(Old) The Apocalyptic MMP

Good drive there and back. I even got 39mpg, even with a wee bit of lead footing. After 3 hours and 222 photos of BB-55, I went toCarolina Beach Pier(and the High Tide Lounge and Tiki bar) for a couple of Modelos and a Mahi sandwich. It was a tad chilly, being 40 feet above sea level, but I would recommend it. They even had a dog menu. Spot was happy to see me, for once. So now I’m sipping an Old Fashioned, cooking a bacon cheeseburger, and pondering my post-Apocalyptic vacation moves.
And here’s one of the portside 5"/38cal gun houses, with a dogbutler to scale

I got up at 7. Had to have coffee and dry, flavorless bits before driving.

Well;, flexibility is always good. As is opera(teaching or performing).

And how do you say “I assure you we’re open!” in Arabic?

Yay!

Someone who owned 2 Grand Pyrenees at teh same time(like the one lady in the area)

Sweet Mother of God, after 14 months of waiting, the Trusted Traveler Program conditionally approved my NEXUS application! And then I was able to pay the difference and switch to Global Entry! And then I was still approved for an interview! And then I could unlock my profile and update my information! And then there was an interview slot available TOMORROW! It’s an Eclipsalyptic Miracle!

There were almost 40 replies since this morning!

Well, let’s see…. Eclipse, carpet vs. wood, doggio looking good .

That’s what I got out of all of it. I’m not sure what I’ve done today. it seemed like a blur. I took my mom to her appointment and then we went to lunch at a favorite place. Then we came home and while you were watching the eclipse, I was taking a nap. Now I’m hoping that MusicMan is going to volunteer to get me some ice cream and after that it’s going to be time for bed!

I’m hoping that tomorrow I’ll be able to at least talk to someone at my dad’s apartment place. I’ve called again and also sent a message on Messenger. MusicMan is off tomorrow so if we have to, we can just go up there, but it’s at least an hour drive and I would hate to get up there and have a problem. But then if we go tomorrow I’ll miss my volunteering gig tomorrow night. We shall see.

We go to a lot of estate sales and, while going through the high dollar homes, I have often wondered what is it with rich people and white carpet???

Somebody else to clean.

Evening all. Right after the eclipse sighting the clouds and the rain showed up again and soccer practice got cancelled. So had my Double Meat Whataburger with Cheese and large fries and then went to the gym and did penance for about 80 minutes of backstroking, must have worked as my weight is at 224.6 lbs., a loss of about 1.8 lbs from last Moanday’s weigh-in. Home now and should sleep well despite the late wake-up call this morning. More rain is expected tomorrow (oh joy).

On the carpet question, I have carpet in the living room and two bedrooms, the 3rd bedroom/office has faux wood flooring and the kitchen, library and bathrooms have various tile floors. Oh, and all the rooms are different colors…guess I like variety. But the carpet is a khaki color, white would be ridiculous.

suzie, glad you got the Global Entry stuff in the works; it helps a lot.

Sticky Buns, you’d think the apartment place would be wanting to talk to you, they can’t clean/rent the place until you get coordinated with. You’d better get a call promptly tomorrow.

doggio, we may have to change your MMP moniker to “Gunner”. Now plan for a 2-3 day trip to see the Carrier and Destroyer in Charleston. And I’m thinking a nice long weekend trip down to the Gulf the see the USS Alabama might be a nice June activity.

Don’t look good right now (56-40 with 9:25 to go). UConn has been a beast in the second half these last few games.

nellie, you may have to re-name George to Audrey if it keeps growing like that…

red, so happy that your car is ready; not having mine for several weeks last year was a major pain.

shoe, a most creative use of stuff left over. And congrats on finding hidden treasure, even if it’ll end up costing some $$.

talkie, a family with a snacking husband and two kids will not leave many leftovers.

Cookie, wife-unit sounds even more stubborn than me.

flyboy, sounds like someone in one of the places you contacted found out there was a FUBAR and fixed it before his bosses noticed. Good for you.

Oopsie, my viewing was a lot like yours, the sun was rather high in the sky and my neck doesn’t bend all that well anymore, so I got my lawn chair out and that did the trick for me.

OK, need to take the (hopefully) dry swimsuit and towels out of the dryer and start thinking about bed-time. Catch up with y’all tomorrow.

Well, I had to submit a report correction. I tried not to be snarky.

Happy Moonday!
Or what’s left of it.

I’d like to thank Ooopsie and Yankers for the damn earworm.
I hate that f’ing song, even before I found out it’s about vampires. It was so overplayed.

Despite being up half the night in pain, we went to the park this morning. The pups really needed it. Echo was back to her normal self. Rayleigh was a filthy mess; he is a veritable mud magnet.

I wanted to go outside for the eclipse, but I fell asleep. When I woke up, I thought wow, it’s really dark outside. I thought it was going to rain, but no, just the eclipse. I was too tired and hurting too much to get up to go outside.
It’s getting to be too much. I’m up all night, falling asleep all day, nothing is getting done, the house is a mess, laundry is piling up
If this doctor isn’t going to do something more then I need to find another one.

