(Old, thankfully.) Just call it pee-pee ‘cause it’s all your’n MMP

Due to this thread, I remembered that TC friend is a licensed Hospice and Home Health RN who is allowed to give these sort of shots to her patients. I asked her if she could give them to friends and she said yes, but I would have to fill out the paperwork and give her my insurance information. I don’t know if she charges, but I will probably offer her a twenty each time because I understand that living rural comes with a convenience fee.

She did say that she wouldn’t do Covid shots because she couldn’t just order just one dose and wouldn’t be able to use a whole bottle before it expired.

So I’ll drive allllllllllll the way to town for Covid and then have TC friend shoot me before the next couple of TC classes.

I figured out that my real aversion to the trips is the whole donning of the bra thing. I don’t really mind the drive at all, there is a lot of pretty country between here and there, it is just the getting dressed thing that is so bothersome.

So, today I have a new question for folks. NF asked me to go to the handmade store and pick up some fudge for her. The fudge is made and sold by a single mom who needs every penny she can get. I went to the store today and the fudge was on sale, but of course I reminded the shop owner that I get a special deal where I always pay full price and left her with cash in her hands while she was trying to figure out my logic.

So, I know that NF will want to pay for the fudge. If I tell her that it was on sale but I still paid full price as a gift to the young mother, I know that NF will insist on paying full price as well…but I don’t feel as though she should be obligated to pay more for something just because I felt like giving a voluntary donation.

I hate to lie to friends because I’m too lazy to remember that I told a lie and usually always end up outting myself.

What say the smartest folks on the planet?

Dang about the finger shoe. Keep an eye on your nail, if you wanged it enough, the nail will probably want to come off and it is super easy to get a seriously painful snag on a partly detached nail.

I was kinda surprised the fire department didn’t show up as well. Thank goodness the boy didn’t do this a couple of years ago, he would have been so happy to see the boys in blue show up that he’d start calling every week. The mom is very embarrassed but we think it was just one of those kids will be kids things.

Why not both? Many people are like me and need to get kicked in the butt just to get up and get one shot, remembering to get three is hard. Getting them all at once insures that the patient will get all of them instead of forgetting one or more. Of course this will increase their convenience, but maybe not their sales volume. I’ve never once walked in to get a shot and not bought an impulse item (usually a booze bomb) on my way out. Three shots at once means one booze bomb instead of three bought separately.

Is dynamite an option?

That reminds me, I wanted to ask if you get a sleeper or sit in an assigned seat all the way. I’ve been looking at train rides and roomettes look like a pretty attractive option for long trips. I’m actually thinking that I might cancel my mid-point hotel rooms and take the train to Dallas because my hotel parking lot there will get over two minutes of total occlusion, so I won’t need to go anywhere once I’m checked in.

FCM, if the dragon doesn’t go to a child, please let me know as long as you won’t be offended if it ends up getting dragged around and yelled at. VBC claims all of my plushies over time.

Now we are up by 21, but the officials have called a weather delay because lightning was seen too close to the stadium. Just about 8 minutes of play left in the 4th. Not sure how this works from here.

My son and his wife called. They were taking the dogs for a drive and decided to invite me along telephonically. We had a great talk–I mean us humans. The dogs were quiet. This was Sunday’s call a day early, so tomorrow will be quieter. No matter. Always happy to talk to my boy and my daughter by law.

So don’t wear one? I mean, what are the shot-givers going to do, call the cops to report stray boobs wandering around loose?

OK, not addressed to me, but this is a one-off because of the sale, right? So you don’t have to keep your stories straight. Plus if NF pays you full price, then in effect she’s done the mitzvah, not you. That means you’d still be down one mitzvah. Just tell her it was on sale. Then you’ve done two mitzvahs because you’ve saved NF money AND given the owner extra.

Oh, it’s only about a 90 minute trip, so a roomette isn’t available and business class isn’t worth it to me. I’ve always wanted to get a roomette for long train trips, but they’re pretty pricey compared to regular coach fares. However, if you want to see the country without having to drive, a roomette would save you not only lodging costs but also meals, as they come free with the ticket.

Boo, sounds like an exciting game! Hey, how are those grandkids?

