here though, that’s what we’re here for.
Coppertone let’s hope this interview works out better than the rest!
Swampy shall I send over some ninja spiders to train your laundry?
I am pleased to report that our bin got emptied on the right day, just after 10am, so there was no need to report anything to anyone. 'im indoors is happy that it happened on the correct day, and will most likely be keeping tabs on next week’s collection as it’s recycling, and we have another bank holiday on Monday.
In other news, the “peace camp” across the way from my office is still there, and we think it’s grown by about three or four tents. It’s very wet out there so I would not be at all surprised if the tents are empty and the students have gone home to warm and dry beds, and hot showers! It’s pretty miserable out there but I’m happy enough because it’s not so hot today.
Mornin’ all. It’s a bit after 6 and I’ve been balconatin’ and caffinatin’ for about an hour now.
Making great gouts of progress on the finishing touches of my pad. I’ve got breakfast out and a doctorin’ checkup first thing after impending shevelment, then I’ll come back here, spend about 90 minutes hanging another hunk of art that arrived yestiddy then I “ought” to be done with irking on the pad until Tue when the next (and planned final) art hunk shows up. So I should have all the tools put away and the place ready for pix for y’all this afternoon.
On Mon late afternoon ex-roomie Mike and two pilot pals came by to inspect my digs. They liked my pad. Then we went out for a high end pub crawl nearby. Much bourbon was consumed. I think. Finally stogies were had and the night declared a success. Between walking to/from my pad and from hangout to hangout and them ubering in and out, no road hazards were created in the making of this jaunt.
Tue was Taco Tuesday so I went to the nearby craft taco place HL & I used to frequent on Tuesdays. And at about the same time we usually went. I had my eye peeled for her, but she did not appear that I saw. I wasn’t exactly seeking an encounter, but just observing her, and ideally having her observe me, hanging out in the same area would be good. I think in her ideal world she’d be able to declare this zip code off-limits to me. Not gonna happen.
Although if she did hit him he’d be laid out flat as a …
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 66 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 86 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. We shall procure provisions this mornin’ and then have
N.O.L. at Sonny’s it bein’ their Wednesday Founder’s Day special poke day and all. Nappage and sloth shall occur this afternoon and I have book study group tonight over to the church house.
Real_Fish conga rats to CtE! Also, you do look quite snazzy in that dress!
MetalMouse you are the definite front runner for this week’s TMI award.
BooFae glad the bin emptyin’ folk got their act together this week. My collection day is on Moanday, but will get delayed until Tuesday because of next week’s Moanday holiday. I’d be fine at the “peace camp” until I got hungry, or tired, or sleepy, or needed a shower. I wouldn’t last an hour.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Oh woe and despair!
Waiting for the alarm to tell me it’s time to go get blood drawn. Since it’s a fasting test, I’m drinking water only - I need to be very hydrated as I have only one vein that works and the plumper it is, the better. After, I’ll run a few errands down that end of town for cat food, cat litter, dog treats, and maybe some petunias for the front porch planters.
Today is shower day for MIL - not sure when the aide will arrive. And mid-80s are forecast - I’m hoping we can avoid turning on the a/c. It will cool to the 60s tonight.
I’ll plant the stuff I bought last night. Not sure what else the day holds. Perhaps an adventure awaits?
Morning all. Looks like another nice day with a high near 87F, so just depends on how early I decide to turn the AC on. No soccer games today to referee, so will probably try to get some gym time in and, heaven help us, some housework.
Sorry, swampy, about the TMI, but you decided to peek…
flyboy, glad you don’t have to do that commute that every day, that’s a lot of time on the road.
nellie, I cracked up on “Don’t mess with me, bowser. I taught freshman.” line. I still call my loud, booming vocals (which I only use only occasionally) my 'substitute teacher voice."
boo fae, stay dry. The Weather Wizards here are showing a 50% chance of rain from Thursday to next Tuesday here, so looks like wet times in N. Ali-bama.
Pilot, be interesting to see if you should ‘bump’ into her at one of the places you both like; I concur, no reason to change what you like just to avoid seeing her.
FCM, happy ‘feed the vampire’ day.
OK, need to get about things. All y’all have a good one.
