Morning, mumpers! I didn’t make it in here yesterday as I was too busy, and am sneaking in first thing because today I have back-to-back meetings from 10am until 4pm. So far, meeting with my boss at 10am, senior admins meeting at 11am, union meeting at 12.00, school forum at 1pm and SharePoint training thing at 2.30pm, and once that’s finished it will be time to go home. Not doing any actual work today then
Today it’s 9c/47f with a predicted high of 10c50f and mostly sunny. That accounts for why it’s cloudy and overcast out there. Weather app says “Enjoy today, tomorrow could very well fucking suck ass.”
You lot have been very chatty, and I have read much but retained little.
doggio I didn’t realise you lived so close to woodland, nice pics, good to see Spot out and about. Now we just need some good news about Darci.
hippie beautiful quilting again, I am in awe of your talents!
shoe much as we are keen to have a friend for Shadow, Rental Cat will be returning to her foster home when said fosterer comes back from his holiday. She is obviously happy and settled there, so she will go back and if Shadow has proved himself amenable to a companion, we’ll be looking for another one to foster ourselves.
No big news here, I called the vets to order a big bottle of Loxicom for Shadow as it seems to be helping him. He is still more vocal than usual but it doesn’t seem to be pain-related now. The meds may well be helping his old bones too, he fair fired down the stairs this morning after telling me (I think) it was past time for breakfast, and I needed to clear up the massive poo he’d left for me. Fortunately it was all in the litter tray so that was a bonus!
I made myself a t-shirt with it in English, and I made one for my mom in Polish. I wish I’d heard it decades ago!!
It is here, unless you get propane installed. I prefer cooking on gas, but I think the last place I lived that had gas was the house I bought in Baltimore in 1980 - I lived there all of 3 years, then back to the world of electric. Dammit.
Unless you live in an area with crappy soil, then it despairs and gives up. There’s a lot of clay in my gardens. Some things apparently love it, but things that I want to grow apparently hate it. Gardening here is occasionally a challenge…
I guess that’s what’s heading our way for the weekend… Dammit. And for the most part, temps are staying below average. Dammit.
FCD spent much of yesterday pulling wires for the thrusters. It will save us a few $$ not having the installers do it. He’s been working closely with the head electrician and he has pulled a few wires in his day. He’s hoping to get it finished today.
My plans for the soggy upcoming weekend is steam cleaning the carpets. When Taz was having his seizures, they’d finish with him lying there, drooling, so there are lots of spots that need attention. I’ll empty the dining room first and do that, but the big furniture in the other two rooms will stay put and I’ll clean around them. It’s not ideal to have the carpets wet when it’s wet outside, but it’ll be cool enough that I can have the pellet stove burning, which dries the air, which should help the floors dry. As you can see, I have a fun weekend planned!
Today, tho, it’s the Terrible-not-quite-Two-Toddler. He can be sweet and adorable and giggly, and just that quick, the brows knit and the demon emerges. At least I’m bigger than he is so he can’t beat me up, but sometimes his expression says he’s contemplating it!
I think I’ll be glad when he switches from babbling to English - at least I’ll know what he’s going on about. The kid apparently has opinions!
A “mistake” quilt? Kinda like Where’s Waldo? Except it’s Find the BooBoo! I’m pretty sure even your worst work surpasses the best I could do. I was never brave enough to venture into the world of quilting.
G’ morning, all! Still sleepy fish swimming around today, but since I’m the one who needs to get CtE to school, awake I must be. It’s 53F here in Nashville, supposed to get to 69F. Definitely bringing a water bottle to the field trip!
Yeah, I know they are, which scares me. I think the one incident when they were at Universal last month, when a guy gave them a hard time for wearing a skirt into the men’s room.
Thank you. Mistakes can and are made (they came out as enby 2 years ago and I still slip up.) I find it a lot easier when writing because I can go back and edit. I only have a real problem when someone does it intentionally because they don’t get my kid and think they are doing it for attention.
Thanks for the hugs, Doggio. Come home, Darci!
This made me laugh out loud, then have to read it too Hubby. "He’s not wrong, " was his chuckled reply.
Sorry that irk came through but glad that it’s at least it’s to a place you enjoy.
Even mother of two… no, wait. Mother of three, though the eldest (Hubby) has been getting more helpful.
When it comes to BtY, all the time it seems. Parenting a kid with ASD going through puberty is not fun and not something I’d wish on my worst enemy. CtE doesn’t quite as often make me have to be the bad guy, but when I do, it’s usually because their depression is keeping them from doing things that need to be done. They thank me for it later.
I took one tai chi class at my local library and intended to continue but life got busy. I do have a book that I may pull out to do on my own.
Sensei , the kids will really thank you. And I was happy to read the words “just” when talking about fun in learning. A lot of teachers try to pull fun out all together.
susan, I’m still torn on 9/11 emotion bringing things. On the one hand, over 20 years. On the other, I still have vivid memories of crying everyday as I walked through Penn Station seeing all the missing posters.
Now I should probably put on clothing so I don’t get arrested taking CtE to school. Have a great day, all!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘ Tis 66 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 75 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted for the day. I shall call the other insurance company today and be ready to go into I need to speak to the manager mode if necessary. Hopefully there will be sloth and general overall uselessness as well. Sup shall be chili/onion/cheese/slaw dawgs with oven fries. Fart fest to follow.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then onward into the day! Rah.
