Wowser! That is amazing.
AIUI, such bans are for new construction.
Yay for Bailey’s improvement oopsie!
JtC, I keep (one) glasses repair kit with my spare glasses, since I need glasses to repair my glasses.
bumba, I had a remote TV app on my last phone. I kind of miss that.
wordy, your cherry glop sounds similar to my mom’s (and Aunt Marilyn’s) cherry delight. Theirs had a graham cracker crust though.
Nice block hippy. That is going to be a gorgeous quilt when it’s done.
VanGo, my Roku remote doesn’t have a volume control either.
Irked, came home, walked Nelson and et. Such excitement!
Come home Darci!
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
See, the semi- neurotypical assumption is where we run into problems. BtY is on the spectrum. Most of his problems involve social issues, but he also has a brain that rewrites encounters in a way that he’s not at fault. I wish I could say that it was an act, but in all honesty, I don’t think it is. It’s been for most of his life and getting in trouble for “lying” has rarely gotten him to change his story. Parenting him hasn’t been easy, but I really wouldn’t trade him for anything.
All that said, he didn’t actually bring it in to school. Apparently it slid further back somewhere I didn’t notice. So no trouble for BtY and less stress for me.
wheelie , I’m glad that your hands is feeling better. Though I have to agree with shoe on resting it. I hope you put Murphy (both law and bed) in its place tomorrow!
FCM and bumble, I have bought generic smart TVs (one is a Vizio and the other an Element). I used to have ChromeCast on both of them but decided to try a Roku box. I use my phone as my remote, which is one of my favorite features. Though whenever the time comes to get a new one, I’m thinking Roku as well.
Niner, I giddily knew what weeding was. I overhear a lot of librarians talk and I’ve got several librarian friends.
Boo, I agree with you 100% about teaching needing to be honored. Personally, I think a good sensei is a good teacher and vice-versa.
Niner, I’m never going to be able to think of Teach, Sensei or TokyoBayer the same way again. Worst of all, I’m not sure if I’m grateful or bugged!
Yay on the boosters, Cookie!
Hugs are never turned down. Though the phrasing reminds me of an incident at a Ren Fair 20 years ago. There was a wandering monk wandering around, just being jolly. It was also a very hot day and they had a water mister set up. The monk walked up to the wooden pillar, slapped it and loudly proclaimed, “There! You’ve all been baptized, whether you like it or not!”
Also, your garden sounds like it’s gonna be wonderful!
Stayed away from the beans?
runs away from the bad joke
More seriously, I had gas heating growing up in the middle of nowhere New York. I think we had to have propane tanks delivered, but that was closer to 35 years ago. I do know that we had a wood stove and lots of blankets for the times the gas heat wasn’t enough.
hippie, the squares are coming along nicely. It’ll be beautiful when it’s finished.
VanGo, I’m glad the install is going well for the most part. Definitely get rest! You deserve it.
My day has been fairly low key. As I mentioned above, BtY is actually not in trouble because he did leave it in the car, it just moved on us. I got some laundry done but lazed instead of cleaning. My back is deciding that it doesn’t like any position I put it in. I really need to get some lower back exercises to help with this. Well, that and to lose more weight.
Right now, I’m sitting around typing on my phone while CtE is in with their therapist. It’s good catch up time for me. They said something that made me sad, though, today. I asked them if they will be wearing one of their skirts to the field trip tomorrow (which I am chaperoning), and they said no. I’d noticed that they hadn’t been wearing them lately so I asked why. Their reply? "It only takes one asshole with a gun. " And being in Tennessee, I can’t say I blame them. But I hate the fact that they can’t wear what they feel comfortable in because they are worried about being killed for it.
I’m actually driving them in to school tomorrow and possibly picking them up. It just depends on when the field trip is over. I’ve got to make sure to bring a book this time!
Off to waste more time elsewhere. Have a great night, all!
@rocking_chair
@missred
@TruePisces
Thanks
We have the propane heater, oil-filled radiator-style space heaters, and a wood-burning stove fireplace insert. Also electric blankets (mattress covers, actually) and a heating pad.
RealFish glad BtY is not in trouble. That’s sad about CtE not feelin’ safe about wearin’ their skirts.
Wordy cherry glop is what I know as cherry delight. The recipe is in the Mumper recipe blog. I am the reason for that. It’s also good with strawberry or blueberry pie fillin’.
@Johnny ref the tree on the wires. Quit while you’re ahead. You keep at it and when they do finally react they’ll assume you had something to do with causing it and send you the bill.
