Turns out I spoke too soon about not having another workout until Saturday: this morning my personal trainer asked if we could move that session to this evening. I said sure.
I could use some things from the grocery store (which I tend to only go to if I’m already out and about), plus I kind of like the idea of truly having an entire weekend off.
I also got a text from my voice teacher this morning, cancelling this afternoon’s lesson because one of her kids is home with pink eye. I have lessons every other Thursday: we might make today’s up next week, or we might just skip it entirely. She’ll let me know after the ocular scourge in her household abates.
Last night I went to use my volunteer org’s Zoom account for my committee meeting, and got a message that it was already in use: turns out another committee scheduled a meeting right on top of it – and set up overlapping recurring meetings! No one from Communications caught it. Grrr. Every committee has a Comms POC as a member: when mine found out/told me what had happened, she asked whether I wanted to contact the other chair or have Comms straighten it out. I opted for the latter. I didn’t create the situation: someone else needs to tell the other committee that they can’t use the branch account on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 7pm. I had to start a personal Zoom and send the link out to my team, and the meeting wound up not starting until about 7:20pm. Luckily, the agenda was short. I was pretty annoyed, though, that (a) no one from Comms noticed the conflict and (b) *I* wound up being the one who had to scramble. We’ve had the same meeting schedule for 1.5 years! Lately, it’s like every time I turn around I’m being dissed by someone else in the branch (including something the president did just three days ago). On top of already feeling like I spend too much time doing the best job I can. All of which makes me extremely happy to type the following:
I’ve found someone to take over the committee in July!!
At the end of last night’s meeting, I asked one of the guys if he could hang on: he attends meetings, comes to events, and has good ideas. I confided my plans to leave, and asked if he might interested in taking over as chair. He said yes – and he seems to geniunely be up for it! He’s retired and in good shape, so he has the time and energy, and he has room in his garage for the events stuff (heh). So now I’ll be adding this transition to the list of things happening in June, but I’m sooooo relieved…and, two months from now I’ll be even more so.
Just three more hours until I head to the gym, then swing by the grocery store, then start my 4-day weekend! I’m actually looking forward to going to the language museum in DC with my dad tomorrow. We’ll each be taking Metro, and luckily the weather should be good: mostly sunny with a high in the low 80s, and no rain in the forecast.
Indeed! I’ve been a member of the same credit union since high school – my parents were members (Dad still is) – and I’ve never had a reason to leave. They only have branches in Maryland, but I moved to Virginia in '98 and can count on one hand the number of times since then that I’ve had to go to a branch in person. I temporarily joined a local credit union once that was affiliated with a past employer, because I was in the market for a car loan and they had lower rates than my main CU, but I only used them for that one loan. Other than that and having a CD with Ally Bank for a few years, I’ve never gone anywhere else.
