Yep - for me it was a means to an end. I achieved that end and never looked back.
And, wouldn’t you know, as I was driving home after 4 shopping stops, I realized I’d forgotten to put a trowel on my list. I have 2 or 3 around here somewhere, but I can’t find any of them. Of course, once I buy a new one, the others will appear. But since it wasn’t on the list, they’ll remain lost. Dammit.
Household trash has been collected for FCD to dispose of. MIL is napping. I’m going to have a sammich and read for a while.
Talked to my niece. BIL fell 3 days after revision knee surgery. The fall occurred at 3am. He got up to get the iPad. He doesn’t remember that he can’t walk. Yet nobody saw the need for him to go to inpatient rehab. Roll eyes.

It’s a gorgeous post-apocalyptic day here in Northern Virginia! Mostly sunny and currently 75°F, on the way to 77. Several windows are open, and there’s no construction noise*…ahhhh.
*My neighborhood was established in the '50s with small-ish houses on 1/4-acre lots, and there’s no HOA: I’ve been renting one of the original small homes for 10 years now (as of tomorrow, actually), and there is always a house within a block or two that’s in the process of being torn down and replaced by a McMansion. Since I moved in it’s happened to the house that faces mine, two of the houses behind me, one of the houses next door, and the place two doors down; currently, it’s happening on the lot catty-corner from mine (I live at an intersection)…which my home office faces. It can get pretty noisy even with the windows closed, so I’m extra grateful for today’s quiet!
I heard from the vet yesterday: the rimadyl prescription was an “oops.” She apologized, and feels absolutely terrible for spacing about Bailey already being on prednisone. I’m annoyed, but I know that she’s only human – and I like her otherwise – so I’ve decided to give her another chance. (Just one more, though; this ain’t baseball.) Anyway, now the plan is for Bailey to start taking gabapentin. Which makes me a little nervous, because the main side effect is sedation and this dog already sleeps ~22 hours a day. I definitely want her pain to lessen, though, so we’ll start with a low dose and see how it goes. I’m waiting to hear when I can go pick it up (and be reimbursed for the rimadyl).
I also tend to prefer bare floors to carpeting, but I don’t mind it in the bedroom. All of the townhouses I’ve rented had wall-to-wall carpeting on the upper level and stairs, and bare floors everywhere else; that worked for me. The place I’m in now is one level with hardwoods throughout, but these days the floors are mostly covered by area rugs to help the old doggy with her footing.
Speaking of footing, last night my personal trainer had me do a new-to-me balance excercise: I had to stand on one leg for as long as I could with my eyes closed. The goal was to be able to do it for 5 seconds, 5 consecutive times on each leg. I always had to start with my eyes open: it was amazing the difference that closing them made! My trainer said we (sighted people) don’t realize the extent to which we rely on visual cues for our balance. I was able to do it once or twice by picturing the floor in my mind, but overall I couldn’t really do it. Even my trainer struggled while demonstrating. It’s something I can see trying to do at home from time to time, though.
…and, yay!
Did someone say Iron Maiden…?
My work here is done.
That looks really good!
(Assuming the orange-ish things are carrots and not tomatoes…)
Still raining. Have called off the afternoon soccer practice as rain is due to continue the rest of the day. Took the Health and Hunan Services survey, answered a few questions about age/sex/origin and stuff, and was told thanks, but we don’t need you for an interview, so no $30… Once lunch settles I will get me to the gym I think so I don’t have to be too busy watchin’ those old raindrops fall.
Wet one, some people are just stubborn, other’s are foolish…sounds like a case of fpplish stubborness…
Press on.
We’ve been gone from there for over a year and a half. I don’t know how long they will forward mail, but here’s hoping. The guy we sold the home to also has our address. I’ve lost a lot of faith in my fellow man over the years, but perhaps I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Around 0900 the wife says “Hey, don’t you have a doctor appointment at 1000?” Damn, I thought it was tomorrow. Made it on time, and confirmed that I’m having a bursitis issue and not a joint problem. They shot me up with cortisone and gave me a bunch of exercises to try out. Hopefully this will take care of it.
The orifice has been smudged.
Cow-Orker lit a bundle of sage, and we all paraded behind her as she blessed every corner of every room in the building, and then blessed us all individually.
Upstairs, before the ceremony started, I told everyone that someone told me there’s a demon in the basement that only appears on Tuesdays. But I said I’ve never seen him. Another cow-orker said, ‘The demon isn’t down there right now.’
A quarter to 13. I’ve got to finish my lunch that I started an hour ago, then get back to irk.
{ this is my life now } That’s my idiot cousin.
We can poke him awake for ya . . ?
(Not a knock against ya, just I feel like my life is hell, now, so if you need me to ring someone up for ya …?)
Annnnnnd…I didn’t get to pick it up today. My own damn fault too. A money transfer that I made, I neglected to complete, so the funds won’t be available until tomorrow.
Good pick doggio!
Irked until 1300, checked the banking app to discover the screw up, rectified it and came home. I hope that I can take a couple of hours tomorrow.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Back from my 3 days away and find that there are 86 unread posts in the April Fooling thread and 85 posts in this thread. Yikes, hope I’m able to catch up by the weekend. In the meantime:
Thanks
. I’ve actually seen people leave their carts outside the restroom area right next to the Customer Service Area when I was returning an incorrect product purchased but I had totally forgot it existed. I was thinking back to the time when restrooms were dingy dirty rooms accessed by walking into the back storage areas.
