It is thundering; why always at night?
Not easy to sleep at those times.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 6/c42f with a predicted high of 11c/52f and rain showers. Weather app says “I’m glad it’s raining. And by glad, I mean I’m fucking annoyed.” That would explain why I’m looking at bright sunshine and a grey-ish sky!
doggio and Oopsie there’s actually a range of Iron Maiden beers although Trooper is the one most commonly on tap in the pubs. Occationally they’ll have the IPA and sometimes others in bottles.
metalmouse shame you didn’t get to be interviewed and earn $30 for next to no effort - you should definitely have mentioned the Dope!
flyboy glad you survived the blessing I also don’t get involved in politics and religion in the office, I don’t want to offend everyone so I keep my beliefs to myself. Apart from brexit, anyone who voted for that is a brainless idiot.
Sensei your meal looks delicious. Do you deliver?
red I hope you get your little bus back today!
Today is my first day back on campus after my break - it was hard getting up this morning. I was wide awake again at 3am and was just drifting back to sleep at 5.30am when the alarm was almost due to go off. Then Cherry was on the bed demanding fuss so it was quarter to six before I got up. Still made it to the office early due to the unusual benificence of the Travel Gods.
One of my minions is on leave until the end of next week so I’ve got some things to pick up for him, and the union has notified everyone that they’re planning strike days from 22nd-29th April. That would be great for him, he’s due back at work on 22nd so he’d get an extra week off to get over his jetlag and catch up with himself!
Time for a cuppa and some breakfast before I start doing what I’m allegedly paid for…
that was the most memorable trip with my grandparents I was 10 years old and I can say I walked 90 percent of the ship of course having a Korean War Navy vet grandpa giving an intimate tour about everything including a few stories on how he ended up in the temp brig for the weekend a couple of times … (he was a smartass which didn’t go over well mostly)
well in Indiana you would be … know the stereotype about West Texas with HS and college football? indiana’s version is HS and college basketball
Even my grandmother whom never played a sport in her life other than wiffleball with us kids was an IU fan and we watched Bobby Knight throw the chair live on TV…
Hi! Y’all are very chatty, but in a good way!
I read, but only retained the part about Sensei’s delicious looking food.
Today I have to go to physical therapy and then the dentist. Then I am quite certain a nap will be in order.
I did finally hear back from the apartment lady. Let’s just say it’s a good thing that we were not speaking in person. My favorite line was, “we keep charging rent until the keys are returned.” Um, lady. You are the one who hasn’t returned my call AND I am not in any way financially responsible for him. So, I don’t give a flying fig how long you decide to charge him for rent. You’re not getting anything from me. Anyways, MusicMan and I will head up there Sunday and take what we need.
Ok, happy Wednesday everyone!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 64 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 79 and mostly cloudy for the day. We also have an areal flood watch in effect. Seems rain is comin’ in overnight and the fact that we’ve had a lot of rain in the past few weeks makes potential flash floods a real possibility. Oh well. Today we shall procure provisions and after they are stowed, we shall head over to the church house to deal with stuff and then have N.O.L. at the hog trough GC. Then we can hunker down tomorrow in da cave. Of course the usual sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’ are also on the agenda. One cannot slack off on sloth, now can one!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. How I suffer!
Happy Hump Day Y’all!
Overcast start to the day, but we might see sun later. Or not - who knows?? I’ve got the rice steamer going - I’ll be making gołąbki for supper since cabbage was on sale and I found a nice big head. The part that doesn’t get stuffed will be cooked as a side. So yum for tonight. I made a big batch of sketty sauce yesterday - 3 more bags for the freezer. It’s such a quick, easy meal.
Roxy might have strep, dammit. The test came back neg but the doc sent the culture out for test because she thinks it’s strep. Hope she doesn’t share it with her brother. And I hope she’s over it before Moanday’s birthday celebration.
My non-cooking plan for today is painting the cabinet that FCD has been building. That shouldn’t take more than a couple of hours, I think. We shall see. Beyond that, I dunno. What happens, happens.
Happy Wednesday!
Here in Nebraska Husker Football is taken so seriously that, upon his retirement, Coach Tom Osborne was sent to the U.S. House of Representatives for two terms in landslide elections.
It would appear that the cortisone is helping, as I had a relatively pain-free night. I also did some of the exercises before bed, which likely helped.