Oh, and a couple more dopey minutes from the Rat; Booked a hotel on my trip in June for the same days in May, the hotel has re-booked so we’ll see if I get a refund from Hotels.com. And couldn’t find an amount my credit cardf was charged by Amazon, after some investigation figured out the cost of some items I bought (referee shirts) had been split due to different delivery times…so all good, just had to get my brain cells to start working this early.
We spent all day yesterday vacuuming up water. Every single towel in the house was used to sop up more as we were vacuuming. The carpet is still pretty damp and we have a bunch of fans helping the drying out process. The carpet in the exercise room will be the last that dries up. The treadmill and the elliptical are gym quality and too heavy to move.
Last night was predicted to be severe weather, you know, hail, thunder, tornadoes, get in the basement thing. I canceled going to the barn to watch Riley ride Ariel in her lesson. Riley is riding Miss A while I am on the DL. Of course nothing happened. I was beyond annoyed. I’m no longer going to listen to the Chicken Littles about the sky falling.
I have my ”don’t make me use my ‘night nurse’ voice” voice. Learned it at Boston City Hospital, home of the Saturday night gun and knife fight club ER, in 1984. Effective with adults, less so with wee grandchildren.
I have so much sympathy for you and your lovely bride~hang in there and come back early and often to rant and fuss, you’ve earned it.
Yesterday the guy said he’d be in til 3.
I got there at 11ish. The woman said fill out the application and he will call you, someone called off so he can’t talk today.
But she was nice enough to give me a small side for free.

I’m a little afraid to jinx things, but it seems that my workload might finally be back to “normal” …at least, for the rest of the month…which means having breathing room during the day to do other stuff. Like post here. And today my boss, the senior customer, and my direct report are all out of the office. Woot!
I have a volunteer-related meeting this evening, but it’s the one I facilitate for my committee so it will be short/painless. And my team knows that I’ll only wait five minutes for others to join the Zoom: if it’s just me at 7:05pm, I’ll end the meeting and go back to my couch. I like my committee members, and there are a few things we could discuss, but frankly I’m not sure whether I’m hoping for others to show up tonight.
I raced through the first half of the book I’ve been reading, but then suddenly became weary of the author’s writing style. The increasingly-tortured similies and poorly-developed love story started wearing thin, so I set it aside…but I’m still kind of interested in the “mystery/sci-fi” parts, so I’ll likely go back to it before starting something else. In the meantime, though, a new season of The Parisian Agency (French title: L’Agence) is available on Netflix! Hourra!
I’m taking Friday off and Monday is a holiday, and I am so looking forward to the four-day weekend. April was fairly stressful (visiting an aunt in hospice, having to fire an employee, etc.) and May is just starting to settle down, and June is shaping up to be a month-long exercise in controlled chaos:
I have a new hire starting: his initial training period will involve both of us being in the office for a few days, and even after that I’ll need to focus on him for a while
I have volunteer events on two of the Saturdays
I’m going to NJ for a 4-day trip, which I’m looking forward to but it means boarding my very old doggy…which will stress me a little
Our senior customer will be visiting our office (to take stock of the government equipment we obtained pre-pandemic)
One of my BFFs has a birthday, and he and his wife (my other BFF) have their anniversary five days later
Several of the teams at work are planning in-person workshops on various days, and I’m planning to be in the office for as many of them as possible (for the face time)
I’m sure that Father’s Day will mean a trip to/lunch in MD
After this Friday’s trip to DC with my dad, the rest of the long weekend should be pretty quiet: I intend to appreciate it!
Woo hoo! And, funny: my new hire also starts on June 3.
I generally don’t play the crossword (only Connections and the Spelling Bee), but I just took a peek at yesterday’s clues: I’m guessing the answer you’re referring to is “saint”?
For some strange reason I had the thought that Gonzo (Muppets) played Pomp & Circumstance on the kazoo. And I thought I would find it in the great world wide web. But it doesn’t seem to exist. The thought counts, right?
Anyway, congrats to the grad!
In other news, work wasn’t great due to a combination of things, and my digestive system is out of sorts as well. So I think I’ll vege on the couch with the boob tube.
