(Old) The Heat Is On - A Heat Wave MMP

We see them rather frequently here, and even so, it’s still a thrill to see one. They are impressive birds, even when in the middle of an recently harvested field eating whatever.

Nope - woke to dry dry dry. But much is forecast starting this afternoon and continuing for a couple-three days. Fingers crossed…

Woke to 67 Ferrets and overcast - the days in the 90s are done for now. I just hope the forecast comes true - 2 or 3 days of showers will make my yard happy.

Oil guy showed up early - just after 7. I wasn’t quite ready for this - 212 gallons and $992 < choke-gasp-wheeze> But many oil industry experts predict rising prices and, very likely, shortages. So we’re ready for at least the next 2 winters, since we use pellets as our major heat source. Still, YOIKS!!!

I’m going to play Happy Homemaker today. We’re in serious need of rollsuckage, dusting < shudder>, scrubbing, and tidying. We mostly keep things more or less in order, but then there’s Otis. OK, it’s not all on him, but he is responsible for filling the vac canister with much black hair, not to mention all the leaf bits that come in on his coat. Anyway, good times ahead for me. Rah.

And speaking of ticks, we found a blood-filled one on our bedroom floor. Also thanks to Otis. Dammit. This is a really bad year for ticks and poison ivy.

I have such an exciting life.

Happy Thursday!!

“It’s always darkest just before the piano falls on you.” Oliver Faltz

Good morning. I checked the RADAR when I woke up, saw a big blob of green a couple of mile to the south and said, “I’m going back to bed.” No walkies, so we’ll have a little bundle of energy to deal with tonight.

Technically, today is Squeaky’s last day of school, but since it’s exams and his class for this period is on line, he’s still in bed. He and Spike are in for a rude awakening later, when they have a GI party for their Grandparents’ arrival tomorrow. The house is not in bad shape, but my MIL is a white glove type person.

I have my eye doctor follow up this morning because I screwed up yesterday, which might have been a good thing. My left eye is angry this morning. It’s watery, hurts, and will not focus. I did all the eye drops, so it should be fine.

Last night, I asked Mrs Magill if she’d be okay if I presented at the Pride Fest in a couple of weeks. She said, “If you want to.” We’ve been married long enough for me to know that means, “I’m not really okay with it, but I’ll support you if you do.” I do not want to push her out of her comfort zone. I’ll reassess as we grow closer to it. She did remind me that I would probably need to inform people at church, as the volunteers for our table will be looking for Maus, not Molly.

Well, there was a six hour shavasana in the middle of it. I wasn’t sleeping. I was practicing yoga. “Are you sitting around watching TV?” Nope! Yoga!

We have a robin nest under our deck. It’s established, so we can’t do anything with it. I guess I’ll need more rubber snakes.

Mornin’ all.

It’s 48F and sunny outside. The forecast calls for a daytime high of 76F and partly cloudy skies.

Lily, I’m sorry the “no bath” time has been stretched out a bit.

We have many bald eagles out here, and it’s pretty common to see them and hawks. I had a hawk sitting on my fence, breakfasting on another bird, a couple of years ago.

Loved the fox pictures! When we first moved out here to the Hill in the early nineties, fox sightings were common. Since they’ve built everything up so much, we don’t see them in my little area anymore. All the woods have been torn out to build houses. :frowning:

Zeus was restless last night and woke us at 2:45 a.m. I spent some time out in the backyard with him and then went back to sleep on the couch. This morning, he decided he needed to pee on the wall and the kitchen floor where it meets the hallway, right after he came back inside through the pet door.

Buster is less tense around him, and his concern with Zeus choosing one of his favorite toys has decreased, too. They even played a little tug-of-war (play bows and everything) yesterday. Maisie had a bad moment when the ice cream cups came out, but that was my husband’s fault. He served them all the cups in the same area. That’s okay with her and Buster, but not with Zeus. For the most part, Zeus is good (if a little barky in the yard), and I really hope he and my son can find a rhythm. My son is still not sure that Zeus will stay, but he really doesn’t want to turn him in to the animal shelter, either.