Costco run later today, as a sale starts, and Irish butter is $3.50 off per two pound box, which is a steal compared to supermarket prices. Hell, it’s a steal even when it’s NOT on sale. Gonna pick up a pizza on the way out and that’s today’s dinner.
Mornin’ everyone.
It’s 41 degrees Fahrenheit and mostly clear outside. The expected high temperature is around 63 degrees Fahrenheit, and we’ll have cloudy to partly cloudy skies throughout the day.
Yesterday was…something. It was long, for sure, and annoying at best. I dealt with various problems and wasted untold time going back and forth through an intermediary for our state meeting site. Jesus, what PITA. She was getting pissy (through the intermediary) because she couldn’t upsell me. I work for the Feds, and I’m required to be a good steward of our money. I have rules to follow. They will nickel and dime (really dollar and 10 dollars) you for every little thing. Then, there was the lady who incorrectly used her gov travel card and expected me and the MPA to get her out of the mess. She couldn’t figure out how to use the WEX card for the GOV vehicle, so she decided to use her GOV travel card to fill the car’s tank with fuel. That’s a violation, and she knew it. She admitted she knew it was a violation. We don’t administratively support her, and I wasn’t going to start. She is a total PITA who starts screaming and crying (literally) the minute things don’t go her way. I told her to work through her supervisor multiple times, and she finally got the message. There was all the usual daily BS to contend with, along with actually getting some of my work completed.
I’ve been invited to two big events over the next couple of weeks. Both involve travel and being gone for a few days for each event. Both will have high-level visitors, and I declined both. They want me there to help take notes. First, I do not have the time to sit around multiple days to take notes because I have to keep up with the records project and keep up with a multitude of other things, and second, I really hate taking meeting notes. Third, these high-level visitors usually have staff accompanying them to take notes; I don’t feel we need to do it, too.
I don’t discuss politics or religion with anyone if I can help it. I keep all of that off my book of faces, too.
JtC, I’m glad the trip was worth it and I hope you made it home safely.
wetone, I am guessing the fall didn’t help change the minds of the folks keeping him out of rehab, either.
I think today will be another 12-hour work day. My vacation is in August, and I’m counting the days until it starts.
Well, there go the pups. Time to tend to them now.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. It’s currently cloudy and 58 degrees ferret height. It’s supposed to rain again this afternoon.
Flinging pointy stick wielding Sri Lankan spiders on idiots?
Around here it’s college bball.
I thought that was “not spanking in person”
Yay!
I just finished mixing up the stuffing for the stuffed cabbage. I’ll let it sit so the flavors can blend, and later this afternoon, I’ll scald the cabbage leaves and finish it up. Supper will be yum!
Oh, and I’m showered and dressed in grubbies that will be appropriate for painting. I’ll get to that after MIL is up and fed, whenever that will be. Chillage till then.
We had a lovely eclipse. We drove down to my SIL & daughter’s friend in Toledo, and she drove all six of us a bit farther south to Bowling Green (OH), where we had lunch at Culver’s and found a nice park. Our older daughter was just as psyched about seeing the eclipse as her dad was, so it was all worthwhile. And we saw a sunspot light bridge (or so I’m told) popping out of the corona at totality!
This is our last full day here, but SIL and Daughter have to work, so I foresee a lot of hanging around with Younger Daughter and the cats today. I’ll miss them a lot, but I’m ready to go back to my own cats and house (grungy carpet and all). If it were up to me, I’d consider hard floors downstairs and carpet up in the bedrooms (and stairs, for traction), but Mr. L is strongly pro-carpet. He’s pointed out that I’d just want to put area rugs down anyway, and those are forbidden as tripping hazards in our household. Like we’d be able to get organized enough to replace any flooring anyway!
Annnnnd… that was yesterday.
We’re flying home today. Maybe the next time JtC drives through Albuquerque, we’ll be home. We said goodbye to the MI residents last night, since their bosses apparently expect them to work this week, and our younger daughter will take us to the airport in a little while. I’ll miss the kids, but I’m ready to be home with my own kitties!
Morning all. Rain is in the forecast (again) but not as heavy as yesterday so might even get out of the house some more. Need to take the garbage out to the curb later tonight for pickup, that will be my major responsible action today. Going to get near 70F again so that will be nice.
IL, have a safe trip home. Glad you got some serious family time in.
Coppertone, I usually check Weather Underground on-line too keep up with my local weather. Not 100% of course, but usually fairly accurate. Hope the teeth settle down. And nice of the library folks to remember and let you feel good.
