(OLD) The Dessert MMP!

ohmy! what an abso cutie! i would velcro that puppy to me. good heavens!

Arrrgh, Sari, too much cuteness at this hour of the morning!! Seriously, I think it will be good for you and Sah-son and Echo. And lovely stories.

Sensei, didn’t realize you had kids (which as I think you’ve mentioned your wife, seems logical). Hope the internet improves.

Taters, sounds like an interesting, albeit exhausting week; beats the heck out of the old cubicle farm. And if I read this right, the ‘M’ in MPA is “Master’s”, so shouldn’t she be able to master said prickly person? You do need to take time off now and then.

I’m checking the water meter daily or every other day to see what the usage is and am recording it. So far so good, I’ll probably drop off to every week and then forget about it, but right now I’ve just figured out my costs and am motivated… Pretty poseys posing.

Wheelie, Murphy seems to be coming along nicely, with his Cousin, Mr. Law, not interfering too much. Looking forward to seeing the whole thing.

Umm, your wife-unit doesn’t read here, does she…

Cat Glove, you did a good thing for Manager and hope it comes back in good karma for you. And I had never heard of a breakfast pizza before, but since I have been known to eat White Castle hamburgers for breakfast, it doesn’t surprise me.

Flyboy, I’m in Mrs. LA’s corner on this one, she needs to keep hammering Mattress Depot on this. Looking to see the completed greenhouse here one of these days.

Real Fish, I second JtC and FCM suggestions to look into Government work. It does provide a fairly good wage (at least on the USG level) and if CtE has any skills and abilities, he can rise to a level that is, if not wealthy, can be comfortable. I’m speaking of US Government jobs; states will vary.

red, my annual Doctor’s visit is in about 2 hours, so hopefully both of us will get seals of approval.

Ok, onward into the day. Supposed to get to 72F and the rain has mostly left the area, so soccer should be played on Sattiday. Meanwhile the doc, the bank, and the gym are on my list today. All y’all take care.

Cat Glove, I’m glad that the Bachelor Shower went off without a hitch (other than the manager not quite getting it when he walked in.) I’ll keep my fingers crossed for tonight to be the Million Dollar Pasta Casserole night!

flyboy, yeah, after 3 days sleeping on a mattress that’s too hard, when what was ordered was a softer mattress should not be a problem for a second return. I hope she either can get them to make good on getting her the mattress she wants or refusing the $2K that she paid for something she can’t use.

red, I’m curious which way your cousin’s child will be want to be identified in old pictures. I’ve read some people that have said they’re fine with the old name/pronouns being used because, at that time, that’s who they were. Others that want everything changed because the use of their deadname/old pronouns was a painful time that they don’t want to go through again.

Regarding the rain, it started just as I was dropping CtE off at school and going to get Pete. I thought I was going to cause an accident once but thank heavens for anti-lock breaks.

FCM, I’m glad that MIL got her senior apartment. It’s going to be easier for everyone involved, or so it sounds.

wheelie, that sounds like a full enough day yesterday! The power screwdriver dying was the universe’s way to say put this aside for the day. I hope you get more progress today.

JtC, some of the people that I’ve found to remember to switch pronouns are among the older population. It’s mostly my generation that seems to get upset by people having different pronouns than they were used to. There’s a lot of great things about being a Generation Xer, but not the tendency to look down on anything that is different from their generation. sigh Maybe I’m just feeling bitter, I guess.

I haven’t talked to CtE about getting a government job. It’s definitely an option to look into. Thanks for the suggestion!

doggio, thank you for the hugs.

sari, I’m with you 100% on unusual names. Though I did get a lot of strange looks when I would talk about my last cat. We named her Kami (calm-ee) in honor of the person who helped us pay for her shots and getting her fixed. I was thinking in terms of the spelling so the word “Commie” never entered my brain until one of BtY’s PDO teachers gave me a “do I have this right”? look that I realized how it sounded. So I started giving her name with the spelling. The puppy is so adorable!

FCM, I thought you were wallowing in wealth! My rose colored glasses have been shattered!

Taters of course we missed you! I’m glad that you survived the week of travel. And I don’t blame you for wanting to have the day off. You’re a good person, agreeing to help the MPA when you’ve already had a really busy day. I hope you can take time this weekend to focus on you.

Sensei, yeah, we’ve had a few of those moments where the loudness of the kids has disturbed Hubby while he was working. In the old apartment, he worked downstairs and the kids were usually in their room so the only problems were CtE tapping out rhythms on their bed while thinking and hearing it come through the ceiling. Now, Hubby’s “office” (since he’s still working from home both for his primary job and his tutoring) is in the dining room with the kids’ room right next to him. There are many times that CtE gets upset at a game they’re playing and we can hear the shouting through the closed door. Or BtY feels that he’s been wronged in some way, shape or form. I’ll admit, I’m really looking forward to Hubby going to the office on a regular basis. Though my luck, it will be right after school lets out for the summer.

