(Old, thankfully.) Just call it pee-pee ‘cause it’s all your’n MMP

Mommy, Daddy, I had a bad dream. At first it was that I was staying in a rundown motel and the TV only got one channel, no matter what the channel number. It was a movie about a huge family that killed and dismembered a few family members but kept recruiting and marrying more weirdos–think Deliverance with cute kids and better teeth. One of 'em even wrote a hit country song called “Colors” that started with the red, white, and blue and beauty queens (No matter what color, get it? Very self-congratulatory.) Of course, I went from watching the movie to somehow getting sucked into it and kept hoping the late Peter Fonda, who played the DA, would show up before I got offed.

Side note: my ex actually met Peter Fonda once.

The dream was interrupted by fierce knee pain, which has resumed, so I guess I’m up.

The CDC and, from what I’ve read, most experts say it’s fine to get the Covid and flu shots together. They recommend two weeks between the RSV shot and the other two simply because it’s newer. That still means two trips, JtC. Sorry.

MetalMouse, agree with pilot about the 95% kid, depending on what he’s like at school. That is, at school is he still self-controlled 95% of the time, or does that number drop or rise? And is he under the care of a child psychologist already? Glad you didn’t have to take the lead with his mom.

shoe, sorry about the finger. Yeouch!

flyboy, I’m sorry about Sandy. He sounds like he was A Very Good Boy.

This resurrected a memory. When my daughter was 4, she attended preschool at an Episcopal church. At the end of the school year, they did a “graduation” ceremony in the church for the kids who were headed to kindergarten, and all the students were there.

Naturally, the students were in the front and parents were seated farther back, and all the kids were looking back for their parents as they entered. My kid saw me and gave me a middle finger salute! :open_mouth:

OK, actually, she’d hurt her finger and she was showing me her bandaid… Surely my fondest memory of that school.

OMG - it’s warmer here than at swampy’s!! Woke to a soggy and windy 59° - it started raining last night and continued on and off, as it will all day today. When I let Higgs out, I noticed some water intrusion in the garage, tho not enough to call a flood. The worst is yet to come, but so far, it’s no big deal. Altho we’re promised rain all week - I should have mowed yesterday, dammit.

I do feel sorry for the county fair folks - especially the 4H kids. I’m guessing there won’t be a lot going on today or tomorrow. Our original plan was to go today - glad we went Thursday instead.

As I said before, today will be a crochet day. I think it’ll also be a good soup-makin’ day. I know I have a bag of stew beef that I’d cut into smaller pieces, and if I can find it in the freezer, we’ll have veggie-beef soup for supper. That’s as far as my planning has taken me.

To give you an idea of what we’re dealing with concerning BIL - I found out that after he realized he’d given out all his personal info on the phone, he was threatening to take all his pills and kill himself. MIL did manage to talk him down and he was fine when he came over here so we could help contact the various credit agencies. And he was OK when they went to his credit union and to social security. But in the immediate aftermath, he went off the deep end. So in answer to those who asked, no he can’t learn to take care of his own life.

Breakfast has been ingested, caffeination continues, and I’m going to surf on till FCD gets up, then I’ll go from fuzzy robe to more or less adult clothes and I’ll begin my day.

Happy Saturday!

Morning all. Up early as my first soccer game (refereeing U12 Girls) is at 8:30am and the rest of the day will be filled, so doing my MMP’ing early. Like other places, it’s cool now (58F) but due to get to the mid-to-high 80’s later in the day with no rain in the forecast. So going to be a sweaty day.

The kid has been playing youth soccer for years, I also hope he’s getting help, he’s a pretty good kid the times I’ve been around him, just needs better self-control.

Flyboy, sad news, but the owner does have another pet to look after (and visa versa).

JtC, well, at least the police respond quickly to 911 out there…

shoe, hope the finger is better.

