(Old) Thank God It's Frood Day - A Hoopy MMP

Congrats to CtE!

Happy birthday hippy!

Irked up front all day today doing pre-grade. Given a day and a half away from my usual spot, I’ll be back to my desk tomorrow. One of the phones that came in was a nice looking iPhone 15. It had a note attached to it that it would only power up if you put it in the freezer (written in pink marker on a paper towel). The reason that it wasn’t powering up was that the battery was dead. I charged it enough to put it through the process and it worked for me. We’ll see what happens when it’s processed.

I have a warm reddish dog in my arms, given that we’re getting thunderboomers. Poor baby!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Did I read that straight? The phone had a dead battery, and the owner thought putting it in the freezer was the answer, not putting it on a charger?

I think my brain just locked up trying to process that much stupid.

My take on it was that the battery was low and for whatever weird reason, she put it in the freezer, which slowed down the discharge. Why she didn’t think to plug it up, I’ll never know. That’s the kind of stuff that keeps us in business. She’ll pay a $200 deductible for the replacement, we’ll give it a thorough inspection (we have a manual process for the beginning of that, then it goes through a big, multi-faceted machine that tests stuff we humans can’t and, given that it’s an Apple product, the machine updates the software to the latest update), then kit it out to fulfill another claim.

Evening all. Went to the gym, watched some European soccer (Europa League Final), and let the dishwasher do its thing and put all the dishes away. Will head to the kitchen in a bit for the weekly Cheeburger and also check the mailbox, and that should take care of my activities for the day. No rain here, must be staying north up by red (just looked at Weather Underground and I might get some rain around 10pm, but no T-boomers).

hippy, hope the cleanup is going well. Keep the fans on it, mold might find that a good place to be. And I’d say have a Happy Birthday but floods don’t care about those things (but heck, I do, so Happy B-Day anyway!!)

wet one, been there, done cussed the weather folks out that.

Oopsie, appendages crossed that the workload becomes more manageable for you. And enjoy the rest of May, June doesn’t sound like a whole lot of sloth is in your future.

red, I’m pretty sure I’m the biggest Luddite here and I know to plug the &*(^&^ in.

OK, time for the Cheeburger. Take care all.

Thanks for bringing up a funny memory.

Happy birthday, hippie!!

You’re welcome. Used to have a restaurant here called Cheeburger Cheeburger, part of a small chain that has pretty much disappeared (Wikipedia says they still have 3 locations in the USA and one in Saudi Arabia). I remember they had a promotion if you could eat their 1lb chesseburger and fries in 30 minutes, they’d post your picture on the wall.

So…cheeburger has been eaten and is being assimilated, mail has been retrieved and is waiting to be shredded, and am considering putting the garbage out, but think I will see if I can beat the truck tomorrow morning.

The receptionist where I worked had a son who owned a place in L.A. called Meaty Meat Burger, which I thought was a great name. It had a fire, and he opened a new restaurant at the same location: Mo’ Better Meatty Meat Burgers.

This article doesn’t mention a male owner, nor does it say the original place had a fire. But that’s the way our receptionist told it.

Before life happens, I want to drop in and add my praise to CTE and my birthday wishes to hippy.

I am so sorry your home flooded, hippy, I hope you didn’t lose too many precious things.

I’ve been so cracking up at this, thanks for the stress reliever!

Yesterday TC friend came over and took my 6 foot tall lavender plant that has been there since the spring after we moved in. It has outgrown several pots over the years and I had repotted it two years ago. The poor thing was so root bound that it took three of us to pull the escaped roots out of the ground, TC friend wrapped the roots with one of our rag towels and is going to cut the pot off of the plant and then put it in the ground. I am happy for the plant.

I was really surprised about how upset I was when it was gone. I am looking forward to our new home, but we spent so much time and effort and money to make this place perfect and my yard looked so bare that I ended up crying and eating Cherry Garcia ice cream covered with Irish Cream to cheer myself up.

Hubs melted down today. He’s so scared that the housing market is going to collapse in the next two months and we won’t be able to sell this place for what we need to get. Happily, our housekeeper arrived and I was able to take him out for lunch and tell him what I’ve been seeing in the local news re the housing market.

He’s sure the economy is going to collapse any day now and we will end up with no savings and two homes we can’t afford. If I ever come across Tucker in the wild, I will end up in jail for a very long time.

Howdy Y’all! Home, actually been home for a while but needed Netflix and chill, from book study. Today was a bzzy one for da bear. OYKW procured provisions whilst I mowed, edged and trimmed stuff so the yahd could once again be presentable and not the worst in da ‘hood. Then we went to Sonny’s for N.O.L. I achieved a kinda long (almost two hours) nappage this afternoon. I am feelin’ drained due to, I am sure, bein’ in the heat for about three hours even though I hydrated all through out the time. I think I shall sleep well tonight.