I wish I was kidding but something broadly similar occurred to my brother 10-15 years ago. The world simply no longer can believe that there are public-spirited people out there who might care for the greater good, not merely for themselves, and might be diligent in taking action to solve public problems. So when a report comes in, they assume it must somehow be motivated by self-interest. Try proving you didn’t knock over that tree. It’s hard.
I knew that. Hence the disclaimer. You are a saint.
I had a desire to hit the publix/pubic for a couple of items that slipped off yesterday’s list but procrastinated all the way to just past dinner time. There’s finally nothing here at home to eat for dinner. Her Ladyship is still eating gingerly, so is disinclined to sit through me eating a full restaurant meal.
I headed off for the casual but non-chain Indian place in the same center as the Publix/pubic where I could get a quick meal then do my mini-shopping. Meantime she called ahead to confirm gasoline was finally available at her favorite station, then drove out to get some. Relief ensues.
The casual Indian joint is pretty typical in style and menu; much more a fast lunch eatery than a dinner place. Plenty good. They finally did something I don’t think has ever happened in my 40+ years of eating Indian. They made the dish hotter than I really enjoyed. Boy howdy did that clear my sinuses. I lurves me some hot, hot, hot Indian stuff, and ask for it that way. I’ve certainly had some native Indians roll their eyes when I asked for it as hot as they like it. Then have them watch in amazement as I muck it down happily.
But this really was just bit too much of a good thing. I think somebody in the kitchen was showing off. Anyhow, with food eaten and brow wiped a time or three it was off to Publix then home in the twilight.
Now as darkness is fully dark I’m enjoying the warming heartburn filling my gizzard and a Hendricks Gimlet with ice. Life is good.
Yep. ‘Nie mój cyrk, nie moje małpy.’ (‘Not my circus, not my monkeys’ – Polish proverb.)
I hadn’t remembered if I’d mentioned him being on the spectrum or not. I do love my boy but his quirks can be very, very quirky. And coming from two self-avowed geeks with many quirks of our own, he is definitely the quirkiest.
Flyboy, I am reminded of an old humorous quote:
You did everything that anyone with a sense of responsibility would have done, and if they don’t pay attention then it’s on them. (But I will admit the circus/monkeys quote is another of my favorites).
Pilot, glad your wife has gas now…wait, that didn’t come out right…
And glad you like spicy hot food; I can’t handle it.
Real Fish, glad the phone was found and much drama averted. And sad but true, CtE is right. Wish he wasn’t, but he’s right.
hippy, that’s a beautiful end product, looking forward to further updates.
I have electric for the Air Conditioning unit and natural gas for the heat, so usually one bill is high and the other fairly low. Stove is electric, I think that is pretty common around here.
Herald, that sounds like you have a farmyard instead of a garden; hope your crops do well.
Got my swimming (1,000 yards today) and sauna in, then went out to referee soccer for 8-9 year old girls. It was raining lightly, no storming so we got the game in, but I had forgotten to take my refereeing cap with me so my hair (such as it is) got a bit damp. Cheeseburger has been cooked and consumed so internettin’, readin’, and maybe one more carpet cleaning is in my pre-sleep future. Need to be up early for the carpet folks tomorrow.
Have a good evening all.
Yep. One of my favourite quotes.
Up and having a martini. Making egg noodles with chicken and cheese sauce. No Darci, but at least Spot is spending an increasing amount of time being aloof and untouchable in plain sight, rather than being aloof and untouchable in a hidden place.
Fumbling and syringes are two words that should never be in the same sentence.
Propane is God’s gas - Hank Hill
Funny, if you hadn’t taught me about mistakes, I wouldn’t have noticed them.
{{{{Fishy and CtY}}}}
Of course, when the tree does take out the wires, TPTB are gonna engage in an epic bout of circus monkey flinging.
“if at first you don’t succeed, skydiving is not for you.”
Circus monkey poo-flinging.
The first 30 seconds of your description of any of his escapades make it very, very obvious whether you use the magic word “spectrum” or not. Like a farmer, he’s outstanding in his field. And that field is brightly labeled “ASD”.
Aaaannnnd … the bastards got me.
Here a bit after 9pm my phone farted forth the ghastly noise signalling incoming irk.
Tomorrow Thu after a reasonable get-up & get-clean I shall sojourn to Cali Colombia, spend the afternoon & evening in town, then get up a bit early on Fri & zoom back here to be home to Her Ladyship between lunch and dinner time. Quite bankerly all things considered. Cali can be a very good time.