Boo fae, enjoy the music and the company.

nellie, you (and some others here) make me glad I seldom if ever remember my dreams…

FCM, stay dry now. And sad about BIL; another one who you wonder ‘if he had gotten help earlier when he was young…’

OK, need to get dressed up as a referee and make sure the car (MY Car) has all the gear necessary for refereeing two games and coaching two other games. All y’all take care.

Unfortunately, the “help” available in the 60s did what they thought was best for him, but it wasn’t.

We had a similar situation with my mom’s sister, born in the 40s. Her parents were advised to put her in an institution, but they didn’t. However, they went to the other extreme and pretty much catered to her all her life, so by the time she was in her 40s and 50s, she expected everyone to bend to her will. Her final years, after her parents died, were miserable - she was unhappy and angry and confused. I can’t help but wonder if they’d treated her more like her siblings if she might have been a bit better adjusted. Who knows…

OK, morning surfage is done. FCD is still abed, so I’m going to plop in my recliner and read for a bit.

I was just on the Walgreens website setting up my first appointment for flu vax. Which I will leave to go get as soon as I hit [send].

The website was encouraging me to get flu, CVD, and RSV all at once. Of course whether that was to improve their convenience and sales volume or to improve my health is an open question.

But it’s a certainty at least one of the major outlets for mass vaccination sees no issues that would cause them lawsuits or controversy with doing them all at once.

Ophelia has arrived. First the wind whistled through the wall unit. Then the rain pattered on the wall unit, then the cats went wild. Flying through the house, bouncing off the walls, knocking down things.

Things have settled now, breakies in progress, contemplation about to kick in…

Mornin’ all.

It’s currently 56F and cloudy outside. Sunrise will occur in about another 10 minutes. Rain will move in around noon, and the high temperature for today will be 66F.

I got the yard weed whacked, edged, and mowed yesterday morning, so I am prepared for the onslaught of rain this coming week. My husband also did a full cleanout on the two tube feeders, suet feeder, and bark butter feeder and reloaded them. After I cut the grass, I gave the birds their daily fresh water in the big birdbath and the smaller hanging birdbath. So, all our feathered friends were very happy. They were swooping in as I hung the suet feeder. They are not particularly shy around me, and as long as I don’t make sudden moves, they are content to let me be within a few inches of them.

I took care of some other minor chores and ordered and shipped birthday presents to my grandson in Missouri. He’ll be three on 2 October, and I wanted to ensure the presents arrived on time.

FCM, I’m glad you and FCD managed to sort your BiL out and I hope you all stay dry.

doggio, I’m both happy that Harvey found a permanent home and sad it wasn’t with you. There many other senior dogs needing homes, so hopefully you’ll meet one soon.

flyboy, I’m sorry to read about Sandy. Labs are good doggos. So loyal.

nellie, sorry you woke with fierce knee pain again. I hope it’s subsided by now.

boofae, have fun with musical festivities!

bumba, I am sorry to read the news. 101 yeas is a long life, and I hope it was happy and well-lived.

I haven’t decided if today will consist of errands, laundry, or both giving me tomorrow as a well-earned day of sloth. Or if I’ll spread the stuff out. The efficient person inside wants to finish it today, so she may win.

Tomorrow will include packing for my ELT Tour. I really don’t want to go. The days are long because, in addition to visiting each of the office sites, we visit one or two organizations/sites that have received our assistance. I work from the hotel early in the morning and late at night and spend the days doing the whole office/organization tour. If it wasn’t the end of the year and I was still able to obligate funds, I think I would take my own vehicle so I could come straight home on Thursday. As it is, I’ll be carpooling in our GOV van with some of the leadership team, which means my husband needs to drop me off in Olympia early Monday (so I can get some work out of the way) and then drive back down to Olympia after leaving Yakima. Monday, we travel north to Mount Vernon, visit sites and the office, and stay overnight. On Tuesday, we travel over Stevens Pass to Chelan to visit a site, then Wenatchee to visit the office there, and finally to visit another site. Wednesday, we travel to Yakima to visit sites and the office there, and then on Thursday, we travel back to Olympia. I’m going to see if I can get whomever I am driving with to take Chinook Pass so they can drop me off at the junction of Hwy 512 and Meridian at the mall, so my husband can pick me up from there. If not, we’ll come back via Hwy 12/White Pass which means my husband will have to drive to Oly to pick me up.

