Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
It’s only a 6 hour drive away, if you’re in the Savannah area.

I know this is a little late, but for future reference, if your Target or WalMart has an optical shop, they will replace little screws whether you bought your glasses there or not. I stopped at Target once to get one of the cushions on the nose pads replaced and they didn’t even charge me! Might save you a long drive if there’s a next time.
This cracked me up more than i should have!
Sweetie, you’re anything but!! Plus this place is perfect for whining - the first line of the post can be a warning of what follows, making it easy for anyone to skip it. You get it out of your system, and you don’t have to face rolled eyes or people just walking away - so everyone seems polite whether they are or not. That is the magic of the MMP!!
But I know what you mean. There are times I hesitate to unload my miseries, but I’m OK with the notion that some or all of you will skip over the post and get on with life. Meanwhile, I’ve unburdened myself. And it’s cheaper than therapy!!
I-95 goes thru both - does that count??
You know Spot is just screwing with you…
I have noticed that if I sleep with my arms across my torso (I’m a back sleeper) that my hands feel sorta nuimb when I wake up, but if my arms are at my sides, I’m fine. I’m guessing I’m pinching nerves somehow? Or restricting blood flow? So, BBBoo - should I see my doc about this right away or can it wait to be mentioned at my next physical (next month, I think…) No pain or loss of dexterity, just a weird sorta-numbness for a little while.
It was 39-stoopit-degrees this morning! What the heck??? I did tell Daughter last night to make sure both kids have long sleeves or hoodies when I take them to the playground this afternoon (low 60s forecast.) We’re about 10° below what’s normal for this week. Freaky weather.
On the garden front, I have 9 'mater plants that I bought, plus 5 cuke vines that I started from seed. The 2 cherry 'mater plants died - dunno why but I’m not happy - they were $5.50 each!! And I don’t have the receipt so I can’t take them back and whine. Dammit. Nothing where I planted peppers, but the seeds didn’t look good, so I’m not too surprised. Maybe I’ll go to Lowe’s and get a couple plants.
Laundry today, Tobias today. That pretty much sums it up.
Happy Tuesday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 56 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 78 and cloudy for the day. I need to see about gettin’ twuck to the hospital today. The good news there is that I can take it to the one I want to use. I also need to find out about the rental situation. Other than that sloth and general overall uselessness is the plan of the day. Sup shall be cubed steak, rice’n gravy, field peas, butter beans and okra cooked together, and cornbread.
Bauer howdy from southwest Jawja.
Doggio here’s hopin’ for good news about Darci today.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Tuesday Y’all!
Do you not have your 'stang any longer?
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/47f with a predicted high of 10c/50f and mostly sunny. Weather app says “Partly cloudy? More like partly cloudy fucking bullshit.” Clearly unimpressed with today’s outlook. It is, however, sunny. I have been outside to haul the biiiiiiig bin back off the pavement and left it in its rightful place.
Busy morning here, I had a departmental meeting at 9am that went on for nearly 2hrs so have just got their version of minutes done. Funny bunch, they don’t have proper minutes for this, just action points, suggestions and “things to note”. I have to say it doesn’t make much sense to me, even looking back at their previous minutes, it’s hard to work out why things are in certain places. I’ll write it up and send it to the Chair, she can fix it.
doggio sending continued wishes for Darci’s safe return
swampy glad to hear the police report is done and the agent says you need a rental. Fingers crossed for a speedy settlement too.
Bayer hello from the other side of the Pond!
nellie never complain about coming in here to say good or bad things, this is the place to do it, and we need to know how all our mumper friends are doing! Also, hope you get out of your funk soon
BBBoo you is still good people
Pilot I hope Her Ladyship is able to see a medic of some kind today, it does sound like she needs a bit of help if she’s been poorly for this length of time.
sari I’m glad you and Echo got out to the park and had some fun.
In other pet-related news, we are having a rental cat for a couple of weeks! Our friend who runs Little Paws Cat Haven relies on a multitude of fosterers to help look after all the cats in their care. One of said fosterers is going on holiday in May and need someone to look after the one female cat he’s fostering. We have space, and it would be a good trial to see if Shadow will get on with a single female mog…so on 7th May we’ll be trotting off to collect Luna for two weeks. 'im indoors is rather excited about it, so I hope everyone gets on with everyone else!
Morning all. Handyman guy is supposed to be here today to fix the wall and baseboards, we’ll see when he shows up, hopefully this morning. Another nice spring day, about 70F but a 40% chance of rain tonight and tomorrow according to the Weather Wizards. Might have a gym trip in my future plans depending on how things play out at home.
