Mrs. L.A. stopped at McDonald’s for lunch today. A large French fries and a small coke cost $6.00.
She got a package in the mail today. Two containers of make-up remover cost less than her lunch.
I think she’s going to have a tuna-and-egg salad sandwich for dinner. I’m thinking of a roast beast-and-monster sanger… which should just about finish off the bread. (There might be a slice left for breakfast tomorrow.)
She had hers on a Carb Balance Spinach & Herb tortilla because we’re ‘out’ of bread. She left me the two slices of Sara Lee Delightful Multi-Grain bread, and I have the heels for a breakfast sandwich tomorrow.

How about a Tony Packo’s hot dog?
[/quote]
If we were in a position to make a drive down to Toledo, I’d be happy to get a Tony Packo’s hotdog for you. We love them. When Hubs had territory in Ohio, when he’d return home, he would always stop to get a 6 pack of them along with a quart of chicken chili.
Construction? Accident? Flat tire? Stopped at a bar?
Bella won’t chase a ball, she likes to go after stuffed squeaky toys so we have an octopus, a raccoon and a Santa dog. Sometimes when I throw them instead of going straight, they go in very strange directions.
Hope the nurse didn’t have any trouble with your blood draw and that it was pain free.
I was supposed to go on Monday or Tuesday as my Dr. appt was scheduled for 5/28. I called this morning while I was at the hospital waiting for Hubs to get another bone marrow biopsy. It was decided to reschedule the Dr appt to 8/2 so I put a reminder on my phone to tell me to go a week earlier for the blood draw.
I call mine my Lifeguard voice.
as in C_ _ _ s o n?
If so, you have my permission and blessing.
Belated Happy Birthday hippie!!
So sorry to hear about the flooding woes.
Not sure what or who VC is. My frame of reference, which surely dates me, is Viet Cong.
Up early (on my own, as opposed to yesterday when Daughter accidentally called at 4:58am, well 10:58am Italian time), showered, washed dishes, fed fish, drove Hubs to hospital for bone marrow biopsy, as mentioned previously called own Dr about pre-appointment labs. This time when the nurse said Hubs was close to being out of recovery and said I could go get the car and she would wheel him to the front door, I remembered to give her Hubs car color and make as opposed to the last time when I gave her my car color and make which was in Chicago at the time. Well, she had asked what my car looked like, she didn’t ask what the car I was driving looked like.
Hubs wanted to go to Rhapsody, a Hungarian restaurant, right away as he was required to fast before the biopsy. He had perch, I had a crepe stuffed with ham, bacon, cheese, tomato, lettuce.
Worked out on NuStep, washed blankets that will be put away until fall, washed more dishes, made fettucini alfredo and put fresh chives from garden in sauce. Hubs made asparagus to go along with. Dessert was key lime pie. Filtered water, took bags of grass clippings to curb to be picked up tomorrow. No need to wheel trash bin or recycling bin to curb as neither has much in. Was supposed to check the pH in the fish tank but tomorrow is another day.
There has been a lot of good info imparted by mumpers but can’t remember it all as the sponge is full. So, what I have done is start an excel sheet called Advice, etc. that I copy and paste said good info into. What I copied from you is what you shared about feeding tubes.
I’ve had my Credit Union account since I was 3-1/2. Reason: Mom had another baby and parents decided to get accounts for both of us so my sister and my account numbers were one apart.
Were you able to make any headway on hiring someone to be her companion once or twice a week?
Went out and while it was very comfortable as temp has cooled to 71*, I only saw a few planets or stars, no moon. Shucks.
I just spent ~20 minutes watching the Moon rising out of a calm sea with almost no clouds to intervene. Magical.
A good day here. Managed to get the missing mounting hardware and hung my art. Which looks very nice. Also got breakfast, refinanced all of my undelivered furniture purchases (~25% by dollar value) to the newly issued store card with a two year zero percent APR promo deal. So instead of being due in Jun 2024 it’ll due in July 2026. Yaay! Also bought some organization stuff, some groc, some coffee beans, and got some pix taken for y’all, and random stuff assembled and other random stuff put away. And I dealt with 100 lbs of deliveries.
Last was a scruffy dinner out at a local burgers n beer joint during happy (ka-ching) hour, then home to further mis-eat and watch moonrise. It being nearly 10pm now, bed is next. Perchance to sleep in excess of 5 hours.
I’m happy t hear that Swampy’s attempted slothage came off well. Yaay!
And to hear of oopsie’s various triumphs. Hint: people starting a new position care much less about a good handoff briefing than do those leaving the position. I could have saved myself several stupid-long weeks over a career had I understood this truth.