Alrighty then, time to clean up the kitchen and then shower. I hope you all have a terrific day.

Got a bit of a menu coming up.

There are a couple of T-bones in the fridge, so I’ll cook those tonight. One of Wifey, RN’s patients gave her a box of surplus food yesterday: Some carrots, two potatoes, an onion, three dozen eggs, a couple of cartons of shelf-stable milk, rice, pinto beans, a cucumber, two Roma tomatoes, and a can of something-or-other. We’ll split one of the potatoes, which I’ll bake to have with the steaks.

The Spousal Unit made two spinach-and-cheese quiches last night.

I thawed some chicken thighs, so I’m planning to make pesto chicken Sunday.

Since we have carrots and potatoes, I’ll go to the store and get a roast and make pot roast Monday or Wednesday. Maybe I’ll try it in a crock pot for the first time, instead of cooking it in the oven as usual.

I bought a big-ass bone-in pork roast last week. It’s in the free freezer we got. I think SWMBO is starting to want pulled pork. That hunka deadpig is going to take a while to thaw. I don’t know when we’ll get to it. She also said, ‘Ooh! We have a chicken!’

And I got a 12-ounce can of Bumble Bee solid white albacore tuna out of the cupboard. Wifey made some really good tuna-and-egg salad a few weeks ago, and since we have a surplus of eggs…

Thanks for the thoughts about Sandy. She was a sweet dog. She was so happy coming up from the beach, with a stick she’d found in her mouth. Always ready for scritches. The neighbour’s last cat, Tigger, liked to follow them on their walks around the block. (She was eaten by coyotes. The neighbour found her collar and some fur.)

Reasonable heave, considering. But I doubt much got delivered east of I95. It started raining lightly last night, picked up around 1030, right after I got home from the Likker Sto, and now I have a Flash Flood Warning till 5:pm. The wind isn’t too bad, lots of leaves and small branches down. Worse case, at least the washer finished its cycle, and I have a fifth of gin.

Spot also did this. But it is also normal behavior for him, so YMMV.
enjoy the Festival, boofae!

Now this is just insulting.

There’s a new molehill in the yard… right next to the sonic mole repeller.

They’re taunting you.

My knee is somewhat better. I get stabbing pains, which I tell myself are nerves healing, but not the constant OWWW from earlier. I think the key is to keep it covered at night–not with plastic wrap, which makes it itch, but with gauze. It doesn’t eliminate the pain, but it keeps it at a level I can sleep over. I’ll be glad when I get to the point where the pain from surgery is consistently lower than the pain BEFORE surgery.

pilot, I saw that on the Walgreen’s website, too. I forgot to mention that a few days ago, I got an appointment to get the Covid and flu shots there tomorrow. I’m holding off on RSV until I talk with my doc on Thursday. I’ve never had the icks from a flu shot, but I have from about half the Covid shots, so we’ll see how I do, I guess. Last year I left 2 weeks between for that reason, but the Covid climate seems to have turned nasty, and flu season is here, so I don’t really want to wait.

MetalMouse, forgot to say that I wouldn’t let my son pay for my train tickets. I hate having my kids pay for things for me. It’s a mom thing, I guess.

FCM, it’s seemed obvious from before the big move from Florida that your BIL is incapable of caring for himself, but not everyone has been here that long. It’s a sad situation with no easy solution. I’m sorry for all of you, particularly you and FCD. And thanks to pilot, I can’t read “crochet day” as anything but “crotchet day,” which gives me a grin. Good thing you don’t have JtC’s magic cane, or we’d all be in trouble.