Pilot, yeah, Real Fish already pointed out that I was referring to their visit to Georgia in the summer, sorry I didn’t make it clear. And if I had included Butters down in Florida, I think we would have had him penned in (albeit I don;t know if we have any SC Mumpers). And Real fish, I was thinking about you in Tennessee, but what was left of my brain last night got you confused with Cat glove
JtC, yeah, I dimly remember young and stupid, several events in college make me shake my head these days.
doggio, have to look for that on the shelves; stuff I’ve tried doesn’t seem to do much. Oh, and {{ }} for Darci’s return.
BBBoo, I second FCM’s recommendation; have gotten a couple screws replaced at my local Wal-Mart, no fuss and no cost.
swampy, good luck on the repair and rental. Last two times I’ve had to take my car in for body work (been quite awhile), there was an Enterprise rental place right next door to the repair shop.
boo fae, I once spent a long night rewriting minutes in the style the customer wanted, so I feel your pain. And hoping Luna and Mog hit it off rather than hit each other…
OK, onward into the day. All y’all have a good 2sday.
Morning to everyone, the day is winding down here.
I’m teaching at a small, private school and the previous English teacher didn’t really teach! He’s been here for The kids can’t speak much! It’s a challenge. I’m used to kids that can understand at least some English.
Good morning, kids!
I got a lot of my schoolwork done yesterday. Now I just have final papers to compose for three classes and I’ll officially be done working on my Master’s. Flying to Pennsylvania for graduation around the 5th… Not really looking forward to it, but my mom is coming and it’s important to her.
Today I don’t have any substantial job-work to do, so I’ll try to get outlines put together for those papers and call that sufficient. D&D tonight, which is about the only thing I reliably look forward to these days - most of the party are my besties back in California, so it’s soul-sustaining to hear their voices once a week.
Bayer, I have heard quite frequently that “you don’t need to be a teacher” to teach English in China or Japan - that all you have to do is engage in conversation with the kids and they pick it up. I always thought that was a dubious claim. I wonder if that’s the kind of so-called “teacher” your predecessor was.
Boo fae, good luck with the foster kitty! Incidentally, Shadow was the name of my favorite cat growing up. She was a black cat, but she was named “Shadow” because she’d follow so closely at your heels that you’d be endlessly tripping on her! She was very good to me when I needed her badly, and I miss her very much.
There are a lot of teachers who do that, but it doesn’t go very well.
You need a curriculum and lesson plans. Who would have thought?
And it looks like he just played games and talked to the best students. Sigh.
MOOOOOOM ‘stang is long gone. Sold him to a friend who wanted it to give to his son, so son could have a car in college. That was eight years ago and he’s still drivin’ it. Not bad for a 2005 model.
Really?? How did I miss/forget that? (No geezer cracks…)
Tobias and I are watching Little Baby Bum. My brain is turning to mush. How much longer to nap time?
God, I’m still so hurt from the breakup. I feel so fucking betrayed. This hurts so bad. It’s so lonely.
Okay, my complaint in general about desserts here in the U.S. is that most of them are too full of sugar. For example, I love a good carrot cake, but the large majority that I’ve tried have frosting so incredibly sweet that it could be labeled. “Type II Diabetes in a Jar”. I’m thinking that, with few exceptions, the kind of dessert I like has to be home made and not bought.
So, anyone know of any exceptions to this seeming sad rule?
They are nocturnal stealth predators that are just barely too small to be lethal to sleeping humans. I certainly would never have one in the bedroom while I was sleeping. There’d have to be a closed latched door between them and me.
Funny, but I have sorta the opposite problem.
Right now my life is end-to-end awesome. But describing my day to day life here seems impolite as hell to me what with all the other folks legitimately beset by great trials and tribulations. Not that I’d ever want to gloat, but I don’t want to be that tone-deaf dude complaining of trifles while others are dying.
So I’m pulling my punches, but for the opposite reason to dear nellie. I have had, and will have, my share of challenges great and small. Just not right now. Karma’s a bitch and I’d rather not dangle temptation in front of Her.
Short heaving today. I droe around a couple of neighborhoods, but no sign of Darci.