I managed to write up to the time I need to walk out the door with BtY. I’m going to spend an hour or so getting some fud before I have to go back to the school for Project Lit. (And metal mouse, I’ll try to remember to ask her about finding a local school that participates for you.) My afternoon will be… probably laundry and cleaning. Unless my back keeps acting up. Then it will be cussing as I’m trying to do laundry and cleaning.

Have a great day/night/whatever time of day it is for you!

Yep - we found out yesterday. So during May, we’ll get them moved from the fancy-pants apartment where they are now to the senior community where she’ll be able to make friends and she’ll be lots closer to us. Yay!

Yeah, I know our yacht and our palatial estate are deceiving. < snerk > Oddly enough, it was only when I was within about 5 or 6 years of retiring that we got really serious about our finances. Not that we were careless before, but it always felt like there’d be time to get ready to retire… and then POW!!! But we were both senior enough in our paygrades that we were able to wipe out debt except for the mortgage, and put more effort into saving. And, frankly, if it wasn’t for our daughter’s financial misfortunes (like $4K in car repairs in a month) we’d be better off. But we can’t let her and our grands suffer because stuff happens. It’s not like they spend their income on hookers and blow…

Right about 9:30, I finished today’s round of carpet cleaning, The dining room looks so much better, and while the area rug in the living room has enough of a pattern that dirt doesn’t show much, I could still tell by the gross rinse water that it is cleaner, too. Ceiling fan in the living room and tower fan in the dining room should both aid in drying. And I de-hairified the carpet cleaner ahead of the next round of cleanage.

I also cleaned the terlit, sink, and shower doors in our bathroom (I cleaned the shower floor yesterday. I don’t know what’s come over me!!! Last chore for today will be repairing the hall terlit. FCD replaced a seal, but it’s still running 3 or 4 times an hour, so I’m going to use one of the replacement kits that the manufacturer sent and put in a whole new unit. I hope to heck that this finally does it.

And it’s still raining and dreary outside. But my gardens are getting a drink, so there’s that.

She had the first mattress for about a month before deciding she couldn’t sleep on it. They took that one back, and she got the replacement last week. As I said, she hated it after three nights. They wouldn’t take it back. If you buy a mattress based on how it felt in the store, the mattress they deliver should feel the same. ‘Well, a lot of people lay on it’ is misrepresentation, in my (and my wife’s) opinion.

She called the credit card companies for both purchases and filed disputes. She may call Mattress Depot USA’s registered agent on Saturday.

What’s the difference between a registered agent, and a manager? SoS and DoR show the owner’s name, but he may be down in San Jose.

“So you’re saying your samples do not represent the actual product that will be delivered to me?”

Heck of a way to do business…

An otter just loped across the back yard. It’s smaller than the one we were seeing a couple of months ago.

Deeply dreary day here looking out my window. Flat grey sky and must have rained during the night. Maybe that’ll keep the pollen down a little, it’s been horrid lately.

Cat cuddling on my lap, keeping me from my first cuppa joe but if I type enough she’ll relocate, complete with an air of mistreated royalty.

My big plans for the day are to teach my refugee literacy class for 90 minutes and then go to the pharmacy for my appt to get my Covid booster booster (the newly authorized second booster for geezers). Need to do enough adulting to transfer enough $$$ between banks that my mortgage can get auto-paid on the 30th. Call in my prescription refills~heady stuff.

Except the weather is sooo grey and dreary that I need to turn on the overhead light even though I’m sitting next to a big bay window and the wind is making mournful sounds on top of it. Just don’t wanna do nut tin’. Not seeing the grandkidlets Sunday because their upstart other grandparents from Montana are staying with them isn’t helping.

At least my state tax refund came in. Now waiting in the bigger federal one. Hoping I can stash some of that one to have an iPad replacement cushion for when this weary one gasps it’s last. Worrying about that weighs me down too since most of my connection to the world and people is through it. I really need a safety net about it.

And, like our dear shoe, I have some annoying adulting to do, chasing down down bankers and doctors, etc, who promised to get back to me but haven’t. Add a oxygen concentrator supplier to that list. I hate the loaner one I have. It’s battery is good for only 3.5 hours where the other one I had was good for 10 hours. Big difference. Once I manage to drag myself out of the house, very few of my days last only three and a half hours. It’s not very realistic to try and keep up with a 5+ year old and her 22 month old tiny terrorist brother, spread over a three level house and backyard, while plugged into an outlet.

Maybe some :coffee: will help.

Heaved in Smalls, then got sent to the 100 table again.

So I take it “Slartibartfast” is out?