Nellie few things are scarier than “teacher voice.”

Oh so true. I think that MusicMan would agree as well!

I was trying to sit here and work, but I’m just too tired to concentrate. I did have the phone interview today and it went well. The HR person and I, at least, seemed to be on the same page about the world of education. She is going to give my name to the principal and hopefully I’ll hear from her next week. This is primarily a paperwork job with an emphasis on compliance and working on observing things to see how they can be improved. The only downside that I can see is that it’s about a 30 minute drive to get there. Which, I realize isn’t much, but I have been spoiled by being here at home in case I need to do something for my mom.

Thank you, my friends, for the birthday wishes

I napped. At one point , Spot put his paw on my head. Not sure if it was an attempt at a Mind Meld, or just petting his “idiot kitten”. I suspect the latter. In any case, it’s martinis, and teriyaki stir fry chicken with bok choi and baby broccoli on the menu tonight.

Spot: “Challenge accepted!”

Anna Cephlic, on the phone: “what sizes of Vanderbilt do you carry?”
Me: “1.7 ounce and 3.4 ounce.”
Anna: “Which is bigger?”
dogbutler’s brain: BSOD

:partying_face: :birthday: :champagne:HAPPY BIRTHDAY HIPPIE!!!:champagne::birthday: :partying_face:

I would absolutely re-up your commissary account, at the bare minimum.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

You’re gonna feed him the Hungry Man meals his family built their fortune on?

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 11c/51f with a predicted high of 12c/54f, and cloudy. Weather app says “All of the fucking clouds can go and fuck all the way off.” I don’t feel that badly about the clouds today, it’s pleasantly cool outside which is much nicer for me.

Missed this yesterday, so Happy birthday, hippie!

Sorry to hear that, I hope you dry out quickly and didn’t lose anything precious in the Great Flood.

Because you’re so special

No doubt the user found that little gem of information on t’intertoobz…

Not much excitement of any sort today - I had a pleasant evening in the pub with my friends now that they’re back from holiday, we talked the usual rubbish, and had some very nice beer was had.

I was home and in bed shortly after 11pm, and up again at 6am for the usual feline bums and tums, then the trek to campus. The peace camp outside our office has shrunk by a couple of tents - I think the rain yesterday must have put some of them off. They will all get moved off soon, the guys will be coming to set up the big marquees for graduation celebrations, and the VC will not allow such petty things as a peace camp to get in the way of his Big Day Out.

Thus…no big plans for today, just irksome irk stuff. I set up a workflow thing for marks scrutiny in Teams yesterday and it seems to have sent something to be approved, but there are no files inside the document library so I need to speak to the person who got the approval request to see what they received. Just in case I’ve done something stoooopid, and I need to know before I set up a similar thing for my other department.

Woke stoopit early, dammit. No idea what the day will hold. We might get rain, we might not. I do want to run to Food Lion for some yogurt. Beyond that, dunno.

Happy Thursday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis < snerk > 69! < snerk > Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted hig of 89 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. We shall have quality cee-mint pond time today for sure. The rest of the day will be sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’. Actually all of that can be accomplished at the cee-mint pond. Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit. Since I took care of all duties whilst over to the church house last evenin’ I can be a layabout today.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah,

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Mornin’ all. Just past sunrise here as I start blathering and I’m about to be chased indoors by the Blazing Orb of Heat. I’ve been up since 4am (ouch) which portends a nap later. The overnight low was 77/25 and it’s expected to get up to 89/32 under sunny skies. Should be good lighting for pix later today.

My yesterday was semi-productive and semi-not. My picture hanging was stymied when I found that the stuff delivered on Tue I was trying to hang on Wed did not have the specialized hanging hardware included. Oops on them. I at least got the positioning figured out and the holes drilled, which is the bulk of the work and the most vexing part by far. I’ll be by their shop today for other reasons and can pick up a hardware pack easily enough. After which running the special anchors into the holes and lifting the art into place is the work of 15 minutes tops.

In separate news, as the total look of the place has come together I have become less and less satisfied about my choice of a coffee table. I’d picked it from a limited selection for one must-have feature, it wasn’t really all that great looking, and after I bought it I was told it was on backorder to boot. Surprise! Uggh!

So yesterday I took advantage of that unexpected and unwelcome delay to look at a couple of other stores and found a much better, prettier alternative with the same must-have feature. It’s even in stock. So I’ll have that next week, and am cancelling the back-ordered item for full refund.

At that same store I also found the last furniture item I was seeking: a small console table. Sadly that is not in stock, and the boats from Italy are slow ones. At least this is a nice-to-have item, not a functionally need-to-have item.