JtC, safe driving now, hydroplaning is a thing you don’t want to experience.
boo fae, welcome back to the working life.
shady, don’t have a naval veteran in the family, but have been on a fair number of old WWII ships (still have to get to the Iowa and Missouri sometime). And you are right about Indiana, I lived there for 4 years, the most popular TV station carried Indiana basketball, the secondmost popular had Purdue, and the third-place had Notre Dame, so you couldn’t escape it. And I also saw the Great Chair Toss live on TV.
swampy, sounds a bit…swampy…down there. stay dry.
FCM, hope Roxy ducks the strep throat, I still remember how miserable it made me and that was when I was 10-11 years old. Happy painting.
And we elected the Auburn Coach to the US Senate (and in the spirit of not commenting on Religion or Politics, I’ll say nothing about the moron…
)
Cookie, glad you are feeling better, what’s the difference (besides $$$) with Irish Butter?
Taters, ain’t people who don’t quite understand the rules of the game just wonderful? Good on you for sticking to your guns and getting the things done. And I’ve been a minutes-taker for some meetings in my past, it is a hassle and then someone always has to tell you to please mention this or that, which you already know…
Think I’m caught up, have broken fast with a big bowl O’Cheerios so ready to face the day. Have a good one all.
Weird morning so far. An Account Executive sent me a credit report, and the title of the email was ‘This looks odd.’ Okay…? What do you want? ‘I think these two companies are mis-merged.’ Well, now I know what she wants. So I do a lot of research (Secretaries of State, company addresses, DBA names, etc.) and made out a request to BMCRA to separate the mis-merged company from the report, and to merge other BINs for the other company into a single BIN. I told the AE, and was thanked. Then later she said she was looking for a report on the other company. If I had known that to begin with, I could have saved some work.
Then member wanted derogatory trade lines removed from their report. Um… Trade lines that are being reported by companies you bought from can’t be deleted by you. This is a large company with about a million and six divisions. Still, they need to ensure all of their bills are paid and then the derogatory lines will disappear. BTW, this is the same company who was being denied credit because of their score, and the score was low because they’d been reporting on their own divisions.
Drinking lots of coffee, and I’ve just had a hot Italian sausage for breakfast.
same with Hubs & I. when we were first married, we counted our nickels and dimes but for one special occasion, don’t remember what-too long ago, we went to the Hyatt Regency here in town and had appetizers and drinks; all we could afford. It was a circular restaurant on the top of the building that also revolved. Thanks for bringing to mind a happy memory.
I have it dvr’d. I love singing the songs.
So, for only the second time in 2024, I actually went into the office today. I went in very early since I want to avoid seeing/coming in contact with people. Normally, the early guys get there to punch in at 6:30. I got there about 6:43. The gate was still locked and instead of the combination lock, there was a lock that you needed a key for and I didn’t have one. So, I parked on the grass at side of drive and went back up the hill a bit and walked over to where the fence ended and slowly carefully made my way down the hill. Then when I got into the building, the alarm went off. Well, the building has been undergoing renovations for the last 3 months and they moved where the alarm is. I found it and punch in the code but it started making a baaaad noise so I called the manager and he told me how to disarm it. I shared what I had to do to get on the property and was surprised the early guys weren’t in. He then told me that today is an observed holiday. :smacks head: Shortly thereafter Guardian Alarm called and I tried to assure them that I am allowed to be in the building. They asked for some code word but I don’t know it. So, I told them to call the manager, gave them my name and told them I’m the Accountant. They were satisfied with that. Later several people called and I wish I knew how to say:
“I assure you we’re open!” in Arabic. But I couldn’t stay very long because it was FUBAR!!! They moved the spiral notebook that I have all my passwords in. Then when I finally was able to access my documents, I couldn’t print because the name of the printer had been changed and I couldn’t figure out how to add that printer. And of course, I couldn’t reach the IT department because observed holiday. So, I only sent the Cash Receipt group for one day last week to the Treasury Department then came home. I logged onto my laptop and was able to print some needed documents. I’ll have to go in on Friday, maybe tomorrow to get printouts so I can prepare the Cash Receipt groups for this week at home.

my weight is at
WOW, metal mouse, that’s fantastic. You go Guy!!! Kudos.

Don’t look good right now (56-40 with 9:25 to go). UConn has been a beast in the second half these last few games.
when UConn went up 11, I said Stick a fork in it; it’s done/over.
Off to an appointment; see you later.