I like how you think! Definitely gonna keep you on speed dial when I need advice.

You are so funny!!!

I’m not clear on the mitzvahs part, but I think you’ve come up with the right solution because it is just a one off thing, plus the store owner just posted about the sale on Nextdoor. I know that NF is on, I’m not sure that she’s feeling well enough to be online just now though. Honesty is best. Or at least it is much easier

See, that’s my thought. A roomette to Dallas is 400 bucks one way. Driving will take at least 16 hours and will cost gas as well as wear and tear on what I’m hoping is my penultimate car. Adding in meals and lodging means that it is about a wash as far as price is concerned.

Maybe I should be asking metalmouse about which would be the best scenic train routes to take.

Afternoon all. Back from the soccer day about 5pm, refereed at 8:30am and 3:00pm and coached at 11:00am and 1:00pm (had to referee this one too, no ref available). To say I am a bit tired and my feet are sore is sadly understating the case. All the referee jobs were tough (I hate to referee my own team, I want to be fair but I also want to coach…) and it was about 84F, but fortunately the clouds were out in force and there was a breeze, so it wasn’t as unpleasant as it could have been. But don’t think I’m going to be to active tonight.

Flyboy, is it time to call in Carl Spackler? Bill Murray’s groundskeeper role in the movie 'Caddyshack

All y’all NE coast folks take care.

Taters, that’s quite a trip; hope it is worth and you can wrangle a ride back to near your place.

nellie, happy news on the knees.

{{shoe}}; hope the long shift is uneventful.

BBBoo, board shows Nebraska winning 28-7 at this time; Cornhuskers will be happy…at least until next Saturday when they have to play #2 ranked Michigan…  :astonished:

JtC, just my opinion but the donation is yours, so just charge her the sale proces and say no more. Or what nellie said.

Well, since you asked…

I’ve taken roomettes on the Empire Builder (Chicago to Seattle), California Zephyr (Chicago to Reno) and the Silver Meteor (New York to Miami, FL). They are roomy enough for one person to be quite comfortable (they are designed for two people, but not that much legroom) and to stow luggage (or leave it accessible in the lower part of the car). The beds are nice and I didn’t have that much trouble sleeping, the car attendant will make up the bed for you. As mentioned, meals are included with the price of the roomette, but any snacks from the snack bar are on you. And timetables are more suggestions than set in stone, you can be on time or 8 hours late, you pays your money and you takes your chances.

As for the best scenic routes, The Zephyr usually gets to Denver in the morning and you spend the rest of the day in the Rockies, so that is nice; the Empire Builder takes you north into the Dakotas and Montana, lots of scenery and wilderness out there. Just kind of what appeals to you at the time; there are plenty of You Tube Vids for all of those (along with the Southwest Chief, from Chicago to LA which is on my bucket list to ride)…

OK, so far have subsisted on some Instant Breakfast, a bag of M&M’s and a Pepsi Zero and a small bag of Ruffles with a Diet Pepsi. Think I need to forage and get something a little more substantial in my belly. Take care all.

Good to hear that so far Ophelia has been interesting rather than dangerous for all the Mid-Atlantic MMPers. Except to the bricabrac at Chair’s & Doggio’s places.

Taters, good luck on your Royal Peregrination. It appears you may need it. One hopes the children in your office are beginning to adapt to the new Taters so they’ll actually do their jobs in your absence. The early omens sounded favorable if I understood you correctly.

Back when I was responsible for all the cooking I finally adopted a policy of never freezing a big hunk. It’ll be fine in the colder part of the fridge for a week-ish, and sometime in that interval it’ll get cooked. If not, I shoulda left it at the store, or cut it into ~2# chunks to freeze separately.

IMO it’s such a long-running PITA to fully defrost a big hunk; the outside has still sat around in the fridge longer than ideal by the time the center is up to fridge temp. And woe betide the chef who starts to roast a half-thawed clod. As you well know.

Bastards. Time to go all Caddyshack on them. ETA: Ninja’d by metalmouse. Curses!