Finished the day eating leftovers from the weekend’s outings w BB. A happy memory.

In other domestic news, I bought a new coffeemaker a few days ago. Unlike my 5-cup mini you’ve all heard so much about, this is a full-sized 10-cupper. With integral bean-grinder. In fact it’s awkwardly full-sized for where I put it, but I’ll adapt.

Of course, I had to christen it properly by making not-coffee the Very. First. Time. I’m using up the last of my pre-ground coffee. So first read the overly complicated instructions for how to not use the grinder. And set all the half-dozen settings. Then use their little scooper to measure out the grounds and put them into the filter hopper. Then turn it on and switch my attention to other non-coffee aspects of my morning routine. After a couple minutes I marvel at how quietly the new maker brews coffee; not a gurgle to be heard.

That’s when I noticed I’d not bothered to fill the pot with water and dump it into the maker’s water reservoir. Just like every other drip coffeemaker I’d ever owned or used over my 50 years of coffee-making. D’oh. :man_facepalming:

Yep, I was brewing that new-fangled and oh-so-stylish waterless coffee. Which works … badly. Easy to fix however, and soon the maker was gurgling happily and the pot was filling with the dark brown Elixir of Wakefulness. Success on the second attempt! Yaay me!

I also learned yesterday that BB will probably be coming up every other weekend on her 4-day weekends, and not coming up on her 3-day weekends. Nor does she really have free time for me come down on those shorter weekends. Due to her 12-hour shifts that are often 14, she really needs some days off to rest, recharge, and get groceries. Plus take care of her Mom’s increasing medical needs.

So this weekend I’m unexpectedly free. That’s probably a good thing from a speed-of-developing-relationship perspective, but dayum; I was looking forward to a romp-fest this weekend. :rabbit: :rabbit2:

As to y’all / me sorta:

When I moved out I readily gave her an exclusive on the apartment complex we were renting in. At her request, and not as part of any formal settlement. I get the whole world; she gets that one address. Seemed a fair trade to me for keeping her hackles unraised.

The deal holds until / unless she chooses to move out of the complex then it’s fair game for me too. Her / our lease runs until roughly Thanksgiving so any change will be at / after then. I expect she can’t quite afford our 2BR unit on her own although she might. She can hack one of the 1BRs in there. I’d bet money that’s what she’ll do: move within the complex to a different smaller unit. But we shall see.

I made sure to tell her my new address early enough that she won’t start shopping here. Although it’s even more expensive per SF than where she’s living now so its unlikely she’d choose to move here. Not that I would object if she did, but I’m quite certain she wouldn’t do so for her own desire to avoid me and any “awkwardness”. Which exists solely in her world, not mine.

In related happy news, I got an update from the attorney late yesterday and we now expect to have a wrap on the settlement by the end of May, so almost exactly 4 months after I announced that we were done. And once we have those two sigs, we file the divorce proceeding and put this half-in/half-out chapter behind us. So far without detectable rancor. Yaay!

On my first post-cruise visit to BB’s part of Miami in late April I picked and paid for the hotel and she picked and paid for two evenings’ entertainment. Which included a Whitney Houston tribute performance in an intimate romantic setting on Thu. She didn’t notice the event she’d booked was actually in June and we were surprised when we got there and found the venue was dark on the same date in April. Oops. But we had a fun adventure that night anyhow.

So now we have the keynote event for a June 5-day trip to Miami all pre-planned like two months in advance.

Ouch! That was quite the disaster. Does that happen often when it rains heavily?

Sorry about the soggy birthday, but I’ll at least throw a Happy Birthday!!11! into the puddle. :birthday: :sweat_drops:.

I know I had some domestic disaster on some birthday over the years, but I’m drawing a blank on the specifics. Probably just as well.

Good gawd. You can’t buy a break. I’m sorry this is so damned difficult for you.

The only thing more chaotic than your own situation is the situation at every one of these places you’re trying to get a job. Can’t anyone run a sane reliable business anymore?

Yaay! And double yaays for the long weekend. Sounds like your June will be busy, but IMO it’s the chaos that’s wearying. Here’s hoping …

Me too. I foresee a nap, but sometimes that plan falls through too.

Well done there Swampy: A full day of cee-mint ponding and sloth!! Color me envious.

I now have a nice cee-mint pond (two actually), but not yet time for sloth. In a couple more days though I’ll give you a run slothful saunter for your money.

Being as sunrise was almost 2 hours ago(!), it’s well past time now to commence my day.

Cheers all!!

Well, the place I went a few days ago, when I was told to be there at 2, but she wasn’t there…I got a text last night saying 3 o’clock today.
So off I go.
Its 70 and no rain for 2 days!