I’ve got the rice steamer going - I’ll be making gołąbki for supper since cabbage was on sale and I found a nice big head.
This looks quite similar to the stuffed cabbage rolls I grew up with. Between this and Sensei’s yummy picture, I’m really getting a hankering for the foods that I grew up, but I don’t make because my husband doesn’t like them. Might make Pennsylvania Dutch pot pie just for me.
Neither husband nor I care for sports, which is good since our respective colleges are arch enemies.
The only university wear I own is from my dad’s employer. I prefer purple and gold to my own college colors.
Finally got our ducks in a row and our bedroom carpet will leave before the end of April. Really looking forward to having it done, but I’m sure the furniture moving is going to be a bit of a challenge.
Cat_Glove, sounds like somebody forgot to keep you updated about all the changes. Hope tomorrow’s office visit works out better.
IL, sometimes I can’t believe that Bowling Green is really the name of a town. I’ve got relatives in the Tiffin area and they shared some gorgeous photos from the eclipse.
Went to the gym earlier this evening, and now I should get dinner. Happy hump day!

how about Pavarotti?
Perhaps mildly grandiose.
I’m sure I’ll be happy when all this is over, but my goodness am I over the real estate process. Thousands of little things, logistics, documents to upload, things to schedule, and the packing. My god the packing. The things you accumulate in 19 years.
Also all the stressful things seem to happen on Tuesdays. Tuesdays are my long day. I teach for seven hours and then have a three hour rehearsal. I barely have meal breaks. I can’t deal with things on Tuesdays.
Our Accountant was actually our Treasurer. El Jefe released this obituary in the newsletter that goes out to our members:
Our association is grieving the loss of our Treasurer for the past 12 years, [Treasurer]. [Treasurer] passed away on March 24th after a brief illness. During his service to [our company], [Treasurer] brought his strong analytical and business sense to bear on strengthening our financial condition. His most significant accomplishments included managing the financial transaction surrounding the 2014 sale of our downtown office building, careful oversight of our investments, and successfully managing our financial position during the pandemic to ensure we are in the strongest financial condition of our 125 years.
In addition to serving [our company], he was also managing partner of [Treasurer] + Company CPAs. The firm had an extensive background in technology start-up and emerging growth companies. He had broad experience with mergers, acquisitions and corporate restructuring. He was a graduate of Central Washington University and received his CPA certification from Washington State University.
[Treasurer] made his home on [Island] with his partner [Partner] and three children, two dogs, and countless chickens.
His passing is deeply felt by all of his [our company] colleagues. We mourn his loss as of one of the good guys who made such a positive difference in the lives of others. We extend our condolences and best wishes to his family.
I thought that was a very nice In Memoriam.

Tuesdays are my long day.
Tuesdays are my commuting days. About three hours each way, so six hours of driving. But I only work for a bit over seven hours before the return trip.
Howdy Y’all! Provisions were procured and then things got done over to the church house. Instead of goin’ to the hog trough GC, we went to Eggs Up due to a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for their Coastal Crab Cake Benedict. Og, is that ever good! Then it was back to da cave for nappage. Since then day drinkin’ has also occured. Rain is expected soon and we are under a tornado watch. Glad to be inside and dry for the day. Netflix and chill soon.
Cookie glad the cortisone is helpin’. Pizza is always a good choice. Irish butter is the nummiest.
Taters good for you for makin’ snowflake go deal with her own mess.
Legend glad y’all had a good time. Safe travels home, though you may even be there by now.
Hippie and MetalMouse Jawja narrowly escaped electin’ Herschel Walker to the Senate.
:: shudder ::
Cat_Glove glad to help you recall a happy memory. A friend and I went to Disney World in 1979. On a lark we decided to drive down to Miami Beach so we could stay a night at the Fontainbleu Hotel and order room service. We sent post cards to a whole lot of folks. We made it back home before the postcards did, but 'twas a fun thing to do. Ah youth and its spontaneous weirdness!

Provisions were procured
I’m making Trader Joe’s Salmon Pinwheels for dinner… but I did not procure any vegetable-type provisions. Wifey, RN has two new patients who live down the beach (past the State Park), so she’ll stop at the corner market on the way back to see if she can find something. That’s good. My defaults are yellow squash or asparagus. She may well pick up either of those, but she may find something different.
If anyone has a TJ’s nearby, you might check these out. They’re tasty (though Costco’s Salmon Milano with Basil Pesto Butter is tastier ) and pretty darned healthy.