My son should be here around mid-afternoon to pick him up. Barring traffic issues, of course. It’s a bit of a drive from Bellingham to my place.

As for plans, I guess I’ll just do as much as I can while keeping an eye on Zeus. I tried to work in my garden yesterday, but all three dogs pushed past me when I opened the gate. It was a bit of a Keystone Cops kind of thing trying to wrassle them out of there.

Alright, it sounds like I need to let Zeus out. You all take care of yourselves.

I think I’ve finally discouraged the woodpecker that was making holes in our deck joist. I’m not really happy with the big, fat bee that hangs out under there, but apart from buzzing angrily, it hasn’t done anything to me, so live and let live, right?

Taking a break from all my June-Cleavering. Our bedroom was embarrassingly dusty, but not any more. So, our bedroom and bath are done, as are the hallway, the dining room, the living room, and a rollsuck in the kitchen. I need to clean the room I’m in, then mop the kitchen. In a bit.

I also put all the lap robes in the wash - I’d hate for one to go to someone with a dog allergy, so they’ll be folded right from the dryer into a plastic bag.

Whew!

Nice!!

Morning all. Up to micturate at 6am then back in bed until the trash truck woke me back up about 7:30, so have broken fast by murdering a bowl of Cheerios (yes, I am a cereal killer…). Bought 3 T-shirts more or less on a whim, I’m slowly recycling my old ones. Nothing on the agenda for today, so may actually perform house-irk if I can work up the ambition to. Had a little rain this morning, sun’s out right now but more rain is on the way. Only due to reach 77F today, so the HVAC should have the day off.

Nut, sounds like it was an all-around pleasant day, everyone should have them now and then.

boo fae, hope you survive the webinar, and i know what you mean about having participants with a comment on every little thing…

swampy, it’s the rainy season here too, a 25-75% chance of rain every day to the end of the month.

Hippie, Somehow those tags seem familiar, like I’ve seen that reference before…

**FCM **, looking at the weather maps, looks like most of the rain this morning and afternoon will be north of you, but perhaps this evening it’ll be wet. And echoing your YOIKS for the old costs; with the Hybrid car I usually only need to fill up once a month, and with the Kroger points I get $1.00-1.50/gallon off, but even with that it hurts to fill up these days.

Mollie, hope the eye Doc can help. And glad you and Mrs. Magill understand each other that well, it’ll help iron out the inevitable bumps in the road.

Taters, still a little worried about Zeus peeing in the house like that, you’d hope he would have outgrown it by now, but does sound like he is socializing better.

And that’s it for the morning report. My neighbor put my trash cans up by the garage (I do the same for them when I can) so need to get them in the garage but that can wait awhile. Take care all and have a good Thorsday.

57F at 1040 in the AM and FM. Breakfast was cornmeal pancakes and sausages.

Woke up in pain in both hips and my lower back, probably a result of yesterday’s exercise session. Still feeling it at midday.

The wife has a PT session this afternoon, if I can pry her out of the apartment. Otherwise another boring day interrupted only by housekeeping staff. I’m thinking of making a beef stroganoff, but probably not today. With the price of beef in the stratosphere, I want to make sure I do it right. Many years ago I used to make hamburger stroganoff, which, as I recall, was pretty good.

My youngest son turns 47 today. How is that possible?

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Talked to Sis this morning and we decided to postpone our day out to one where downpours aren’t predicted. That means a lazy day for me.

SIL just let me know that my great nephew passed his test to go into special forces air rescue in the navy. I’m so glad he’s found some direction. He’s 26 and worked in fast food management or in a warehouse while taking a few art classes at community college. He’s very intelligent, but just didn’t have much direction. His great grandfather served in the south Pacific in the navy during the second world war. His uncle also served a hitch in the mid nineties. I’m proud of him.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Good afternoon everyone. Today is wet (well not really, only .15 inch so far) and gray. The forest fog just barely burned off and it is about 60F.