So a good second day of vacation in the books.

I could do that just for the Laffey.

Un airconditioned 35000 ton steel box in June in Alabama? Why not?(Although I’ve been on North Carolina and Iowa, so I need to visit one of the South Dakotas)

{{{{sari}}}}. Yeah, you need a doc that can help.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 6c/42f with a predicted high of 11c/51f and raining. Weather app says “When life gives you a fucking rainy day, play in the puddles. Or fucking stay inside and play with yourself, I don’t care.” It’s definitely wet out there, and I am very glad to be in here with very little need to be out there!

doggio nice pic! Sounds like a fun trip too. Using a doggio for scale is a tricky one - how many bananas tall are you?

sari I really hope you can find a doctor who can help you.

Susan I love Global Entry! We applied for it many years ago after queueing in LAX for nearly 3hrs and almost missing a connecting flight. It was back in the days of in-person interviews, so blokie and I had a day out in London to see the nice guys at the US Embassy. I had my short interview, strolled back across the park to the pub where blokie was waiting, and by the time I’d got my pint, we’d both been approved! Our re-approval in the Covid Times was supposed to require an interview but there was nothing available in-person or online. Eventually they just renewed it anyway, and now it’s been extended to 2027 so we’re really happy with that result.

Cookie I hope Mrs Cookie listens to you and takes the pain meds, sometimes you just have to give in to it. Glad to hear Q’itih is managing a little better with the new litter tray too.

shoe I am with you on the carpet thing. We have carpets everywhere except the hallway, kitchen and bathroom. I would happily replace the carpets in the main rooms with laminate flooring and rugs, but I’d be wary on the stairs because I want something that’s not too slippery.

Oopsie good call on the table thing, that many red flags and a snarky email as well would put me right off. I hope your trainer enjoys the Eid celebrations too, we have a campus in Dubai that will be closed for a week for it

Today my head is confused - I went grocery shopping last night because we have no human food in the house (that’s normally a Tuesday activity) so tonight I will be a bit out of sorts as I’m not doing my usual Tuesday stuff. I needed to go shopping so I have food to use for campus lunches as I’m back there tomorrow so need to do food prep once I log off work later today. Dinner will be leftover chilli from Sunday night so at least I have that bit done.

Jetlag is definitely catching up today, I was falling asleep on the sofa last night so went to bed a bit early, by the time I’d done the nightly routine, I was wide awake and couldn’t get to sleep. I’ve had a rubbish night, and now I’m completely worn out. Hopefully I’ll perk up a bit later one, because I need a decent night’s sleep before getting up at the crack of sparrow’s fart in the morning for the Great Campus Trek.

Definitely no eclipse activity here last night either, we were too far east to really see any of it. And it was cloudy already so I had to rely on looking at photos from friends on farcebook instead. I obviously have not been raptured, although I am sad to see that the bloody idiot neighbours are still here!

Waking at 4 for no discernable reason.
Second day of work today.
Its to go up to almost 80 which of course brings storms.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 62 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 79 and partly N.O.S. for the day. Today is also laundry day. The excitatement of it all is overwhelmin’. Sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’ shall also be accomplished. Sup shall be chikin enchiladas, rice, and refried beans. Fartfest to follow.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

I went to Purdue. My MIL made some comment about the game. She seemed aghast when I told her I didn’t care when I was a student and I don’t care now. Back when I was still working, it seemed one of the first questions coworkers asked of a new hire is where they went to school, then about the football/basketball/whatever team. It amazed me how invested so many alumni are in the ol’ alma mater. Maybe I’m the oddball…

For a second, I thought it was a pic of the guy from Breaking Bad - Brian What’s-his-name.

You shouldn’t have said anything. You’ll probably be crushed by a hunk of space junk as you walk across the parking lot… (Dead Like Me reference.)

We’re not rich, but the first carpet we put in this house was a cream/beige. What were we thinking??? Well, it was a pretty color, but with 2 dogs and 2 cats and eventually a grandkid, not the best choice. Now we have a nice shade of pewter.

I started today with a shower instead of my computer time followed by showering. I have several errands to run and I hope to do them all in a big loop - Food Lion, then WalMart, then Aldi, then Dollar General. I’m making a list, but we all know I’ll forget something - even as I look at my list I feel like something is missing.

We’re promised rain tonight, then on and off thru Firday. Dammit. But the temps are well above freezing. Glad I cut the grass yesterday. Anyway, after I get home, I need to gather the garbage so FCD can make a convenience center run, then I need to paint the panel he just built for the boat. So busy afternoon ahead also.

And after a month of stress/junk eating, I’m trying to get back on track. I have a serious sweet tooth and my self-control slipped of late. I need to keep myself healthy, so more fruits, not so much candies and ice cream. Dammit.

Happy Tuesday!

Mornin’ all.

It’s 44 degrees Fahrenheit and raining. The rain will gradually taper off, and we’ll have cloudy to partly cloudy skies this afternoon. The expected high temperature is 58 degrees Fahrenheit.