Taters, your job sounds exhausting, and I don’t envy you that trip. I hope it all goes smoothly, though.

This made me

This made me :scream:

Reef those sails, all who live in Ophelia’s path, and we’ll see you on the other side.

Lunch ordered, Frazier on the tv, nuclear dystopian series of books up on the kindle. Bring it Ophelia.

Finger’s still sore & the nail is very sensitive to pressure. To make things worse, I started feeling very weak & ill at work yesterday, and had a rough night involving countless trips to the toilet until I finally gave up and put a trash can next to the bed.

Feeling VERRRY slightly better today, and am keeping down Gatorade and have cautiously nibbled some crackers.
But tonight is Long Night, so I’m not looking forward to a particularly long shift.

Is Ophelia a kitten with the zoomies?

D’awwww. How sweet.

Same thing happened to me a week ago, never did figure out what it was. 12 hours of feeling lousy overnight. Came out of nowhere, laid me low, then left without so much as a faretheewell. Weird.

Hope yours leaves you in time for you to survive Long Night. Maybe seek out extra Monkey cuddles? Cat cuddles I find very curative. Bribe him with extra treats or catnip on the driveway to start the restorative ball rolling. Heck, roll yourself a big one while you sit on the step and watch his antics out side. Preferably while sipping a big mug of tea with honey. Gotta hydrate.

I called Fred Meyer this morning, and we can go in for our (Pfizer) COVID boosters tomorrow. We’ll be there at ten.

Ophelia is the storm outside, lager and koritza are the storm inside.

Rain on and off all day - big surprise there. The wind hasn’t been nearly as bad as originally forecast. From the current map, Ophelia will pass almost directly over our house tomorrow morning as a depression. Much sogginess continues to ensue. I may need to go to the fair and borrow some goats to deal with the grass in the back yard when it’s finally dry enough to mow.

I’ve made one pair of fingerless gloves and I’ve almost finished a third glove, but I’m knitting it and it’s going lots slower. I just cut a london broil in half, bagged both pieces with marinade, and stuck it in the water of my sous vide cooker. And as soon as this post is done, I’ll head back to my recliner and knitting needles.

So goes my day.

Howdy Y’all! Been a day of high sloth and general overall uselessness as promised. I did read over the sermon for tomorrow several times and kinda sorta timed myself readin’ it. Looks like it will be about eight minutes tops, which is fine by me. We’re doin’ Morning Prayer tomorrow with lost of music by the choir, plus three hymns, plus all the prayers (hence the name), so eight minutes is enough, I think. Since I am the Presider I can set the pace. I’m aimin’ at no more than one hour. Anywho, we slothed, we napped, we day drank, I’ve watched some kolledge tackleball. My Dawgs don’t play until seven-thrity, so might not get to watch all of it as I’ll probably feel the need to go sleepy bye before the end.

Listening to my kolledge tackleball game on the radio over wi-fi. I watch a box score on my iPad so I know who has the ball, yards/downs, etc. Works for me, since having a tv and cable to actually watch it would be prohibitive for a one person household like mine. It’s kind of fun since the radio station has been “the voice of the Huskers” for so many decades that it sounds so right, just like it does if you’re in the stadium. The stadium is about a mile from me so I even get to hear the fireworks with each touchdown. And hear the jets if we have a flyover with the anthem.

During halftime I did some quick and dirty tidying up around my loveseat reading, doping and catwarming nest, so now I practically feel virtuous. It’s been an overcast, now drizzling day, so will need my no-nonsense LED reading lamp for when I commence my mystery novel reading marathon post game. Gray day reading can be cozy and I’m looking forward to it. Time to think of an easy supper-grilled cheese and fresh fruit or something egg and cheese. Air fried tater tots if I get ambitious.

We’re ahead by 14 in the fourth quarter so it’s probably safe for me to relax and enjoy my reading in the glow of a win. The whole town enjoys those for days.