You know Spot is just screwing with you…
Well, he is a cat…
“Bah.” - Spot

for future reference, if your Target or WalMart has an optical shop, they will replace little screws whether you bought your glasses there or not
(And metal mouse) thanks for the tip-did not know that and it could turn out to be useful to me as I tend to be kinda rough on glasses and, for my friend, inexplicable and harsh things happen to eyeglasses in nursing homes, so I’m sure it will come up again. Funny thing, after I went to the optical shop for the glasses fix, my next stop was down the road to Walmart for a few things, one of which was a little eyeglass repair kit with teeny screws and a tiny screwdriver. Of course the challenge there will be keeping track of the wee little kit until the next time one of the hinge screws is loose. I give myself odds of about 30% that I’ll be able to put my hands on it next time she needs it.
should I see my doc about this right away or can it wait to be mentioned at my next physical (next month, I think…)
If it were me, I think mentioning it at your check-up is plenty soon enough. Especially since it wears off soon after you’re up and about and blood is freely circulating again. Don’t be surprised if after a long day of certain types of labor on your boat makes it happen when you’re not asleep. If it does, make a point to take 5 or 10 minute breaks every 45 minutes and do sometime else with those hands and arms, stretches or an easy stroll around the boatyard, with them not clenching a hand tool or reaching overhead. Drink some water or Diet Coke~hydration counts too.
so on 7th May we’ll be trotting off to collect Luna for two weeks. 'im indoors is rather excited about it, so I hope everyone gets on with everyone else!
And if ‘im indoors acts up, foster him somewhere else.
I’m deep in there myself, GodBod. I don’t have anything remotely helpful to say other than that you’re not alone in it. Being welcomed into a warm group of friends here in the MMP has been a big help for me, though, and I hope you will remember to engage here as often as you can manage.
spot is so very cute.

Woke up to raining snow. I am not amused.
Like several others, it’s hard for me to narrow down a “favorite” dessert…
And, like everyone else, I’m kinda heartbroken (but still hopeful) about Darci’s escape!
The trips to/from NJ and my uncle’s funeral – and related family meals – all went well. *whew* On the way up I spent some time on I-95 and the first five exits of the NJ Turnpike surrounded by a large number of Thunderguards bikers, but when the “cars only” lanes began (at Exit 6/the PA Turnpike) they stayed on the other part. I wasn’t ever bothered by/worried about their presence, but the noise from the bikes interrupted my road-trip singing. Then I hit a bad accident on the Garden State Parkway, but it only cost me ~30 minutes. All in all I was able to spend a little more than an hour visiting with the cousin on my mom’s side on Sunday afternoon, before driving to my hotel/the funeral location. Dinner that night was blessedly drama-free, and yesterday’s funeral, graveside service, and repast/lunch also went smoothly. And the drive home was miraculously traffic-free! I got home at a little after 7:30pm. It was a good trip and I’m very glad I went, but I’m also very glad to be back home.
This morning I woke up before 6:30 – which is ridiculously early for me – and left the house at a little after 7:00 to pick Bailey up from the kennel: I took her straight to the vet, to have the mass on her leg removed. The vet called at a little after 10:00 to say she was all done! They want to keep an eye on her for a little while, so I won’t go pick her up until noon (right now it’s ~11:30). The biopsy results will take at least a week.
I went to the grocery store on the way back from dropping her off, and I’m off work today, so after I bring her home I won’t have anything else to do but watch her sleep. I do foresee a nap once we’re both settled on the couch: I’m still a little tired from the Sunday-Monday trip (and not getting great sleep in the hotel room Sunday night), plus I have some brain fog from waking up so early today.
My NAACP branch is having its first in-person general membership meeting of the year this evening, but I’m going to skip it. Bailey has to wear a an inflatable e-collar for the next three days while the incision site gets air/starts to heal, and it’ll be her first time wearing one so I want to keep an eye on how she does with it. I really hate to miss this meeting, both as a branch member and the Membership Committee Chair, but c’est la vie (surgery date options were limited, and today wound up being the best one). I’ve already notified the rest of the Executive Committee, and my Membership Committee team.
Time to put jeans and a bra back on, and go get my doggy! I’ll be more interactive later this week.
Tobias and I are watching Little Baby Bum.
At first glance I though that said Little Baby Burn, and I was wondering what the heck you were teaching the kid.
Repairman is here and is patching things up nicely, he can reuse some of the baseboard which may save me a dollar or two. Will have to re-paint the drywall he repaired, but I have the paint and brushes for it, so that is a task I am up for…tomorrow.
God bod, time heals wounds; keep looking around and meeting new people and it’ll ease some.
Tokyo Bayer = aspirin
I like it.
Oopsie, yeah for Bailey! Glad the funeral went as planned, even if the driving didn’t. And had to look up e-collar; I presume it replaces the Cone of Shame and looks like a life preserver. Most interesting.
OK, need to peek out and see how work is progressing. All y’all take care.