Evening all, have chased 15 year olds for 80 minutes and still am functioning, so all that exercise I’ve been doing must be having some effect. Was the assistant referee, which means I have to call offside, so I need to move up and down the field sideline with the last defender, so it was walk 40+ yards up the field when they were on offense and then sprint (for various definitions of sprint) back to keep with them. Pretty successful and I’m pretty confident I got my calls right (at least in the second half). That takes care of soccer until June 13th, when I’ll be heading to the Section tournament in Knoxville, TN.
nellie, I like the ‘time share dog’ name. Hope you get to see her again soon. Oh, and…
So could an overweight 60-something bureaucrat (at least twice).
red, no rain yet south of you in N. Ali-bama, but about a 60% chance here for Tunder-Boomers tomorrow.
FCM,
I’ll allow it. And what Coppertone said.
Oh, and Coppertone? Good luck. Your due some. And no moon tonight, the clouds are to thick.
Cat Glove, as for VC, my guess is Vice Chancellor, but I’ll let boo fae give you the straight dope.
It’s nearly 9:30pm so I need to be thinking about bedtime sooner rather than later. Catch up with y’all on Firday.
He won’t be able to eat anything after I feed him my cane, hook first.
As is right and proper!
I feel your disappointment. But the anticipation can be fun too.
You are right, it was just such a shock despite knowing it was going to happen. Most of my containers (and posies) are gone now as well. Tomorrow I will be packing our Instapot and my mixer will get packed the next day. I still need to make a couple of batches of masa, but after that, I am done cooking in this house.
(The timing is because today I put a bacon wrapped pork loin in the Instapot for dinner tonight and then shredded enough for green chili pork tamales tomorrow. Some can be frozen. Hubs can have the rest of the pork loin for breakfast meat with his eggs.
Tomorrow I will boil the last bag of chicken parts and shred that for chicken tamales, some of which will be frozen. I am going to be gone in 12 days, I want hubs to have food for a while. If he doesn’t get his butt in gear, he will have to deal with it himself.)
Ours doesn’t even make a sad trombone noise, it just sits there sullenly without even a warning light.
GG’s fountain screams when it runs out of water. That’s actually a good thing because it has been banished to the catio so it is helpful to get a reminder if needed.
Hubs drank the Flavor-aide years ago. It hurts my heart to see such a good and smart man fall down that horrible rabbit hole, but I can’t logic someone out of something they emotioned themselves into.
We have gotten very good at ignoring that big orange elephant in the room.
As I recall, you used to have to peel everything because he couldn’t touch it, but now he’s peeling asparagus on his own?!?! That is so wonderful, what great progress, I am so happy for both of you.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 14c/57f, and cloudy. Weather app says “Fuck those happy clouds”. They’re large and grey, they look full of rain rather than full of happy today.
He’s the university’s Vice Chancellor - he has a uni-provided house about a quarter of a mile away from his plush office in Chancellor’s Court (just across the way from my building) along with a fancy car and a chauffeur to bring to his plush office one day a week. The Chancellor (Lord Bilimoria of Chelsea) is the ceremonial head of the university, he pops up for graduation ceremonies and other photo opportunities.
JtC sounds like you are really ramping up the preparations for the move, I hope everything goes smoothly and isn’t too stressful all round. I’d love to move house, our place currently resembles 22 Shit Street with neighbours to match. I haven’t yet found anywhere that ticks all the boxes and is in our locality since we don’t want to move too far from where we are now.
The Travel Gods had definitely thrown all of their toys out of the pram this morning. The first thing was someone who go on the bus but obviously had never used one before and didn’t understand the idea that you need some form of payment mechanism in order to use it. Thus we were late getting into town. That wasn’t so much of an issue since the Nice Train that I like to be on was cancelled, and everything else was running late due to a bunch of thieving scrotes who’d attempted to steal signalling equipment.
I got on a train that was only a few minutes late, then they said it wasn’t calling at the intervening stop, and we went the long route into the Big City Station which adds at least 10-15 minutes to the journey. Then the train out to campus was delayed as it had to wait for something else to leave so it could get to a platform, and then trundled down the line behind the other train…consequently I am about 40 minutes later into the office than usual. But that makes my Friday workday 40 minutes shorter, right? Bonus!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and clear (saw the full moon Coppertone!) with a predicted high of 89 and mostly N.O.S. LAs is our wont, sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’ shall rule the day. We will don proper attire and go to the hog trough GC for N.O.L. to take care of today’s main need to feed. I shall stay inside pretty much today as I have gotten a lot of sun over the past two days and need to lay off somewhat. Plus the plan is to spend a lot of time at the cee-mint pond.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Mornin’ all and a happy Firday! It’s 0530 here as I start driveling. I’m up, balconatin’, caffinatin, and mumpin’ first thing. Right on cue a few minutes ago the sky began to lighten, so I’m fairly confident the Sun will rise on schedule. NWS says 75/24 on the way to 91/33 with scattered puffy clouds about. I left the place opened up all night and it was very comfy; just a hint of breeze.
The last useful act of yesterday was to unbox another “some assembly required” item. About 80 lbs-worth of “some”, where the heaviest single piece is about 3 lbs. Which entailed making vast disarray in an area of my pad I’d just got looking presentable. Felt like a big step backwards although a) necessary, b) expected, and c) not really all that great a disarray.