Radar tells me there’s rain to the north and rain to the south. We have clouds and only 67 Ferrets. Theoretically there will be rain overnight and all of tomorrow. Place your bets…

Still waiting on my FexEx delivery. My bike and the accessories are coming today. FCD’s bike left Tucson this morning. They claim it will be delivered on Saturday. Maybe, if it’s being flown here. I’m guessing Tuesday.

Much cleaning was accomplished. I bagged all the lap robes and sent Jess a message to let her know they’re ready for pickup. In a few months I’ll order more yarn and start another batch.

My sweetie will have chicken wings for supper and I’ll have a chunk of mystery fish - might be mahi-mahi. His will be air fried, mine will be broiled. Sides TBD. For now, chillage.

The Senior Clerk called in, so I was running the 100 and 200 Slides today, except… 2/3 of the 200 Sort table sorters didn’t come in, and the other 2 were late. So they pull me, J the 300 Slide Clerk, and 2 of the loaders from the heaviest sets to sort tll they could find people. So instead of catching up on the left over damages, I was chasing my tail all day. When the sort wrapped up, I was about to start the damages, when a parade of Sups started bringing damages to me, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice style. At one point I asked one, “Did somebody give the Blueberries hammers today or something?”. So that took a while. I did my Senior Day shopping, afterwards, and the cashier noted I was late today. Spot is currently sulking, as I was 1. late, and 2. am making him eat the last bowl of old dry, flavorless bits before I open the new one. The painters have started on the front of the building.

Never seen one around here, although one time at band camp a hawk chased a small bird straight at my head at the mailbox.

Here, too.

So God hate’s Bill’s mom?

My damages and overgoods one is coming up soon. Oy.

Taking a break from the sweating at the gym, should be done within the hour and then home. Have an appointment for my semi-annual termite inspection tomorrow at 8am so no late night escapades this evening. Light rain has been on and off all day, looks like North of me is getting the bulk of it.

And back to my last go on the treadmill. Take care all.

FedEx has done it again.

The truck turned up about an hour after the delivery window I was given. No big - I’m retired and I didn’t have anywhere to go. But instead of 2 boxes, I only got the small one with the accessories. The trike itself apparently wasn’t on the truck despite what the emails told me. I asked the driver, and was told “I have to find it - I’ll be back.”

Does that mean he left it elsewhere? Forgot to load it? Didn’t feel like digging it out of his truck? WT actual F???

And the box I did get looks like it was drop-kicked across the country. Fortunately, the boxes within the box seem to be fine. I’m pretty sure the metal cargo racks are OK, and I already checked the mirrors - they’re good. So, where is my trike?? Dammit.

FCD’s theoretically left Tucson (or was it Phoenix?) this afternoon. I’m pretty sure it won’t be here the day after tomorrow, even if the truck drives straight thru. It’s over 2300 miles…

I’m sure I’ve mentioned before how much I hate FedEx…

We need to get helmets. Tobias has one with dino spikes - I want one like that!!! Or not.

It turns out it was eye strain. My left eye didn’t quite make it back to 20/20. She gave me a new glasses prescription. My right eye is basically nothing plus the add for the progressives. My left eye is right where my right eye was while the cataract was improving my vision, which means I can use my multi-focal contact in it. No more readers for me.

Have you considered putting her desk up on the roof? Or if that’s not possible, your own desk?

Are you bragging or complaining? I have six – one of which I take three a day, and one I take two of (plus a third one twice a week), for a total of nine or ten a day. Plus my daily baby aspirin and four vitamins.

I ended up sitting in an airport around eleven hours one day because the plane from NYC took off late and arrived five minutes after the connecting flight took off. A couple of the guys I was travelling with decided to catch a train into the city, but I thought “Rome? Easter Sunday? No way.”

Compromise? Five pounds?

Wouldn’t getting it removed be better than having it replaced?

It was up here, along with a lot of lightning and thunder. Always reminds me of our old Maine coon, who disappeared behind the couch at the first clap of thunder and wouldn’t come out until she was absolutely sure there wouldn’t be another.

Ditto. I’d love to have the “Submarine Veteran” plates, but… .