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Yes! and I bet Polar did, too.

Coffee always helps!

New dishwasher has been installed, and the first load is running. Yay!

Yay! But don’t let my dishwasher hear this. It’s coming up on 19 years old and for the last few years, it’s made occasional (and more frequent) noises - I think it’s the pump. If it dies, it’s not a crisis - I know how to wash dishes by hand and we’ll survive. But I’m not ready to tempt fate yet.

Seemed kinda wrinkly to me. I hope it grows into its skin. Either that or it needs ironing.

That was about what the streets looked like yesterday early afternoon in sunny Cali.

Cars nose to tail going 10-20 mph with motorized bicycles, motor scooters, and light motorcycles jammed two abreast between each lane of cars and them all goin 15-20 mph faster than the cars. And the number of lanes of vehicles was certainly not related to any lines that might or might not be painted on the street nor any concept of safety as we’re used to.

Mind the potholes.

Her Ladyship has cured me of a few of my bad habits. I refuse to let her cure all of them. I’m extra generous when traveling in the 3rd world because a dollar (or ten) means something very different to the locals than it does to me.

Yaay indeed! This has been a long and arduous haul for all of you. Especially for Mom.

Awoke well pre-dawn and left the hotel before the first sign of light. Much quicker ride through the city boulevards at that hour, but lots of folks up and out hustling already. Launched off into the gathering day, dodging mountains as usual. Got to MIA in good time and managed to park a couple minutes before a rainstorm closed the ramp and would have prevented our docking. Hustle through deboarding, hike to / through immigration / customs, hike to people mover, ride PM, hike to train, hop on and now we ride in airconditioned WiFi-equipped spendor at ~65mph while it steadily rains outside and the nearby freeway I’d otherwise be driving on is going 35mph.

Home in a bit. Perchance to lunch & snack. 3 days off Sat-Mon then back in the barrel again for May.

Had my allergy shots yesterday and they are kicking my butt today. I’m gonna binge Law & Order and be a drain on society….

They just haven’t inflated him yet.

Very cute pup, Sari.
People ask me if we’re going to get another dog (or two). I tell them I don’t want another dog, I want my dogs.

Wifey had a dishwasher before she owned me, but I’ve never owned one. We’ve been washing our dishes by hand for thirty-(mumble, mumble) years. The houses we’re looking at now all have them however.
Speaking of which, that’s the agenda for today. We’re gonna drive down to Madras and look at 2 more houses. I’m getting sorry I said anything.

Sorry about you bed woes, Flyboy. Hope the spousal unit can get some satisfaction.

We ran the air conditioning option for the first time on our new mini-splits Wednesday. It worked fine, but it doesn’t turn off, no matter what we set the temp at. Of course the manual that came with it was absolutely no help at all. Harumppphhhh.

Also, I need to call my PCP and try to get her to re-up one of my prescriptions. Trouble is, she’ll prolly want me to come in and see her, and I won’t be able to get in for 3 months. That’s too long to go without. Wifey ran into that with her recently and now she’s looking for another doctor.
Enough.

I decided to run down to the newly remodeled DG Market to see what they wanted for eggs. Large are $2.25/doz - they’re $2.99 at Food Lion! So I got a couple of dozen.

Just as I came into the house, the power burped, just enough to mess up 2 clocks and the countertop ice maker. But all is reset. And the carpets are just about dry. When FCD gets home, we can put the furniture back in place - huzzah! I was afraid we’d have to wait till tomorrow.

So, it’s time to get back to my recliner.

Teeth cleaning: Check. 22 pound bag of kitty kibble: Check. Boots… Another 20 minutes. Trying a breakfast place while I wait. I ordered a birria omelette.

The first time you walk away from a machine that does it all for you is MAGIC. :blue_heart::herb::green_heart:

ETA: gotta go t’irk. But there’s a kitty snoozing on my leg. What to do?

IMGr is being weird. Lesse if this works:

Are Echo and Lily middle school girls? :stuck_out_tongue: That puppy is cuteness overload. <3

Tell him you need to earn $$$ to buy kibble, treats and toys.

Yay on MIL’s new apartment Mooooooom! I think it will be a good move for her.

fishy, I’ll be asking him the next family reunion (if he goes…he’s in NYC now), but also think that editing the name to Alexis / Alex would work to identify him as a child. It would tell later generations that they are the same person and give the other name for anyone doing genealogy to reference.

Went to the doctor, had a good checkup (well, the labs aren’t in, but not bad for the ones that they got right away), found a pain med that is much less expensive than the last one prescribed ($17 even w/o insurance) and am home, ready to take sheets and towels out of the dryer and make the bed before Sis and BIL get in.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I’m not sure that came out quite the way you intended. :nudge-nudge:

This on the other hand …

is pure comic genius.