She was actually quite good with the poke. It was a bit of a paperwork snafu that had to be straightened out. She was also too chatty for my liking, which explains why we were kept waiting for our appointment.
Man, why do I always wake up stoopit early on my days off?
Also, I forgot to bring home any juice or Powerade from irk last night, and now I’m stuck drinking water, like some sort of peasant.
Woe is me! Pity my life!
On the plus side, we got a new crew member yesterday, and she is awesome. Apparently she worked at another location so she’s already like 95% trained (just had to bring her up to speed on a few details that differ) and she’s meticulous & a hard worker. I kept whispering to my manager, “I love her! She’s awesome!”
There’s apparently some drama with her having an unhinged family member who may or may not show up at work to hassle her, but I didn’t pry about the details. I just met her.
However, she is now part of our little cult … um, family … ehrm, crew … and that means circling protective wagons.
Anyone asks for her by name, fetch a manager. We may start keeping the side door locked. Precautions like that.
But even with all that, I’m excited to have her on our team.
Now time for First Breakfast, then back to bed. It’s not even quite 8 a.m. this is just ungodly!
It’s a tricky balance between no fun and too much fun and each class is different. My 7th grade class is too wild and drives other teachers crazy. The other teacher was just playing with them and most of them weren’t learning anything.
My 9th grade class is too quiet and I’m working on getting them to be more lively.
Now on the train into irk on a beautiful sunny warm morning. Very serene. Finally.
Had a minor delay getting out my front door then had very bad luck w almost all the the traffic lights to the station. Had to jog from my car to the platform dragging my bags. Train pulled away about 15 seconds after I got on. Had I missed it I’d have gotten back in my car and driven to work, but would not have had time to fiddle w my work prep, nor to yak with you along the way. Whew!
On the train had a flail trying to fill out the Colombian immigration online form that is required before departure. The usual type a few few boxes then click [next] … for about 10 (!) pages. After 2 attempts where it just went dead on page 7 I gave up. We’ll sort it out when we get there.
Other than that Her Ladyship yet snoozes hawtly back home, and I’m close to needing to wrap up here & hike from the train to the plane.
Sensei, you sound like a very good teacher, I think the kids will adjust quickly and the parents may be surprised at how well they are suddenly speaking English.
Shoe, sounds like new crew member will be an asset, but hope family member doesn’t find out about her transfer.
swampy, best of luck with the Insurance folks.
Real Fish, that is a load of responsibility you have with those two kids, and you’re doing it about as well as any human can. IMHO. And in Tennessee no less, not widely known for it’s understanding…
FCM, can you rent those cleaners? Having tried the spray and mop versions, I’m suddenly motivated to try that…of course, I’ll probably lie down until motivation goes away… Never have used propane in my life, so at 70 it’s probably to late to start.
boo fae, hugs for Shadow and hope he keeps improving. And boo for all the meetings…minutes will be kept and hours will be lost.
Kitten MItten, maybe your tired spells are from hanging around such sloth-people like me and swampy. Or just getting tired watching FCM and the others haul as… work a lot.
Have moved my car outside to the curb to make room for the (eventual) carpet re-attachers today, but it’s also trash pickup day so large vehicles will be moving in the cul-de-sac, so I may have to re-locate it. Rain now and more rain this afternoon, so it’s likely there will be no soccer practice today. Temps only getting to 65F.
Ok, need to take some action, all y’all have a good Thorsday.
Today is the Spring Feast here at the Tribal College, which seems to be one of the big dates on the Ojibwe calendar. I found out completely by accident at the very last minute that women are expected to wear skirts, so I get to wear the ribbon skirt that my friend gave me.
I’m a little nervous about blundering into some kind of cultural faux pas. I’m probably overthinking it, as I tend to do.
Heaved, went to Harris Teeter, and grabbed some work gloves at Ace Hardware.
Mine Creek Greenway. If you cut down those trees, you could see downtown. it’s a great place to exercise a dog, but not to look for one.
COME HOME DARCI! THERE’S CHEESE!
It needs a square with the word “messtake” on it.
A North American dude flying in and out of Cali after one day? Dude, you’re gonna get profiled
My niece has made the transition. In the beginning I told him that, as an old guy, I may make a few mistakes in the beginning but that I supported him 100% and that he is La Famiglia and I love him. His parents are ReTrumplicans and are supportive on the surface but it is plain that deep down they are only paying lip service. Charley is now in the second year of Med School.
Shoe, I think you should offer JtC a job as security.
I’ve got a training call today at noon for my new inventory gig. Supposed to last 90 minutes or less. After that I should be getting offered projects within the next couple weeks. I’m still not 100% sure this will be a good fit, but we need the money and it’s very low risk. I did have to buy steel-toed shoes and liability insurance, but they’re both tax-deductible, and anyway I’ll make back what I paid out with about two days worth of working.
After the call, I think it’ll finally be time to get Murph off the floor and on the wall. The banged-up hand is fine.
Conked back out; have re-emerged at the crack of noon. Much better!
You’re new to this tribe, right? In which case, they oughta be aware that you don’t know all the ins & outs, and while they might gently correct you, if anyone gets outraged just cuz you didn’t know something, then even the esteemed Miss Manners herself would point out that they’re being rude, not you.
All that being said, I’m pretty much the reigning Grand Champion of Overthinking, so I get how inevitable that sometimes becomes.