I don’t think there’s a majik intartoobz pizza that can compete with a fresh made pie made by reputable pizza tossers. I had one such on Saturday with Italian sausage and mushrooms; it was very good. I ate 1/2 for dinner with a salad I made then 1/4 of the remainder for lunch on Sunday and the rest on Monday for lunch. Yum.
thank you, it was. will try to share later.
I stopped at a Trader Joe’s on the way home yesterday because daughter had asked for some special croissants from there; I didn’t know what kind she wanted so I bought 3 boxes: almond, chocolate and mini; we ended up splitting all of them. I haven’t been to TJs since before the pandemic; it’s not close and I haven’t gone that way with time to stop since. Anyway, I used to get a cereal that had flakes and clusters and ginger in it. No more. Shucks. I was able to get a bar of the lavender soap I used to buy. I also picked up a bottle of lavender liquid soap but when I got it home, I couldn’t get the dispenser up out of the bottle so it is currently unusable. Shucks.
I love this idea, great job! Sorry, no ideas on what to call it.
Well I’ve made it through the 86 posts from the April Foolin’ thread. Now I only have 88 to go in this Apocalyptic thread. Need to get some work done so perhaps later tonight or tomorrow.
I did my late Aldi run. Well, I stopped at Ancillary Fermentation for a couple of pints first. They had the Arsenal game on, so I kept a lookout for Vogon constructor fleets. Then I wet across the parking lot to Aldi, and stepped into a math problem. Someone bought an entire shopping cart of bananas.
There’s also an Iron Maiden beer
I can remember that too. Nowadays most grocery stores have a fairly nice restroom, and Walmart usually has two (one front and one back).
Still raining lightly outside, there may have been a break or two during the day but not for long. No soccer practice obviously, did get to the gym for some pedaling to nowhere so the Mac-n-Cheese dinner did not bring about guilty feelings. Am inside the house now and plan to stay there for the balance of the evening.
Oopsie, I’d like to try that balancing trick, but don’t have enough soft spaces to fall on.
Good evening/morning all.
Cookie, hope the cortisone works for you.
Flyboy, that sounds like some pagan ritual more than a Christian one. At least Cthulhu should be appeased…
red, aw nuts on the car, least you got something to look forward to tomorrow.
It was one of those rare, summerlike days. 76.
The weathers keep saying storms by 5. Then its 7. Now its 11.
I like that they overwarn like that, but its a regular thing.
My root canal is acting up. I don’t want to get it pulled, we shall see.
The library actually handed me the new People magazine; they know I look forward to it. It wasn’t even on the shelf!
I feel special.
Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put away where it stays until it gets dirty. Nappage and day drinkin’ were accomplished. It was a ward off scurvy and malaria type of day. Then sup got fixed and et. Fartfest has since ensued.
MOOOOOOM I am a Jawja Dawg through and through, but I am not as nuts about it as a lot of people I know. What really puzzles me is folks who have never set foot on the campus, but are rabid fans. I suppose it has sump’n to do with it bein’ the flagship university of the state. I have not set foot in Athens or on the campus in years and am quite content to keep it that way.
MetalMouse be sure to mention you do Dope at least three or four times a day.
FlyBoy you missed a golden opportunity! You should have fallen to the floor and twitched while screamin’ “The demon does not want to leave me!” I’ve probably told this before, but I once in church I offered to fall out of my pew and into the aisle while screamin’ “It burns! It burns!” while a priest performed asperges.
red hope you get the gray ghost back without a hitch tomorrow.
how about Pavarotti?
You have more patience than me. I’ll humor people up to a certain point, but being invidially blessed crosses my line. If someone wants to make a public prayer, I wouldn’t start practicing the taiko drums, and I’d be quiet, but don’t stand in front of me and direct divine will. Not gonna happen.
They are! There are totatoes in the soup but no solids.
I tried that! That’s wild. I can manage it, but it’s so easy to over correct!
He’s great! I love his videos.
Another person I can’t get enough of is Jon Parshall, coauthor of Shattered Sword: The Untold Story of the Battle of Midway. In various presentations and as a guest on different podcasts, Parshall talks a lot about the effectiveness of the 5" and how it made traditional air attacks on US ships unproductive, leading to the kamikaze tactics.
I took it easy this morning, but now need to get the house cleaned. SenWife and SenSon are coming back Sunday.
I don’t discuss religion, and I’m careful about politics, in the office. Taking part and not mocking made her feel good, everyone was respectful, and it did me no harm. (Well, except for interrupting my lunch. But it was a salad, so it didn’t get cold.)
I understand, and I don’t discuss religion with most people as well. Certainly not at work. Likewise, I like to only discuss politics with friends that share a common political philosophy.
However, I grew up being forced to participate in very conservative Mormonism so I have baggage that many people don’t. If that doesn’t bother you so much, all the better.
I’d never mock someone to their face (although laughing about it privately afterwards would be expected).
Waves from Alber…fuck if I know how to speel it this late at night.
IL’s home town.
The storms started in Dallas last night and most of the drive involved heavy rain and wind.
We will be home tomorrow afternoon.
My upbringing was secular. My wife is a Christian. Best just to get along.
So Long At The Fair is playing on TCM. ‘Vicky Barton visits Paris with her brother Johnny, only to discover the following morning he has gone missing and the hotel staff have no recollection of his presence.’ Well… Johnny didn’t want to go to the World’s Fair. He didn’t want to go to the Eiffel Tower. He didn’t want to partake of the local cuisine. I’m thinking like, ‘Your brother was a stick! Go out and have fun!’