It was cloudy or raining yesterday, so even if I had wanted to I wouldn’t have seen anything other than a change in the quality of light. Also, as nellie noted, we only had around 19 or 20 percent totality here. As it turns out, I was too busy to notice what was happening outdoors anyway. Also, my office (it was an in-office day) is not near any windows, and the cubicles block the view.

nellie, I hope last night did not include any bad dreams about the ex. I hope you didn’t have bad dreams at all.

oopsie, I agree that you made a good call on the table. That woman sounds like a right PITA.

doggio, nice pic! I hope you are enjoying your time away from the daily grind.

I loathe carpet. CANNOT STAND IT. It’s one thing if you live alone, but 21 years of kids, dogs, a cat, and grandkids have made my carpet gross. I have a steam cleaner, but at some point, there is just no saving it. I would much rather have luxury vinyl plank (waterproof) or hardwood and run a Roomba around to keep up with the daily dust. A carpet retains many ghosts, and you smell them when you walk in, no matter how often you clean it

I’ve read, but not really retained all that much. I was extremely busy at the office yesterday and then came home and worked some more. I was very tired and went to bed at 9:00, and I had a hell of a time dragging myself out of bed this morning. I opted to sleep in until 4:15 or so, but now the pups want some attention, and it’s almost their breakfast time.

Please accept my hugs, yays and boos as appropriate. I hope that by the time I post tomorrow, I will have been able to keep a little more on top of things here.

Hi everyone!!

Sorry, I’ve skimmed the posts, but didn’t have time to respond to everyone.

SenWife and SenBoy are still down in Taiwan. The bike trip got cancelled but he has gotten to see his old friends. It’s been really nice to spend time with SenGirl with just the two of us.

Sunday, we made homemade Taiwan style beef noodles, with homemade pasta. That was really fun to do.

In places like The Home, they renovate things whenever a resident “checks out”. When we were talking to management before moving here, we requested no carpet except in the bedrooms. They seemed really surprised at that, but pets plus carpet just doesn’t work out well, and it would have included the dining area, which is just wrong. In addition, it’s really industrial grade stuff. We have it in the bedroom because of cold floors in the morning and it doesn’t get much traffic. And we have an area rug in the LR that we bought in our Africa days.

Looks to be not quite so gloomy today, which will be a nice change after the stormy weather lately, and we’ll be in the 70s this coming weekend. I think spring may finally be putting in an appearance.

So glad the inane babbling about the eclipse is done with on the news. “Look! A bunch of people looking up and wearing weird glasses!” “Will the eclipse harm my unborn baby? We’ll have the answers at eleven!” What century are some of these people living in?

Ordered a new watch from Timex for the wife. Got a notification that it had arrived, but it wasn’t in the mailroom. Went back and looked at the email and it turns out that when I ordered it, I didn’t notice that autofill put in my old address in Portland. So that’s $50 down the drain. The love/hate relationship with computers continues. . .

Time to get some coffee percolating. Have a good day, all.

That is one of my favorite guns ever. With the Mark 37 Director, its rapid rate of fire and the proximity fuze, when it became available, made it the deadliest AA in the war.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. It’s cloudy and cool, I picked the right day to do a day trip this week. Today I shall do my Aldi run.

Cranston. My meth is better, though.

A little history(from my favorite battleship curator)

Yeah, you are the oddball. College was an important time for a lot of people. Where you (and your parents and siblings) went to college is important to a lot of people. My nephew went to a university that is not the University of Illinois, but he is vested in that school because I went there as did his father. College sports are followed by millions. My parents loved college football even into their 80s.

Chacun a son gout (no diacritical markings).

Good morning all. Up about 7:30am with it raining outside, 90 minutes later I have sheveled and ate my first apple of the day (Red Delicious which is good-tasting and large, too) and it is still raining and according to the Weather Wizards it will continue to rain most of the day, so being a homebody is my probable fate. Got a letter from Health and Human Services, they want me to be part of a study on Drug Use and Health and if I do everything I’ll get $30, so seems like a good way to kill morning, so I’ll get to it once I’m finished on the Dope (heh). May dodge the raindrops to go to the gym, we’ll see how it goes.

College was an important time of my life, but I don’t think I follow it very closely in sports and don’t give them money (to be fair, they haven’t asked for any in the last 30 years). But still have a sweatshirt with their name on it in my closet.

Sensei, that meal looked marvelous.

{{Sari}}, the right doctor is important. Hope this one (or the next) can help.

doggio, I visited those ships I mentioned in July last year, so a little sweat won’t stop me.

boo fae, I think I have to check, I know I have TSA Pre-Check, not sure if I need to renew my Global Entry or not…something else to check on. Jet lag usually takes 2 days or so to adjust, hope you’re doing better.

FCM, I am the same way with lists or when I am heading out (like to soccer) for a number of hours, I always try to go over in my head, “what do I need to have” and usually about halfway down the driveway I stop and go get the thing I forgot…or I remember it when I need it later…

Cookie, any chance the US Mail can forward the watch to you?

OK, need to start that survey. Take care all.