Anyhow today I’m chomping at the bit to get whacking on assembling it and loading it so the disarray disappears again. But “whacking” is a big part of the assembly, so that needs to wait 3-4 hours until the neighbors are awake. Then probably 90 minutes to assemble then another 60 to load, clean up the debris, and restore order to the chaos.
[took a break and started one short quiet project that now needs a couple hours to dry before I can re-assemble it. and now back to happy sloth procrastinatin’ w y’all.]
The next pending Tetris project is putting the excess variety of drinkware I bought into the inadequate cabinet space I have. It was already tight before I bought 4 each of two other varieties in the same collection. I was hoping to avoid getting a freestanding furniture piece to store booze and accessories but that may not be possible. We shall see. Yet more creating temporary disarray in the course of creating net array. [Hmm, I just noticed that “disarray”, like “disgruntled”, is one of those few English words where the version without the “dis” is just wrong & weird.]
Flyboy, it really sounds like one of those almost self-driving Teslas is just what you need. Supposedly they’re quite good at dense slow highway traffic and you could get in some pleasant MMPing while it drives. I’m not sure how much used ones cost or their availability, but it’s an idea. I’m no fan of Elmo, but I gotta say self-driving is huge and they seem to have cracked that code far beyond what other companies have yet done.
Coppertone, here’s hoping you can finally get some stability and a decent amount of hours.
ISTM the fact everyone gives new-hires just a couple of days is partly defensive. They want to see you work, and see how reliable you are before they build you into their schedule to the degree you’d cripple them if you flake. Which so many, many workers do and pretty early on. Often because they can’t afford to work such short or few shifts. It’s a self-fulfilling prophesy.
Good luck; you’re a real battler and are waay overdue for some good breaks to offset the bad ones.
Welp … the Sun is just up (and right on time ), an hour has been spent here, and it’s more than time to start my day. Cheers all!
FCM, can MIL talk to other people on Zoom or some such thing? Perhaps the cashier at Costco?? Seriously, though, is there a group of relatives who would love to communicate with her that way?
Well, thanks for all the fingers crossed! MusicMan got the job!*
*I am so glad that he did, but to start out with it is part-time and we’re still waiting for his rating and $$ from the VA, so it’s going to be a bit tight until then. But, I am glad he did it and would absolutely take it this way over and over again instead of him staying with his current job at the Mart of Wals where he is just surrounded by way too many people and too much stupidity.
The slightly inconvenient news is that we have to drive 1 1/2 hours today to get a copy of his diploma which is required for the new job. And his old high school will not cooperate any other way than in person. Oh well, nice day for a scenic ride, I guess.
No - she’s nearly blind and very technology-averse. She talks on the phone with her sister, a few of her former neighbors, and her other DIL, tho not every day. Her main diversion is using FCD’s tablet to listen to audiobooks from the library, but even then, we have to start and stop them for her because she can’t see the screen and she just doesn’t understand.
For example, the other night, she accidentally unplugged her headphones just as we lost broadband for a few minutes. She thought she broke the internet! But after she gets back from Indiana, I’m hoping we’ve got some sort of “sitter” lined up.
Wait - what kind of job requires a borderline geezer to prove he graduated from high school? I can’t even wrap my head around that.
Despite waking stoopit early yesterday (like before 3 of the AM) I could not fall asleep last night. So a bit after 1 I finally caved and grabbed a melatonin. That sent me to dreamland for about 5 hours, so yay! I’ll turn to Mel earlier tonight.
It’s laundry day. FCD is about to head to the boat to keep wringing out the electrical issues. I’ll be so glad when I can help him. I’ll probably rollsuck later and maybe boil some eggs for egg salad. The aide will be here some time today for MIL’s shower, and FCD will have to call hospice about the impending trip. So, as you can see, much excitement awaits us.
Good morning all. Got 7 hours of solid sleep and will shortly head over to Kroger and Wal-Mart for the Firday shopping. Cloudy and a 50-50 chance for rain today, but temperature is heading to the mid-80’s, so the AC will get some exercise. Outside of shopping and the usual gym trip, nothing much on the agenda for today.
boo fae, sounds like the Demon Murphy was in charge of transportation today. Glad you were able to make it.
Pilot, best wishes on the assemblage and storage. Oh, and…
Entropy always wins in the end…
Sticky Buns, Hooray for MusicMan. Glad I don’t need my HS diploma, it would be a 700 mile trip for me.
FCM, happy laundry day. I think I have enough stuff to make it to June before employing the washer/dryer but it’ll be close.
OK, just waiting for a train (on Virtual Railfan) and then I will don garments and head out to get some walking in around the shops. Have a good Firday all.
I will never buy a Tesla. I’ve read too many horror stories about the high cost of repairs, the denial of warranty claims, and poor workmanship. And I don’t want to give any money, even indirectly, to Ely Cologne.