When we had moles at my last house, nothing but pro exterminators could budge them. Didn’t matter what Home Depot magic I tried to whip up on 'em, they just kept digging and multiplying. And laughing. The pros bring out the big guns and the problem stops. But not before IME. You may be far more fierce and successful than I was. Good luck; I fear you’ll need it.

That’s a stark way to put it. But the “before” pain was only going to get worse, and if you can avoid re-injury, the “after” pain should be getting ever-better. Best of luck as you hobble into the future.

Shoe. It was nice of your tummy to try to distract you from your finger. Or was it the other way around? But I bet it didn’t work as well as they thought it would; fingers and tummies are very stupid body parts known for lousy decision-making.

Her Ladyship does that “barf all night for no apparent reason” thing about every 3-4 months. With no obvious cause and no obvious aftermath beyond tired from lack of sleep.

Please be sooper careful at irk; injured plus tired is a great way to get another injury protecting your existing ouchie.

You do you, but based on my local sample data, those bra things are increasingly optional as one ages or is visiting less formal surroundings.

When I got to Walgreens this morning the tech tried to set me up with flu and COVID. Not trying to sell, so much as “Oh, you don’t want the usual combo special, just a la carte? Oops, let me back up 3 screens in the computer and do what you said, not what I absentmindedly heard.”

Then the pharmacist started making the same mistake. So apparently my / my doc’s idea to space them out is very uncommon.

Now 7 hours post flu vax I can slightly feel the spot on my arm, though less obvious than it was earlier, and no sign of the blahs. I’ve set up for a COVID tomorrow late morning and will do that unless I wake up with the flu blahs. All my prior COVID vaxs were Moderna. I went with Pfizer this time. Don’t really have a preference, it was more a matter of scheduling than vax which pointed me to that store.

Post-vax this morning I picked up some dry-cleaning. Then came our day’s Big Adventure …

4 hours spent at a kiddie carnival in a nearby park w Her Ladyship, Daughter, and her 5 kids (1 adopted, 4 foster). Her Ladyship and I walked over from home and rendezvoused with Daughter in the parking area. Then off to the carnival / flea market.

We had rides, we had rock climbing, we had snacks, we had shopping, we had music, we had hyper-enthusiastic kiddie dancing. I got to push the 4-place stroller, feed the 1yo, chase the 2yo, carry the 3yo, and entertain the 11yo. Not all at once thank Og. I left the newborn to the ladies. Who Daughter had gotten at 4lb and lots premature, but who’s now up to 8lbs and growing fast. I also got to take lots of pics of them all having fun.

As all you parents already know, for infants and toddlers “eating” is one of those theoretical concepts where some goes inside, but most finishes on their clothes or face, the 11yo excepted. Of course all the best carnival food is very neat and clean to eat. NOT!!1! They are so darn adorable. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:  :star_struck:

The reaction from others in the crowd when we have 3 white adults of obviously two generations, along with one white child and 4 dark brown ones across that age span all in a noisy loving gaggle is priceless. Lots of supportive noises, especially when they learn all the kids, even the white one, are pound puppies. I’ve never caught a bad look from anyone.

Spent the whole four hours standing with just some very slow walking. Happy to be seated at home now while, yes, Doping again. Temps were mostly in the 80s, but with a high overcast to reduce the bright sun. Still sunburnt my face; oh well. Got home 30 minutes before the rain arrived with a vengeance. Better that than 30 minutes after.

At 6pm w rain cleared out, we’d considered a short walk to a nice grown-up dinner. But they had no short-notice reservations available on Sat night. So we set that dinner up for Tue instead and will be dining here on ham sandwiches or some such once the last of our small carny snacks has fully settled.

Cheers all!!

Poor Sandy!

I’m glad Harvey got his home, but sorry it wasn’t with you, doggio. I know there’s another good boy (or girl) out there for you.

Ouch on the finger shoe!

flyboy, if you do the stew in the crock, cook the roast in the oven first. My usual method is making the pot roast with potatoes, carrots, mushrooms and onions for Sunday dinner, then adding a sauce / gravy including tomato paste and putting it in the slow cooker or a dutch oven in the oven on Monday.