1806 (how did it get to be so late already?), and we have 57 ferrets with a predicted low of 49. Cloudy, but the rain is supposed to hold off until Saturday afternoon (and continue until Monday afternoon). Ick.

Apparently my mother-in-law’s flight into Philly yesterday got diverted to DC, so she didn’t get home until today.

Warming to low 70s here. Pollen is high. Cats are sacked out. That is the afternoon report.

Howdy Y’all! The sun decided to make an appearance late mornin’ so we had a couple of hours of quality cee-mint pond time. Right now we have light rain that should go away shortly. Nappage, day drinkin’, and sup were also accomplished.

MOOOOOOM yikes on the oil bill and ick about the tick! Don’t forget to wear a freshly ironed and startched apron and house dress, pearls and heels while you clean. You definitely need a helmet with dino spikes!

Mollie hope the house passes inspection. Whatever you decide to do for Pride Fest, we are with you on it.

George isn’t a fan either. We think its the pair of sonar dishes he wears on his head.

We’ve gotten a third of an inch of rain so far today. It didn’t really rain as much as it fogged really hard.

It didn’t get over 70 today and tomorrow will be even cooler with more rain. I did force myself to get off my butt and go to the old farts home today. James is off the oxygen but is still not feeling well.

I’ve learned that store bought bagels with homemade cream cheese doesn’t last in the day room, so I make up a batch every time I visit. I need to find another source of milk, store bought doesn’t seem as “fresh” as in the past, all of my cheese has benefited from farm milk and I’ve gotten spoiled.

People are so weird. Unless I’m working 24 stitches an inch, I don’t need readers. I caught the measles in grade school (no vaccines back then) and they messed up my eyes so I’ve lived less than ten years of my life without lenses in front of my face.

The first thing I did after I joined the cataract club was to order a couple of pair of very slightly corrected sunglasses from Zenni. My eyes felt naked and unprotected without them and I’m lazy. It’s easier to put a pair of photo-brown glasses on and just ignore them than to dig around in my purse to find my shades when I go outside.

So…you probably aren’t being weird about it, I’m the one who didn’t want to give my glasses up.

Its gotta be your area, our driver is great if you ignore the part where he’s scared to drive into our driveway.

I had to move here to see a bald eagle in the wild. They used to close Granite Dells (world famous rock climbing site) for six weeks when the golden eagles nested and I saw them soaring around on a regular basis.

Now I watch bald eagles soaring over the forest. I love it here.

There is also a squirrel war happening in the gully. The big grey squirrel rules on big tree and the littler ones know to avoid it. Now there are some red squirrels trying to move in and BigSquirrel is having none of it. I saw a grey and red ball of fur rolling into the gully last week but they haven’t actually made contact since (that I know).

George HATES it when I do that. Lately I’ve taken to emptying the bag out on my ramp for the birds and possums, ain’t nobody spoils their cats like we do.

How does the Diety feel about Stacy’s mom. I’ve heard on sound authority that she got it goin’ on.

8:30 pm and I’m home. I was supposed to close.

Did you get fired?!

Nope.

Some local dummy drove? (details are fuzzy) into a power pole a few hours ago, and the entire street for our biz went nnnnneeeruuuuup.

So we had to shut down and clean the entire kitchen by cell phone flashlight, augmented by the side door propped open - thank gawds for late sunsets.

Oh, and the online ordering system that’s been an absolute godsend for the last year anna half? Turns out, if our power goes out, we can’t turn it off. (Cuz, yanno, no Internet.) So we had many sad people (“Hi, I ordered a medium deluxe … hey, why is your restaurant so dark?”) and poor AlternateManagerSister was doing her best.

This, after Bitchy Teenager asked me for a ride before open that morning, I went over (“Hey, I’m here”) nobody showed, called S.M. who told me she called out sick, then right when we started HER mother called - and I took the call, thinking it was a customer - and I got to talk to an absolutely panicked mom in an ER waiting room b.c. Bitchy Teen is apparently extremely sick.

TL:DR it’s been a helluva day.