Now to reheat my laundry that’s been patiently waiting in the dryer since 10am then put it away before bed. “Bachelor ironing” I call it.
Mother of three and/or bachelorette ironing too.
I think the test block goes perfectly with doggio’s top blanket and Spot. Maybe it could be sewed onto a pillowcase.
Love the pattern, the colors and the gray fabric.
herald sounds like a heck of a garden; it’ll be great to have fresh produce in 3-4 months.
For about the past week, I’ve frequently been feeling foggy/tired in the afternoons. Sometimes I’ve just tried to power through but several times, including today I’ve taken a nap. Hope I don’t have trouble falling asleep tonight.
Initially I was planning to make Million Dollar Pasta Casserole today but after the nap it was too late to get started on it so I decided we’d have leftover pizza and big salad. However, almost out of lettuce so made quick trip to Kroger for circular and one head of lettuce. Sauteed bell pepper and red onion to put on top of pizza, then made salads with bell pepper, cukes, carrots, celery, fresh green onion from the garden and of course, the lettuce. Afterward I washed dishes from yesterday and today. Well I did so until my hands had had enough; there’s still pots and pans and silverware to do. Going to wrap the presents next.
Damnit Darci, get yur fuzzy butt home!
I hadn’t realized that you were close enough for her to hide in the woods. Poor frightened girl and poor heart-broken you. And probably roomie as well. Damnit.
I spent a number of years working in the tech services department of a library…you might be surprised. We liked putting new books on the shelves and understood that we couldn’t keep everything. All of us tech services folks had their own “favorites” so all Lovecraft and Weird Fiction books stayed until we had a copy in better condition, but I had no issues at all with weeding the Stephen King shelves. Dirty, dog-eared books don’t circulate nearly as well as pretty new copies.
How long has it been since your last one? I’m due as well, but you live in a higher risk environment than I do so I am thinking about waiting until July so it will be “fresh” when I drive to Idaho.
I hope you have the catnip properly isolated, that stuff spreads like nobodies business and next thing you know, you are hosting the neighborhood cats’ pot patch.
That sucks. We have never been on propane but plenty of folks I know are. Our last place had natural gas, but the stove was electric and we never had cause to replace it. I wasn’t a fan of the heating system because it required electricity for the igniting system, so if we didn’t have power, we couldn’t heat our home or watertank.
I wasn’t going to say a thing, I know you have already figured out how to adjust things. Those colors are wonderful, I am really looking forward to seeing the “real” colors and fabrics, I’ll bet they will be stunning.
I still think you should use your test blocks for bags or throw pillows, they might have minor mistakes but they are still beautiful!
That’s a lot of hours doing heavy work. I hope you are getting paid well.
That is just too smart for words. I will do the same starting about 2 minutes ago.
I am so glad you didn’t have to be a bad guy today. I’m sure you have to do it enough already and it can’t be your favorite activity.
I am feeling much better now that I have been taking Tai-chi classes. It is a slow, gentle stretching workout that is very relaxing.
“they”
Yeah, this is hard for me too. Habits don’t break overnight.
Today was surplus produce and it seems as though bell peppers are in style this week. We don’t eat enough of them to make the effort of freezing them worthwhile so they went to my friend with chickens. We also got a couple of bags of Easter maltball eggs and I’m having a big dilemma over them.
I liked them enough to keep a bag for us (the other bag went with LWT) but I can’t open them because I will eat a couple and clip the bag closed and put them in the cabinet. Hubs will see that they are open and will eat a few, which will turn into a few more and then next thing we know, he will have eaten the whole bag in a day.
Being able to leave an open bag of candy in the break room is one of the very few things I miss about working. I guess that tomorrow I will take the unopened bag to LWT because it wouldn’t be fair for me to have a couple if hubs can’t.
Lately we have been getting Starlings migrating from wherever to their summer home which is not here. I know I should try to run them off, they are horrible for the local birds, but they are so entertaining. I love hearing their murmurations and GG and VBC are fascinated by them. Today the yard was covered with them which means we will have a week of frantic activity and then it will be over and the cats will be all like…is that all?
It’s a nice day here! 11° C which is 51F, no clouds and cherry blossoms are starting to appear. Hanami, or cherry blossom viewing is popular in Japan.
Classes went well. After years of an English teacher who just liked to play around with the kids, having a real teacher is adjustment for some of the kids, but this is an important subject so they should be studying and not just playing games.
My wife’s job is busy so I’m now the primary parent, having to learn how to cook better and keep track of all the kids’ activities and such. Lots of things to do all the time. I may not be able to spend as much time as I would like on the Dope. . .