We enjoyed our ramble today, stopping at the Amish bakery and a Mennonite country store outside of Guthrie, KY. We also stopped at a country BBQ / cafe for some awesome pulled poke, white beans, fried okra (it definitely wasn’t just some GFS okra either!) and hot water cornbread. I got home in time to walk Nelson and after a couple of hours of lap time, he’s forgiven me. :stuck_out_tongue:

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

If you’re willing to make a donation to the school and pay for shipping, I will make you one. It’ll come with extra cussin’, too!

Meanwhile, I need my beauty sleep. So ta!

Cute: Having your cat snuggle iwth you during a storm.
Not as cute: Cat repeatedly makes “mwah ha ha haaa” noises in your ear during snuggles. I may have rename him Dr. Evil.
But up from nap, had cocktails(Satan’s Whisker’s, since I had an extra orange0, now it’s time for Asian BBQ stirfiry.

“Old age is not wearing a miniskirt because you don’t want people to see your boobs”

Since you offered…please tell me about the showers and toilets. Is there a line? Is the hot water really hot? Do you need to bring your own towels and toiletries? Is there only one each for each car?

The windows in the pics look like they open, is that so? And if so, do you have control of the heat/cooling in the roomette?

Can you bring an ice chest filled with your own snacks and booze? Is the water any good or will I want to bring bottled water? And lemons because I’m just that precious. How about ice? I cannot drink tepid water due to the being a special snowflake thing.

Are there stops where you can get off and be off the train for a while, or do you need to stay in your roomette for the entire trip.

Is there a smoking car like there was in the old books? The train to the Grand Canyon has one but it is basically a flat car with handrails. I’ll vape in my roomette but I do like smoking da bud.

This.

Anyone remember the old “do your ears hang low” campfire song? Just substitute boobs for ears and you will understand why bras are mandatory for me when going out.

Exciting Saturday night. Ursala Kitteh just horked on the new laminate. Better than on the wool carpet.

It ended up 28-14, after a loooogg break for lightning.

Yeah, we’re all trying to not think about Michigan next week. At least it’s at home where the best fans in college football will stay til the bitter end, cheering their hearts out. I’ll be at home, on my comfy loveseat, cheering my heart out.

jane, here’s an Amtrak map. A couple of those western trips are ones I’d love to take, plus the one down to visit you of course.

And only bad news about smoking, of any ilk:

Thank you so much for the map! And for the compliment  GG is always up for sleeping on new people and has gotten better about sharing his full sized bed. I of course change the sheets often

Dang about the smoking policy. Of course I will vape in my mini-room, but I always make such interesting friends when I spark up a joint.

The more I look at tour travel on a train, the more intrigued I am. Cruises seem really peopley and once out to sea there really isn’t much to see. Trains have big windows and no activities with other passengers.

Hubs gets lonesome when I’m gone and I’ve been away several times this year, so I probably won’t ride a train until the end of next year, but it will be fun to plan and look forward to.

Saw this on my ride today.

This just keeps getting better and better .

Trains have more appeal to me than cruises, for much the same reasons. Amtrak also does some nice vacation tour packages-try looking at their Amtrak Vacations site. Makes me drool. Maybe we could get metal mouse to come along and we could get together in the lounge car for drinks and cards, then retreat to our roomettes for solitary pursuits til time to meet for more cards and drinking. If we took the Empire Builder it’d take us right to nellie’s backyard. I bet she could show us a good time and if we give her notice I bet there’d be cookies.

Dinner was good, Spot is chasing catnip mice, and I got F1 on TV.

Cool!

Heck, I’d be down for that.

A Mumper car would be so awesome! But backgammon might be better than cards because I stack the deck out of habit and I’m still really good at it.

After I realized that I would never be an astronaut because I had crappy eyes, I wanted to be a stage magician AND I got stage struck by being on the Gong Show, so practiced card tricks for hours a day. I can still float an ace like nobodies business LOL!

If I remember to have pocket change, I can also pull a quarter out of your ear.

We’ll have to tell nellie so she can make enough cookies.

Sorry for not replying, I was too distracted by train maps.

Of course I would expect to pay for shipping, but could you please use acrylic or wool yarn? Cotton is too fragile the abuse Drago will get. VBC doesn’t need to learn any more bad words, she’s already got a full vocabulary, LOL!
